Opis:
Environmental education in primary schools has not built sufficient awareness in formal-informal learning experience. The development of seamless learning is an alternative innovation in building students’ learning experiences. However, there is limited research on its implementation in the learning process in elementary schools with limited mobile technology. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to develop instructional design and learning planning matrices for seamless learning on teachers’ and students’ activities to facilitate formal and informal learning with limited use of mobile technology in elementary schools. Based on the instructional design and learning planning matrices developed, the context reconstruction in a seamless learning design was successfully used in guiding the teachers’ and students’ activities. The limitations of mobile technology in the schools could be replaced with the use of learning laboratories, as well as parents’ support at home. Furthermore, the instructional design and learning matrix developed were feasible, valid, and practical in application in elementary schools. Therefore, the community has a vital role to play in improving students’ learning experiences aside from schools.

The contribution enquires into possibilities of application of the heuristic methods in the teaching process, specifically its applications during the classes of mathematics in grammar school. In the frame of the research the influence was monitored of the unconventional way of solving problems during classes of mathematics in relation to the evaluation of educational advancements. Furthermore, pupils evaluated their attitude towards mathematical study including their viewpoint on problematic exercises in maths and the successfulness of solving these mathematical exercises was also evaluated. The results of the experimental group were compared to the same areas in the control group.

Opis:
Objective: The study aims to determine whether educationally active women present signs of transformative learning in their own experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic. The focus of the study is the relationship between experiencing transformative learning in a pandemic and the sense of loneliness, received social support, sense of life satisfaction and age. Methods: The study was conducted among 258 educationally active women – part-time students, as well as students of the Universities of the Third Age. Age of the surveyed women: from 19 to 87 years. Data were collected using the online test method. A statistical significance of differences was tested with the U Mann-Whitney test and the two proportion z-test. Results: Most of the surveyed women manifested elements of transformative learning in their experience of the pandemic. Those scoring high on the Transformative Learning in a Pandemic Situation scale have had their life satisfaction decrease to a greater extent than those scoring low. The group scoring high on the Transformative Learning in a Pandemic Situation scale is characterised by a higher sense of loneliness. No relationship was found between perceived manifestations of transformative learning and age, social support, place of residence and education. Discussion: The transformative potential of learning can be seen in a pandemic situation. The obtained data provide arguments supporting the supposition that the feeling of loneliness, influencing the lowering of satisfaction from life, is a factor triggering learning and leading to the change of habits of thinking and acting of educationally active women.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to show a role of the knowledgebase based on analyzes of students' activity in the individualization process of e-learning. The mentioned base enables some opinion of student's activity, intelligence and diligence. Such opinion gives possibility of course adjustment (e.g. its speed) for individual student characteristics.

Opis:
Supervised learning as a sub-discipline of machine learning enables the recognition of correlations between input variables (features) and associated outputs (classes) and the application of these to previously unknown data sets. In addition to typical areas of application such as speech and image recognition, fields of applications are also being developed in the sports and fitness sector. The purpose of this work is to implement a workflow for the automated recognition of sports exercises in the Matlab® programming environment and to carry out a comparison of different model structures. First, the acquisition of the sensor signals provided in the local network and their processing is implemented. Realised functionalities include the interpolation of lossy time series, the labelling of the activity intervals performed and, in part, the generation of sliding windows with statistical parameters. The preprocessed data are used for the training of classifiers and artificial neural networks (ANN). These are iteratively optimised in their corresponding hyper parameters for the data structure to be learned. The most reliable models are finally trained with an increased data set, validated and compared with regard to the achieved performance. In addition to the usual evaluation metrics such as F1 score and accuracy, the temporal behaviour of the assignments is also displayed graphically, allowing statements to be made about potential causes of incorrect assignments. In this context, especially the transition areas between the classes are detected as erroneous assignments as well as exercises with insufficient or clearly deviating execution. The best overall accuracy achieved with ANN and the increased dataset was 93.7 %.

Opis:
The selection of data representation and metric for a given data set is one of the most crucial problems in machine learning since it affects the results of classification and clustering methods. In this paper we investigate how to combine a various data representations and metrics into a single function which better reflects the relationships between data set elements than a single representation-metric pair. Our approach relies on optimizing a linear combination of selected distance measures with use of least square approximation. The application of our method for classification and clustering of chemical compounds seems to increase the accuracy of these methods.

Opis:
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact both on the global economy and on everyday life in all countries all over the world. In this paper, we propose several possible machine learning approaches to forecasting new confirmed COVID-19 cases, including the LASSO regression, Gradient Boosted (GB) regression trees, Support Vector Regression (SVR), and Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM) neural network. The above methods are applied in two variants: to the data prepared for the whole Poland and to the data prepared separately for each of the 16 voivodeships (NUTS 2 regions). The learning of all the models has been performed in two variants: with the 5-fold time-series cross-validation as well as with the split into the single train and test subsets. The computations in the study used official statistics from government reports from the period of April 2020 to March 2022. We propose a setup of 16 scenarios of the model selection to detect the model characterized by the best ex-post prediction accuracy. The scenarios differ from each other by the following features: the machine learning model, the method for the hyperparameters selection and the data setup. The most accurate scenario for the LASSO and SVR machine learning approaches is the single train/test dataset split with data for the whole Poland, while in case of the LSTM and GB trees it is the cross validation with data for whole Poland. Among the best scenarios for each model, the most accurate ex-post RMSE is obtained for the SVR. For the model performing best in terms of the ex-post RMSE, the interpretation of the outcome is conducted with the Shapley values. The Shapley values make it possible to present the impact of auxiliary variables in the machine learning model on the actual predicted value. The knowledge regarding factors that have the strongest impact on the number of new infections can help companies to plan their economic activity during turbulent times of pandemics. We propose to identify and compare the most important variables that affect both the train and test datasets of the model.
