The article is a formatted for publication record of a speech delivered during the World Congress of Foreign Languages together with the annual PTN Conference entitled “Language education in the era of global changes - the need for cooperation and new perspectives”, which took place on June 27−29, 2022 in Warsaw under the patronage of the International Federation of Foreign Language Teachers (FIPLV), the Polish Society of Modern Languages (PTN) and the Faculty of Modern Languages of the University of Warsaw. In it, the author draws attention to the problem of underestimating the potential of students in terms of learning autonomy as well as social attitudes and behaviors, which occurs especially in the general education system. This is related to the bureaucratization of the teacher’s work and the misinterpreted philosophy of teaching, deeply rooted in Polish schools, once proposed by Johann F. Herbart (1776−1841), a German philosopher, psychologist and pedagogue, considered to be the founder of the traditional school (cf. Kupisiewicz 1996: 36–40). An equally important factor hindering the development of relations between the teacher and students is the maladjustment of the school space to “new” methods of education, although these have long been verified in experimental education, and have also gained recognition in scientific circles. The axis of reflection is the phenomenon of interaction initiated in the glottodidactic system: between learners and a foreign language teacher (cf. Woźniewicz 1987: 88). The main goal was to recall the key theses of paedocentric pedagogy (cf. Dobrołowicz 2005: 8–10) and to define on this basis such an educational environment in which, in the conditions of the Polish school, it will be possible to include students in the process of managing the class. This is to serve to extend the goals of teaching a foreign language, which today cannot be limited to strictly language knowledge and competence.
Bei diesem Artikel handelt es sich um eine zur Veröffentlichung formatierte Abschrift eines Vortrags, der auf dem Weltkongress für Fremdsprachen und der Jahreskonferenz des PTN mit dem Titel „Language education in times of global change − the need for collaboration and new perspectives“ gehalten wurde. Der Kongress fand vom 27. bis 29. Juni 2022 in Warschau statt und stand unter der Schirmherrschaft der Internationalen Föderation der Fremdsprachenlehrer (FIPLV), der Polnischen Gesellschaft für Neophilologie (PTN) und der Fakultät für Neophilologie der Universität Warschau. In ihrem Artikel weist die Autorin auf das Problem der Unterschätzung des Potenzials von Schülerinnen und Schülern in Bezug auf ihre Lernautonomie und ihre sozialen Einstellungen und Verhaltensweisen hin, was insbesondere im allgemeinen Bildungssystem zu beobachten ist. Sie verbindet dies mit der Bürokratisierung der Lehrerarbeit und der fehlinterpretierten Unterrichtsphilosophie von Johann F. Herbart (1776–1841), einem deutschen Philosophen, Psychologen und Pädagogen, der als Begründer der traditionellen Schule gilt und in den polnischen Schulen fest verankert ist (vgl. Kupisiewicz 1996: 36–40). Ein ebenso wichtiger Faktor, der die Entwicklung der Lehrer-Schüler-Beziehung behindert, ist nach Ansicht der Autorin die mangelnde Anpassung des Klassenzimmers an die „neuen“ pädagogischen Methoden, obwohl diese in der experimentellen Pädagogik seit Langem nachgewiesen und auch in wissenschaftlichen Kreisen anerkannt sind. Die Achse der Reflexion ist das Phänomen der Interaktion in der glottodidaktischen Umgebung: zwischen den Lernenden und dem Fremdsprachenlehrenden (vgl. Woźniewicz 1987: 88). Das Hauptziel des Beitrags ist es, die Schlüsselthesen der pajdozentrischen Pädagogik (vgl. Dobrołowicz 2005: 8–10) in Erinnerung zu rufen und auf dieser Grundlage die Lernumgebung zu bestimmen, in der es möglich ist, die Lernenden in den Classroom-Management-Prozess an polnischen Schulen einzubeziehen. Dabei handelt es sich um eine Erweiterung der Ziele des Sprachunterrichts, der sich nicht mehr auf rein sprachliche Kenntnisse und Kompetenzen beschränken kann.

Inspiracją do podjęcia próby przedstawienia przejawów kryzysu kondycji starszego człowieka w okolicznościach mobilizujących do zmian była potrzeba zaakcentowania możliwości podejmowania ryzyka indywidualnego, zwiększającego kontrolę nad własnym życiem. Celem badań uczyniłam (re)konstrukcję konstytuującego etapy zdrowienia procesu trajektorii transformatywnego uczenia się pacjenta w wieku senioralnym w przestrzeni oddziału terapeutycznego. To próba rozumienia inkluzyjnego wysiłku podmiotu w drodze do zdrowienia z perspektywy terapeuty pracującego na Oddziale Terapii Uzależnień Alkoholowych (OTUA). Koncentracja uwagi badacza na założeniach paradygmatu interpretatywnego zadecydowała o wyborze koncepcji podmiotu kinestetycznego oraz próbie przeformułowania jego statusu w teorii uczenia się transformatywnego Jacka Mezirowa. Część empiryczna zmierzała do znalezienia odpowiedzi na pytanie: W jaki sposób oddziaływania w warunkach OTUA wobec podopiecznego z zaburzeniami używania alkoholu umożliwiają transformatywne uczenie się? Materiał empiryczny pochodzi z wywiadu pogłębionego ze specjalistą psychoterapii uzależnień, obejmującego odniesienia subiektywne pacjenta, efektywność celowych i niezamierzonych oddziaływań terapeutycznych w sytuacji doświadczenia uczenia się zmian zachowania pacjenta. Wyniki eksploracji wskazują, że zmiana ramy odniesienia pacjenta może wynikać z adaptacyjnego zobowiązania do przestrzegania reguł obowiązujących w procesie terapii, wymuszających na nim radykalne przekształcenia dotychczasowych schematów postępowania.
In this article, I attempt to portray the symptoms of an elderly person being in crisis circumstances that encourage change through taking individual risks to increase control over one’s own life. The goal of my research was to (re)construct the process of transformative learning trajectory of a senior patient in a therapeutic ward, which constitutes the stages of healing. This study was an attempt to understand the subject’s inclusive effort on the road to recovery from the perspective of a therapist working in the Alcohol Addiction Treatment Unit (AATU). My focus on the principles of the interpretative paradigm led me to choose the concept of the kinesthetic subject and attempt to reformulate it on the basis of Jack Mezirow’s transformative learning theory. The empirical part sought to find an answer to the question: how do interactions in AATU settings with a patient with alcohol use disorders enable transformative learning? The empirical material was derived from an in-depth interview with an addiction psychotherapy specialist, including the patient’s subjective testimonials on the effectiveness of intentional and unintentional therapeutic interactions which illustrate the patient’s learning experience during  behavioral changes. The findings indicate that a change in the patient’s frame of reference may result from an adaptive commitment to the rules of the therapy process, which force radical transformations of their previous behavioral patterns.

Contemporary artworks are primary sources for a better understanding of the most important issues in our current reality. The complexities of cultural interactions are often thematized in pieces of art using the artistic means of code-switching, and where the investigation of these questions is pursued in and with regards to the issues of the broader context, including the built and the urban setting. In this paper I examine some aspects of these questions, with the help of some inspiring examples, through artworks by creators coming from five different parts of the world: hence in the works by Manit Sriwanichpoom, Nandipha Mntambo, Michael Rakowitz, Yinka Shonibare, and Marja Helander. In this way I aim to emphasize the global relevance of these issues, as well as what we can thus learn from and about our own origins, current standpoints, and further possibilities.

The aim of the pilot study was to determine whether student travel mapping can be an effective method supporting the improvement of services at a university in the context of creating value for students and their participation in creating this value. In-depth qualitative research was carried out, consisting in conducting semi-structured interviews with students. The study used the customer journey mapping (CJM) method. Students’ experiences related to their interactions with the university were identified from the moment of making the decision to start studying at the university to the moment of formally obtaining student status. The experiments covered the period during the restrictions related to the covid-19 pandemic were in force. Research has shown that journey mapping can be a useful method supporting the improvement of processes related to student service during the recruitment process. It allows for an in-depth analysis of experiences, which shows not only the problems arising at the points of contact, but also feelings and emotions. The use of CJM can help University employees understand students and better adapt service-related processes to their real needs and expectations.

The rock–brine–CO2 interaction significantly affects the mechanism and efficiency of the geological storage process. Therefore, learning and understanding the processes occurring in the pore space is extremely important to ensure the safe large-scale storage of this gas. A measurement procedure was developed to assess changes in petrophysical parameters under the influence of CO2. A specialized test stand was designed and built to simulate rock–brine–CO2 interaction under simulated reservoir conditions. The research was carried out on samples of carbonate rocks and Cambrian sandstones. In most cases, an improvement of filtration parameters in the 5–20% range was observed. In the case of samples in which the dominant mineral was calcite, the increase in filtration parameter values reached 200–400%. An increase in the diameter of the pore channels and a change in the surface roughness, as well as greater hydraulic connectivity of the pore space, will affect the capillary forces and the loss of continuity of the non-wetting fluid flow, limiting capillary trapping in the near-wellbore zone.

During tight manoeuvres, twin-screw ships equipped with two rudders located in the propeller slip stream experience a fairly large imbalance in the hydrodynamic loads on the propeller and rudders. To investigate the phenomenon of rudder asymmetric load in some depth, manoeuvring experiments based on a free-running model were set up in which the kinematics of the model, the forces on the rudder and the stock moment were recorded. In parallel, with the aim of obtaining an exact estimation of free-stream characteristics of the rudder blade, corresponding wind tunnel experiments were also performed. Based on the results of this investigation, an analysis of the interaction effects within the hull-propeller-rudder system was performed and some conclusions were drawn.

The research task Geological integrated coastal zone mapping concerns the recognition and visualization of the geological structure of the Polish coastal zone, enriched with the modelling of erosion-accumulation processes, including prediction of changes in the position of the shoreline and identification of geohazards. It has been running since 2012 and implements multi-instrumental research methods. To date, a total length of about 155 km of the Polish coastal zone has been studied in an area of about 621 km 2 . The main results of the work are presented in the form of maps (e.g., lithogenetic, hydrogeological, geohazard), models (e.g., morpho-geological, hydrodynamic, predictive) and specialized analyses (e.g., morphodynamical, slope stability). In general, the work carried out is done for a utilitarian purpose, i.e. aimed at the practical use of environmental information. According to the standards of the Polish Geological Survey, most of the geological data acquired can be geoprocessed.

Klozapina, lek z wyboru w przypadku schizofrenii opornej na leczenie, ma wiele skutków ubocznych, które w pewnych przypadkach mogą być poważne, a nawet zagrażać życiu. Nadal zgłaszane są ciężkie następstwa zaparć, wtórne do zaburzeń motoryki przewodu pokarmowego wywołanych przez klozapinę (niedrożność jelit, niedokrwienie jelit, martwica przewodu pokarmowego, toksyczne rozdęcie okrężnicy i śmierć). Zmniejszona motoryka przewodu pokarmowego wywołana przez klozapinę jest znacznie częstsza niż dyskrazje krwi i ma wyższy wskaźnik śmiertelności. Artykuł ma na celu przedstawienie wskazówek, jak zapewnić bezpieczeństwo pacjentom podczas przyjmowania klozapiny; promuje wczesną identyfikację i leczenie zaparć wywołanych przez klozapinę. W pracy opublikowanej w 2017 r. przedstawiono wyniki analizy pharmacovigilance z Nowej Zelandii i Australii, z której wynika, że częstość przypadków poważnych powikłań gastrologicznych jest wyraźnie niedoszacowana i wynosi 37/10 000, a współczynnik śmiertelności jest wysoki, rzędu 20%. W ostatnim komunikacie bezpieczeństwa dotyczącym klozapiny Światowa Organizacja Zdrowia (WHO) przedstawiła wyniki analizy raportów działań niepożądanych, wskazując na fakt, że klozapina może doprowadzić do fatalnych w skutkach zaparć, nawet w monoterapii. Inne leki przeciwpsychotyczne (np. olanzapina) również mogą być odpowiedzialne za taki efekt, ale tylko w połączeniu z innymi środkami o działaniu przeciwcholinergicznym.
Clozapine, a drug of choice for treatment-resistant schizophrenia, has many side effects, which can be serious or even life-threatening in some cases. Severe sequelae of constipation, secondary to clozapine-induced gastrointestinal hypomotility (ileus, intestinal obstruction, bowel ischemia, gastrointestinal necrosis, toxic megacolon, and death) continue to be reported. Clozapine-induced gastrointestinal hypomotility is significantly more common than blood dyscrasias and has a higher fatality rate. This article guides health care professionals to ensure patient safety when taking clozapine; promotes early identification and management of clozapine-induced constipation.

Thesis. This article provides an analysis of online social interactions in two online Temporary Learning Groups (TLG) and their correlates with both pre-admissions scores and academic achievements. Concept. The function of Social Networking Systems (SNS) use on academic achievements is most often indirectly assessed through surveying attitudes of students and teachers. Contrary to this approach, we directly assessed the content on a TLG and paired it with objective admission scores and academic achievements. Results and conclusion. The results reveal that the content of the discussions on the TLGs is practical, immediate, and focuses on the allocation of information required for academic achievements. The users of the TLGs are usually students with lower admission scores and academic achievements. They use these platforms as a compensating mechanism to improve their achievements. In addition, some of the TLG users serve as maximising agents of other students’ achievements. TLGs’ implications for teaching, class-attendance and level of schooling must be recognised by teachers. Originality. While researchers focus on the presence of SNSs in class and its hampering of schooling by multitasking the effect of TLG activity must also be addressed.

The review is devoted to self-disproportionation of enantiomers (SDE) phenomenon which has been observed for many different classes of chiral organic compounds. The SDE phenomenon occurs when the fractionation of an enantioenriched sample due the application of a physicochemical process under achiral conditions results in the variation of the proportion of the enantiomers present across the fractions, though the overall composition in terms of the sample ee remains unchanged. The SDE process can be considered in terms of separating the excess enantiomer from the racemate. The basic terminology related to SDE was described. The formation of the SDE under chromatographic conditions is the result of an association process occurring in a solution of a chiral, non-racemic compound. Information on preferred interactions leading to homo-/heterochiral supramolecules can be provided by quantum chemical calculations, NMR spectroscopy and comparison of crystal structures of the racemic and enantiomeric crystals. Several examples of the chromatographic experiments with different classes of compounds were given in two purposes 1) to highlight the possibility of application SDE during column chromatography as the method for enantiopurification of the chiral, non-racemic compounds; 2) to demonstrate that a standard workup (chromatographic purification, evaporation) can alter the stereochemical outcome of asymmetric reactions.

Introduction and aim. Healthcare professionals including prescribers, pharmacists and nurses must have adequate knowledge of drug-drug interactions because they can cause toxicity, loss of efficacy, and side effects. This study was aimed to assess the respective roles of healthcare professionals in preventing drug-drug interactions by clinical interventions. Material and methods. This study was conducted at a Secondary Care Hospital of Pakistan in which total 1000 prescriptions were assessed for drug-drug interactions. Questionnaires and descriptive statistics were tools to assess the satisfaction of prescribers with pharmacists and their own prescribed medications before and after the clinical interventions. Modifications in medication therapies were done accordingly after the evaluation and acceptance of interventions. Results. The p-value was highly significant (p<0.05) which showed that the collaboration between healthcare professionals is necessary to avoid drug-drug interaction by clinical interventions. Acceptance rate of interventions was 77%. Clinical interventions are a useful tool in minimizing and preventing drug-drug interactions. The compliance of prescribers with their own prescribed medication regimens increased after clinical interventions. Conclusion. Prescribers, pharmacists and nurses have their respective roles in preventing drug-drug interactions and they must review the appropriateness of every medication order for clinical interventions.

Aim. The main aim of the article is a presentation of a comparative study of differences in ethical orientations used by teachers in educational practice in two settings: in private life as parents and in the public sphere, working as teachers. Methods. First, a hypothesis was proposed to test the observations by Lawrence Kohlberg (1984) and Carol Gilligan (1993) regarding the relative stability of ethical orientations in terms of the ethics of care and justice. To this end, an assumption was made that teachers prefer the former in contacts with their own children (private sphere) while favouring the latter in relationships with students (public sphere). The paired samples t-test confirmed this hypothesis. Results. Based on the analysis, gender was found not to influence teachers’ ethical orientations in the private sphere; however, it seems to play a part in the public sphere. This ambivalence was revealed in male teachers. Contrary to gender stereotype, in contacts with their own children, they tend to lean towards the ”feminine” ethics of care, but when acting in their public capacity they perpetuate the ‘masculine’ stereotype by following the ethics of justice in their school interactions. Conclusion. It is worth emphasising the ambiguity of the results obtained and the instability of their interpretations. The actions of the teachers studied do not confirm the thesis about the stability of ethical orientations in educational work and are, therefore, indicative of ambivalence towards the role of gender in this process.

Opis:
Remote work issues for disabled people are still poorly understood. Due to the high unemployment rate among disabled people, analysis, and solutions to increase access to work are necessary. Remote workers must deal with space, time, and the blurring of boundaries between home and work life. Remote contact also weakens management-coworker relationships, reducing workplace support and professional development. The aim of the paper was to collect opinions on remote work based on interviews with 15 people with disabilities. Their opinions expressed their experience with the reality in which they function. Dual Sentiment Analysis was used with a dedicated qualitative analysis tool (QDA MINER). The respondents mainly described remote work as having good working conditions at home and being satisfied with less contact with others. Our findings suggest that organizing remote work for people with disabilities in a highly individualized way that takes into account their disabilities, job functions, and complex emotional responses can improve job satisfaction and the work environment. Remote work reduces social contact, which reduces stress and boosts job satisfaction for disabled people.

Opis:
This article presents an analysis of borderland organizations in eastern Poland. It examines the nature of organizations creating the idea of a borderland, their territorial location, and the meanings of the borderland representations they create. The category of “borderland” is mainly used by local self-governments and NGOs. After 1989, these actors concentrated on organizing the region’s ethnic differences. The oldest borderland organizations are focused on the multicultural past of the region. Poland’s accession to the EU resulted in the reorganization of cross-border relations in connection with the emergence of new organizations interested in the state border or in the profits associated with proximity to it. The idea of a borderland in eastern Poland is supported by a small number of local institutions, which have not created a unified representation of what the borderland is. Therefore, the region has retained features of a coexisting and/or interdependent borderland.

Opis:
Current research in robot compliance control is unable to take both transient contact force overshoots and steady-state force tracking problems into account. To address this problem, we propose a fuzzy fractional order (FO) adaptive impedance controller to avoid the force overshoots in the contact stage while keeping force error in the dynamic tracking stage, where traditional control algorithms are not competent. A percentage gain is adopted to map FO parameters to integer order (IO) parameters by their natural properties, and a fuzzy logical controller is introduced to improve the system stability. The simulation results indicate that the proposed controller can be made more stable than and superior to the general impedance controller, and the force tracking results also have been compared with the previous control methods.
