In this way the accidental errors in the deviation card are reduced and the latitude error is made negligible. Moreover, an experimental application of this method is carried out on board a tanker to compare the latitude error in different positions at sea.

Degree-day values can be calculated using climatic data. Thus, seasonal, monthly, daily and hourly energy requirements for heating and cooling in buildings can be calculated. The effect of outside ambient temperature can be determined by means of the degree-day method in determining the basic temperature values in buildings. The altitude and latitude affect significantly the temperature distribution in the Earth. Thus, the latitude and altitude values are required to determine the degree hour values. This study was taken in 9 provinces located in the Southeastern Anatolia Region (SAR). The annual outdoor dry-bulb thermometer temperatures for a long period of nine provinces in the SAR were obtained to determine heating and cooling degree hour values according to the six different base temperatures. According to the suggested six different base temperature values, the cumulative long-term annual heating degree-hour (HDH) value was 50862 in total for Gaziantep province. The lowest cumulative long-term annual heating degree-hour value took place in Sanliurfa province as 39638. Also, the highest total cooling degree-hour (CDH) value took place in Sanliurfa province as 10886 degree-hour value and the lowest value took place in Sirnak province as 3909. It was determined that there was not an exact linear or monotonous relationship between HDH and CDH values and altitude, latitude and longitude values. However, although it was seen that the relationship of CDH values with the altitude was not a formal linear or monotonous relationship, it was determined that CDH values decreased linearly together with the increasing altitude values when the values were examined.

This work tackles the problem of misconception when using sophisticated mathematical tools, nonlinear optimization in this particular case, to solve a navigational problem. Namely, to reach the Great Circle vertex with two rhumb line legs ensuing the optimized distance, an initial rhumb line course equal to the orthodromic course at middle latitude may be used. The initial course is thereupon optimized by the incremental value steps. The optimized distance is achieved if the rhumb line course is altered towards the vertex at the orthodrome-loxodrome intersection point. As determination of this point cannot be formulated in a closed form, an iterative solution is to be applied. The derived transcendental equation forms a basis for an iterative solution of intersection using the Newton-Raphson method. To the contrary, finding solutions to a system of nonlinear equations can mislead a researcher unable to comprehend and grasp the mathematical meanings of the algorithm. The gist of this essay is a novel concept showing an intrinsic property i.e. orthodrome-loxodrome correlation using a well-known formula.

Opis:
The main purpose of navigation systems is a position determination different moving objects. For standard inertial navigation systems algorithm, the initial position data are required. Normally these data may be determined by astronomical techniques or satellite and radio navigation systems. However, astronomical techniques depend on climate conditions and satellite and radio systems can be disturbed by electromagnetic countermeasures. It is proposed to use an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and a navigation computer for autonomous determination of an initial position. IMU should be composed of three accelerometers, three gyroscopes and a signal processing circuit. The method proposed the latitude determination uses projections of the Earth’s rate measured by orthogonal IMU gyroscopes and projections of the gravity acceleration measured by orthogonal IMU accelerometers. Experimental tests of the IMU with a ring laser gyros triad and precision pendulum accelerometers confirmed the efficiency of the method on a fixed base. The behavior of the latitude determination under vibration is researched. The latitude determination under vibration was considered analytically by Power Spectral Density theory. It was estimated a variance of the latitude under the broad-band vibration. The method operability under harmonic and random vibration of the base at the real time is considered.

Objectives: Previous research on the association between adjustment latitude (defined as the opportunity to adjust work efforts in case of illness) and sickness absence and sickness presence has produced inconsistent results. In particular, low adjustment latitude has been identified as both a risk factor and a deterrent of sick leave. The present study uses an alternative analytical strategy with the aim of joining these results together. Material and Methods: Using a cross-sectional design, a random sample of employees covered by the Upper Austrian Sickness Fund (N = 930) was analyzed. Logistic and ordinary least square (OLS) regression models were used to examine the association between adjustment latitude and days of sickness absence, sickness presence, and an estimator for the individual sickness absence and sickness presence propensity. Results: A high level of adjustment latitude was found to be associated with a reduced number of days of sickness absence and sickness presence, but an elevated propensity for sickness absence. Conclusions: Employees with high adjustment latitude experience fewer days of health complaints associated with lower rates of sick leave and sickness presence compared to those with low adjustment latitude. In case of illness, however, high adjustment latitude is associated with a higher probability of taking sick leave rather than sickness presence.

This descriptive research focuses on the role of land surveying in the development of an architectural plan through the detailed engineering planning that leads to the construction phase. It comprises a leveling network that was established and all the points had been described completely. Parameters such as horizontal distance, horizontal angles and elevation differences between all points were measured through many closed leveling loops using theodolite (Leica Builder 300), tape measure & wheels (steel tape) and stave (leveling rod). The observations were used in a mathematical model and processed by traverse adjustment techniques. The error of closure for interior angles was checked and both latitude and departure were adjusted before applying the double meridian distance (DMD) method to obtain the required area of the land. The adjusted unknowns and observations were computed precisely to about a few millimeters accuracy. Technical descriptions of the land such as distance, bearing, boundaries, and area are necessary to visualize the shape & exact location of the land.

Work stress or job-strain and iso-strain are perceived when there is a conflict between the demands placed on a person and their resources to cope with them. They have negative effects on worker health, and organizational productivity and performance. Our study consists of evaluating work stress and its components. 102 workers of different functions (senior managers, supervisors, technicians and executing workers) volunteered and were invited to complete anonymously the Karasek questionnaire (JCQ). The analysis of the results showed a significant prevalence of iso-strain and job-strain. Thus, low decision latitude and high psychological demands are the most widespread stress factors. These results show the need to disseminate information and prevention programs against work stress to managers and staff to ensure the effective performance of a company.

Stwardnienie rozsiane (sr) jest przewlekłą chorobą demielinizacyjną układu nerwowego dotyczącą najczęściej młodych dorosłych z przewagą występowania wśród kobiet. Dokładna przyczyna sr nie jest znana. Przyjmuje się, że jest to choroba wieloczynnikowa. Rozpowszechnienie występowania sr na kuli ziemskiej jest nieregularne, uzależnione od szerokości geografiznej. Częstsze zachorowania odnotowuje się w szerokościach geografiznych o klimacie chłodnym i umiarkowanym aniżeli w strefi zwrotnikowej i podzwrotnikowej. Liczba osób z sr na całym świecie przekracza 2,5 mln, z czego około 630 000 zachorowań odnotowano w Europie. Polska znajduje się wśród krajów o wysokiej częstości występowania sr. Przyjmuje się, że zapadalność na sr w Polsce wynosi od 45 do 92 osób na 100 000 mieszkańców. Choroba rozpoczyna się zazwyczaj pomiędzy 20 a 40 rokiem życia, czyli w latach największej aktywności zawodowej, w związku z tym sr, będąc jedną z najczęstszych przyczyn długotrwałej niezdolności do pracy, stanowi znaczny problem nie tylko zdrowotny, ale również społeczny. Cel pracy: Celem pracy jest ocena częstości występowania i rozmieszczenia stwardnienia rozsianego w Polsce i na świecie. Metoda: Dokonano przeglądu piśmiennictwa krajowego i zagranicznego z lat 2008–2014. Przeszukano następujące bazy danych: PubMed, Science Direct, Termedia, Polska Bibliografi Lekarska.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic demyelinating disease of the nervous system affcting mostly young adults and predominately women. The exact cause of MS is not known. It is assumed that this is a multifactorial disease which is caused probably not by a single factor but several coexisting factors. The prevalence of MS on the globe is irregular and associated with latitude. Increased incidence is recorded in the latitudes with cool and temperate climate than in tropical and subtropical ones. Number of people with MS all over the world exceeds 2.5 million and about 630,000 cases were reported in Europe. Poland is among the countries with high incidence of MS. It is assumed that the incidence of MS in Poland ranges from 45 to 92 people per 100,000 inhabitants. The disease onset is usually between 20 and 40 years of age at the time of greatest professional activity. MS is one of the most common causes of long-term incapacity for work and therefore it is not only signifiant health, but also social problem. Aim: The aim of this study is to assess the prevalence and distribution of Multiple Sclerosis in Poland and around the world. Method: A review of domestic and foreign literature in the years 2008-2014 was conducted. The following databases were searched: PubMed, Science Direct, Termedia, Polska Bibliografi Lekarska.

Opis:
The study aims to build a model for the assessment of soil compaction processes, which take place under the influence of individual components of the skidding system such as a forwarder and a log being moved over the terrain. This aim is relevant in the context of forest preservation and ecological footprint-related issues. The model of a single log impact on the soil is based on establishing calculation formulas for determining soil compaction factors and shelterbelt size. The efficiency of the model was assessed on different soil categories and compared to experimental findings. The value of relative soil compaction within the trail boundary and the size rs of the maximum compaction area in the radial direction from the track, the width of the shelterbelt of undergrowth or cut-to-length root system were estimated based on the initial contact parameters.

Opis:
Proposals of algorithms for solving Navigation faculty’s problems regarding navigation along rhumb line (loxodrome), for officer trainees and civil students of Faculty of Navigation and Naval Weapons and for deck seamen on operational level, are presented in this paper. Proposals of calculation algorithms given in the article cover simple mathematical totting based on plane sailing (navigational) triangle and Mercator triangle (Mercator sailing). The algorithms refer to traditional methods of solving problems and they do not cover solutions applicable in automated (integrated) navigational systems. The formulas enable to solve the tasks with a use of electronic calculator and application of traditional methods on plane and sphere, and they also take the Earth’s ellipsoidal shape into consideration.

The aim of the paper was to confirm the proposition that the classical SST algorithms MCSST and NLSST originally prepared for AVHRR data could also be used for Meteosat/SEVIRI data with satisfactory accuracy in the mid-latitude region, where the spatial resolution is about 7×7 km. The research was performed in the southern Baltic Sea (between 13◦E 53◦N and 21◦E 58◦N). Data were collected in all the seasons of 2007. The coefficients were found by means of regression analysis. SSTs determined on the basis of AVHRR data were used in the regression analysis instead of in situ data. A set of paired AVHRR and SEVIRI images spaced no more than 8 minutes apart were compared. The results show that the method is capable of producing sea surface temperatures with a statistical error (standard deviation) of 1◦C.
