Opis:
Both in the classroom as well as on the computer screen pupils can apply similar strategies of dealing with tasks (with difficult situation). For this reason multimedia programs for learning mathematics treated are as educational alternative manner of the forming amongst children abilities of solving problems. Domain of computer programs is better adapting the level of difficulty of tasks to individual possibilities of each of users. It seems that contemporary multimedia programs are effective (Kaczmarek, 2003; Watoła, 2006; Raszka, 2008). However from conducted research which are taking into account behavior of pupils while using the computer is pointing out to the uncertainty in this belief. It turns out that abilities acquired while using the multimedia program of children aren't transferring for solving problems in tasks of the paper-pencil type (Kengfeng, 2008).

Background: Prediction of software vulnerabilities is a major concern in the field of software security. Many researchers have worked to construct various software vulnerability prediction (SVP) models. The emerging machine learning domain aids in building effective SVP models. The employment of data balancing/resampling techniques and optimal hyperparameters can upgrade their performance. Previous research studies have shown the impact of hyperparameter optimization (HPO) on machine learning algorithms and data balancing techniques. Aim: The current study aims to analyze the impact of dual hyperparameter optimization on metrics-based SVP models. Method: This paper has proposed the methodology using the python framework Optuna that optimizes the hyperparameters for both machine learners and data balancing techniques. For the experimentation purpose, we have compared six combinations of five machine learners and five resampling techniques considering default parameters and optimized hyperparameters. Results: Additionally, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test with the Bonferroni correction method was implied, and observed that dual HPO performs better than HPO on learners and HPO on data balancers. Furthermore, the paper has assessed the impact of data complexity measures and concludes that HPO does not improve the performance of those datasets that exhibit high overlap. Conclusion: The experimental analysis unveils that dual HPO is 64% effective in enhancing the productivity of SVP models.

Opis:
Typically, our courses include teaching lectures, tutorials/labs, and student evaluation in interim tests and final exams. For courses in which students supposed to learn practical application of software engineering principles, such a teaching model not always yields satisfactory results: Passing an exam does not guarantee that students can transfer absorbed knowledge into their programming practice, or even use it effectively in follow up courses that require students to apply that knowledge in a new context. To counter this problem, educators often include substantial programming projects into their courses. It is authors' opinion that to get better teaching outcomes, It is important to enhance the role of projects in software engineering courses in two aspects. Firstly, lecture material should be tightly integrated and synchronized with the project work. Secondly, course evaluation should be based on evaluation of the project work, with written tests and final exams playing a complementary role. In the paper, authors motivate and explain their methodology to teach a project-oriented course based on a 15-year experience of teaching such courseat the National University of Singapore and Bialystok University of Technology.

This contribution proposes software infrastructure to support new types of learning methodologies and resources based on collaborative knowledge engineering by means of an innovative application framework called the virtualized collaborative sessions framework (VCSF). The VCSF helps meet challenging collaborative knowledge engineering requirements in online learning, such as increasing group members' learning performance during the on-line collaborative learning process. In turn, systematic application of the VCSF platform enriched with semantic knowledge engineering technologies enables e-learning developers to leverage successful collaborative learning experiences in a software reuse fashion while saving development time and effort. The framework is prototyped and successfully tested in real environments, thus showing the software reuse capability and the collaborative knowledge engineering benefits of the VCSF approach. The research reported in this paper was undertaken within the ALICE project funded through the European 7th Framework Program (FP7).

This paper reports results of an assessment of e-learning materials with the INTERFACE software evaluation methodology. On the one hand, this method of analysis allows us to identify ergonomics problems; on the other, to decide to what extent those problems and their severity concern all users in general and to what extent they depend on the usersʼ type and characteristics. This is the first publication to apply the new marking, export, and statistical features of INTERFACE used in a quantitative analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) curves instead of earlier time-based statistics and qualitative methods. It presents correlations between event-related characteristics of human–computer interaction and the currently required mental effort showed with HRV. The paper also discusses correlations between variables and cognitive-style test scores which indicate the role of individual differences in ergonomics.

Background: The use of ensemble techniques have steadily gained popularity in several software quality assurance activities. These aggregated classifiers have proven to be superior than their constituent base models. Though ensemble techniques have been widely used in key areas such as Software Defect Prediction (SDP) and Software Change Prediction (SCP), the current state-of-the-art concerning the use of these techniques needs scrutinization. Aim: The study aims to assess, evaluate and uncover possible research gaps with respect to the use of ensemble techniques in SDP and SCP. Method: This study conducts an extensive literature review of 77 primary studies on the basis of the category, application, rules of formulation, performance, and possible threats of the proposed/utilized ensemble techniques. Results: Ensemble techniques were primarily categorized on the basis of similarity, aggregation, relationship, diversity, and dependency of their base models. They were also found effective in several applications such as their use as a learning algorithm for developing SDP/SCP models and for addressing the class imbalance issue. Conclusion: The results of the review ascertain the need of more studies to propose, assess, validate, and compare various categories of ensemble techniques for diverse applications in SDP/SCP such as transfer learning and online learning.

Software cost estimation is a critical activity in the development life cycle for controlling risks and planning project schedules. Accurate estimation of the cost before the start-up of a project is essential for both the developers and the customers. Therefore, many models were proposed to address this issue, in which COCOMO II has been being widely employed in actual software projects. Good estimation models, such as COCOMO II, can avoid insufficient resources being allocated to a project. However, parameters for estimation formula in this model have not been optimized yet, and so the estimated results are not close to the actual results. In this paper, a novel technique to optimize the coefficients for COCOMO II model by using teaching-learning-based optimization (TLBO) algorithm is proposed. The performance of the model after optimizing parameters was tested on NASA software project dataset. The obtained results indicated that the improvement of parameters provided a better estimation capabilities compared to the original COCOMO II model.

Opis:
Background: Traditionally, machine learning algorithms have been simply applied for software defect prediction by considering single-view data, meaning the input data contains a single feature vector. Nevertheless, different software engineering data sources may include multiple and partially independent information, which makes the standard single-view approaches ineffective. Objective: In order to overcome the single-view limitation in the current studies, this article proposes the usage of a multi-view learning method for software defect classification problems. Method: The Multi-View k-Nearest Neighbors (MVKNN) method was used in the software engineering field. In this method, first, base classifiers are constructed to learn from each view, and then classifiers are combined to create a robust multi-view model. Results: In the experimental studies, our algorithm (MVKNN) is compared with the standard k-nearest neighbors (KNN) algorithm on 50 datasets obtained from different software bug repositories. The experimental results demonstrate that the MVKNN method outperformed KNN on most of the datasets in terms of accuracy. The average accuracy values of MVKNN are 86.59%, 88.09%, and 83.10% for the NASA MDP, Softlab, and OSSP datasets, respectively. Conclusion: The results show that using multiple views (MVKNN) can usually improve classification accuracy compared to a single-view strategy (KNN) for software defect prediction.

Since the time when first CASE (Computer-Aided Software Engineering) methods and tools were developed, little has been done in the area of automated creation of code. CASE tools support a software engineer in creation the system structure, in defining interfaces and relationships between software modules and, after the code has been written, in performing testing tasks on different levels of detail. Writing code is still the task of a skilled human, which makes the whole software development a costly and error-prone process. It seems that recent advances in AI area, particularly in deep learning methods, may considerably improve the matters. The paper presents an extensive survey of recent work and achievements in this area reported in the literature, both from the theoretical branch of research and from engineer-oriented approaches. Then, some challenges for the future work are proposed, classified into Full AI, Assisted AI and Supplementary AI research fields.

Background: The importance of Software Change Prediction (SCP) has been emphasized by several studies. Numerous prediction models in literature claim to effectively predict change-prone classes in software products. These models help software managers in optimizing resource usage and in developing good quality, easily maintainable products. Aim: There is an urgent need to compare and assess these numerous SCP models in order to evaluate their effectiveness. Moreover, one also needs to assess the advancements and pitfalls in the domain of SCP to guide researchers and practitioners. Method: In order to fulfill the above stated aims, we conduct an extensive literature review of 38 primary SCP studies from January 2000 to June 2019. Results: The review analyzes the different set of predictors, experimental settings, data analysis techniques, statistical tests and the threats involved in the studies, which develop SCP models. Conclusion: Besides, the review also provides future guidelines to researchers in the SCP domain, some of which include exploring methods for dealing with imbalanced training data, evaluation of search-based algorithms and ensemble of algorithms for SCP amongst others.
