Opis:
Recent research suggests that individual values play a significant role in the structuring and functioning of a lifestyle. In the present study we empirically examine the relation between individual values and lifestyles and describe its peculiarities. The article covers the results of quantitative content analysis and principal component analysis, carried out for empirical indicators of lifestyle for Ukrainian high school students and undergraduates (N = 170). The results are presented by eleven components distinguished as a result of the empirical study, which describe individual lifestyles in their connection with basic human values. Our findings suggest that basic human values serve as the ground for individual lifestyle construction and life practices or arrangements.

Background. Proper nutrition and balanced physical activity have a beneficial effect on the growth and development of young athletes, supporting their endurance and health, which is particularly important in the period of adolescence. Objective. Aim of this study was to assess eating behaviours, frequency of consumption of some food products and selected elements of lifestyle among young dancers, as well as to compare the age of the dancers and the assessed behavior. Material and methods. The study included 198 dancers aged 10-15 years. An originally developed questionnaire was used as a research tool. Results. The largest group of dancers (43%) spent on training up to 2 hours per week. The recommended 4-5 meals/day were consumed by 61.1% of dancers, with 87.4% of respondents having breakfast on a daily basis. The recommendations on the daily intake of several portions of fruit and vegetables were followed by 49% and 36.9% of dancers, respectively. It is observed, that the consumption rates of sweets increased, while the consumption rates of fruit decreased with dancers’ age. The consumption rates of packed lunch and afternoon snack increased, whereas the consumption rates of dinner decreased with an increasing number of hours spent training. Conclusions. Eating behaviours and the frequency of consumption of food products by young dancers can be described as varied. Their diet is characterised by regular consumption of meals and a correct frequency of consumption of most food products, including high intake of fruit and vegetables, yoghurt and kefir, as well as low consumption of fast food products. The selected elements of dancers’ lifestyle, such as sleep time and physical activity, are mostly correct.

Jeśli chodzi o częstotliwość spożycia, to zaobserwowano pozytywną korelację z wiekiem w kategorii mleka i sera dojrzewającego.

Unmarried couples and single people are not subject to social pressure to have children. The choice of a childfree lifestyle is associated with the choice of living in one-person household or in a non-marital relationship.

The article reveals the specific features of nomadism on the basis of an analysis of the work of poststructuralists, social philosophers. These include the increase in the speeds and frequency of movements of material and virtual objects; blurring the line between Home and work due to the proliferation of the Internet; short duration and simulative interpersonal contacts; a change in the topology of a social space designed according to the principles of a smooth and rhizome space in metropolis, which leads to a nonstop movement. It has been established that in Russian reality manifestations of nomadism can be found in the design and use of spaces of large cities, in the motorization of the population, the development of international and domestic tourism, as well as the emergence of the phenomenon of digital nomads.

Opis:
This article examines the phenomenon of solitary living as a consequence of the processes of individualization that are characteristic of the entire modern world. The urgency of this problem arises from the increase in the number of individuals who prefer to live alone. Although this trend is typical for Eastern Europe, as it is for the rest of the world, it is not widely considered in scientific circles. Whilst analyzing scientific literature in different spheres (philosophy, economics, psychology, sociology) and statistical data on solitary living, the author has come to the conclusion that to describe the phenomenon in a sociological vein, it is most appropriate to consider solitary living as a “solo-living” lifestyle. The article also examines the main studies of solitary living in Eastern Europe, and through such work, it was concluded that there is not enough research: current research mainly considers single living among the older generation, despite the fact that the number of young people who prefer this lifestyle continues to grow. In the course of the study, the author was faced with the problem of layering related concepts: solos, singles, solo-living, single-person households, and others. To avoid this problem, the author distinguishes between these concepts and makes an attempt to conceptualize the concept of “solo-living”, offers the author’s definition, and outlines further research prospects.

Opis:
The main aim of the analysis is to determine to what extent preference for specific musical genres is related to social position. The study was based on data from a survey conducted in 2019 on a random sample of Poles. The explained phenomena are six genres representing broad spectrum of musical tastes: classical music, jazz, rock, rap, pop, and disco polo. The results of the analysis indicate that the diversity of musical tastes does not come down to one dimension. Family socialization, educational level, and, in part, class position exert the highest impact not only on preferences of classical music but also on liking jazz, rock and disco polo. The class effect appears almost negligent in preference for pop and rap which lead us to general conclusion that cultural stratification does not cover all forms of activity having a selective effect. Musical preferences turn out to be extremely strongly connected with parent’s cultural capital and respondents’ level of education.

Purpose: This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of health education on adolescents' healthy lifestyle and health perceptions given an adolescent group. Materials and methods: The study's universe constitutes a total of 234 students attending the 9th grade of a high school. The study was constructed according to the single-group pre-test, quasi-experimental research model, in the 9th class in a high school. Data collection form, Adolescent lifestyle scale(ALS) and health perception scale were applied to the adolescents as a pre-test during the first phase of the study. The adolescents who were below the median score of ALS were accepted as the risk group and taken to the experimental group. Adolescents in the experimental group received a 6-week "Health Promotion Program" and a final test was given to the adolescents at the end of the training sessions. Descriptive statistics, Paired-t-test, independent-, and correlation were used in the evaluation of the data. Results: ALS total score was 94.52±9.53 before adolescents' health promotion education and 104.05±15.4 after education. The relationship between them was statistically significant(p<0.05). It was determined that the health perception of adolescents included in the study decreased after post-training total scores compared to the pre-training scores and that this relationship was statistically significant(p<0.05). Conclusion: Public health nurses may be recommended to develop healthy lifestyle behaviours by raising healthy adolescents by providing more adolescent education through school health services.

Opis:
A description of borderland as a space can be inspiring for an analytical presentation of other social phenomena in which coexisting borderline categories occur. An example is social stratification within which different groups of individuals referred to as layers, castes or classes can be distinguished. Their character is arbitrary, resulting from a concern for the conventional, often not very distinctive interests of some social groups. Since the 19th century, the most widespread stratification system in Western societies has been the class system. However, its analytical value has been fading due to the blurring of boundaries between particular classes. The social classes, on the one hand, are subject to strong internal differentiation and are losing their previous cohesion, and on the other hand, they are becoming similar in many respects. Therefore there is a need to create an alternative and more analytically useful way of categorizing societies in contemporary social sciences. Segmentation based on the category of lifestyle seems valuable, because lifestyle is what, in a particularly important way, differentiates in the social dimension individuals forming contemporary Western societies. At the same time, this category is so capacious and distinctive that it can be analytically useful for representatives of various social sciences. The aim of the paper is, first of all, to present the structural foundation of class systems, secondly, to identify the reasons for the loss of their analytical value, and thirdly, to discuss the scientifically useful segmentation of society relating to different lifestyles.

Opis:
Introduction. According to data, the most common causes of death in Poland are cardiovascular diseases. Technology development has a significant impact on cardiovascular morbidity. It is clear however, that mortality in cardiovascular diseases largely results from diseases related to atherosclerosis mainly due to ischemic heart disease, which is the cause of many premature deaths that occurred before the age of 65. The risk factors for ischemic heart disease include: the risk factor associated with lifestyle (high-calorie diet rich in saturated fats and cholesterol, smoking, excessive use of alcohol, low physical activity). Aim. The purpose of the study was to evaluate healthy lifestyle and health status before and after treatment in patients of Cardiology and Intensive Care Unit. Material and methods. The study was conducted in the Specialized Provincial Hospital in Ciechanów. The study group consisted of 70 patients staying in the Cardiology Ward and Intensive Care Unit. The study was conducted with the use of the diagnostic survey method. As a research tool, our own survey questionnaire was used. Results. The study has shown that before the illness, approximately 57% of the patients led healthy lifestyle. Currently, the percentage of people admitting to right behavior has risen to 87%. At the same time, the number of people who suffer from unhealthy lifestyles has dropped significantly. Prior to the disease, every third of the respondents controlled their health. Currently, almost all patients are doing this - 93%. The number of patients who currently do not control their health compared to the period before the onset of illness was clearly down. Currently, only 7% of patients do not do that. Conclusions. Keeping a healthy lifestyle and health check improved after the onset of the disease. The collected research material is the basis for confirming the hypothesis that patients in the majority after the onset of the disease change their lifestyle to a more healthy one.
Cel. Celem badań była ocena prowadzenia zdrowego stylu życia oraz kontroli stanu zdrowia przed i po zachorowaniu u pacjentów Oddziału Kardiologii i Pododdziału Intensywnej Opieki Kardiologicznej. Materiał i metody. Badania przeprowadzono w Specjalistycznym Szpitalu Wojewódzkim w Ciechanowie. Grupę badaną stanowiło 70 pacjentów przebywających w Oddziale Kardiologii i Pododdziale Intensywnej Opieki Kardiologicznej. Badania przeprowadzono metodą sondażu diagnostycznego. Jako narzędzie badawcze wykorzystano kwestionariusz ankiety własnej konstrukcji. Wyniki. Obecnie robią to prawie wszyscy pacjenci – 93%.

Opis:
The moral teaching of Jehovah’s Witnesses about the proper lifestyle em-phasizes, above all, due relations with parents and peers, entertainment and concern for the health of adolescents. In the articles of the Society of the Watchtower, the authors of the magazines emphasize that young people choose such friends for whom moral values are the basic measure of Christian life. The attitude of humiliation towards parents should result from purely religious reasons, and disobedience results in suspicion, lack of trust and abandonment of spiritual practices. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that young people reach for stimulants to alleviate problems. Regardless of the consequences, they destroy health and ruin their own future. The young man begins to compensate for the lack of due love by reaching for the drug. Young people use free time not always in a constructive way. They play sports, but often for vain competition and fame. They listen to loud music isolating themselves from external stimuli. They often fall into gambling and pornography, making themselves slaves of their own mistakes and falls. According to Jehovahʼs Witnesses, these symptoms mean “last days”. Only those who reject moral contamination can expect a beautiful future.

Introduction and objective. The nursing profession entails many negative factors and high risk of chronic diseases, including overweight and obesity. The aim of the study is to investigate the prevalence of overweight and obesity and health enhancing behaviours in Polish female nurses, and associations between overweight and 4 groups of such behaviours, age and shift work. Materials and method. The analysis covered data obtained through cross-sectional survey carried out in a group of 994 nurses with an average age of 43. The analysis covered answers about 29 health-enhancing behaviours divided into 4 categories (subscales): 1) nutrition, 2) physical activity, 3) sleep, rest and behaviours related to mental health, 4) preventive behaviours. They were analysed through the validated Positive Health Behaviours Scale for adults. The analysis also covered answers about avoiding drinking large amounts of alcohol in one go, not smoking, avoiding passive smoking, not abusing unprescribed drugs. Results. The prevalence of overweight and obesity was 44%. Of 29 health behaviours concerned with nutrition, physical activity, sleep, rest, and mental health, preventive behaviours, 3 were exhibited always or almost always by over a half of the nurses. Health behaviours were more common in nurses whose BMI was normal than in nurses with BMI ≥ 25.0. Age and low physical activity levels were related to overweight and obesity in nurses. Conclusions. The study revealed a high prevalence of overweight and obesity and many deficits in health behaviours. Obesity and health behaviour deficits pose risks to the health of nurses, limit their involvement in prevention and treatment of patient obesity and impact as health educators. It is essential to engage in actions for health promotion among nurses.

The aim of the study was to show the motives for physical activity by students of the High School named Władysław Orkan in Bieżuń. Also determined whether sex differentiates answer questions. The high school students are aware that physical activity is an important part of a healthy way of chewing. We are happy to undertake physical activity outside of physical education classes. It has been shown that boys often use forms of organized physical activity, while the girls of the individual. Both boys and girls frequently pointed out that the guiding impetus for making the activity is to improve the health and the desire to improve. For girls desire to achieve a healthy weight was important incentive to undertake physical activity than boys. The study also confirmed that the lack of desire, lack of time and fatigue are the most common barriers to making physical activity of youth. Replies both boys and girls were mostly questions converge, indicating little relevance to gender in this study.

The advice article is one of the multiple forms of expression in use among general lifestyle magazines aimed at women. Its shape, both style and structure-wise, allows authors to exhaust all the possibilities of persuasive action, which is typical for this group of magazines. The analysis of the materials, taken from ten separate magazines published in the first quarter of 2016, shows that the stylistic range of advice articles is not sophisticated, and so their style is definitely not the most important factor which determines the pleasure of reading. It is also possible to notice that in the down-market magazines (‘Dobre Rady’, ‘Naj’, ‘Pani Domu’, ‘Tina’) this type of an article is usually produced in a form of a corpus (body) made of modules, using the formula of a register. These texts are smaller in size and compositionally more simple (short sentences, usually single sentences or simple relative clauses), with regular use of a question-answer configuration, with exclamations to show emotions, and lists. The act of giving advice is generally based on direct, specific instructions, formulated in a direct style, appropriate for the ‘parenetic’ (persuasive) character of the publication. The editorial boards of magazines such as ‘Olivia’ or ‘Swiat Kobiety’ heavily emphasize the professionalism of their guidance. The authors clearly display their intent to create a more friendly relationship with their female readers, but at the same time encourage them to follow the line of argument more carefully and to think for themselves. In these texts the syntax is more complex, more varied rhetorical terms are used, and the signals of mutual dialogue are present; the factual, graphic and cognitive layer of a publication blends with its practical usage in a much better way.

Opis:
This article deals with the relationships between seniors’ lifestyles and their health and quality of life with respect to the determinants and consequences of aging. As found, considering the complex and dynamically changing set of factors determining individuals’ lifestyles the elderly “withdraw from life” too early and too far. This worrying finding brings into attention active recreation as an approach allowing people to maintain physical fitness, mental health and social activity, and thus being capable of postponing the most severe effects of aging. Before presenting the potential of active tourism as a useful instrument of active recreation, the social consequences of aging and the special character of „seniors” as a social group are discussed in terms of what enables and what restricts the use of free time. This provides a background for showing the functions of tourism as an activity having a beneficial effect not only on physical and mental health, but also on the social interaction of elderly people. Active recreation effectively compensates for losses caused by economic inactivity and withdrawal from certain social roles by building various social relations (including intergenerational) and breaking isolation, as well as by initiating a learning process based on new experiences and contacts, and developing interests and skills that strengthen the feeling of independence, self-confidence and self-esteem. Active tourism, adjusted to the needs and capabilities of elderly people, may make a measurable contribution to better quality of their lives.

Physical activity is a basic component of geriatric prevention. Lower physical activity of seniors is a cause and effect of many chronic conditions, e.g. type 2 diabetes, obesity, diseases of musculoskeletal system or cancer. This paper analyzes Polish and international literature in terms of significance of physical activity for keeping and improving health of seniors. Numerous studies carried out at large research facilities all over the world proved that taking up physical activity by seniors is one of the key factors for ensuring better health. It is, however, important to precede workout with medical examination. After that, suitable exercises, their frequency, duration and intensity need to be determined. The conclusion of this paper is as follows: regular physical activity improves effectiveness of preventive measures and treatments related to diseases such as cardiovascular disease; it also reduces mortality rate and prolongs the period of physical and mental activity of seniors.

Congenital heart defects include situations where the heart attack is present at birth. In the czech republic approximately 500 children with heart defect are born annually. The aim of the paper is to make recommendations on how to properly choose the right foods for children with heart disease. it is important to exclude industrially produced salt foods, limiting salt and fat intake. These measures can be approached very individually with respect to the child‘s age, surgery, associated dg., medication. The whole family should always be involved so that the child does not suffer, it is not our intention to psychically distract the child. it should also take into account age, sex. a mildly reducing diet if overweight or obesity is always a risk! in the case of a very young child, such as breast-fed infants, it is important for these measures to be followed by a nursing mother. Nutrition is most important not only for children with heart disease, because they may need to take care of themselves in order to prevent their condition from becoming fatal at the end, as well as prevention and healthy lifestyle.

The aim of the article is to show the way in which the technologically mediated culture of consumption determines what we call lifestyle in the perspective of the critical cultural studies paradigm. Contemporary consumption, based as it is on the counter-cultural ideas which appeal to difference, creativity and lifestyle, solves the central problem of consumerism – supplying a constant stream of novelty in a situation where things are losing just this quality. Lifestyle has become a life strategy, the framework for interpreting consumer choice suggests that freely made decisions concerning symbolic and aesthetic pleasures provide a sense of fulfilment in a successful and varied lifestyle. Culture is increasingly perceived through the prism of who we should be, and what we should have, in order to achieve by means of these an illusory goal, namely that of identity.

The issue of lifestyles in social sciences has an ample history. The beginning of the success won by the idea of a ‘lifestyle’ in sociology should be associated with Max Weber, Therstein Veblen and Georg Simmel. In modern times, especially from the perspective of empirical sociology, it is accepted that ‘lifestyle’ is connected with more or less cohesive patterns of behavior and individual values. A review done by the Institute of Opinion Study GfK Polonia in July 2002 on a group of randomly chosen 1000 people aged 15 and more revealed five basic group of Poles practicing various lifestyles. Generally 11% of Poles may be called ‘conquerors’, 35% - ‘pioneers’, and 27% - ‘traditionalists’. A further 7% is characterized by an ‘elite’ lifestyle, whereas 20% makes up a group of ‘misfits’. Individualism and being oriented towards values of self-realization, of being open to the surrounding reality and the ability to ‘manage’ is first of all characteristic of ‘conquerors’. The ‘elite’ and ‘pioneers’ distinctly try to make a synthesis of traditional life principles, expressed e.g. by the values of acceptance and duty, and the ‘new’, individualist-self-realization ones. In turn, ‘traditionalists’ completely deliberately remain with traditional life values and principles that have been tested by the previous generations. However, this is not an ‘escapist’ lifestyle, but a conscious rejection of the life principles based on individualism. It is this attitude that makes ‘traditionalists’ different from ‘misfits’ whose ‘clinging’ to tradition first of all results from the fear of an individualized society, and not from a conscious choice.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The paper proposes a methodology to study individuals and their institutions by the study of their lifestyles. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: Following Wojtyla’s methodology of studying the person on the basis of his or her actions and conduct, I decided to use similar methodology to answer the question: Are the 19th century Co‑operative Values and Principles still pertinent in the complex economy of the 21st century, and, if so, how can we operationalise them to become vibrant guidelines not only in contemporary business, but also in improving our everyday lives? THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The overview of the research on lifestyle in ethnography, marketing, lifestyle and occupational medicine, and finally criminology shows that unlike values, lifestyle can more easily be operationalized and measured. We both expose our lifestyle and are exposed to the lifestyles of others. Some status‑based lifestyles spread like viruses creating a pandemic of consumerism. These product‑based lifestyles are in complete opposition to the person‑oriented co‑operative lifestyle. RESEARCH RESULTS: An Exposure Model of Lifestyle allows new conceptualization of the isomorphism research. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The agency based model of lifestyle may be used for constructing diagnostic tools and investigating the very essence of personal motives both in private and work life. This model is supposed to help to investigate to what degree an individual’s lifestyle impacts the functioning of a participative company and whether it is reflected in the company’s success.

Opis:
The fashion for leading a healthy lifestyle has recently reached Polish society. Inspired by exposure through the mass media, many people have decided to introduce changes into the way they eat and exercise, primarily in order to become healthier and slimmer. According to recent surveys, one of the most popular sources of information concerning healthy lifestyles is, of course, the Internet. It is an extremely functional tool that allows its users not only the possibility to find the relevant information they need, but it also helps them create their own resources containing advice and information for other like-minded users. This article analyzes examples of Polish vlogs posted on the Youtube.pl platform that are principally devoted to improving fitness, as well as showing the most effective ways to lose weight. The four main areas of focus investigated are: the vloggers’ motivations for creating and publishing videos, the vloggers’ reference to their own bodies, the reasons they offer for seeking a healthier way of living, the vloggers’ bodies as their representation in the social space of the Internet, and the role of the Internet community in the many processes in helping people become slimmer.

Contemporary socio-cultural situation based on globalization make that many categories, concepts and theories required decontextualization, then recontextualization and redefinition. This process also applies to so intuitively obvious category, which is time. The specificity of the „survival” of time, perception and understanding have changed significantly influenced by current trends of modern times, such as the primacy of pleasure, the cult of success, mainstream consumerism, mass media influence. Because of these issues important and necessary it seems that re-thinking on modern understanding of time as a sociocultural category, which characterizes the quality and style of life of individuals as it exists in the current, post-modern space-time. This article provides theoretical considerations on the nature and specificity of everyday time and festive time in the context of current sociocultural based globalization processes. Assuming that the time and its fulfillment, or lifestyle are subject to the relationship of interdependence, the analysis will undergo a proposition about the consistency / heterogeneity of the individual’s life style presented in the context of the division of temporal existence of the unit on time everyday and festive time. Considerations will address today’s youth. It results from the specific lifestyle of this age group, which is due to the peculiarities of the development phase and the „soak” contemporary trends, in particular understands everyday / celebrating.

Physical activity is defined as body movement produced by muscle action that increases energy expenditure. The lifestyle of hominids/humans included physical activity. The way of life associated with hunting, gathering, and agriculture. During the Hellenic Age (336-30 B.C.), Sports were considered “physical training for health”, and agonal (competitive) gymnastics were highly regarded. For Romans, some body movements served the purpose as preparation for war and the military. Our young people live in a social and physical environment that makes it easy to be sedentary. The benefits of physical activity for children, though seemingly obvious. Physical activity can reduce anxiety, feelings of stress. A reduction in sedentary behavior can be achieved with minimal financial or time requirements. Positive experiences with physical activity at a young age help lay the basis for being regularly active throughout early and later adulthood. Recommended physical activity guidelines differ according to age group. Performance of a wide variety of physical activities is important for refining already learned motor skills. Sport participation, appropriately directed, could be involved in the development of character, work discipline, teamwork, fair play, and other socially approved characteristics.

Purpose: To analyse the frequency of chronic diseases among Romani people who are sixty and older as well as their health-promoting lifestyle. Materials and methods: This research was conducted as a descriptive study between January 2015 and June 2015. The study included 98 elderly Romani people lived in Samsun, Turkey. The study data were collected using the questionnaire included 22 questions along with the Health-promoting Lifestyle Scale II. The statistical analysis of the data was made using percentage means, t-test, correlation, and ANOVA test. Results: The average age of the participating Romani people was 66.7±5.3. Of these Romani people, 83.7% had a chronic disease, and 80.6% had a medication that they used regularly. The mean score of the Romani citizens in the study sample on the Health-promoting Lifestyle Scale was 115.98±15.82. They obtained their highest score on the inter-personal relations sub-dimension and the lowest score on the stress management sub-dimension of the scale. There was a statistical correlation between the Romani people's gender, social insurance, income level, education level, family type, body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure monitoring and their scores on the scale (p<0.05). The study found that a health-promoting lifestyle did not affect the frequency of chronic diseases (p˃0.05). Conclusions: This study proved that the Romani people had risks of chronic diseases, did not attach sufficient importance to a health-promoting lifestyle and their health-promoting lifestyle is weaker compared to the elders in the rest of the population.

The aim of the study is to determine the effects of a multidisciplinary lifestyle intervention (including a short period of physical exercise) on some health-related variables, particularly on blood pressure, in an overweight/obese adult group. The main outcome was blood pressure lowering. The study involved 378 subjects affected by obesity or type 2 diabetes. The intervention included exercise, nutrition and psychological aspects. Before and after the intervention, several anthropometrics, cardiovascular risk related measures (height, body weight, body mass index, waist circumference, body composition and WHTR index) and physical exercise measures (aerobic capacity, flexibility and dynamic muscle strength) were evaluated through fitness tests. We observed a significant reduction in: blood pressure values, body weight, BMI, waist circumference, WHTR, fat mass and an improvement of fat free mass and physical exercise measures. The C.U.R.I.A.Mo. multidisciplinary approach is effective for reducing blood pressure, after relatively few exercise sessions (three weeks), particularly in patients with hypertension. The intervention can ameliorate the health status and physical performance in the short term, in normotensive and hypertensive adult subjects with overweight/obesity.

Opis:
According to various national and international reports, the Moroccan education system still suffers from recurrent dysfunctions reflected in low student achievement. Indeed, different factors influence the scores of students including the rate of physical inactivity. The objective of this study is to evaluate the relationship between physical activity, sedentary behaviours and school outcomes. 689 students enrolled at Moroccan secondary schools, aged between 14 and 25, were randomly recruited from each grade. For each student, the overall average for the first semester was calculated and classified into three levels: high, medium and low. The school performance of girls is significantly higher (p< 0.05) than that of boys while boys are significantly more active (p<0.05) than girls. Physically active students have higher overall school mark averages than inactive students. Indeed, significant positive associations between the level of physical activity and school performance (r=0.176; p<0.001) and with physical education and sports performance were noted. In conclusion, the practice of physical activity should be encouraged among Moroccan students. It has beneficial effects on health in general and especially on the school performance of children and adolescents.

Prevalent at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the theme of the artist and art found its reflection in stories by Aleksandr Kuprin. The present article narrows down our examination of the theme solely to painters, sculptors, and representatives of the world of music, as their example allows one to observe a certain division in the artistic community. When portraying painters and sculptors, the prosaist mainly focuses on the psychology of his characters, and their motivation; he depicts the characters’ struggles with the reality around them, as well as their alienation and asceticism. However, while delineating the profiles of musicians and singers, the writer also takes notice of their appearance, which constitutes one of the aspects of self-creation in response to the then expectations, as well as of their spoilt, vain, and hedonistic lifestyle.

Introduction. A healthy lifestyle can help older people maintain their functional ability and, therefore, satisfaction with life. An important aspect of health promotion is the assessment of lifestyle factors over which patients have some control. Objective. The aim of this study was to analyze the lifestyle of the elderly in urban and rural areas using the Fantastic Life Inventory (FLI). Materials and method. The research group comprised 138 people aged 65–94 years (M = 72.41, SD = 6.90). Participants were recruited from urban 78 (56.5%) and rural 60 (43.5%) areas. The FLI used in this study has 25 closed-ended questions that explore nine domains, including physical, psychological, and social lifestyle components. Results. The overall lifestyle of most seniors was ‘excellent’ (45.7%) or ‘very good’ (41.3%); none of the respondents scored in the lowest category – ‘needs improvement’. The domains that mostly demonstrated the need for a change were related to activity, nutrition, insight, sleep, stress. Participants from rural areas tended to have lower scores in the activity (p= 0.017) and nutrition (p= 0.015) domains. The lifestyle of the elderly is determined by several factors, including age, gender, health status, level of education, and the place of residence. Conclusion. The majority of older persons demonstrated an ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’ lifestyle with healthy habits. The adoption of healthy lifestyle patterns, in particular a regular balanced diet and proper physical activity, can help prevent functional limitations among the elderly in rural areas.

Introduction. The current problem of physical inactivity in population is analysed by professionals in various age categories. One of the groups, not that often observed, are university s tudents, who should be able to present their attitude to regular physical activity as well as its contribution to healthy lifestyle. The aim of the research was to find out the structure of physical activities in university students in various study progra mmes (teacher programmes, sport programmes) and also to determine their attitude to physical activity and the reasons for (not) including physical activity in daily regimen. Methods . The research group involved students of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, Comenius University (n=53, 26 men and 27 women), Faculty of Education, University of Trnava (n=53, only women) a University of P. J. Šafárik in Košice (n=45, 30 men, 15 women). The data were collected by questionnaire with open, semi - open and c losed questions. The data were analysed by MS Excel and non - parametric Chi - square test. Results. The students with sports profile presented more positive attitude to physical activity than the other students of other study profile. On the other, hand stude nts of the teacher study profile were least satisfied with the offer of physical activities at their faculty and they would like to perform more activities in their leisure time if they had better conditions. The reasons for not performing physical activit y were also various. Students with teacher profile chose not enough time (52%), however, students with sports profile chose their health condition as the priority (37%). The reasons for including physical activity in daily regimen were in the group of teac her students supporting health and body forming, the other groups of students preferred fun and challenge. The time spent with sedentary activities was not different regarding the study profile but regarding sex. The results showed a clear difference betwe en men and women, where the most men chose 1 - 2 hours of sedentary activities every day, whereas women suggested 3 - 4 hours of sedentary activities. Conclusion. Our research data confirm the importance of analysing the reasons for performing or not performin g physical activities by university students, which could help to create an optimal model of a physical programme for various study profiles. The results suggest that the students of teacher programmes will prefer health - oriented activities with emphasizing body forming, whereas students of sports programmes will prefer activities focused on performance, challenge and experience.

Opis:
Introduction. Cancer is a complex pathological process that develops in the human body, destroying healthy cells progressively and leading to significant limitations in functioning and severe pain, sometimes persissitng even with the aid of painkillers. Cancerous diseases of the head and neck organs significantly reduce the quality of life compared to the population of healthy people. Aim. The aim of this study was to show whether smoking, alcohol and HPV are risk factors for head and neck cancer. Materials and methods. The study was conducted among 149 patients diagnosed with head and neck cancer in the Clinical Outpatient Center of Oncology Center in Gliwice with the consent of this heaktcare facility. The study used a questionnaire containing 38 questions. The study was carried out from November 2016 to January 2017. Results. The analysis of the results did not confirm that smoking, alcohol and HPV are the main risk factors for head and neck cancer. A large number of respodents did not answer the questions , which suggests patients' lack of knowledge or their denial of the harmfulness of the above-mentioned addictions. Conclusions. The majority of respondents were aware of the harmfulness of smoking and its effect on the development of cancer. However, they were not aware of the impact of drinking alcohol on the development of cancer. Most of the subjects knew what HPV is. However, the majority of respondents did not know that HPV belongs to oncogenic viruses. Smoking cigarettes differentiated their awareness of the impact of smoking on the development of cancer.
Choroba nowotworowa narządów głowy i szyi w znaczny sposób obniża jakość życia w porównaniu do populacji osób zdrowych. Cel. Materiał i metody.

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease related to the occurrence of numerous metabolic disorders. Their common feature is hyperglycaemia, caused by insufficient insulin secretion or its malfunction. The World Health Organization states that 346 million people worldwide have diabetes. The studies in adults with type 2 diabetes clearly demonstrate that the change of lifestyle behaviours effectively improves glycemic control. The modifications of lifestyle habits, such as regular physical activity and healthier dietary habits prove to be beneficial for patients. The aim of this study was to determine the factors affecting the level of physical activity in people with diabetes mellitus. Methods: Research material consisted of the data gathered from a diagnostic survey, which was conducted in a form of a questionnaire. The study included 60 people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Results: Unfortunately, the results show that not all of them were active enough, which is so crucial for stabilizing the disease. Conclusions: The diagnosis of diabetes in the respondents resulted in more time being spent by them on physical activity, which resulted in the improvement of diabetes control and the normalization of body weight according to BMI, thus increasing the effectiveness of diabetes treatment and reducing complications. The frequency of the physical activity undertaken by the respondents prior to the disease was not related to gender, however, after the diagnosis, it was dependent on gender

Opis:
Numerous studies indicate that a person's lifestyle has a positive impact on their health. However, in spite of the predominant anti-health lifestyle, the average length of life in the past few decades has increased. What is the relation between a lifestyle and life expectancy? Does the lifestyle affect human life span? Epidemiological and prospective-retrospective studies were used to evaluate a 20-year long population-based experiment, which involved in-depth studies, analyses and evaluations of three related families who resided in the same community, had the same education level, and the same period of socialization and tradition. To evaluate the collected research material, the authors used their own: Scale for evaluating nutrition habits; Criteria to assess health behaviours of subjects; Criteria for diet assessment. The studied families led a similar lifestyle, with prevalence of anti-health behaviours. Theoretically, subjects should live a similar number of years. However, the length of their lives varied. Members of families with higher number of anti-health factors lived, in fact, longer. The authors confirmed the hypothesis that the lifestyle of the examined families was an important contributor to their health, but certainly it was not the only factor to determine their life expectancy. The length of lives of the examined family members varied despite a similar lifestyle.
