    This paper deals with deintensification and its exponents in two closely related languages: Polish and Slovak. Despite a considerable interest of researchers in the phenomenon of intensification, it is relatively understudied in the Polish-Slovak contrastive perspective. The author focuses on the basic indicators of deintensification, which include grammatical and lexical attenuators. The study compares Polish and Slovak affixes with a weakening function and examines adverbial lexemes in the function of deintensifiers.
    Tematyka artykułu dotyczy dezintensyfikacji i sposobów jej wyrażania w dwóch bliskopokrewnych systemach językowych: polskim i słowackim. Pomimo dużego zainteresowania badaczy zjawiskiem intensyfikacji zagadnienie to pozostaje mało zbadane w aspekcie konfrontatywnym polsko-słowackim. Autorka zwraca uwagę na podstawowe wykładniki dezintensyfikacji, do których należą atenuatory gramatyczne i leksykalne. Porównuje polskie i słowackie afiksy o funkcji osłabiającej i przedstawia leksemy o proweniencji przysłówkowej, które odgrywają rolę dezintensyfikatorów.

    Testing of image intensifier tubes is still done using mostly manual methods due to a series of both technical and legal problems with test automation. Computerized stations for semi-automated testing of IITs are considered as novelty and are under continuous improvements. This paper presents a novel test station that enables semi-automated measurement of image intensifier tubes. Wide test capabilities and advanced design solutions rise the developed test station significantly above the current level of night vision metrology.

    The article presents the word family of the verb grzmieć (to thunder) from the beginning of the Polish language to the 20th century. The research material includes 90 derivatives that have been characterized in terms of word formation and meaning within three values: SOUND, FORCE, and INTENSITY. The synchronic linguistics method of word-formation adapted to historical material allowed for including in the analysis words such as pogrom, zgromić, gromot which lost their formal and semantic connection with the Proto-Slavic root they were based on. The analysis proved that the semantic value of the base and its morphological features influence the development of subsequent meanings of words belonging to the word family. The meaning of intensity especially seen in words such as ogromny, ogromnie, ogromniasty is a kind of exponent of the value inherent in their root and is present in many other words derived from the same Proto-Slavic root.

    In this paper, we will try to show how formal linguistics applied to the study of diachrony can be a fundamental asset for research (and consequently also for teaching at a university level) in the field of French language and literature. We will treat successively the analysis of the support verbs (§2), the realization verbs (§3), the intensity collocations (§4) and the pragmatically restricted clichés (§5). In each section, we will present and discuss numerous examples in medieval French accompanied by their published translations into contemporary French.

    This article is devoted to a historical-linguistic analysis of the equivalents of the Old Czech přieliš in historical Polish: the words bezlisz, brzezlisz, przelisz, przezlisz and przylisz. The study refers to key findings of researchers about these words, their origins and meaning. On the basis of analysis of linguistic material the author formulates conclusions about word-formation of the equivalents of přieliš in Polish, their frequency in monuments of Polish literature from the Old Polish period to the end of the sixteenth century, their meaning and status in Polish, as well as presumable causes of their disappearance from the language. The paper presents examples that confirm their functioning in monuments of the Polish language, such as Biblia królowej Zofii [Queen Sophia’s Bible] from the mid-fifteenth century and Biblia Jana Leopolity [John Leopolita’s Bible] from 1561, as well as in dictionaries of Polish. The study also considers information about Old Czech and compares parallel verses of Polish and Czech Bible translations.
    Artykuł poświęcony jest historycznojęzykowej analizie odpowiedników staroczeskiego přieliš, czyli wyrazów bezlisz, brzezlisz, przelisz, przezlisz i przylisz w dawnej polszczyźnie. Autorka przytacza najważniejsze opinie badaczy o wymienionych wyrazach, ich pochodzeniu i znaczeniu. Na podstawie analizy materiału językowego formułuje wnioski dotyczące budowy słowotwórczej staroczeskich odpowiedników přieliš w języku polskim, ich frekwencji w zabytkach literatury polskiej od staropolszczyzny do końca XVI w., znaczenia i statusu tych wyrazów w polszczyźnie, a także przypuszczalnych przyczyn ich zaniku. W artykule przedstawiono przykłady potwierdzające funkcjonowanie wspomnianych wyrazów zarówno w zabytkach języka polskiego m.in. w Biblii królowej Zofii z połowy XV w. i Biblii Jana Leopolity z 1561 r., jak i w słownikach języka polskiego. Ponadto autorka przywołuje informacje o staroczeskim i porównuje równoległe wersety przekładów Biblii na język polski i czeski.

    The article concerns the issue of intensification in Polish and Slovak reviews of Pavol Rankov’s prose. The review, as a form accompanying the main text, is treated as paratext. The linguistic category of intensification can be expressed in the text by the variety of linguistic means: derivational, morphological, lexical, and stylistic. These structures, with the collateral “intensifiers”, were cited and analysed in this study. The main role of intensification is to attract the language users’ attention to the part of a phrase. it can be obtained by a variety of linguistic means. There should be a distinction between exponents of intensity (in context) and the function of intensifiers (in narrow view). That is why there is an important methodological new proposal to isolate intensifiers as the other part of speech in the contemporary Polish. intensifier is a modifier, which converts the meaning of another lexical unit by giving it more power, force, in contrast to the (wider) exponent of intensity, which can be a derivational, morphological, lexical, phraseological or syntactic and stylistic phenomenon. in the Slovak linguistics, the intensification of properties (for adjectives) is next to deminutiveness, one of the clearest and most diversified, according to expressiveness, onomasiological categories.
    Príspevok sa zameriava na lingvistickú kategóriu intenzívností v recenziách prozy Pavla Rankova v Poľsku a na Slovensku. Recenzia, ako forma sprevádzajúci hlavný text, je považovaná za paratext. jazyková kategória intenzity môže byť vyjadrená v texte s rôznymi jazykovými prostriedkami: slovotvornými, morfologickými, lexikálnymi a štylistickými, ktoré boli citované a analyzované v štúdii. intenzifikácia obsahu je upútaním pozorností odoberateľa na určenú časť frázy, čo je možné získať pomocou rozličných prostriedkov. Sú medzi nimi prostriedky intenzifikácie (v širsšom zmysle) a fungovanie intenzifikátorov (v užšom zmysle). Pre uvedenú analýzu je metodologicky dôležité vyčleniť osobitný druh intenzifikátorov, ktorý je v poľskej klasifikácii považovaný za nový slovný druh. intenzifikátor (zosilňovač) je modifikátorom, ktorý mení význam lexikalnej jednotky tým, že jej pridáva moc, silu na rozdiel od prostriedkov intenzifikácie, ktorými sú slovotvorné, morfologické, lexikálne, frazeologické, syntaktické a štylistické javy. v slovenskej lingvistike sa intenzifikácia vlastností (prídavných mien) z hľadiska expresívnosti javi, popri deminutívnosti, ako jedná z najvýraznejších a najdiferencovanejších onomaziologických kategórií.
