Opis:
The current paper focuses on assessing key parameters affecting the extraction of Chlorpyrifos as well as emulsion stability using the emulsion liquid membrane technology. Five parameters affecting the extraction have been studied: homogenizer speed, emulsification time, agitating time, surfactant concentration, and stripping phase concentration taking into consideration the emulsion breaking. Experiments proved that using the resulting optimum values will maximize both extraction and stripping efficiencies (93.8% and 94.7% respectively), while minimizing the emulsion breakage (increasing the stability of emulsion) to 0.73% with no need to employ a carrier agent. A 10 min agitating time, 3% (v/v) Span 80 as a surfactant, 12700-rpm homogenizer speed, 0.25 M HCl as an internal phase concentration, and 5 min emulsification time are chosen to be the optimum parameters’ values. A study of extraction kinetics and estimation of mass transfer coefficient was also accomplished (3.89×10-9m/s). The conclusions of this work can be extended to the removal of other types of pesticides from water.

Separation among rubidium and potassium ions from salt lake brines remains challenging. In this work, a typical room temperature ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-metyhlimidazaolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([C2mim+][NTf2-]) was used as diluent and synergistic extractant, dicyclohexano-18-crown-6 (DCH18C6) was used as extractant to extract rubidium ions from brine solutions which contain high concentrations of potassium ions was investigated. Under the optimal conditions, the single extraction efficiency of rubidium ions was up 93.63%. The thermodynamic parameters of the rubidium ion extraction were obtained. Based on the slope analysis method, the extracted species in the organic phase were ascertained as 1:1 complex. UV-visible has been performed to investigate the ion concentration of ionic liquid before and after the interaction of metal ions and ligands. Rubidium ions in [Rb · DCH18C6]+ complex were stripped by 2.5 mol · L–1 NH4NO3. The extraction system offers high efficiency, simplicity and environmentally friendly application prospect to separate rubidium from brine solutions.

Opis:
Addition of organic acids to dilute hydrochloric acid solution can improve the extraction of rare earth elements by single cationic extractants. However, the correlation between the chemical structure of organic acids and the extraction of REEs as well as the variation in equilibrium pH has not been elucidated. In this study, we investigated the extraction of Tb(III) from dilute HCl solutions containing an organic acid like formic, lactic, fumaric, or maleic acid. As extractants, single Cyanex 272, a mixture of Cyanex 272 and Alamine 336 (Ala336-Cy272), and an ionic liquid (ALi-Cy272) synthesized by Cyanex 272 and Aliquat 336 were used. The speciation of Tb(III) in dilute HCl solutions containing organic acids was analyzed. In extraction of Tb(III), organic acids showed two roles as complexing and buffering agent, which depended on the chemical structure of the acids. There was some difference in the extraction of Tb(III) between single Cyanex 272 and ionic liquid, ALi-Cy272. During extraction with ALi-Cy272, formic and lactic acid negatively affected the extraction of Tb(III). The fact that the chemical structure of organic acids affected the extraction of Tb(III) from dilute HCl solution by the studied extractants can provide important information on the selection of suitable extraction systems.

Opis:
In this article, we present the results of the first application of 2–benzoylpyridine (2–BP) as a carrier in adsorptive polymeric materials dedicated for the removal of Ag(I) and Cu(II) ions from model acidic solutions. In the first stage of the research, the classical solvent extraction, in which 2–BP was used as an extractant, allowed to determine the proper conditions for conducting adsorptive processes. The stability constants of 2–BP complexes with analyzed metal ions were determined using the spectrophotometric method. The electrospray ionization (ESI) high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) method was applied for the confirmation of the ability of 2–BP molecules to form complexes with Cu2 ̧ metal ions in a solution and to determine the elemental composition of generated complexes (to identify the ratio of the number of metal ions to the number of molecules of 2–BP). The obtained results indicate that both the adsorptive processes and solvent extraction strongly depend on the properties of metal ions and that the use of 2–BP as a carrier/extractant allows for efficient removal of silver(I) ions and much less effective removal of copper(II) ions. The utilization of adsorptive polymeric materials is in line with the contemporary research trends that focus on eco-friendly and cost-effective methods.

W artykule przedstawione zostały zagadnienia związane z opracowaniem metodyki chromatograficznego oznaczania wielopierścieniowych węglowodorów aromatycznych w próbkach gleb. Do tego celu stosowano chromatograf cieczowy serii Vanquish Core firmy Thermo Scientific wyposażony w detektor fluorescencyjny (FLD) i detektor UV-ViS. W ramach prowadzonych badań określono optymalne parametry pracy chromatografu, takie jak: objętość próbki, rodzaj eluentów, szybkość przepływu eluentów, gradient eluentów w trakcie analizy chromatograficznej i czas analizy, oraz dobrano kolumnę chromatograficzną umożliwiającą selektywny rozdział analitów. Następnie wykonano kalibrację układu chromatograficznego i walidację metody analitycznej oznaczania WWA, stosując roztwory kalibracyjne opracowane na podstawie roztworu wzorcowego PAH-Mix nr ref. 722393 firmy Macherey-Nagel. Walidacja metody analitycznej obejmowała wyznaczenie liniowości, odchylenia standardowego, względnego odchylenia standardowego, granicy wykrywalności (LOD) i granicy oznaczalności (LOQ) badanych WWA. Chromatograficzna metoda identyfikacji WWA w próbkach gleb wymaga przeprowadzenia analitów z matrycy stałej do matrycy ciekłej (etap izolacji), oczyszczenia próbki z substancji przeszkadzających oraz zagęszczenia ekstraktu (etap wzbogacania). W celu opracowania metody oznaczania WWA w próbkach gleb sprawdzono 3 metody przygotowania próbek do analizy chromatograficznej HPLC: metodę A (metoda QuEChERS), metodę B (ekstrakcja rozpuszczalnikiem w aparacie Soxhleta) i metodę C (ekstrakcja rozpuszczalnikiem wspomagana wytrząsaniem). Otrzymane ekstrakty były następnie oczyszczane na wybranym materiale sorpcyjnym: MgSO4 i PSA (metoda A), CN/SiOH (metoda B) i Al2O3 (metoda C). Do przetestowania wybranych metod przygotowania próbek gleby do analizy chromatograficznej HPLC wykorzystano glebę wzorcową PAHs by HPLC40g (SQC017-40G) firmy Sigma Aldrich, o znanych stężeniach analitów. Oczyszczone ekstrakty poddano analizie chromatograficznej HPLC, obejmującej identyfikację oraz ilościowe oznaczenie poszczególnych WWA, oraz obliczono stopnie odzysku analitów. Na podstawie analiz chromatograficznych i stopni odzysku wytypowano optymalną metodykę przygotowania próbek gleb do analizy chromatograficznej pod kątem oznaczania wielopierścieniowych węglowodorów aromatycznych. Opracowaną metodykę oznaczania WWA w próbkach gleb przetestowano na rzeczywistych próbkach gruntu pobranych z 2 otworów badawczych zlokalizowanych na terenie kopalni ropy naftowej usytuowanej w południowo-wschodniej Polsce.
The article presents issues related to the development of a methodology for the chromatographic determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in soil samples. For this purpose, a Vanquish Core series liquid chromatograph by Thermo Scientific equipped with a fluorescence detector (FLD) und UV-ViS detector was used. As part of the research, the optimal parameters of the chromatograph work were determined, such as sample volume, type of eluents, eluent flow rate, eluent gradient during the chromatographic analysis and analysis time, and the chromatographic column was selected to enable selective separation of analytes. Then, the chromatographic system was calibrated and the analytical method for PAH determination was validated using calibration solutions prepared on the basis of the PAH-Mix standard solution ref. 722393 from Macherey-Nagel. The validation of the analytical method included the determination of results linearity, standard deviation and relative standard deviation, as well as limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) of the tested method. The chromatographic method of identifying PAHs in soil samples requires the transfer analytes from a solid matrix to a liquid matrix (isolation stage), removal of interfering substances from the sample and concentration of extracts (enrichment stage). Soil samples were tested with 3 methods of sample preparation for HPLC analysis: method A (QuEChERS method), method B (solvent extraction in a Soxhlet apparatus), method C (solvent extraction with shaking). The obtained extracts were then purified on the selected sorption material: MgSO4 and PSA (method A), CN/SiOH (method B) and Al2O3 (method C). Standard soil PAHs by HPLC40g (SQCo17-40g) from Sigma Aldrich with known analyte concentrations was used to test selected methods of preparing soil samples for HPLC chromatographic analysis. The purified extracts were subjected to HPLC chromatographic analysis including identification and quantification of individual PAHs, and the recovery rates of the analytes were calculated. On the basis of chromatographic analyzes and degrees of recovery, the most optimal methodology for preparing soil samples for chromatographic analysis for the determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons was selected. The developed methodology for determination of PAHs in soil samples was tested on real soil samples collected from 2 boreholes located in an oil mine site in south-eastern Poland.

Opis:
Emulsion Liquid Membrane (ELM) has garnered much attention, for its simple operation and high selectivity for the target solute. For an ELM process to be successful, emulsion stability and formulation of liquid membrane are the two main criteria. This study investigated an ELM formulation to identify a suitable green surfactant over the ordinary ones to reduce the utilization of chemicals. The stability of water-in-oil-in-water (w/o/w) was assessed in the following ways, by altering the concentrations of the egg yolk and NaOH, homogenizer speed, and emulsification time. To ascertain the favorable conditions for phenol extraction, several experiments were performed, adopting the batch process, which included many parameters, like the influence exerted by the pH of the external feed, concentration of surfactant, concentration of the internal phase, time of emulsification, homogenization speed and mixing time. Lower breakage and greater extraction efficiency (0.83% and 82.06%, respectively) were attained at 3.5 pH of the external feed, 4% (v/v) of the surfactant, 0.1 M of NaOH, 7 min of emulsification time, 5800 rpm of homogenizer speed and 3 minutes of mixing time. From the results of this study, egg yolk emerged as a good green surfactant. Thus, the ELM process holds promise as an effective technology for stripping phenol from aqueous solutions.

Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of this work is to consider the complications that arise while operating gas condensate wells, in particular, the accumulation of hydrocarbon condensate, formation and condensation water at wells and flowlines, to develop a method for removing liquid from wells and flowlines before it entering a gas treatment unit and being treated with surfactants and to develop a method for the foam destruction in the gas-liquid flow. Design/methodology/approach: The operational parameters of gas-condensate wells of the Yuliivske oil and gas condensate field (OGCF) have been analysed. Wells have been identified that are operated in difficult conditions due to the accumulation of the liquid at the bottom hole and in flowlines. The volume of the liquid accumulated at the bottom hole of gas condensate wells is estimated. The quantity of surfactants, the volume and concentration of the solution required to remove the liquid were calculated individually for each well. The program of experimental researches has been made. The efficiency of the application of surfactant solution was experimentally determined and a positive result was achieved in the form of an increase in production by 10%. A new approach to the use of surfactant solution, as well as the foam destruction, has been proposed. The studies were performed within the framework of research and development work by the specialists of the Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of Natural Gases. Findings: Comprehensive measures are proposed to increase the efficiency of gas condensate wells operation. They are monitoring of operational parameters of wells by pressure and temperature gauges installed at the wellhead and at the inlet gas pipelines of the gas treatment unit; calculation of the volume of accumulated fluid in the wellbore and flowline; installation of a complex of automated feeding a surfactant solution of both in the annulus of the wells and in the flowline. For this purpose, two options for the complex and and have a different principle of operation. To prevent foam from entering the gas treatment unit, a method of its destruction has been proposed. The implementation of the proposed comprehensive measures will allow controlling the well operation mode, timely liquid removal from the well and the flowline and ensure stable hydrocarbon production. Research limitations/implications: The obtained results of laboratory and experimental studies have shown that using a surfactant solution is reasonable to remove the liquid from gas condensate wells. To increase the efficiency of the measure, a new method of feeding surfactant solution was developed by installing a unit for automated feeding (UAF) of a surfactant solution at the mouth. Practical implications: The results of laboratory tests allow using a surfactant solution reasonably in order to remove the liquid from gas condensate wells, as well as possible further destruction of foam in the gas-liquid flow for increasing both the efficiency of the extraction and production volume. Originality/value: On the basis of previously performed experimental research, it has been established that it is advisable to use a surfactant solution to remove the liquid from gas condensate wells and flowlines. A new method of removing liquid from gas condensate wells and flowlines has been developed, as well as a method of destroying foam in a gas-liquid flow, which are original and can be implemented.

The present research aims at studying the extractability of Nd(III) by Cyanex® 572 as a new extractant form from nitrate solutions. The effects of contact time, the concentration of nitrate ion, hydrogen ion, and extractant, and type of diluent were discussed, suggesting that the extraction of neodymium with Cyanex 572 was found to be a cation-exchange mechanism releasing three $H^+$ ion during the extraction. Cation- exchange mechanism of Nd(III) with Cyanex 572 was studied using slope analysis. Hydrogen ion concentration strongly influences the extraction behavior of Nd(III) in the solvent extraction. Results showed that three moles of Cyanex 572 are incorporated in the extraction process of one-mole neodymium(III) from the aqueous solutions. The concentration of nitrate ion in the aqueous solution has positive effect on the extraction efficiency of neodymium due to the salting out effect. The type of diluent influences the extraction efficiency of Nd(III). Results indicated that non-polar diluents were suitable solvents for the extraction of neodymium(III).

This work presents studies on the recovery of platinum group metals (PGM), especially platinum and rhodium, from spent automotive converters using hydrometallurgical techniques such as leaching and liquid-liquid extraction. The XRD analysis confirmed the presence of indialite – the high temperature hexagonal form of cordierite (the main catalyst building material) in the solid samples. The influence of time and temperature on the leaching of PGM from spent automotive converters was investigated. The largest amounts of Pt(IV) and Rh(III) were leached with freshly prepared aqua regia and a mixture of HCl, $H_2SO_4$ , and $H2O_2$. Further, liquid-liquid extraction with quaternary phosphonium ionic liquid (Cyphos IL 101) was applied to recover PGM from the leach solutions (after leaching with a mixture of HCl, $H_2SO_4$, and $H_2O_2$ and to separate Pt(IV) from Rh(III).

Because of industrialization and modernization, phenomenal changes have taken place in almost all spheres of life. Consequently, the consumption of energy resources and the cases of environmental hazards have risen to an unprecedentedly high level. A development model with due consideration to nature and an efficient utilization of energy sources has become the need of the hour, in order to ensure a sustainable balance between the environmental and technological needs. Recent studies have identified the suitability of ionic liquids (ILs), often labeled as ‘green solvents’, in the efficient utilization of energy resources and activities such as bio-extraction, pollution control, CO2 capture, waste management etc. in an environmentally friendly manner. The advent of magnetic ionic liquids (MILs) and deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have opened possibilities for a circular economic approach in this filed. This review intends to analyze the environmental and energy wise consumption of a wide variety of ionic liquids and their potential towards future.

Liquid Metal Extraction process using molten Mg was carried out to obtain Nd-Mg alloys from Nd based permanent magnets at 900°C for 24 h. with a magnet to magnesium mass ratio of 1:10. Nd was successfully extracted from magnet into Mg resulting in ~4 wt.% Nd-Mg alloy. Nd was recovered from the obtained Nd-Mg alloys based on the difference in their vapor pressures using vacuum distillation. Vacuum distillation experiments were carried out at 800°C under vacuum of 2.67 Pa at various times for the recovery of high purity Nd. Nd having a purity of more than 99% was recovered at distillation time of 120 min and above. The phase transformations of the Nd-Mg alloy during the process, from Mg12Nd to α-Nd, were confirmed as per the phase diagram at different distillation times. Pure Nd was recovered as a result of two step recycling process; Liquid Metal Extraction followed by Vacuum Distillation.

Opis:
In the present study, 34 samples of pasteurised, ultra-high-temperature (UHT) treated milk and milk products (cheese, yoghurt and baby foods) in the city of Olsztyn, Poland, were analysed for aflatoxin M1 (AFM1). All samples were cleaned up using immunoaffinity column according to Romer Labs®procedure with minor modification. The Aflatoxin M1 levels were investigated by high performance liquid chromatography with a fluorescence detection (LC-FLD) and post - column derivatization following sample clean-up using AflaStar™ M1immunoaffinity columns (Romer Labs®, Inc., America). The mean recovery of the method was 95 %. The standard curve was linear in the range of 0.01 – 0.25 μg/Lwith correlation coefficient of 0.9998. The limit of detection was 0.01 μg/L. Results showed 27 (79.4%) positive samples for AFM1 at levels of 0.010-0.053 μg/L, which were below the tolerance limit of 0.500 μg/L as adopted for AFM1 in this products by EU regulations. Mean levels of AFM1 in pasteurized and UHT milk were 0.022±0,006 μg/L and 0.030±0,002 μg/L, respectively. However, only one sample among milk samples was contaminated at a level above the maximum permissible limit (0.050 μg/L) accepted by European Union and Poland for aflatoxin M1 and six of seven samples of baby food were contaminated at a level above the maximum permissible limit (0.025 μg/L). It is concluded that the incidence of AFM1 in milk traded in Olsztyn is high, but at levels that probably leads to a non-significant human exposure to AFM1 by consumption of milk. Experimental results show that, in comparison to milk samples, AFM1 contamination level was higher in samples of baby food. These data suggest that AFM1 concentration in milk could be good predictor of its fate in milk products, especially for infants and babies. The results of this study imply that more emphasis should be given to the routine AFM1inspection of milk and milk products in Poland. Furthermore, both farmers and dairy companies should be informed on the importance of AFM1, and the consequences of the presence of the aflatoxin in dairy products.

Średnie poziomy AFM1 w mleku pasteryzowanym i UHT wynosiły odpowiednio 0,022 ± 0,006 μg/L i 0,030 ± 0,002 μg/L.

Opis:
Liquid metal extraction (LME) process results in 100% neodymium (Nd) extraction but the highest extraction efficiency reportedfor Dysprosium (Dy) so far is 74%. Oxidation of Dy is the major limiting factor for incomplete Dy extraction. In order to enhance the extraction efficiency and to further investigate the limiting factors for incomplete extraction, experiments were carried out on six different particle sizes of under 200 μm, 200-300 μm, 300-700 μm, 700-1000 μm, 1000-2000 μm and over 2000 μm at 900°C with magnesium-to-magnet scrap ratio of 15:1 for 6, 24 and 48 hours, respectively. This research identified Dy2 Fe17 in addition toDy2 O3 phase to be responsible for incomplete extraction. The relationship between Dy2 Fe17 and Dy2O3 phase was investigated, and the overall extraction efficiency of Dy was enhanced to 97%.

Opis:
Recently, since the demand of rare earth permanent magnet for high temperature applications such as an electric motor has increased, dysprosium (Dy), a heavy rare earth element, is becoming important due to severe bias in its production. To fulfillthe increasing need of Dy, recycling offers as a promising alternative. In recycling of rare earths, Hydro-metallurgical extraction method is mainly used however it has adverse environmental effects. Liquid metal extraction on the other hand, is an eco-friendly and simple method as far as the reduction of rare earth metal oxide is concerned. Therefore, liquid metal extraction was studied in this research as an alternative to the hydro-metallurgical recycling method. Magnesium (Mg) is selected as solvent metal because it doesn’t form intermetallic compounds with Fe, B and has a low melting and low boiling point. Extraction behavior of Dy in (Nd,Dy)-Fe-B magnet is observed and effect of Mg ratio on extraction of Dy is confirmed.

Opis:
Multiphase extraction (MPE) was applied as a developed, convenient and efficient method in separation of ephedrine from Pinellia ternata. Firstly, in order to increase the adsorption efficiency, bionic liquid-modified polymer was created. Comparing the effects of all sorbents under variables conditions, the highest amount of 5.8 mg/g can be adsorbed on dual imidazole ionic liquid modified polymer (Im-Im-Poly) in methanol/water (70:30, v/v) solution at 25°C within 30.0 min. Then the Im-Im-Poly was applied in MPE, after 7 times repetition of extraction, around 1.0 mg/g of ephedrine from Pinellia ternata was detected. After washing by water, ethanol and methanol, and elution by methanol/acetic acid (99.0:1.0, v/v), ephedrine was successfully separated.
