Sexuality tends to find its way through all media, video games included. Yet, in-game erotica rarely varies from safe and tamed ways of depicting sexual intercourse typical of other audiovisual media. Something unique for computer games alone is that the productions containing interactive erotic scenes are very scarce. The aim of this paper is to analyse the most common examples of these, in order to produce a common set of scientific problems, which may form the basis for further research.

Purpose: The aim of the paper is to overview the research on inequalities in economics. The paper is based on mainstream and heterodox economic theories and approaches addressing inequality and its economic interdependence. Methodology: Due to its positive and normative nature, inequality is a complex concept that eludes precise definition. The available application of mainstream and heterodox approach to study inequality and its economic interdependence allows for the identification of various components of inequality. Classifications that fall within the mainstream economics especially reveal less numerous and often even different types of inequalities compared to heterodox approaches. Moreover, what determines within-country inequality is the number of driving forces related to the factual and regulatory sphere of an economy. Findings: This study does not exhaust the general debate over inequality in economics. The question remains about the state of research dedicated to the outcomes of inequality, for instance, perceived in its dynamic and historical perspective. Moreover, there emerges a need to overview the theoretical and empirical research dedicated to inequality in terms of not only its driving forces but also economic outcomes.

Purpose – The purpose of this article is to highlight the differences between mainstream and heterodox economics and essence of the dispute between them, as well as to indicate that this dispute results from attachment to a reductionist Cartesian research approach. Research method – The work utilises a review and analysis of the literature on the subject, deductive and inductive inference, as well as a linguistic descriptive method and tabular summaries. Results – The author concludes that the contemporary discussion between economic trends can be reduced to a confrontation of two reductionisms in the perception of economics: individualistic and objective, as well as social and normative. Breaking this methodological limitation provides an opportunity to search for pluralistic (integrated) economic positions in the future. Originality / value / implications / recommendations – Awareness of methodological aspects of the dispute between economic trends. Indication of the possibility of building pluralistic and integrated positions. Usefulness in building economic theory. Awareness of the need for diversity in economic research.

Although their remarks are scattered and spoken in a journalistic tone, they deal with important topics concerning fantasy and SF, their genre features and relationships with other genres of literature.

Due to the unquestionable roles of technology in language classes, it might be necessary to use computers in assessing language knowledge. This study aimed to examine how computers may be used to assess language ability of ESP students. Sixty computer-major university students at Abadan University are the participants of this study. They have taken an ESP course for a four-month academic term. To measure these participants’ ESP knowledge, two types of tests were used: a final achievement test based on course content, and a computer-assisted test based on TLU domain. The study used a computer-assisted test to highlight the validity of the final achievement test. This study also investigated ESP students’ perception of computer-supported assessment and highlighted some obstacles that may hinder e-supported activities in an Iranian context. Regarding the findings, the study points to the possibility of using computer-assisted assessment as an alternative to the present mainstream testing system.

This article tries to examine the influence of using creative methods of teaching English on the language competency of Special Educational Needs (SEN) learners in mainstream Elementary Schools with integration classes in Poland. We questioned 64 English teachers working in such facilities throughout Poland. In the course of the research, we have proved the hypothesis that using creative techniques and approaches enhances growth of SEN learners’ language competency in an integration environment. Statistical tools are used to test answers to research questions. The first question measures the correlation between age, gender and seniority with the attitude towards implementing creative approaches, while the second concerns aspects of a creative teacher.

A characteristic feature of Tadeusz Z. Kassern’s artistic output is a variety of musical styles, among which there is Post Romanticism, Post Impressionism, Folklorism, Expressionism, and different neoclassical sub-styles such as the Neoclassicism proper, Neoclassicism with archaic elements, Neoclassicism with archaic and romantic elements, as well as radical Neoclassicism. Among the abovementioned styles, the proper Neoclassicism is predominant. It is represented by Concerto for string orchestra, Concertino for oboe and string orchestra, the opera Comedy of the Dumb Wife to the composer’s own libretto based on a play by Anatole France, and many other works. The works belonging to this group are part of a widespread musical dialect, at the same time bearing traces of the composer’s individual choices that create a distinct musical idiom. This idiom, like the majority of idioms within the sub-dialect, is well-grounded in neotonal syntactic rules and formal strategies directed mainly at typical baroque and classical forms. Within the scope of the patterns replicated, it is close to the French and Polish proper Neoclassicisms. With the French Neoclassicism, it has in common static tonality, form, solutions in orchestration, as well as the use of quotations and parody; with the Polish style, it shares principles of symmetry and references to Polish musical tradition. As characteristic determinants of Kassern’s idiom, one can assume the simplest kinds of poly-tonality, considerable use of ostinatos, varied rhythmic unfolding, and multi-layered texture, which in its most developed form can be found in the expressionistic opera The Anointed.

One of the tasks assigned to mainstream economists is to legitimize the significance of unemployment. This paper aims to reconstruct the evolution of their approaches from the theoretical impossibility asserted by Pigou to the recognition of involuntary unemployment by Keynes and eventually to different versions of the natural unemployment rate. The unemployment rate had become an instrument for fine-tuning of the economy, but it no longer fulfills this role. It is then the whole dominant macroeconomics that is shaken to its foundations. But this crisis might help to return to expansionary fiscal policies (a Green New Deal) and to the Job Guarantee, thus echoing Keynes’ question: ‘There is work to do; there are men to do it. Why not bring them together?’

Introduction and objective. Acrylamide is a “probably human carcinogen” monomer that can form in heated starchy food as a result of a reaction between asparagine and reducing sugars via Maillard reaction. The main source of acrylamide in human diet are potato products, cereal products and coffee. Tobacco smoke may be another significant source of exposure to acrylamide. The aim of our study was to determine acrylamide content in cigarettes available on the Polish market and to estimate the exposure to acrylamide originating from tobacco smoke in smokers in Poland. Materials and methods. The material was cigarettes of the top five brands bought in Poland and tobacco from non-smoked cigarettes. Acrylamide content in cigarettes mainstream smoke was determined by LC-MS/MS. Exposure assessment was carried out using analytical data of acrylamide content in cigarettes and the mean quantity of cigarettes smoked daily by smokers in Poland, assuming body weight at 70 kg. Results. The mean content of acrylamide was 679.3 ng/cigarette (range: 455.0 – 822.5 ng/cigarette). The content of acrylamide was evidenced to correlate positively with total particulate matter (TPM) content in cigarettes. The estimated average exposure to acrylamide from tobacco smoke in adult smokers in Poland is 0.17 μg/kg b.w./day. Conclusions. Our results demonstrate that tobacco smoke is a significant source of acrylamide and total exposure to acrylamide in the population of smokers, on average, is higher by more than 50% in comparison with non-smokers. Our estimation of exposure to acrylamide from tobacco smoke is the first estimation taking into account the actual determined acrylamide content in the cigarettes available on the market.

In the paper a thesis is stated that institutional economics presents considerable support for business ethics teaching. The assumptions of main-stream economics eliminated the problems of morality in economic life. The dominance of neo-classical economics in economic studies curricula contributes to the social opinion that business is deprived of moral dimensions. From this point of view, it is argued that business ethicists should be more interested in institutional economics. Some institutionalists see economics close to social moral philosophy and claim that a normative approach in economics is natural and necessary. The questions of aims and economic morality are integral parts of many institutional research agendas. Especially the New Institutional Economics has developed tools that enable formalization and empirical verification of theories of morality in business. Institutional economics enriches the theoretical and empirical context of business ethics teaching.

The paper presents the issue of social transmission by Kazakh parents concerning disability, especially their knowledge of disability and content of conversations with their children. Diagnostic survey method, survey technique and the author's questionnaire with open-ended questions were used. The analysis of content of the written statements shows that the parental message in the inclusive group compared to the general population more strongly emphasizes the attitude of tolerance and nondiscrimination of the disabled peer. Research confirms the impact of social context on the knowledge, attitudes and the image of a person with a disability and these results are consistent with those of other authors.

Mainstream economics has been running the gauntlet of adverse criticism for decades. These critiques claim as a message of central importance that mainstream economics has lost its relevance for understanding reality. By making a brief comparison between the methodological strategies of the main stream and institutional economics I suggest that the firm demarcation between the streams stems from the difference between their methodologies. Its peculiar interest directed mainstream economics to take a unique methodological path and consequently the adherents have not been able to be on the lookout for certain facets of socio-economic reality. However, the chosen path, the axiomatic-deductive strategy proved to be an appropriate method for identifying economic laws. This claim is justified even by some recent efforts of new institutional economics. In order to support the conversation between the schools I highlight some causes that currently make it impossible to start a rational discourse.

The social situation of students with disabilities, due to existing stereotypes, social distance, not coping with the diversity and many other factors will be complex. The purpose of this article was to analyze the situation of pupils with sight disabilities in non-segregated forms of education: mainstream and integrated schools. Participation in social relations of blind and visually impaired students is described from two perspectives: the objective expressed in the sociometric position in the classroom as well as subjective measured by social integration – satisfaction with peer contacts. Existing relationships between these two variables and factors moderating it became the basis for interpreting the results of research conducted on a group of 60 students with visual impairment. A significant correlation between positive sociometric status and social integration, while generally neutral sociometric positions and relatively high satisfaction with peer contacts might suggest, that students with visual impairment in nonsegregated education forms are tolerated and subjectively do not feel the negative attitudes of their peers. Unfortunately, rarely they belong to the category of accepted students.

Rozdział jest przyczynkiem do współczesnej dyskusji na temat rozróżnienia między ekonomią głównego nurtu, mainstreamem, a nurtem heterodoksyjnym. Punktem wyjścia jest dla autora teza, że obserwuje się współcześnie rosnące zróżnicowanie metodologiczne i teoriopoznawcze w ekonomii jako nauce, zwłaszcza ze względu na dwa rodzaje „dualizmu”: ekonomia jako nauka teoretyczna (nomologiczna) versus nauka stosowana oraz dystynkcja między ekonomią pozytywną (opisową) a normatywną. W kontekście związanym z tą dyskusją autor dowodzi potrzeby rosnącego pluralizmu metodologicznego nauki ekonomicznej, krytykuje tendencję do uniwersalizmu behawioralnego ekonomii jako nauki (związanego głównie z neoklasyczną ortodoksją). W drugiej części rozdziału, autor najpierw wyjaśnia, nawiązując szeroko do współczesnej literatury przedmiotu, jak w ogóle należy rozumieć pojęcie ortodoksji oraz dlaczego taki status ma współcześnie szeroko rozumiana ekonomia neoklasyczna, wskazując również elementy jej metodologicznego paradygmatu. Podkreśla zarazem, że współcześnie obserwujemy proces różnicowania czy wzbogacania tego paradygmatu (dzięki rozwojowi ekonomii behawioralnej, nowej ekonomii instytucjonalnej, ekonomii złożoności, czy ekonomii ewolucyjnej). Następnie autor definiuje pojęcie heterodoksji (nurtu heterodoksyjnego) we współczesnej ekonomii, identyfikuje jego elementy (m.in. ekonomia postkeynesowska), zwracając również uwagę na trudności w przeprowadzeniu jednoznacznej dystynkcji: nurt ortodoksyjny (mainstream) – nurt heterodoksyjny. Traktując jako punkt odniesienia krytykę mainstreamowej ekonomii neoklasycznej, autor podejmuje próbę określenia wspólnych cech współczesnej heterodoksji ekonomicznej. Są to według niego: realizm metodologiczny, holizm poznawczy, racjonalność proceduralna mikropodmiotów, odrzucenie neoklasycznej koncepcji równowagi i „automatyzmu rynkowego” jako mechanizmu jej osiągania, odrzucenie mainstreamowego formalizmu modelowo-dedukcyjnego (uznanie za równouprawnioną w ekonomii analizę historyczno-opisową).
Distinction of orthodoxy and hetherodoxy in light of the need for methodological pluralism in economics. Microeconomic perspective The paper is a contribution to the discussion on the distinction between mainstream economics and heterodox economics in contemporary economic thought. The author starts with a thesis that there is taking place a growing methodological and epistemological diversification within the economics as a science, particularly in view of two kinds of dualism: economics as a nomological science versus applied science, and, secondly, the distinction between a descriptive (positive) and normative stream. In the context of the discussion related to those issues, the author proves the necessity of increasing methodological pluralism of economic science criticizing, on the other hand, a tendency toward its behavioral universalism ( mostly referred to the neoclassical orthodoxy). In the second part of the paper, against the background of extensive subject literature, the author defines the very notion of orthodoxy and explains why is just neoclassical economics playing such a role, also indicating components of its methodological paradigm. He emphasizes as well that one observes contemporarily the process of diversification and enrichment of that paradigm (owing to the development of behavioral economics, new institutional economics, complexity economics and evolutionary economics), Afterwards, the author defines the notion of heterodoxy (heterodox stream) in contemporary economics, identifies its components, with paying attention to difficulties in making an unequivocal distinction: orthodox stream versus heterodox stream. Treating as a reference point the criticism of mainstream neoclassical economics, the author makes an attempt at defining common features of contemporary heterodox economics. According to him, these are: methodological realism, cognitive holism, procedural rationality of microeconomic subjects, rejection of neoclassical equilibrium concept and equilibration mechanism, rejection of mainstream model-deductive formalism, along with considering the historical-descriptive analysis as equally legitimate in economics.
