Opis:
Joining of two or more materials using adhesives is one of the most widely used way to connect and/or seal steel panels used in the automotive industry. Due to instabilities of the technological process a different kind of defects could appear in the adhesively bonded joints. There are many destructive and non-destructive methods allowing investigation of defects of bonded joints. In this article lock-in thermography (LT) technique was used to detect of discontinuities in sealing joints between two steel plates. Results of the research shown the defect of bonded joints could be recognised effectively however it is necessary to ensure proper test conditions.

Opis:
Widespread usage of emission free public transport is the preferred strategy in many cities to reduce a congestion and pollution from the road traffic. The trolleybus is a kind of urban public transport, i.e. a fully electric vehicle, which is considered as a promising tool to enhance the efficiency of public transport and to attain the goals of sustainable development and quality of city life. The operation control of service brake system and secondary brake system (the braking torque of traction electric motor) is realized with help of one pedal in the trolleybus. Thus, there are modes of the joint operation for these systems during the braking process. Authors focus on the development of rule-based algorithm for the blending control of traction electric motor and anti-lock braking system to enhance the overall braking efficiency of a vehicle. The mathematical model of the trolleybus braking dynamics was developed for this purpose. Test bench and ride tests on different road surfaces were carried out to determine the parameters of vehicle braking efficiency and to validate the developed mathematical model. The corresponding experimental data were used to analyse the efficiency of proposed rule-based strategy for the blending control of traction electric motor and anti-lock braking system of the trolleybus. As a result, the availability of proposed control algorithm is confirmed, which secures the required braking efficiency and provides a high braking stability of the vehicle.

Many of the principles of taxation that were developed in the first half of the 20th century, such as the arm’s length principle and the definition of the term “permanent establishment” (PE) in determining the tax position of international business operations, when applied to the business models of the 21st century, often result in the under-taxation of businesses that are otherwise fully compliant with the laws as presently written and implemented. Compounding the problem is the fact that these rules and principles of taxation are broadly recognized and are enshrined in a wide network of tax treaties. This makes the task of modifying or updating these rules and principals extremely difficult. Using legal-dogmatic and legal-theoretical methods, the author will show that present attempts to tax e-commerce transactions unilaterally are not effective and that, under present conditions, even organizations such as the EU are unable to address the problem at hand. The OECD project, commissioned by the G-20, which seeks to create a set of international e-commerce taxation rules, faces some very serious difficulties – largely because a well-established “set in stone” complement of internationally accepted laws, rules, and regulations is serving to block the development of new, more appropriate rules. This phenomenon has become known as the lock-in effect or legal impossibilism. In order to effectively address this phenomenon, lawmakers on a global basis must understand the mechanisms that are blocking the effective evolution of business taxation.

This article dealt with the comparison of results obtained from an experiment and from the numerical thermal FEM analysis. Sample with defects were printed on a 3D printer. A thermal wave from the halogen lamp to excite the front surface of the sample was used in the next step and the response was measured by a thermal camera. After processing the data in the software DisplayIMG, a phase image was created representing the 2D image of the material at a certain depth under the surface of the model. Lock-in method was applied to the results from the numerical thermal FEM analysis and the phase image was created. The programs code were created in MATLAB for a 4 points, multiple points and differential lock-in method which were compared with the results from the experiment.

Aluminum profiles play an important role in civil engineering (facades, walls with windows) as well as in mechanical engineering (production lines, constructions of 3D printers and plotters). To ensure quick assembly, disassembly or changed the dimensions of constructions it is not possible to use such methods as welding, adhesive or riveting joints. The solution may be to use the so-called "popular lock”. It is a mechanism, the closure of which is caused by tightening of the conical screw, joining the "T" profile in the node. In order to properly design using the presented type of connection, it is necessary to know its strength and stiffness both in simple and complex loads states, also including imperfections. In the literature there is no information about the operation of the construction node with the so-called "popular lock”. The paper presents the results of experimental tests for connections subjected to uniaxial tensile test, paying special attention to the defects that may appear during the assembly. In the next step, a 3D solid connection model was created. Numerical simulations were performed in the Abaqus / Explicite program for both uniaxial tensile test and bending tests in two planes. Limit values of loads above which there is a plastic deformation of the material were determined. Determination of stiffness and strength of a single node allowed to make a simplified connector model. Using the numerical model, the analysis was performed taking into account the influence of imperfections on the work of the entire connection.

W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono badania metod autoryzacji użytkowników mobilnych urządzeń wyposażonych w ekran dotykowy. Analizie poddano metody autoryzacji istniejące w systemie android, oraz nowe możliwości uwierzytelniania, zaproponowane przez autorów. Blokadę ekranu za pomocą PIN (ang. Personal Identification Number), oraz wzoru porównano z nowoopracowanymi przez autorów metodami. Analizowano czas wprowadzania klucza, liczbę pomyłek oraz liczbę kombinacji danej metody autoryzacji.
This article discusses authentication methods for users of mobile devices with touchscreens. The analysis concerns the authentication methods already existing in Android OS and new authorization methods proposed by the authors. Pattern and PIN (Personal Identification Number) lock were compared with two new authentication methods. The time required for entering the key, number of mistakes, number of possible combinations were analyzed.

With the development of mobile device technology, the need to protect these devices from unauthorized access is increasing. Currently, there are common methods of unlocking devices whose operation consists in reading the pattern or the password entered by the user. The article presents the creation of an original method of screen protection of a mobile device and its comparison with commonly used screen locking methods. The presence of a monastic library, possibly connected with a scriptorium, in the complex labeled as D on the upper plateau in the monastery at Nekloni (Naqlun), has been suggested in research, based on finds of texts, as well as other categories of artifacts presented in excavation reports. The paper discusses the collection of wooden artifacts from the complex, emphasizing objects that could have been part of the upper-floor reception rooms envisioned as the place where one would expect to find the monastery library.

Omówiono wdrażany w kopalni system RST-1 umożliwiający radiowe sterowanie tamami śluzy wentylacyjnej. Śluzę w chodniku kopalnianym tworzą dwie tamy odległe od siebie o około I50 m. Przez śluzę przemieszcza się zespół transportowy. Kierowca zespołu ma radiowy sterownik operatorski, który umożliwia zdalne otwieranie/zamykanie drzwi tam oraz monitorowanie stanu śluzy na ekranie wyświetlacza sterownika. Iskrobezpieczny system sterowania RST-1 składa się między innymi z bloków funkcjonalnych mocowanych na długości śluzy, które wyposażone są w podzespoły do komunikacji radiowej w standardzie Bluetooth oraz przewodowej pomiędzy sobą w standardzie CAN i/lub RS-485. Bloki funkcjonalne monitorują stan czujników położenia drzwi tam, sterują semaforami oraz siłownikami wykonawczymi.
The article presents the RST-1 system which is being implemented in a mine. The system allows radio control of ventilation lock dams. The ventilation lock in the heading is made of two dams located about 150 m from each other. There is a transport unit passing through the lock. The driver has a Radio Operator Controller which enables remote opening and closing of the dam doors as well as monitoring the state of the lock on the display of the controller. The RST-1 intrinsically safe control system consists, among others, of two functional blocks fixed on the long side of the lock. These blocks are equipped with sub-assemblies for radio communication in the Bluetooth standard as well as cable communication in the CAN and/or RS-485 standard. The functional blocks monitor the state of sensors that show the position of the dam doors, control the semaphores and actuators.

Generic technologies are oftentimes heralded as overall beneficial drivers of innovation, especially regarding their flexibility, low cost of adaption (once established) and their inclusiveness toward a variety of actors. This paper adds to literature on innovation-studies by questioning these promises through the lenses of ‘lock in’ and ‘path dependencies’ and asks how generic approaches to innovation may contribute to a fallacy where increased flexibility is assumed yet implicitly, a sort of ‘lock in genericism’ may occur. The paper argues that, for all the advantages that come with the research and adaption of generic technologies, they also bring with them an increased risk of enamourment with innovations that are applicable to a range of potential applications that, in turn, may lead to more specific technological innovations being at the danger of becoming invisible / unwanted altogether. To investigate this phenomenon further, the paper applies the concept of ‘lock in genericism’ to the field of eVTOL-multicopter- / drone-innovation. In this context, the paper analyzes a series of three case-studies to investigate how this ‘lock-in genericism’ emerges from material, temporal and spatial components of drone-making and subsequently seeks to outline a framework for ‘integrating generic technologies’ in this particular field of application (of drones) to overcome the described lock-in in this field while maintaining their advantages. The paper concludes by discussing the relevance of the concept of ‘lock-in genericism’ on a broader level, highlighting the risk of a ‘generic turn’ in contemporary innovation practices that, in turn, requires critical reflection.

Methods for measuring deposit parameters are often based on a capacitance or conductivity measurement aimed at estimating, e.g. deposit moisture content. In practice, these methods fail for materials with a low degree of homogeneity, a diverse porous structure or high conductivity, e.g. due to a high water content. This article demonstrates an approach that enables a more precise estimation of the parameters of any deposit. The presented method involves the use of a measuring system in a charge amplifier configuration and the application of a technique using lock-in detection or a lock-in voltmeter to determine resistance and capacitance parameters of a deposit based on signals received from the measuring system. This method can be successfully used wherever the test deposit material is highly heterogeneous and contains both dielectric and conductive materials. The article presents an example of a solution to a measuring system using two planar electrodes that can be dimensioned depending on the deposit dimensions. It is followed by a presentation of a method for converting the signal from the measuring system into impedance parameters of the deposit using a lock-in voltmeter. The analysis of the operation of the entire measuring system was modelled in Matlab/Simulink, and the operation results were presented.

Układy Synchronicznej Pętli Fazowej (SPF lub PLL - Phase Lock Loop) są powszechnie stosowane we współczesnych urządzeniach telekomunikacyjnych do synchronizacji, powielania i detekcji częstotliwości. Wynika to w naturalny sposób z genezy ich powstania. Idea PLL powstała bowiem już w latach trzydziestych ubiegłego wieku jako pewna metoda odbioru i detekcji sygnałów radiowych [1]. Nie zyskała jednak dużej popularności ze względu na trudności techniczne przy stosowanej wówczas technice układów elektronicznych. Dopiero od momentu kiedy pojawiły się układy scalone zawierające wszystkie podzespoły pętli w jednym chipie zaczęto powszechnie je stosować, gdyż posiadają bardzo ciekawe własności i stwarzają rozliczne możliwości ich wykorzystywania. Układy PLL mogą też służyć do budowy elementów różnych elektronicznych przetworników pomiarowych, zastępując z powodzeniem istniejące inne rozwiązania układowe, a także, ze względu na swoje unikalne własności stwarzają duże pole do inwencji w tej dziedzinie. Jednak wiedza na ich temat nie jest powszechna w środowisku metrologów i m.in. z tego powodu podstawy działania układów PLL zostaną szerzej omówione we wstępie.

In this paper a finite difference solution is presented for the 2D, unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations for laminar flow about fixed, oscillating or rotating cylinders. Equations are transformed to a non-inertial system fixed to the cylinder. Convective terms are handled by a third order upwind difference, other space derivatives by fourth order central differences, and time derivatives by forward differences. The computed Strouhal numbers for fixed cylinders compare well with experimental results. The variation of time mean and root-mean-square values of lift and drag coefficients with rotation parameter alpha is also shown for a rotating cylinder for two different grids. Amplitude bounds of locked-in vortex shedding due to crossflow cylinder oscillation were determined for Re=180.
Modelowanie i analiza nieustalonego przepływu laminarnego wokół drgających i wirujących cylindrów kołowych. W pracy przedstawiono uzyskane metodą różnic skończonych rozwiązanie równań Naviera-Stokesa opisujących dwuwymiarowy, nieściśliwy przepływ laminarny wokół cylindrów. Równania przetransformowano do inercyjnego ukłdu współrzędnych związanych z cylindrem. Człony konwekcyjne przedstawiono za pomocą różnic wstecznych trzeciego rzędu, inne pochodne przestrzenne - różnicami centralnymi czwartego rzędu, a pochodne czasowe - różnicami progresywnymi. Obliczone w ten sposób liczby Strouhala dla cylindrów utwierdzonych są zgodne z wynikami doświadczalnymi. Zmiennośc czasowych współczynników sił nośnych i oporu w zależności od parametru rotacji alfa przedstawiono również dla wirującego cylindra i dwóch siatek podziału.

In patients with chronic gastrointestinal tract failure, requiring access to the venous system, the subsequent catheter re-insertion are leading to large veins thrombosis impeding or preventing the insertion of another catheter and exposing patients to the risk of complications. Understanding the pathophysiology of catheter-related infections, enabled to use methods allowing to eradicate the source of infection without removal and replacement of central catheter with a new one. In our center, for many years we have been using an alternative method involving implementation of the alcohol-antibiotic lock in the treatment of infections. This method is based on the assumption that the destruction of biofilm with concentrated alcohol will enable antibiotic penetration and killing other microorganisms. Treatment with alcohol-antibiotic lock lasts from 8 to 10 days and involves filling the catheter with 96% alcohol followed by a solution of the antibiotic of high concentration. The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of treatment of catheter-related bloodstream infections with two methods (catheter replacement with a new one and the alcohol-antibiotic lock therapy) in patients receiving home parenteral nutrition (HPN). Material and methods. 428 HPN in the period from 1 January 2005 to 31 December 2010. Among which 240 (56%) of women with an average age of 56.5±16 years and 188 (44%) of men with an average age of 54±17 years. The indications to HPN were as follows: short bowel syndrome in 298 (70%) patients, multilevel obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract in 52 (12%), postoperative gastrointestinal fistulas in 48 (11.2%), malabsorption syndrome in 17 (4%), motility disorders in 6, cachexia in 4 and radiation enteritis in 3 patients. Results. In 247 (57.5%) from 428 patients, no episode of catheter-related bloodstream infection was found, while 181 were diagnosed with 352 episodes of catheter-related bloodstream infections. In 40 (9.4%) from 428 patients, 168 (47.8%) episodes have been found - almost a half. The mean duration of treatment of patients receiving home parenteral nutrition, starting from the first episode of catheterrelated bloodstream infection, in 48 patients treated with the lock was equal to 1053+748 days, and in 133 patients treated with catheter replacement was equal to 952+709 days (t-test p = 0.62). Conclusions. The survival time of patients treated with alcohol-antibiotic lock is the same as in patients treated with the catheter removal and insertion of the new one. The use of alcohol-antibiotic lock to treat catheter-related bloodstream infections in order to eradicate selected microorganisms that colonize the lumen and cause an infection, is as effective as catheter replacement with a new one.

Opis:
The main functions of an aviation brake system are to slow the speed of the vehicle, to perform stable deceleration, and to hold the vehicle stationary after it stopped. They must perform safely under a variety of operating conditions such as slippery, wet and dry runways, full or light load of the vehicle, new or worn brake linings, novice or experienced pilot, etc. The experimental tests show that about 95% of friction energy is converted into thermal energy by plastic deformation of brake linings surface layers and other deformations. The friction materials temperature growth is caused by this energy transformation. The influence of braking temperature is very important to the tribology characteristics, durability and reliability of friction brakes. Landing Gear Department Laboratory performed many experimental tests on full-scale brakes and also on friction material samples. It was performed on the special laboratory test rigs. During the Anti Lock Braking system test, the Landing Gear Department Laboratory workers performed the brake linings temperature measurements. Author observed a positive influence of ABS system use on temperature curve. The aim of this article is to compare the test results of braking with ABS system applied to braking without ABS.
