The paper discusses the problem of competitiveness between the rail and road transport with reference to the EU policy for sustainable development of the transport branch. The paper presents the idea of complexity of services which facilitates the development of logistic networks. The authors formulate preliminary assumptions recommended for designing and construction of multimodal hubs. Further, they describe examples of European and Polish businesses which, thanks to the consolidation of services, widened their offer of logistic capabilities. The authors highlight the need for action aiming at the reversal of the unfavorable trend and increasing the cargo flow by rail, and not road. Finally, they discuss the necessity to reform the current freight transport by rail through the construction of comprehensive supply chains.

A number of previous studies have examined various statistical methods for the prediction of geomagnetic activity, particularly based on predictor input of solar wind variables. However, investigation of the potential for a simple binary prediction system based on either “quiet” or storm-level activity of the planetary magnetic field has been severely lacking. The goals of the current analyses were to identify potential space weather models for the accurate prediction of geomagnetic storm events. Furthermore, while the deleterious or negative effects of increases in geomagnetic activity on a range of terrestrial systems have been focused on in the past, theoretical perspectives on the potential benefits of significantly increased geomagnetic perturbations are considered.

Autorzy artykułu uzyskali dane do obliczenia trzech wskaźników operacyjnych logistycznych wskaźników pracy magazynu: Z1, Z2 oraz Z5 z Regionalnego Centrum Dystrybucyjnego (RCD) wybranej sieci handlowej w okresie trzech miesięcy (III-V) dla dwóch lat 2014 i 2015. Procentowa wartość wskaźnika Z1 jest bardzo wysoka, co świadczy o bardzo dobrej organizacji pracy RCD. Występuje wzrost liczby zamówień przyjętych do realizacji oraz zamówień napływających ogółem w analogicznych miesiącach z lat 2014 i 2015. Wartość procentowa wskaź-nika Z2 jest również bardzo wysoka i przekracza w każdym z ocenianym miesiącu 99%. Również kolejny wskaźnik Z5 określający procentowy stosunek zamówień zrealizowanych z opóźnieniem przez magazyn do ogółu zamówień napływających do niego potwierdza bardzo dobrą organizację pracy w analizowanym Regionalnym Centrum Dystrybucyjnym.
The authors obtained data for the calculation of three indicators of operational logistics warehouse operation indicators Z1, Z2 and Z5 from the Regional Distribution Centre (RCD) selected commercial network in the three months (III-V) for the two years 2014 and 2015. The percentage ratio Z1 very high, which indicates a very good organization of work RCD. There is an increase in the number of accepted orders and incoming orders total in the corresponding months of the years 2014 and 2015. The percentage rate of Z2 is also very high and exceeds every month with an estimated 99%. Also, another indicator Z5, which calculates the percentage of orders completed belatedly by the magazine to all orders coming to him, it confirms the very good organization working in the reporting Regional Distribution Center.

In the paper authors presented concept of evaluation of complex systems such as logistic companies which operate in competitive environment. Authors also highlighted the importance of the evaluation problem in operational activity, particularly in the properly prepared procedures to be followed, consisted of several stages adapted to currently conducted research. Properly executed evaluation of companies enables customers to take right decisions on contracting services and stimulate the development of those companies. It should be noted that the proposed algorithmic model of assessment may be particularly useful for assessment of complex logistics systems. Characteristics of the respective phases developed procedure allowed to indicate that it is important to select of appropriate criteria and evaluation methods. It was pointed out that particularly useful for assessing of logistics companies are multi-criteria analysis methods, because they allow to examine objects in a holistic manner, taking into consideration various aspects of activities such organizations. For the practical realization of assessment of logistics companies there was proposed Bellinger method, which contains quite transparent procedures. The results obtained from that method are consistent with those carried out by means of other, more complex multi-criteria methods. Also there was presented the problem of selection of weighted factors for the criteria in the context of their impact on the end result of evaluation. It was pointed out that the choice of an appropriate procedure for determining weights depends on the nature of the evaluated problem and form of criteria.

Research background: In a modern economy, full of complexities, ensuring a business' financial stability, and increasing its financial performance and competitiveness, has become especially difficult. Then, monitoring the company's financial situation and predicting its future development becomes important. Assessing the financial health of business entities using various models is an important area in not only scientific research, but also business practice. Purpose of the article: This study aims to predict the bankruptcy of companies in the engineering and automotive industries of the Slovak Republic using a multilayer neural network and logistic regression. Importantly, we develop a novel an early warning model for the Slovak engineering and automotive industries, which can be applied in countries with undeveloped capital markets. Methods: Data on the financial ratios of 2,384 companies were used. We used a logistic regression to analyse the data for the year 2019 and designed a logistic model. Meanwhile, the data for the years 2018 and 2019 were analysed using the neural network. In the prediction model, we analysed the predictive performance of several combinations of factors based on the industry sector, use of the scaling technique, activation function, and ratio of the sample distribution to the test and training parts. Findings & value added: The financial indicators ROS, QR, NWC/A, and PC/S reduce the likelihood of bankruptcy. Regarding the value of this work, we constructed an optimal network for the automotive and engineering industries using nine financial indicators on the input layer in combination with one hidden layer. Moreover, we developed a novel prediction model for bankruptcy using six of these indicators. Almost all sampled industries are privatised, and most companies are foreign owned. Hence, international companies as well as researchers can apply our models to understand their financial health and sustainability. Moreover, they can conduct comparative analyses of their own model with ours to reveal areas of model improvements.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyze material flow from the perspective of a logistics operator operating in a distribution network at Material Decoupling Point (MDP). This analysis will focus on classifying the flowing products into the appropriate groups in terms of their sales characteristics, release volume and the value of the coefficient of variation. This analysis will also involve product classification in terms of forecast accuracy. Design/methodology/approach: Main method used for the research focuses on analyzing one of distribution network. Analyze considered examination of material flow and tests of forecast tool to improve operational issues. Findings: Logistics operator is able to forecasting demand of products in distribution network. It is interesting area of research developing in the future. Originality/value Forecasting is considered here as a kind of development perspective for the operator who currently does not make forecasts. Forecasting implementation could be in these case

Purpose: The main goal of article focuses on identification the main research directions for transferring the function of centralised demand forecasting to 3PL enterprise. To meet this goal the concepts connected with central demand forecasting in distribution network was considered and it was taking into account the meaning of demand management and forecasting in logistics. There were also distinguished the main stages which could include the attributes of central forecasting enterprise. Design/methodology/approach: Paper includes literature analysis connected with centralised forecasting and specification of determinants which could be the main reference point in finding the enterprise able to get the function of centralised forecasting. Findings: According to literature review determinants of distribution network configuration in the centralised forecasting is showed and also there is showed a possibility of transfer the function of centralised forecasting to logistic operator. Originality/value Paper shows determinants of distribution network configuration in the conditions of centralised forecasting and takes into account possibility of transfer this function to logistic operator.

This paper is focused on area identification to find a proper location for the specific port logistic center in a certain territory by applying the particular method of operational research. Graph theory offers a useful tool for solving such problems in transportation infrastructure development. The type of the network optimization technique depends on problem definition. In the first chapter, we have explained some of the algorithms often applied for similar purposes. In this case, the focus is on Minimum Spanning Three algorithm. Based on well-known Prim’s and Kruskal’s algorithms, some modifications are introduced, to improve the processing speed and memory consumption. The next four chapters describe individual parameters, perspectives, requirements, and financing details for building new combined transport terminals as well as a planned port logistics center. The subsequent, the most important, chapter presents the model example for specifying the proper location of a given port logistics center when using the method of operational research.

Celem badań zaprezentowanych w artykule było wskazanie cech charakteryzujących flagowe przedsiębiorstwa sieci dystrybucji, a także dobór mierników pozwalających ocenić ich skuteczność. Przyjęto założenie, że kluczowym elementem oceny skuteczności flagowych dystrybutorów jest zadowolenie klientów. Uwzględniono zróżnicowane preferencje klientów. Do oceny satysfakcji klientów wykorzystano wskaźnik CSI złożony z elementów logistycznej obsługi klienta.
In the article features being characteristic of flag enterprises were shown. Next gauges allowing to assess their effectiveness were selected. An assumption that satisfying customers is a key element of the assessment of effectiveness of flag distributors was made. Diversified preferences of customers were taken into account. A CSI indicator was used for the evaluation of the satisfaction of customers. The Indicator is compound of elements of the logistic customer service.

Enterprises are taking different roles in network. In dominated webs central enterprises have a key importance. These organizations are determined with flag enterprises if they are creating the network, are coordinating material flows, have high relational competence and attributes have a leader. Showing the relation between attributes of the flag enterprise and elements of the logistic customer service and in consequence is a purpose of the article.

Opis:
Intermodal transport networks, as examples of business networks created in supply chains, are differentiated not only due to types of key resources in the organization, but also due to such things as network structure, the nature of the organizations involved, the types of relations they have, and the roles of individual actors in the network. The business network is understood as a dynamic system whose configuration depends on the fulfilment of particular tasks and the competencies of the organizations which form them. Such networks are inherently temporary, because a new task can initiate the creation of completely new inter-organizational bonds or change the type of pre-existing relations between network nodes. The cooperation of enterprises in a freight transport network compels one to look at the problem of knowledge management in a wider context. The paper focuses on the first stage of knowledge management, which is knowledge acquisition in an organization and its environment. The paper presents the idea of gathering knowledge, and identification of the sources of disruptions in an intermodal network.

The paper presents a three-level method used to support the management of product flow through supply chain links (e.g. production lines) and between these links: suppliers and recipients of products of various types.The supply chain includes both producers of components (suppliers) and recipients of these components, which are used for the production of complex goods. The method is dedicated to the development of schedules of product flows through particular production plants (links in supply chains) and between individual plants. Each module of the developed system refers to a separate production plant. The organization of product flow through production lines covers different types of production routes and different configurations of production systems. At the first level of the method, preliminary production schedules are developed for each plant within the supply chain. The second level of the method is dedicated to the development of delivery schedules of components and semi-finished products to these plants. The determined delivery times of components to the individual production plants constitute data for the third level of the method. At this lowest level, detailed schedules of product flow through production lines with the producers of complex goods are developed. Linear mathematical models have been built for each level of the method. In the developed method, optimization take place in the developed method in the scale of the entire supply chain (cost reduction), as well as in the scale of its links (production lines for which manufacturing schedules are built with various criteria taken into consideration). The computational experiments used for verification of the method have been included.

Investigation of the closed three-level HM-network, which is the model of the production transportation in a logistic transport system, is conducted in this article. The approximated expression for the expected income of the central system and the system of the nonhomogeneous differential equations for an average number of messages in network systems, when the incomes from transitions between network’s states are random variables with the set moments of the first two orders, is received. The relation for variance of the income of the central system of network (system of the top level) is also received.

In order to describe transportation system, as a routine a connection graph would be used. Vertices of the graph can be train stations, bus stop, airports etc. The edges show direct connections between vertices. A direct application of such graph can be difficult and computational problems can occur while one would try to organize or optimize such a transportation system. Therefore, a method of aggregation of such graph was introduced, using the general kernel and shell structure and a hub and spoke transformation method of the source graph. These structures allow to concentrate and order the transport of goods/persons among vertices and enable to reduce the number of analyzed vertices as well as edges of the graph. In the presented paper we continue our work on kernel and shell and its instance hub and spoke methods of connection graph transformation. In this paper we develop model of the transportation system using the hub and spoke method with predetermined, minimum and indirectly described numbers of hub nodes. To obtain the desired structures, several versions of specialized evolutionary algorithm (EA) were developed and applied.
