Opis:
The experimental investigations for determination of heat of pyrolysis have given quite different results due to the influence of the experimental conditions on the measured heat of pyrolysis of biomass. Consequently, a theoretical investigation into the process is required. Therefore, this paper presents analytical model for the determination of heat of biomass pyrolysis and particle residence time under isothermal and non-isothermal heating conditions. The developed analytical solutions are used to investigate the effects of heating conditions on the heat of biomass pyrolysis and particle residence time. From study, it is established that the heat of the pyrolysis first showed endothermic peaks and followed by exothermic peaks at different temperatures for the different heating rates. Also, as the heating rate increases, the particle residence time in the reactor decreases and high heating rates favoured the production of tar and gas. The length of heating and its intensity affect the rate, extent and sequence of pyrolysis reactions, and composition of the resultant products.

Opis:
For the reliable applications of silver nanowires, AgNW, which is used as a conductive transparent film in electronic devices, the isothermal degradation behaviors of AgNW films with and without overcoating were investigated. Accelerated isothermal degradation was performed as a function of temperature, time, and atmosphere. Electrical resistance and optical transmittance were measured and correlated with the microstructural damages, such as formation of oxide particles and fragmentations of AgNW, which were quantitatively determined from the scanning electron micrographs. The overcoating retarded the formation of oxide particles and subsequent fragmentations as well as resulting degradation in electrical resistance without affecting the optical transmittance.

Opis:
This paper presents the calculation results of heat amount increase being typical for isothermal and cooling bodies where body plating has been broken causing the open way for water penetration into the insulating material and thus deteriorating the insulating properties of the damaged body fragment. During the service of the isothermal and cooling bodies the damages of their different fragments take place. A typical damage is abrasion of the side walls, damage to the joints of walls and walls with the roof and damage to the door edges. Using the thermovision camera and the algorithm described in [1], heat loss can be calculated for a fragment of the body that includes damage - an operational heat bridge that generates a variable heat flux being difficult or even impossible to be measured with heat flux density sensors. On the example of typical damages occurring in the serviced refrigerated body, they have calculated the amount of additional heat which may lead to the disqualification of the refrigeration body from refrigerated transport of sensitive goods, such as food and medical goods, bringing losses to transport companies.

Opis:
In this paper, two-dimensional heat transfer solution of natural convection around an isothermal cylinder located beneath an insulation wall is studied. The effects of distance ratio of the cylinder to the wall as well as the impact of the dimensionless Rayleigh number in the flow and heat transfer are taken into account. Solving the flow equations for L/D ratio with values 0.5, 0.7, and 1.5 and the Rayleigh number ranging from 1000 to 40000 is carried out. The results are compared with the experimental data which present a good agreement. The results indicate that the effect of weakened natural convection flow in the cylinder commences when decreasing L/D ratio from the value 1.5 to 0.5 leading to a decline in heat transfer and the Nusselt number. This process occurs in all values of the Rayleigh number. For the ratio number greater than 1.5, the impact of adiabatic wall is neglected, and there is no significant influence on the natural convection flow. Increasing the angle from 0◦to180◦results in a fall in the Nusselt number which is as a consequence of growth in the distances of isothermal lines.

Opis:
Production processes of hot forging most often look similar [1-3]. Forging in several operations, usually in three or four. Most often the first operation is upsetting or flattening (sometimes rolling). The last operation is finishing forging. This applies to the production of steel forgings for the automotive, agricultural and other similar industries. Typical production proceeds as follows: the forgings are cleaned (shot-blasted) and then heat treatment is performed. It can be normalization, hardening and tempering, etc. After the heat treatment, forgings are checked and subjected to strength and microscopic tests, hardness tests, impact tests. The type of tests depends on the recipient. The process described in the work takes place in three operations. The heat treatment used so far is hardening and tempering. An attempt was made to change the heat treatment technology for a selected product made of 42CrMo4 steel (1.7225) (4140). An isothermal annealing test was carried out at different temperatures and for different times. The possibility of using heat from the forging process in heat treatment processes for the described product has been confirmed.

Opis:
The thermal behaviour of energetic materials is very important for their safe production, storage, handling and even demilitarization. In this work, the thermal behaviour and decomposition kinetics of conventional C4 plastic explosive has been studied experimentally by a non-isothermal thermogravimetric (TG)/differential thermal analysis (DTA) technique at different heating rates (2, 4, 6 and 8 °C·min-1). The kinetic triplet of activation energy, frequency factor and model of thermal decomposition of this compound has been evaluated via model-fitting and model-free methods. The results show a single thermal decomposition process for C4, with the model of integral function (g(α)) of [(1−α)-1/3 −1]2 and differential function (f(α)) of [(1−α)2/3(3α−3)/2(1−α)1/3−2], indicating a 3-dimensional diffusion mechanism. In addition, Ea values of 207.1 ± 17.3, and 241 kJ·mol-1, by using the isoconversional model-free modified Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS) and the Kissinger method, respectively, were obtained for the conversion interval of 0.3-0.7. The C4 matrix shows a significant effect on the activation energy distribution of pure RDX.

The aim of this work was to investigate the influence of isothermal annealing on the amorphous structure stability of the Zr48 Cu36 Al8 Ag8 alloy. A series of continuous heating examinations was performed on the differential scanning calorimeter in order to determine the temperature limits for isothermal annealing series where the time to crystallization was measured. The obtained results were calculated and a time-temperature-transformation diagram was created and discussed. Static compression test as well as microhardness measurements of the as-quenched samples gave a mechanical properties results supplement. The measured properties (σc = 1800 MPa and 614 HV0.05) are comparable to the literature results for this alloy. Fractographic observations with the scanning electron microscope were also performed in order to prove some plasticity observed during the strength tests.

Contemporary transport of perishable food and other cargoes sensitive for temperature changes is carried out basing on specialist isothermal and cooling bodies. The reason of the deterioration of the body insulation condition is the penetration of water into the heat/cold protecting material and the further destruction of the insulation properties by moisture which in the insulating material is subject to cyclic freezing and defrosting processes depending on the temperature of the transported goods. The paper presents the test results on the destruction of the insulating material under the influence of cyclic freezing and defrosting of water introduced into the insulating material. The effects of servicing the damp insulating material were examined depending on the quantity of cycles of freezing and defrosting getting much worse deterioration of insulating properties than in case of entering water into the dry insulating material.

The combined influence of silicon content and oxygen concentration on silicon-containing steels was investigated, via a heating route similar to that applied in the industrial reheating process, using a Simultaneous Thermal Analyzer (STA). Four different oxygen concentrations and three different isothermal holding times were designed. The results show that the effect of silicon on the mass gain depends on the oxygen concentration and the oxidation time. The mass gain of low-silicon steel is greater than that of high-silicon steel at 1260°C in the oxygen concentrations of 1.0 vol.% and 2.0 vol.%, even when the isothermal holding time is 90 minutes. However, there is a critical time point for mass gain in oxygen concentrations ≥3.0 vol.%. The mass gain of lowsilicon steel is greater before and smaller after this critical point. The critical time is deferred with decreasing oxygen concentration.

Ludwigite is the main available boron-bearing resource in China. In order to enrich the theory system and optimize its utilization processes, this paper study the mechanism and kinetics on non-isothermal decomposition of ludwigite in inert atmosphere by means of thermal analysis. Results show that, the decomposition of serpentine and szajbelyite is the main cause of mass loss in the process. At the end of decomposition, hortonolite and ludwigite are the two main phases in the sample. The average E value of structural water decomposition is 277.97 kJ/mol based on FWO method (277.17 kJ/mol based on KAS method). The results is proved to be accurate and reliable. The mechanism model function of structural water decomposition is confirmed by Satava method and Popescu method. The form of the most probable model function is G(α) = (1 – α)–1– 1 (integral form) and f (α) = (1 – α)2 (differential form), and its mechanism is chemical reaction. This is verified by the criterion based on activation energy of model-free kinetics analysis.

Batch experiments were carried out to determine the influence of pH and Mn(II) concentration on the sorption process. A maximum removal efficiency (98.9%) was observed for modified zeolite with the concentration of 10 mg/dm3 of manganese in solution. The equilibrium data showed a very good correlation for both Langmuir and Freundlich sorption models and this suggests both monolayer adsorption and a heterogeneous surface existence. Maximum sorption capacity calculated from the Langmuir model constituted 5.57 mg/g for natural zeolite and 13.41 mg/g for modified zeolite.
