Opis:
The paper describes the results of quadrocopters motion properties for the control based on the inverse dynamics method and optimal control method with synthesis linear-quadratic regulator (LQR). Motion of quadrocopters is tested for composite trajectories. The new model of asymmetrical quadrocopters, taking into account the rotation and shift of one arm relative to the other, was developed. A few criteria for evaluation of the effectiveness of control methods of quadrocopters are presented in this paper. An analysis of the results allows selecting a method for solving the problem of quadrocopters control and making recommendations for the formation of trajectories.

Opis:
The paper concerns the issue of optimum control of the strongly non-linear dynamic system, i.e. Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM). The linear-quadratic regulator (LQR) was used to provide control capabilities. In order to use the classic LQR, the dynamics of the object must be presented in the form of a linear-stationary model. This is not possible in the case of the considered missile, mostly due to mass changing in time (intensive consumption of fuel) and varying aerodynamic conditions depending on the Mach number Ma. Thus, we are dealing with a non-stationary system. Moreover, state variables are frequently involved in complex functions, which do not allow one to separate coefficients related to state variables very easily. In order to linearize such a complex system, the paper uses Jacobian, as the matrix of state, calculated at each time instant. The automatic pilot of the ATGM, using the LQR method, determines the signals controlling the angles of flight control surfaces and the thrust vector using continuously calculated Jacobians. The paper presents the algorithm for the ATGM control.

In this paper, a nonlinear balancing cube system is considered, the concept for which is based on an inverted pendulum. The main purpose of this work was the modelling and construction of a balancing cube with the synthesis of the control system. The control objectives included swing-up and stabilization of the cube on its vertex at an unstable equilibrium. Execution of the intended purpose required, first, deriving a cognitive mathematical model. It was based on the Lagrange method. Next, a mathematical model for control purposes was derived. The project of the physical model of the balancing cube was presented. A stabilization system based on a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) was developed. Moreover, a swing-up mechanism was used to bring the cube close to the upper equilibrium point. The algorithm switching condition was important to enable the correct functioning of the system. The developed control system was verified in the Matlab environment. Finally, verifying experiments and comparisons among models (mathematical and physical) were performed.

Opis:
The conventional control system is a controller that controls or regulates the dynamics of any other process. From time to time, a conventional control system may not behave appropriately online; this is because of many factors like a variation in the dynamics of the process itself, unexpected changes in the environment, or even undefined parameters of the system model. To overcome this problem, we have designed and implemented an adaptive controller. This paper discusses the design of a controller for a ball and beam system with Genetic Model Reference Adaptive Control (GMRAC) for an adaptive mechanism with the MIT rule. Parameter adjustment (selection) should occur using optimization methods to obtain an optimal performance, so the genetic algorithm (GA) will be used as an optimization method to obtain the optimum values for these parameters. The Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) controller will be used as it is one of the most popular controllers. The performance of the proposed controller with the ball and beam system will be carried out with MATLAB Simulink in order to evaluate its effectiveness. The results show satisfactory performance where the position of the ball tracks the desired model reference.

Opis:
This paper describes a discrete adaptive linear quadratic regulator used to load current control in terms of variable DC voltage of inverter. Controller was designed by using linear quadratic optimization method. Adaptive LQR was used because of non-stationarity of the control system caused by Voltage Matching Circuit - VMC. Gain values of the adaptive controller were approximated by using an artificial neural network. The VMC was realized as an additional buck converter integrated with the main inverter. As the load of the 2-level inverter a 3-phase symmetric RL circuit was used. Simulation tests show the behavior of the load current regulation during DC bus voltage level step changes. The dependence between current RMS value and inverter DC bus voltage level was also shown. There were also made a comparison of the traditional 2-level inverter structure with the modified structure uses VMC. Simulation test was made by using Matlab Simulink and PLECS software.

Opis:
Torsional vibrations induced in drilling systems are detrimental to the condition of the machine and to the effectiveness of the engineering process. The cause of vibrations is a nonlinear and unknown friction between a drill string and the environment, containing jumps in its characteristics. Nonlinear behaviour of the friction coefficient results in self-excited vibration and causes undesirable stick-slip oscillations. The aim of this paper is to present a novel adaptive technique of controlling vibrating systems. The scheme is based on the linear quadratic regulator and uses direct measurements of the friction torque to synthesize its linear dynamic approximation. This approach allows generating a control law that takes into account the impact of the friction on the system dynamics and optimally steers the system to the desired trajectory. The controller’s performance is examined via numerical simulations of the stabilization of the drilling system. The proposed solution outperforms the comparative LQG regulator in terms of the minimization of the assumed cost functional and the overall stability of the control system under the nonlinear disturbance.

In this article we focus on the balanced truncation linear quadratic regulator (LQR) with constrained states and inputs. For closed-loop, we want to use the LQR to find an optimal control that minimizes the objective function which called "the quadratic cost function” with respect to the constraints on the states and the control input. In order to do that we have used formal asymptotes for the Pontryagin maximum principle (PMP) and we introduce an approach using the so called The Hamiltonian Function and the underlying algebraic Riccati equation. The theoretical results are validated numerically to show that the model order reduction based on open-loop balancing can also give good closed-loop performance.

A two-wheeled balancing robot is one type of structures based on the principle of a mobile inverted pendulum. The main aim of controlling a balancing robot is to stabilise it at the upper equilibrium point and to enable its movement with the set speed. In this paper, a synthesis of a balancing robot control system has been given. Within its framework, based on the model using Newton's laws, a feedforward state-feedback control system structure has been designed. The controller parameter values have been computed using optimisation tools. More specifically, the linear-quadratic regulator (LQR) has been designed. Moreover, due to the insufficient quality of measurements used in the control system, a linear discrete Kalman filter has been developed. The complete control system has been implemented and tested in the Matlab/Simulink environment.

Opis:
This paper presents an analytical approach for solving the weighting matrices selection problem of a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) for the trajectory tracking application of a magnetic levitation system. One of the challenging problems in the design of LQR for tracking applications is the choice of Q and R matrices. Conventionally, the weights of a LQR controller are chosen based on a trial and error approach to determine the optimum state feedback controller gains. However, it is often time consuming and tedious to tune the controller gains via a trial and error method. To address this problem, by utilizing the relation between the algebraic Riccati equation (ARE) and the Lagrangian optimization principle, an analytical methodology for selecting the elements of Q and R matrices has been formulated. The novelty of the methodology is the emphasis on the synthesis of time domain design specifications for the formulation of the cost function of LQR, which directly translates the system requirement into a cost function so that the optimal performance can be obtained via a systematic approach. The efficacy of the proposed methodology is tested on the benchmark Quanser magnetic levitation system and a detailed simulation and experimental results are presented. Experimental results prove that the proposed methodology not only provides a systematic way of selecting the weighting matrices but also significantly improves the tracking performance of the system.

This paper presents the design and analysis process of state feedback controllers for NPC type 3-level sine wave inverter. In order to achieve good dynamic features in a state feedback control an internal model of reference input and a feedforward path are introduced. During synthesis process of the state feedback controllers maximum permissible dynamics of voltage control in the linear range of modulation is taken into account. It is shown that initially gains of the controller and feedforward path are non-stationary and depend on the angular velocity. Stationary approximation of a non-stationary state feedback controller is presented in details. Proposed state feedback control structures for continuous voltage shaping NPC type 3-level voltage source inverter are examined in FOC PMSM drive. The novelty of the presented controller lays in a stationary approximated state feedback control structure designed in terms of maximum permissible dynamics of a voltage control system. Simulation and experimental results (at the level of 3 kW) of the designed control algorithms are included.

Speed control of a DC motor is critical in most industrial systems where accuracy and protection are of essence. This paper presents simulations of Proportional Integral Derivative Controller (PID) on a 16-bit PIC 24F series microcontroller for speed control of a DC motor in the presence of load torque. The PID gains have been tuned by Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) technique and then it is implemented on a microcontroller using MPLAB, and finally simulated for speed control of a DC motor in Proteus Virtual System Modeling (VSM) software. Proteus has built in feature to add load torque to a DC motor so simulation results have been presented in three cases speed of DC motor is controlled without load torque, with 25% load torque and with 50% load torque. In all three cases PID effectively controls the speed of DC motor with minimum steady state error.

The PID-type regulators are one of the most commonly used in control systems. Therefore, there are many different methods of selecting values of their parameters. Apart from various engineering or analytical methods of tuning such controllers, there are also approaches based on optimisation. In the latter case, a typical performance index is integral square error (ISE). In this paper, an alternative method of PID parameters tuning has been presented. This approach is based on a solution of the linear-square optimisation task with energy-based performance index. In the result, a state-feedback controller is obtained. Subsequently, the state-feedback gains are translated into PID regulator parameters. The proposed approach has been illustrated using a non-linear mathematical model of a double inverted pendulum.

Ship navigation safety in restricted water areas is of great concern to crew members, because ships sailing in close proximity to banks are significantly affected by the so-called ship-bank interaction. The purpose of this paper is to apply the optimal control theory to help helmsmen adjust ships’ course and maintain the target course in restricted waters. To achieve this objective, the motion of a very large crude carrier (VLCC) close to a bank is modeled with the linear equations of manoeuvring and the influence of bank effect on the ship hydrodynamic force is considered in the model. State-space framework is cast in a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system, where the offset-free model predictive control (MPC) is designed for course following and the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) is used for course keeping. Simulation results show that the control methods effectively work in ship course following and course keeping with varying ship-bank distances and water depths. The advantage of adopting speed variation as the second control input is obvious.
