Opis:
The method of controlling an overhead crane with respect to the variation of operating conditions and control constraints is developed using a model predictive control (MPC) and fuzzy interpolation applied in linear parameter varying (LPV) approach to crane dynamic modelling. The proposed control approach is based on the assumption that operating conditions vary within the known range of scheduling variables, and the parameters of a crane dynamic model can be interpolated by a quasi-linear fuzzy model designed through utilizing the P1-TS fuzzy theory. Hence, a crane dynamic is approximated through interpolation between a set of local linear models determined through identification experiments at the local operating points selected within the bounded intervals of scheduling variables. For the modelling assumptions, the control algorithm is developed based on a generalized predictive control (GPC) procedure taking into consideration the constraints on sway angle of a payload and control signal. Feasibility and applicability of the proposed control technique were confirmed during experiments carried out on a laboratory-scaled overhead crane. The results of experiments are presented and compared with performances of a fuzzy logic-based scheduling control scheme.

Opis:
The predictive control scheme is developed for an overhead crane using the generalized predictive procedure applied for the discrete time linear parameter-varying model of a crane dynamic. The robust control technique is developed with respect to the constraints of sway angle of a payload and control input signal. The two predictive strategies are presented and compared experimentally. In the first predictive control scheme, the online estimation of the parameters of a crane dynamic model is performed using the recursive least square algorithm. The second approach is a sensorless anti-sway control strategy. The sway angle feedback signal is estimated by a linear parameter-varying model of an unactuated pendulum system with the parameters interpolated using a quasi-linear fuzzy model designed through utilizing the P1-TS fuzzy theory. The fuzzy interpolator is applied to approximate the parameters of a crane discrete-time dynamic model within the range of scheduling variables changes: the rope length and mass of a payload. The experiments carried out on a laboratory scaled overhead crane confirmed effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed solutions. The implementation of control systems was performed using the PAC system with RX3i controller. The series of experiments carried out for different operating points proved robustness of the control approaches presented in the article.

This article investigates the robust stabilization and control of the inverted pendulum on a cart against disturbances, measure-ment noises, and parametric uncertainties by the LFT-based LPV technique (Linear-Fractional-Transformation based Linear-Parameter-Varying). To make the applying of the LPV technique possible, the LPV representation of the inverted pendulum on a cart model is devel-oped. Besides, the underactuated constraint of this vehicle is overcome by considering both degrees of freedom (the rotational one and the translational one) in the structure. Moreover, the selection of the weighting functions that represent the desired performance is solved by two approaches of evolutionary algorithms; Genetic Algorithms (GA) and Evolutionary Strategies (ES) to find the weighting functions’ optimal parameters. To validate the proposed approach, simulations are performed and they show the effectiveness of the proposed approach to obtain robust controllers against external signals, as well as the parametric uncertainties.

In this paper, we propose a concept of a continuous-time filter of constant component that exhibits a very short response in the time domain if compared to the traditional time-invariant filter. The improvement of the filter dynamics was achieved as a result of the time-varying parameters which were introduced to the filter structure. Such a designed filter is then applied in a system which switches many distorted signals which should be filtered as fast as possible. The paper is of review nature and presents both a theoretical background of the proposed filter and the results of simulations.

Opis:
Linear parameter varying (LPV) models are being increasingly used as a bridge between linear and nonlinear models. From a mathematical point of view, a large class of nonlinear models can be rewritten in LPV or quasi-LPV forms easing their analysis. From a practical point of view, that kind of model can be used for introducing varying model parameters representing, for example, nonconstant characteristics of a component or an equipment degradation. This approach is frequently employed in several model-based system maintenance methods. The identifiability of these parameters is then a key issue for estimating their values based on which a decision can be made. However, the problem of identifiability of these models is still at a nascent stage. In this paper, we propose an approach to verify the identifiability of unknown parameters for LPV or quasi-LPV state-space models. It makes use of a parity-space like formulation to eliminate the states of the model. The resulting input-output-parameter equation is analyzed to verify the identifiability of the original model or a subset of unknown parameters. This approach provides a framework for both continuous-time and discrete-time models and is illustrated through various examples.

Opis:
In this paper, a Fault Tolerant Control (FTC) strategy for Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) systems that can be used in the case of actuator faults is proposed. The idea of this FTC method is to adapt the faulty plant instead of adapting the controller to the faulty plant. This approach can be seen as a kind of virtual actuator. An integrated FTC design procedure for the fault identification and fault-tolerant control schemes using LPV techniques is provided as well. Fault identification is based on the use of an Unknown Input Observer (UIO). The FTC controller is implemented as a state feedback controller and designed using polytopic LPV techniques and Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) regions in such a way as to guarantee the closed-loop behavior in terms of several LMI constraints. To assess the performance of the proposed approach, a two degree of freedom helicopter is used.

Opis:
A multi-level reconfiguration framework is proposed for fault tolerant control of over-actuated aerial vehicles, where the levels indicate how much authority is given to the reconfiguration task. On the lowest, first level the fault is accommodated by modifying only the actuator/sensor configuration, so the fault remains hidden from the baseline controller. A dynamic reallocation scheme is applied on this level. The allocation mechanism exploits the actuator/sensor redundancy available on the aircraft. When the fault cannot be managed at the actuator/sensor level, the reconfiguration process has access to the baseline controller. Based on the LPV control framework, this is done by introducing fault-specific scheduling parameters. The baseline controller is designed to provide an acceptable performance level along all fault scenarios coded in these scheduling variables. The decision on which reconfiguration level has to be initiated in response to a fault is determined by a supervisor unit. The method is demonstrated on a full six-degrees-of-freedom nonlinear simulation model of the GTM UAV.

Opis:
The linear parameter varying (LPV) approach has proved to be suitable for controlling many non-linear systems. However, for those which are highly non-linear and complex, the number of scheduling variables increases rapidly. This fact makes the LPV controller implementation not feasible for many real systems due to memory constraints and computational burden. This paper considers the problem of reducing the total number of LPV controller gains by determining a heuristic methodology that combines two vertices of a polytopic LPV model such that the same gain can be used in both vertices. The proposed algorithm, based on the use of the Gershgorin circles, provides a combinability ranking for the different vertex pairs, which helps in solving the reduction problem in fewer attempts. Simulation examples are provided in order to illustrate the main characteristics of the proposed approach.

This paper proposes a fault tolerant control scheme based on an unknown input observer for a wind turbine system subject to an actuator fault and disturbance. Firstly, an unknown input observer for state estimation and fault detection using a linear parameter varying model is developed. By solving linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) and linear matrix equalities (LMEs), the gains of the unknown input observer are obtained. The convergence of the unknown input observer is also analysed with Lyapunov theory. Secondly, using fault estimation, an active fault tolerant controller is applied to a wind turbine system. Finally, a simulation of a wind turbine benchmark with an actuator fault is tested for the proposed method. The simulation results indicate that the proposed FTC scheme is efficient.

This investigation is concerned with robust analysis and control of uncertain nonlinear systems with parametric uncertainties. In contrast to the methodologies from the field of linear parameter varying systems, which employ convex structures of the state space representation in order to perform analysis and design, the proposed approach makes use of a polytopic form of a generalisation of the characteristic polynomial, which proves to outperform former results on the subject. Moreover, the derived conditions have the advantage of being cast as linear matrix inequalities under mild assumptions.

Opis:
Light flexible structures are easily prone to vibrate due to external forces or due to forces generated in the inner structure. This situation is common in machinery or mechanical structures with rotational devices. The unwanted vi-bration of such structures can be compensated with the addition of piezoelectric actuators for active vibration control (AVC). The rejection of harmonic disturbances is frequently done with controllers based on the internal model principle. The goal of this research is to reduce the effect of harmonic disturbances with known (measured) time-varying fre¬quencies acting on a system as well as to increase the damping of the system for the transient response (first mode of vibration). The experimental setup is made up of a slender aluminium flexible beam, a pair of piezoelectric actuators, an accelerometer and two DC motors, as well as the data acquisition and signal conditioning equipment. The harmonic disturbance is generated by DC motors. The control design utilizes an augmented description of the plant. The plant including the disturbance is modelled as a polytopic linear parameter-varying (pLPV) system. An observer-based gain-scheduling controller is calculated based on quadratic stability and the stability is guaranteed for the specified range ofvariation of the scheduling parameters, also restriction in the performance is introduced in the sense of the H2-norm. Experimental results show very good disturbance cancellation.

Opis:
A solution for fault tolerant control (FTC) of a quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is proposed. It relies on model reference-based control, where a reference model generates the desired trajectory. Depending on the type of reference model used for generating the reference trajectory, and on the assumptions about the availability and uncertainty of fault estimation, different error models are obtained. These error models are suitable for passive FTC, active FTC and hybrid FTC, the latter being able to merge the benefits of active and passive FTC while reducing their respective drawbacks. The controller is generated using results from the robust linear parameter varying (LPV) polytopic framework, where the vector of varying parameters is used to schedule between uncertain linear time invariant (LTI) systems. The design procedure relies on solving a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) in order to achieve regional pole placement and H∞ norm bounding constraints. Simulation results are used to compare the different FTC strategies.

Opis:
The concept of combining robust fault estimation within a controller system to achieve active Fault Tolerant Control (FTC) has been the subject of considerable interest in the recent literature. The current study is motivated by the need to develop model-based FTC schemes for systems that have no unique equilibria and are therefore difficult to linearise. Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) strategies are well suited to model-based control and fault estimation for such systems. This contribution involves pole-placement within suitable LMI regions, guaranteeing both stability and performance of a multi-fault LPV estimator employed within an FTC structure. The proposed design strategy is illustrated using a nonlinear two-link manipulator system with friction forces acting simultaneously at each joint. The friction forces, regarded as a special case of actuator faults, are estimated and their effect is compensated within a polytope controller system, yielding a robust form of active FTC that is easy to apply to real robot systems.
