The article shows that archaic language is one of the components and methods of the detection of historical memory of Ukrainians. The analysis of the use of such elements in Old Ukrainian literary language of the 14-18th centuries., in Ukrainian literary language of the 19-20th centuries and in modern Ukrainian dialects has proved “Ukrainianness” of some archaic elements of the Ukrainian language, which are perceived by the language awareness of the modern Ukrainian as elements of the Russian language rather than the elements of its national identity in the diachronic dimension, as these words do exist in the modern Russian literary language, while in the New Ukrainian literary language they are replaced by other lexemes. It is shown that such archaisms in the language awareness of educated Ukrainians, including writers, acquire additional connotations and update their historical memory.

Opis:
Im Beitrag wird auf die gegenwärtige Situation des deutschen Minderheitenunterrichts in Polen eingegangen. Dabei wird die aktuelle Sachlage aus der Perspektive der dreißigjährigen Entwicklung der deutschen Minderheitensprache im polnischen Schulsystem auf der formaljuristischen, gesellschaftlichen und didaktischen Ebene ergründet. Den Schwerpunkt der Analyse bilden prinzipiell unterrichtskundliche Aspekte. Entsprechend wird eine Neudefinition der deutschen Minderheitensprache im didaktischen Bezugsrahmen und die Bearbeitung eines entsprechenden Lehrwerkes für notwendig erklärt.
Artykuł dotyczy aktualnej sytuacji nauczania języka niemieckiego jako języka mniejszości w Polsce. Obecne uwarunkowania rozpatrywane zostają z perspektywy trzydziestoletniego rozwoju nauczania tej formy języka niemieckiego w polskim systemie szkolnym na poziomie formalno-prawnym, społecznym i dydaktycznym. W centrum analizy umiejscowione zostały w szczególności aspekty edukacyjne. Konieczność redefinicji pojęcia języka niemieckiego jako języka mniejszości na poziomie dydaktycznym i opracowanie odpowiedniego podręcznika, spełniającego kryteria dydaktyczno-metodologiczne, to główne wnioski poniższej analizy.
The article deals with the current situation of German minority teaching in Poland. The current situation is explored from the perspective of the thirty-year development of the German minority language in the Polish school system on the formal legal, social and didactic level. In principle, the focus of the analysis is placed on educational aspects. Accordingly, a redefinition of the German minority language in the didactic frame of reference and the processing of a corresponding textbook are declared necessary.

Wincenty Pol i ks. Karol Antoniewicz urodzili się w tym samym – 1807 roku. Pol bardzo cenił ks. Antoniewicza i innych polskich Ormian za ich pracę dla ojczyzny, za to, że wprowadzają polski język, polskie zwyczaje i wiarę katolicką. Podobnie, jak K. Antoniewicz, W. Pol brał udział w powstaniu listopadowym, podobnie też uczestniczył w dramatycznych wydarzeniach związanych z rabacją galicyjską, czy pożarem Krakowa w 1850 roku. Obu poetów łączy umiłowanie ojczystej przyrody, piękno polskiego patriotyzmu i przekonanie, że u źródeł tożsamości narodu leży wspólnota wiary i tradycja języka. Obaj swe pierwsze utwory publikowali we Lwowie. Ich poezja służyła „ku pokrzepieniu serc”. Obaj poeci często odwołują się do tradycji modlitewnej. Ich twórczość przeniknięta jest prostotą. Franciszek Wężyk pisał o W. Polu, że jest to pełen talentu pisarz, który z pięknymi zdolnościami łączy złote serce: „Myśl jego to iskry z niebios, a dźwięk wyrazów − muzyka”. Słowa te doskonale pasują także do osoby ks. Antoniewicza, poety którego również warto przypomnieć. Obaj w głębi nocy cierpienia, dzięki swej głębokiej wierze w Bożą Opatrzność, zachowali godność i pogodę ducha.
Wincenty Pol and Fr. Karol Antoniewicz were born in the same – 1807 year. Pol admired Fr. Antoniewicz and other Polish Armenians for their work for the good of the homeland, for introducing the Polish language, Polish customs, and the Catholic faith. Just as Fr. Antoniewicz had, W. Pol participated in the November Uprising, as well as participated in the dramatic events of the Galician Slaughter of 1846 and the Kraków fire in 1850. At that time, they must have met in person, too. Both poets connected the love of their homeland’s nature with the beauty of Polish patriotism, and had the conviction that the community of faith and language were sources of the nation’s identity. Both published their first writings in Lwów. Their poetry served to invigorate hearts. Both frequently referred to the tradition of prayer. Their activity was suffused by a simplicity. Franciszek Wężyk wrote that Pol was a talented writer, who combined beautiful abilities with a gold heart: „His thoughts are as sparks from heaven, and the sound of words - music”. These words also fit beautifully to the figure of Fr. Antoniewicz, a poet who is also worth remembering. Both, thanks to their deep faith in God’s Providence, retained their dignity and serenity in the deep night of suffering.

Opis:
The object of this paper is an attempt to describe the complex identity of the Yiddish language itself and its users. Poland and the Polish language have played a signifi cant role in both these aspects. Part one is a sociolinguistic overview of the history of crystallisation of Yiddish in the historical territory of Poland as the autonomous language of the national culture of Central and Eastern European Jews. Its fate after the Holocaust of European Jews is also described here. Part two is dedicated to problems with the genetic classifi cation of Yiddish due to the language-forming processes accompanying its development. Yiddish is classifi ed among mixed languages, since it came into existence as a result of Hebrew– Slavic–Germanic language contacts. Therefore, this part pays special attention to the explanation of the mixed nature of this language system and the role of Polish as an important contact language infl uencing the fi nal shape of the contemporary Yiddish language.

This article is an effort answers for the question of regional identity pupils of secondary and high school in the Świecie. It is a report of research to verify pitch awareness dialect which is one of the determinant of regional identity. Conducted interviews and questionnaires show the picture of the “typical” Kociewianin and look for the regional question and Kociewie from the perspective of his young residents. Exploration was perform in group of people in age of 13-18.

Etablierung in der Gesellschaft, Attitüden, Vitalität der Germanismen. / Śląski lekt i jego użytkownicy. Rozpowszechnienie, postawy społeczne wobec śląszczyzny, żywotność germanizmów w lekcie śląskim (2022). It is a German-Polish monograph which comprehensively presents research on the vitality of contemporary Silesian, based on a survey of almost 2,000 people in various age groups. The analyses were conducted using a number of quantitative and statistical methods, taking into account precisely illustrated sociolinguistic aspects (such as age, education, occupation, origin, the use of Silesian and Polish in everyday life, knowledge of German and other languages, attitude towards Silesian and Polish, identity).
Artykuł Socjolingwistyczne aspekty badania żywotności lektu śląskiego jest recenzją książki G. Hentschela, J. Tambor i I. Fekete Das Schlesische und seine Sprecher. Etablierung in der Gesellschaft, Attitüden, Vitalität der Germanismen. / Śląski lekt i jego użytkownicy. Rozpowszechnienie, postawy społeczne wobec śląszczyzny, żywotność germanizmów w lekcie śląskim (2022). Jest to niemiecko-polska monografia, która w kompleksowy sposób przedstawia badania nad żywotnością współczesnej śląszczyzny. Badania ankietowe przeprowadzono wśród prawie 2000 osób w różnych grupach wiekowych. Analizy powstały za pomocą szeregu metod ilościowych i statystycznych, przy uwzględnieniu dokładnie zobrazowanych aspektów socjolingwistycznych (takich jak wiek, wykształcenie, zawód, pochodzenie, używanie mowy śląskiej i polskiej w życiu codziennym, znajomość języka niemieckiego i innych, nastawienie wobec śląszczyzny i polszczyzny, tożsamość).

Maternji jezik nije samo jezik komunikacije, već i čuvar tradicije i kulture. U njemu su sačuvane sve prethodne jezičke epohe i ukupno kulturno pamćenje jednog naroda. Tako je i školski predmet Srpski jezik važan za izgrađivanje kulturnog i nacionalnog identiteta učenika i najvažniji predmet u osnovnoškolskom obrazovanju. Neophodno je da se posebna pažnja u organizaciji, planiranju i izvođenju nastave poklanja svim onim elementima nacionalne kulture koji su ugrađeni u jezik i, posebno, u književna dela. Tek tako književnost može u potpunosti da vrši svoju obrazovnu, jezičku, estetsku u identitetsku ulogu. Zato se u ovom radu razmatraju sadržaji srpske kulture u nastavnim programima za mlađe razrede osnovne škole. Polazeći od novih programa za prva četiri razred osnovne škole tumačeni su zadaci, ishodi, uputstva i propisani sadržaji u koje su ugrađeni različiti slojevi srpske kulture. Cilj istraživanja jeste da se sagleda prisustvo, rad i stvaralačko delovanje kulture u jeziku i propisanim književnim tekstovima. Tumačena su dela koja potiču iz narodne i savremene književnosti i pripadaju različitim žanrovima (epske narodne pesme, pripovetke, savremena poezija za decu). Zaključuje se da postoje napomene, usmerenja i brojni konkretni sadržaji koji u prvom ciklusu školovanja skreću pažnju na raznolikost i bogatstvo uverenja, ideja, obrazaca ponašanja i duhovnih tvorevina koje pripadaju srpskoj (nacionalnoj) kulturi.
Mother tongue is not only the language of communication, but also the guardian of tradition and culture. It preserves all earlier linguistic periods and an overall cultural memory of a nation. For this reason, the school subject of the Serbian Language is important for building students’ national identity and it is indeed the most important school subject in primary education. In the processes of organizing, planning, and teaching, a due attention must be given to the elements of national culture that are built in the language and, specifically, in literary works. It is only in this way that literature can fully perform its linguistic, aesthetic, and identity role. This paper looks at the Serbian culture content in the early primary school curricula. Taking the new curricula for the first four grades of primary school as a starting point, the authors analyse the objectives, outcomes, instructions, and the prescribed content in which different layers of Serbian culture are incorporated. The goal of the research is to examine the representation, effects, and a creative impact of culture in the Serbian Language and the literary texts included in the compulsory reading lists. The paper analyses the works belonging to national and contemporary literature, as well as to different genres (epic national poetry, short stories, and contemporary children’s literature). Our conclusion is that the examined material contains the notes, guidelines, and many contents that in the first cycle of primary education draw attention to the diversity and richness of beliefs, ideas, behavioural patterns, and spiritual heritage of Serbian (national) culture.

Artykuł podejmuje z perspektywy językoznawczej problem przemocy językowej jako zjawiska charakterystycznego dla użytkowników gier komputerowych. Istnienie tego problemu społecznego jest dowodzone za pomocą badań o charakterze jakościowym. W celu wyodrębnienia językowych wyznaczników przemocy z wyartykułowanych podczas gry zachowań werbalnych w badaniach posłużono się analizą i interpretacją wypowiedzi interlokutorów. Wysnute wnioski pozwalają na postawienia tezy o przyczynach popularności gier cyfrowych.
The fact that linguistic violence is a phenomenon characteristic of computer game users has been observed by many researchers, mostly psychologists. They usually express their views on this subject on presumptive grounds. In this article, the author approaches the problem from the linguistic perspective. Analysis and interpretation of the statements of interlocutors is undertaken in order to extract linguistic exponents of violence from the verbal behavior during the game. The conclusions also include claims concerning the rationale behind the high popularity of digital games.

Translation as an encounter of different identities The interest in the national identity of Slavic people is related to the processes of social, political and ideological changes as well as to European integration and globalization. The question of the national identity of Slavic people concerns similarities and differences between them, influenced by the specific perception and categorization of reality. After the period of forced transnational integration and constructed linguistic and cultural national communities, the Slavic linguistic views of the world are diversified. Both for Macedonian and Polish people, language is one of the exponents of national identity. Macedonian literary texts translated into Polish enable readers to encounter different cultural phenomena, reflected in artistic visions and symbols. Their perception is quite difficult as it requires profound knowledge and intercultural competence. As examples, we will consider Polish translations of important Macedonian novels, Tvrdoglavi (Polish title: Zawzięci) by Slavko Janevski, Vremeto na kozite (Polish title: Czasy kóz) by Luan Starova, Razgovor so Spinoza: roman‑pajažina by Goce Smilevski (Polish title: Rozmowa ze Spinozą: powieść–pajęczyna) and Skriena kamera (Polish title: Ukryta kamera) by Lidija Dimkovska.

The objective of this text consists in presenting how it is necessary for contemporary translators and interpreters (both literary and specialised) to acquire and develop the ability to recognize elements of identity discourse in translated texts. Nowadays, the need for inter-cultural exchange is inevitably connected with the necessity of establishing harmonious co-existence for numerous cultures and identities. Therefore, it is crucial to educate translators in a way that enables them to pay special attention to identity and cultural perturbations present in translated texts (culture and language hybridisation, multiple identity, cultural dislocation, presence in linguistic and political discourse of minority cultures), regardless of their genre or form. Such a strong emphasis on identity problems in the translation is especially relevant in the European context, where the attention of researchers and politicians directed at identity problems stemming from ethnical and cultural issues sets the framework for a new cultural paradigm that determines the future development of the EU. Becoming acquainted with this paradigm which emphasises fluency, identity unmarkedness and the new model of European collectivity is indispensable for a translator aspiring to become a true cultural mediator.

Opis:
Valiancina Aksak’s gentle yet mysteriously strong lyrics cover a wide range of topics including the Church and Christian belief, Belarusian identity, and indignation at the betrayal of national values, wine, music, flowers and the language itself, which she handles with a very individual mastery. Much of her verse is subtle and understated, although she is also capable of very clear descriptions of people and places and the various qualities and effects of wine. A highly musical poet, she also makes several references to classical music, and her verses about family, both children and parents are very touching indeed. She is a poet whose work deserves to be better known.
Subtelne, ale jednocześnie tajemnicze i ekspresywne teksty Valianciny Aksak obejmują szeroki zakres tematów, w tym aspekty chrześcijańskie (Kościół i wiara), kwestie związane z tożsamością białoruską, gorzkie refleksje dotyczące zdrady wartości narodowych, wino, muzyka, kwiaty, a także sam język, którym poetka operuje z właściwym sobie mistrzostwem . Wiersze Aksak są finezyjne i refleksyjne, jak również realistyczne: poetka opisuje w nich ludzi i miejsca, a także ulubiony trunek: wino. Poezja Aksak często opiera się na efektach muzycznych, odwołuje się do muzyki klasycznej. Jej twórczość, zwłaszcza poświęcona rodzinie (zarówno dzieciom, jak i rodzicom) jest bardzo wzruszająca. Jest poetką, której twórczość zasługuje na lepsze poznanie.
Далікатныя, але адначасова таямнічыя і экспрэсіўныя тэксты Валянціны Аксак ахопліваюць шырокі тэматычны спектр: Царква і хрысціянская вера, беларуская ідэнтычнасць і абурэнне здрадай нацыянальным каштоўнасцям, віно, музыка, кветкі, і нарэшце сама мова, якой паэтка валодае па-майстэрску. Вершы Аксак рафінаваныя і вытанчаныя, хаця ў той жа час рэалістычныя: яна здольная вельмі дакладна апісваць людзей і месцы, а таксама розныя якасці і гатункі віна. Паэзія Аксак часта насычана музычнымі эфектамі, сустракаюцца і непасрэдныя алюзіі да класічннай музыкі. Вельмі кранальныя яе вершы пра сям'ю, пра ўзаемаадносіны дзяцей і бацькоў. Творчасць гэтай паэткі бясспрэчна заслугоўвае большай вядомасці.

Opis:
The article presents the analysis of two speeches given by Rory O’Neill, also known as Panti Bliss, who is so far the most recognisable Irish drag queen. Apart from being a drag queen, Rory O’Neill is also a political activist whose performances were part of the campaign before the referendum concerning the 34th Amendment to the Constitution of Ireland. In the analysis both these aspects of the speaker’s identity are taken into consideration. Although the analysis is mostly linguistic, it also considers extralinguistic aspects of communication, e.g. the performer’s appearance on stage, as contextual elements are essential in sociolinguistic contexts. Thus, the analysis draws from the theoretical background focused on political discourse and the language used by drag queens to a detailed account of the two speeches in order discuss them in relation to the standards of both a drag performance and a political speech.

Opis:
The article refers to the process of the revitalization of identity of a minority group on the borderland. The subject of these identity transformations is the population defined today as Ukrainian minority in Podlaskie Voivodeship, or as they call themselves “Ukrainians of Podlasie”. A coherent and explicit group, based on such cultural elements as: language in the form of archaic dialect, autochthonousness, local folk culture and customs and the orthodox religion. Over the past decades, this population has been a subject of enormous and significant consciousness-identity changes, which most often were the result of geopolitical changes the region. It should be emphasized that the process of the revitalization of this minority group in the Podlaskie Voivodeship has not yet been completed. There is also visible, gradual change in the approach to the key elements of culture that have historically decided about the rebirth of this minority. What is indigenous, traditional and local is more and more often transformed and changed by more unified, codified and universal cultural elements. Language in the form of a local, archaic dialect is replaced in the young generation by a literary language, and in cultural expressions, dances and songs local traditions are being replaced by patterns drawn directly from Ukrainian culture. The Ukrainian minority in Podlaskie Voivodeship shows very well how and on what factors, events, and in what direction can both the national image of a given region and the ethnic and national identity of ethnic and national groups change. The article was based on two own researches, historical studies conducted by historians and linguists on the area of today’s Podlaskie Voivodeship and the press and cultural events implemented by the Ukrainian minority in the Podlaskie Voivodeship.

The article presents the problem of teaching Polish language to deaf people and considers two aspects – glottodidactics and identity of deaf. The authors point at the several problems that are met by a teacher who teaches Polish to deaf students. The problems are as following: low status of the Polish language among deaf students, the lack of positive motivation to learn Polish by these students, however they are strongly motivated to learn English that is also a foreign language to them. To improve this situation there should be made not only a change in the teaching process to teach Polish as a foreign language to deaf students, but also teachers should be aware of the fact that deaf students need to be considered as a bilingual and bicultural person. The awareness should improve not only among teachers and hearing people, but also among deaf.
