    Opis:
    The spatial structure of the world economy is divided into countries of economic center, semi-periphery and periphery. Changes of the spatial structure of the world economy and globalization trends are marked. A key element of the growing of globalization process is foreign direct investment(FDI) and activities of transnational corporations. Declining trend in foreign direct investment is marked in conditions of instability of world economic development, shifts in FDI regional structure and their impact on countries with developing market economies. On the basis of the regional monitoring of the foreign direct investment the CIS market is described, in particular of the countries of the Customs Union and Belarus. The volumes of the Belarusian direct investment abroad are outlined, the forms of presence in foreign markets are indicated, the development of the commodity distribution networks, created by Belarusian enterprises and geography of inflow and outflow of FDI, is analyzed. The directions of improving the investment climate in Belarus and improve its position in the world rankings are marked.

    Opis:
    The paper offers a comprehensive analysis of direct investments made by Polish companies abroad. Such investments have intensified in recent years, especially since Poland joined the European Union on May 1, 2004. Foreign expansion is an important part of the development strategies of many Polish companies today. The empirical research described in the paper identifies the factors that determine direct investment by Polish companies abroad, with a special focus on barriers to such projects. The studies in question were carried out at the Foreign Trade Research Institute (IKiCHZ) in 2006 and involved two groups of businesses: those that have already invested abroad in recent years, and those that may carry out such projects in the future. The latter group comprises potential investors who stand out in the corporate sector because of their market position, financial condition and the fact that exports account for a large part of their sales. The analysis involved the following aspects of direct investment abroad: an evaluation of the financial condition of investors and their prospects for the coming years; the possible determinants and barriers to investment on foreign markets; investment plans; the financial, organizational and legal conditions involved; feasibility studies; and the expected benefits and forms of public assistance to Polish companies investing abroad. The empirical studies discussed by the authors reveal that Polish entrepreneurs are interested in direct investment abroad and see it as an opportunity for the further development of their companies. The research shows that Polish investors on foreign markets primarily include large companies that export their products and are doing well financially. Poland’s EU accession has had a positive influence on Polish companies’ direct investment abroad. Still, the authors conclude that direct investment by Polish companies on foreign markets is still in its infancy. This is confirmed by the scope and forms of these projects as well as by the considerable caution displayed by the analyzed businesses in undertaking such operations.

    The paper examines the conditions that determine the internationalization of Poland’s retail companies and other businesses, and it also evaluates the scope and forms of this process. The author analyzes these issues on the basis of desk research, or studies that collate the findings of previously published data and evaluate them in new ways. Another method used by the author is direct research involving a selected group of major enterprises that either already operate on foreign markets or plan to expand abroad. The analysis made it possible to identify the most important motives behind the internationalization of business operations as well as the directions of expansion in terms of both geographical regions and individual business sectors. Maleszyk also describes the organizational forms of internationalization (such as foreign direct investment and various forms of cooperation and integration) as well as barriers to decision-making on business expansion and development. The analysis reveals that the process of internationalization applies to a limited group of companies and is at an early stage of development. To accelerate internationalization, it is necessary to strengthen the market position of Polish enterprises and more intensely promote Polish brand-name products abroad. Other priorities include expanding the system for providing investment advice and supporting institutions that promote entrepreneurship, as well as facilitate lending from banks.

    Opis:
    The purpose of the paper is to present the evolution of transnational corporations and their influence on the process of globalisation. The primary thesis of the paper is that the corporations are prime movers and main recipients of the process of globalisation. The paper is divided into three parts. In the first part various definitions of transnational corporations are included, as well as the genesis and the evolution of the transnational corporations. In the second part contemporary development trends, the world’s biggest public companies with their industry and the state of origin are discussed. Based on the subject literature and the source data, it is concluded that the new development phase of the transnational corporations began - the domination of enterprises from China and United States. In the final part positive and negative aspects of the referred process are elaborated. On one hand companies invest in research, development and create modern technology. On the other hand, they interfere in social and political life. Also, issues such as polarisation of profitable, exploitation of minors, neo-colonialism, abuse of a dominant position, locating production in developing countries and exploitation of employees were discussed by the author. The article ends with a projection – an apocalyptic vision of the world dominated by the negative aspects of activities of the transnational corporations.
    Artykuł ma na celu przedstawienie procesu ewolucji korporacji transnarodowych, ich szerokiego wpływu na proces globalizacji oraz związanych z tym następstw. Tezą opracowania jest stwierdzenie, że korporacje stanowią zarówno siły sprawcze, jak i głównego beneficjenta procesu globalizacji. Artykuł podzielono na trzy części. W pierwszej przedstawiono różne ujęcia definicyjne korporacji transnarodowych, genezę i proces ewolucji tych podmiotów. W części drugiej scharakteryzowano współczesne tendencje rozwojowe oraz przedstawiono największe firmy na świecie wraz z ich kategorią działania oraz państwem pochodzenia. W oparciu o literaturę przedmiotu i dane źródłowe stwierdzono, iż obecnie nastała nowa faza rozwoju – okres dominacji chińsko-amerykańskiej. W ostatniej części przedstawiono zarówno pozytywne, jak i negatywne aspekty opisywanych procesów. Tutaj wskazano na wkład przedsiębiorstw w rozwój badań i nowoczesnych technologii, ale również na ingerencję w życie społeczno-polityczne. Poruszono takie kwestie jak: polaryzacja dochodowa, nadużywanie pozycji dominującej, wyzysk siły roboczej czy celowe lokalizowanie produkcji w państwach ubogich. Artykuł zakończono prognozą – apokaliptyczną wizją świata związaną z utrzymaniem przedstawionych trendów.

    Ekspansja zagraniczna firm chińskich wspomagana przez sprzyjającą politykę władz państwowych ChRL jest fenomenem relatywnie nowym i wciąż w większości krajów rozwiniętych raczej marginalnym. Jednak jej dynamika i potencjał są ogromne. I to właśnie ta perspektywa wzbudza wiele niepokojących pytań o efekty owej ekspansji na płaszczyźnie ekonomicznej, jak i politycznej. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie skali zagadnienia i jego istotności, a także próba określenia specyficznych cech ekspansji kapitału chińskiego na terytorium Unii Europejskiej w kategoriach ekonomicznych. Jako najważniejsze wyzwania związane z tym zjawiskiem uważa się zakłócenie reguł konkurencji wolnorynkowej oraz ryzyko transferu strategicznych aktywów do Chin kosztem przejmowanych firm w Europie. Przejściowo problematyczne mogą być też wysokie ryzyko niepowodzeń przedsięwzięć chińskich w Europie (wynikające z braku doświadczenia działalności w tak odmiennym otoczeniu) i odmienność kultury korporacyjnej oraz praktyk biznesowych (co generuje konflikty z pracownikami i otoczeniem zewnętrznym).
    Foreign expansion by Chinese companies supported by favourable government policy of the People's Republic of China is a relatively new phenomenon and still of marginal importance in industrialized countries of the Western world. However, its dynamics and potential are impressive. And it is precisely this medium-term perspective of the phenomenon that raises a few uneasy questions about the economic and political results of the Chinese business expansion. That is why the goal of this paper is to present, using economic terms, the scale and the importance of the phenomenon, as well as to try to determine several specific features of the Chinese business expansion in the European Union. The main challenges resulting from the increasing Chinese presence in Europe are disturbances in the free market competition and the risk of strategic asset transfers to China at the expense of acquired companies in Europe. In the short term, problems may arise due to the high risk of failure of Chinese activities in Europe (resulting from the lack of relevant experience in such a different environment), and due to numerous differences in business culture and practices generating conflicts with employees and external partners.

    W artykule przedstawiono aktualne tendencje w kształtowaniu się bezpośrednich inwestycji zagranicznych (BIZ), traktowanych jako najbardziej zaawansowana forma internacjonalizacji przedsiębiorstwa, tj. wymagająca największego zaangażowania zasobów i umiejętności w zmiennym oraz złożonym otoczeniu międzynarodowym. Na podstawie źródeł informacji publikowanych przez Konferencję Narodów Zjednoczonych ds. Handlu i Rozwoju (UNCTAD) przeanalizowano wielkość, dynamikę i strukturę przepływów BIZ w gospodarce światowej. Wzrost znaczenia krajów rozwijających się i przedsiębiorstw z nich pochodzących w globalnych przepływach BIZ powoduje, że zmienia się tradycyjne postrzeganie BIZ jako formy międzynarodowych przepływów kapitałowych, które są dokonywane przede wszystkim w grupie krajów rozwiniętych.
    The article presents the current trends in the development of the foreign direct investment (FDI), treated as the most advanced form of internationalization of the company, i.e. requiring the greatest commitment of resources and skills in a changing and complex international environment. On the basis of sources of information published by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the size, dynamics and structure of international flows of direct investment were analysed. Companies established in developing countries and such countries themselves are becoming more and more important in global FDI flows, which causes changes to the traditional perception of FDI as a form of international capital flows, which are made primarily in the group of developed countries.
