Artykuł dotyczy wkładu trzech ukraińskich kapłanów prawosławnych, Wasyla Hreczułewycza (1791–1870), Stefana Opatowycza (1832–1892) oraz Ioanna Babczenki (?–?), w rozwój ukraińskiego języka literackiego w połowie XIX wieku. Szczegółowo omówiony został język zbiorów ich kazań i innych prac homiletycznych, opublikowanych przed cyrkularzem Wałujewa z 1863 r. na rosyjskiej Ukrainie. Analizie poddano cechy ich idiolektów opartych na języku ojczystym, które autor artykułu zaproponował umieścić na skali normalizacji języka ukraińskiego w XIX wieku. Zauważono, że idiolekt wielebnego Opatowycza jest najbliższy współczesnemu językowi ukraińskiemu. Autor stwierdza, że wkład ukraińskich kapłanów prawosławnych znad Dniepru w rozwój ukraińskiego języka literackiego może z łatwością konkurować z podobnym wkładem księży greckokatolickich na zachodnich ziemiach monarchii austro-węgierskiej
The article deals with the contribution of three Ukrainian Orthodox priests, Vasyl Hrechulevych (1791–1870), Stefan Opatovych (1832–1892), and Ioann Babchenko (?–?), to the formation of literary Ukrainian in the mid-19th century. The author analyzes the language of the collections of sermons and other homiletic works which were published before the Valuev Circular of 1863 in Russian-ruled Ukraine. Looking into the features of their vernacular-based idiolects, the author offers to posit their idiolects on the scale of the normalization of written Ukrainian in the 19th c.; he argues in particular that Reverend Opatovych’s idiolect is the closest to the vernacular standard of modern Ukrainian. The author proves that the contribution of the Dnieper Ukraine Orthodox priests to the formation of literary Ukrainian is fully commensurate with that of Greek-Catholic priests in Austria-Hungary.

The article shows that archaic language is one of the components and methods of the detection of historical memory of Ukrainians. The analysis of the use of such elements in Old Ukrainian literary language of the 14-18th centuries., in Ukrainian literary language of the 19-20th centuries and in modern Ukrainian dialects has proved “Ukrainianness” of some archaic elements of the Ukrainian language, which are perceived by the language awareness of the modern Ukrainian as elements of the Russian language rather than the elements of its national identity in the diachronic dimension, as these words do exist in the modern Russian literary language, while in the New Ukrainian literary language they are replaced by other lexemes. It is shown that such archaisms in the language awareness of educated Ukrainians, including writers, acquire additional connotations and update their historical memory.

In the article, the role of the artistic style as one of the major componens of the Ukrainian linguo-culture has been stressed. The writers’ language-creative practice has been qualified as an important factor in the national literary language development and as a criterion of the literary norm formation. As for the latter, two major kinds of writers’ impact are noted – structural-expanding and cutting, aimed at improvement. In this context, the concept of norm arises as an actual parameter to determine the level of correlation of both literary language and language of fiction.

The article is devoted to the research of the ideas and characters in the works of Ukrainian classic writers from the position of early Dmytro Dontsov as a literary critic. The creative work of this scholar differs from the works of his contemporaries and followers (M. Zerov, M. Dry-Khmara, M. Evshan and etc). The particular place in his literary critique has his interpretation of creative work of the Ukrainian writers as Lesya Ukrainian and Taras Shevchenko. The appraisal of the creative work of Lesya Ukrainian had been given and written in the articles as Poetry o f Individualism, Lesya Ukrainian and Poetics o f Ukrainian Risordzhiment (Lesya Ukrainian). A lot of studies of D. Dontsov such as Compact Majority and Shevchenko, Cossack from the million of swineherds, In March Anniversary, Shevchenko and Dragomanov and etc. have not been scrutinized in literary criticism. In these writings the new literary critical principles, approaches, interesting ideas, characters and conceptions were represented. These articles are the interesting attempts to show the weltanschauung of Lesya Ukrainian and Taras Shevchenko by analyzing the main characters of the works and the ideas of the great Ukrainian classics.

The paper focuses on the issue of retranslation perceived as a significant aspect of contemporary practice of literary translation into Ukrainian, exemplified by the cases of the retranslation of short stories by Bruno Schulz and Tadeusz Konwicki’s Minor Apocalypse. The emergence of new translations within a short time encourages questions about the ambitions that drove translators and publishers to present new translations of the previously translated literary works, as well as about the strategies used by translators.
Artykuł poświęcony jest zagadnieniu ponownego tłumaczenia będącego ważnym elementem współczesnej praktyki tłumaczenia literackiego na język ukraiński na przykładzie nowych przekładów opowiadań Brunona Schulza i Małej Apo¬kalipsy Tadeusza Konwickiego. Pojawienie się nowych przekładów po upływie względnie krótkiego czasu prowokuje pytania o motywy pobudzające tłumaczy i wydawców do publikacji nowych przekładów wcześniej tłumaczonych dzieł, a także o stosowane przez tłumaczy strategie.

The release of the newest anthology of macabre short stories “Вбивство на вулиці...” (2019) affirmed the superb state of homebred horror literature. The aim of this paper is to analyze and evaluate the seventeen stories that form the aforementioned anthology. Analysis of the anthology has proven that despite a few creative shortcomings of young litterateurs, the “Вбивство на вулиці...” anthology maintains a high level of quality and deserves to be called a bestseller.

Na podstawie Traktatu o Kościele Teodosija Sofonowycza autorka artykułu przeprowadza szczegółową analizę cech graficznych i ortograficznych zabytku, które odzwierciedlają system fonetyczny i fonologiczny języka ukraińskiego drugiej połowy XVII wieku. Autorka zwraca szczególną uwagę na wzajemne relacje zachodzące pomiędzy ukraińskim wariantem języka cerkiewnosłowiańskiego tego czasu a prostą mową. Dochodzi przy tym do wniosku, że prace drukowane w Kijowie miały własną ortografię, która różniła się od ortografii stosowanej w poleskiej odmianie języka pisanego.
Based on Teodosii Sofonovych’s Treatise about the Church, the author offers a detailed analysis of its graphic and orthographic features which reflect the phonetic and phonological system of the Ukrainian language of the 2nd part of the 17th century. An emphasis is placed on the interrelations between the Ukrainian recension of Church Slavonic of that time with the prostaja mova. The author concludes that the Kyivan works had their own orthography which was different from that used in the Polissian variety of the written language.

In the second half of the 1940s, Ukrainian literature outside of Soviet Ukraine experienced an unusually intensive period of development in the Displaced Person’s camps in western Germany and Austria. Thrown together from various regions of Ukraine, writers managed to develop an amazing literary activity. A key role in this period was played by one of the most important Ukrainian émigré scholar, literary critic and essayist – Yuryii Shevelov (born on 17 December 1908 in Kharkiv, died 12 April 2002 in New York.) Having emigrated to Germany in 1944, he taught at the Ukrainian Free University in Münich (1946–9) and obtained a doctorate there (1949). He was also a vice-president of the MUR literary association (1945–8) and edited a monthly journal Arka. Shevelov is the author of some 500 articles, reviews, and books on Slavic philology and linguistics and the history of literature. He was one of the organizers of émigré literary life in Germany after the Second World War. In the postwar period Yurii Shevelov (pseud: Yu. Sherekh) has been the most infl uential literary critic within the Ukrainian émigré community in the West. In his articles in the journal Arka (1947–8) he formulated the principles of a ‘national-organic style’ and stimulated a lively discussion that continued for some time. Another émigré critic, Volodymyr Derzhavyn, produced articles that combined the Neoclassicist and modernist approaches. They both began a discussion that contributed to a revival of postwar Ukrainian literature. The principal intellectual discord between them was an understanding of what “national” means and what kind of tradition should serve as a “source of revival” for Ukrainian culture in exile. His numerous articles in the fi eld of literature and literary criticism were collected in Ne dlia ditei (Not for Children, 1964), Druha cherha: literatura, teatr, ideolohiï (The Second Round: Literature, Theater, Ideologies, 1978), and Tretia storozha (The Third Watch, 1991). Most of these essays were reprinted in Kharkiv in 1998 in a two-volume edition Porohy i zaporizhzhia (The Rapids and zaporizhzhia).

У статті досліджено закономірності вжитку двох форм знахідного відмінка множини іменників – назв істот в українській народній і літературній мові. Виняткову увагу зосереджено на формі, що збігається з називним відмінком і є типовою ознакою живої народної мови. Простежено історію входження форми знахідного відмінка множини, спільної з називним відмінком, до системи словозміни іменників української літературної мови. Визначено ареал поширення кожної з форм знахідного відмінка множини. Запропоновано перелік іменників – назв неосіб, що в знахідному відмінку множини мають форму називного відмінка. З’ясовано причини та проаналізовано наслідки витіснення форм називного відмінка множини формами родового відмінка в іменниках – назвах істот в сучасній українській літературній мові. Констатовано порушення відповідности чинної морфологійної літературної норми граматичним традиціям української народної мови, зокрема переважання форм, спільних із називним відмінком, у народній мові, і форм, тотожних родовому відмінкові, у літературному стандарті.
The article investigates the regularities of the use of two forms of the accusative case of the plural of the nouns – the names of creatures in the Ukrainian folk and literary language. Special attention is paid to the form that coincides with the nominative case and is a typical feature of the folk language. The history of the entry of the form of the accusative case of the plural, common with the nominative case, into the system of inflexion of nouns of the Ukrainian literary language is traced. The area of distribution of each of the forms of the accusative case of the plural is determined. The list of nouns – the names of unpersons, which in the accusative case of the plural have the form of the nominative case, is offered. The causes and consequences of the expulsing of the forms of the nominative case of the plural by the forms of the genitive case in nouns – the names of creatures in the modern Ukrainian literary language – are clarified. It is stated that valid morphological literary norm does not correspond to the grammatical traditions of the Ukrainian folk language, because the forms, common to the nominative case, predominate in the folk language, whereas the forms, identical to the genitive case, prevail in the literary standard.

This article discusses the characteristics of various reference digital resources of the modern humanities. We have identified three main digital resources: a digital library resource, a multimedia digital system, and a multimedia encyclopedic database. These important resources are involved in creating a modern information society. In this context, the Ukrainian Literary Encyclopedia of the Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the creation of an independent multimedia encyclopedic database are considered.
У статті схарактеризовано різні типи цифрових довідникових ресурсів, що ними послуговується сучасна гуманітаристика, зокрема літературознавство. Виділено три основні з них, зокрема електронну ресурс-бібліотеку, мультимедійну електронну систему й мультимедійну енциклопедичну базу. З’ясовано важливість довідникових електронних ресурсів у процесах формування сучасного інформаційного суспільства. Окрему увагу звернено на проект видання «Української літературної енциклопедії» Інституту літератури імені Т. Г. Шевченка НАН України та необхідність створення окремої мультимедійної енциклопедичної бази літературної енциклопедії України.
