Opis:
Newton’s Rings experiment is traditionally utilized to find radius curvature of a lens. We propose a method in which this same set up can be used to find the thickness of thin films. The working principle is interference. It is based on the fact that, the formation of bright and dark interference fringes is a measure of the thickness of the air film at that point. We present the experimental data. The results from the experiment are in agreement with results obtained through geometry. Further, a method to improvise conventional interference at air wedge experiment which is generally used to determine the thickness of thin films is suggested.

Opis:
The paper describes the phenomenon of the occurrence of aerodynamic interference between a helicopter and an object in its near vicinity. Such situations occur during rescue missions as well as during police and military operations when the helicopter flies near such objects as buildings and ships. The specific shape of the example object, a typical town courtyard, is discussed below. The influence of the interference on the rotor and fuselage loading, air flow and flying qualities was analyzed for these special cases of helicopter operations. The results of the computations performed using the FLUENT software in terms of the dynamic response to disturbances on the simulation model of a helicopter rotor have been presented. The model used in these calculations made it possible to analyze flexible rotor blades. The results of the experimental tests of interference between the helicopter model and different shapes have been attached, as well.

Opis:
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) operate in an overcrowded electromagnetic environment, as the spectrum is shared by various wireless communication technologies. This gives rise to various challenges related to optimized and efficient spectrum utilization. Cognitive radio (CR) has emerged as a solution satisfying this requirement, as it is capable of adapting to the dynamic radio spectrum. Thanks to the deployment of cognitive radio in WSNs, the spectrum may be utilized in a more efficient manner. CR may identify the vacant channels dynamically, allowing the sensor nodes to effeectively communicate with each other. In this paper a clustering algorithm known as improved cluster-based channel assignment (ICBCA) is implemented, forming clusters of CR sensor nodes and then selecting vacant channels for data transmission purposes. Simulation results show that ICBCA outperforms existing clustering algorithms in CR sensor networks.

One of the main fields of studies within the framework of second language teaching methodology is an analysis of linguistic errors which constitute characteristic phenomenon of different stages throughout the teaching process. Although an error is a systematic deviation from the linguistic norm, it also seems to be an essential step in the second language acquisition. The main aim of this article is to present and analyse the most frequent errors occurring in essays written by Polish students. The analysis concentrates on morphosyntacic errors, since morphosyntax can be considered an area in which the greatest difficulties are to be noticed. The author describes and analyses errors in two problematic areas, namely in the use of articles and past tenses.

This article presents an analysis of the Galileo E1 signal and its sensitivity to different types of interference. The research involved modeling white noise, chaotic impulse interference, and narrowband interference and the effects of these interfering signals on the E1 signal. Based on the available information, spectral structures were created for the mentioned types of interference, and subsequently, these interferences were integrated into the E1 signal in the Matlab program environment. A Kallman filter was used to filter out white noise from the additive mixture of the E1 signal and white noise. The research aimed to analyze the influence of white noise, chaotic impulse interference, and narrowband interference on the spectral power density of the E1 signal. The results of this work can be used in the design of robust receivers and signal structures capable of withstanding these types of interference.

Opis:
Local multipoint distribution systems (LMDS) operating above 10 GHz have a large bandwidth (2-3 GHz) but a very limited range. These systems can provide coverage to a few kilometers only. These systems can provide coverage to a few kilometers only. The size of the macro cells illuminated by the base stations, where line of sight (LOS) exists, is 1 to 6 km. To provide coverage to customers where LOS is not possible, repeaters or passive reflectors may be used. In this paper we present first results of reflection measurements at 42 GHz, and based on that, simple multipath studies, taking into account the beamwidth of the antennas of both, transmitter and receiver. Secondly, LOS cochannel and adjacent channel interference are assessed for cellular LMDS networks. As suggested in the CRABS report, the maximal spectral efficiency can be obtained with a dual frequency and polarization reuse plan. This frequency and polarization reuse leads to interference. In this paper we have first calculated the cochannel interference (CCI) and the adjacent channel interference (ACI) due to the frequency/polarization reuse schemes suggested in the CRABS report. The effects of the variation of the half power beam width (HPBW) of the receiver, the time precentage parameter p, and the cell radius on C/I are also reported. In the latter part of the paper we propose a simple interference reduction technique based on re-orientation of the receiver antennas. We have also explored the possibility of using trellis coded modulation (TCM) for reducing interference levels. Initial results have been found to be quite encouraging.

Opis:
Home broadband access is continuously demanding more bandwidth fueled by video streaming, entertainment and gaming applications. In 2010, a company INEA decided to roll-out new WiMAX-based services aimed to meet the needs of home users across theWielkopolska region of western Poland. It was decided to follow the 802.16e standard and the Time Division Duplexing (TDD) mode that oer the ability to adjust the downlink/uplink ratio and thus are well suited for data transmission. After an extensive testing period of equipment from various vendors, engineers at INEA have chosen the Motorola (currently Cambium Networks) PMP320 solution because it is compact and its components are space- and energy-ecient. The company choice was also influenced by its simple operation, management and installation, which ensured low costs of ownership. So far, this deployment has provided fast and aordable connectivity for Internet and telephony services to around 5,500 households across the 30,000 sq. km region. After 3 years of experience, INEA would like to share the lessons learned from this roll-out.

Opis:
Wideband CDMA method has been recently investigated for its using in the future communication systems. Such systems capacity depends on many factors, the main is multi-access interference (MAI). MAI is an inherent CDMA property connected to correlation characteristics of codes used to access and to spreading. The influence on CDMA performance of these codes families and parameters is presented in this paper. The standard Gaussian approximation has been used for interference analysis. Bit error rate (BER) on detector output is a measure of interference influence on transmission quality. It can be used for SNR(i) evaluation on receiver input for channel assignment and handover procedures. The results of interference analysis for the pseudo-noise sequences (M-sequences, Gold, de'Bruin and Jennings) as well as for the Walsh orthogonal mapping are presented in this paper.

The paper concerns the polarization effects in gradient index MMI sensor structures made by ion K+–Na+ exchange. It has been shown both experimentally and based on the numerical calculation that for the K+–Na+ ion exchanged MMI structures, propagation conditions of light in multimode section vary considerably for each polarization. There are presented the possibilities of using this effect in application to gas sensing. Analyzed sensor structures are covered by WO3 absorbing nanolayers. Numerical analyses of MMI sensor are performed and modal attenuation coefficients are determined. The comparison between operation characteristics obtained for the TE and TM polarization is presented.

Opis:
In the paper, numerical studies of the model of an optical sensor, based on interference of modes in a planar one-dimensional step-index configuration, are presented. Calculations are performed using the method of mode field analysis. The structure consists of the single-mode input waveguide, the multimode waveguide that guides only a few modes and the single-mode output waveguide. The structure is covered by a nanometer active sensor layer of a high refractive index, which changes its optical properties in contact with the measured external surrounding. The refractive index variation of an active sensor layer affects the modal properties of the multimode waveguide and the output optical field distribution. By the proper selection of the active layer, the considered configuration can be used for gas detection.
