Refining, petrochemical and energy industry are examples of influence on all environment components. Uncontrolled imposing new stricter burdens and legal requirements may cause the lack of expected results in reducing their impact on the environment. Moreover, effects may be counterproductive. Simultaneously, companies have to balance between legislative challenges, social expectations and technical possibilities, paying special attention on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), sustainability and biodiversity. During the Fifth Refinery Forum in Brussels, representatives of the European Commission admitted that legislation laid down within the European Union in the years 2000-2012 lowered the competitiveness of European refining industry. This status is proven by the analysis of refining industry prepared by The Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, and Joint Research Centre [1]. Weakening demand for fuels, lack of opportunities for increasing the capacity of European refineries (permanent shutdowns) and shale revolution cause a number of challenges including environmental. Therefore, it is necessary to take into account all factors mentioned above, and an integrated approach to environmental and climate protection in the face of changing legal regulations becomes crucial. This article proposes a new integrated, model approach to all issues connected with environmental protection in refining, petrochemical and energy complexes. In simple words, such complexes require maintenance shutdowns, repairs, overhauls. In addition, in the process various forms of energy is used and converted, so we can talk about the “exploitation of high thermodynamic machine”.

Opis:
Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) has been approached in different ways by University faculties, secondary school teachers, and researches. However, the contribution to the ESD system made by international university projects has not been sufficiently discussed in the literature so far. The paper presents a case study and theoretical analysis of the role played by international university cooperation projects aimed at putting into practice the integration of inclass and extra-curriculum activities in ESD. This approach to education for sustainable development has been adopted in the Kaliningrad region (Russian Federation), one of the cross-border Baltic regions. The case study covers all the three dimensions of sustainability, i.e. ecological, economic and social development, as well as the improvement of regional environment. Legislative documents and projects developed by federal and regional government are mentioned, as well as obstacles to and prospects for the development of the integrated ESD approach. The project called “Lagoons as crossroads for tourism and interactions of peoples of South-East Baltic: from the history to present” is conducted by three countries and continues the work started in the CROSSROADS project. Its outcomes are used to support the conclusions drawn from existing theoretical approaches.

This article presents an integrated approach towards building a simulation model of the transportation network. The proposed method is based on the recommendations of the Blue Book for Sector of Public Transport in cities, agglomerations and regions issued by Jaspers (Joint Assistance to Support Projects in European Regions). It comprises six steps with such elements as econometric modelling, artificial neural networks and mathematical model. It is dedicated to developing simulation models for the purpose of picturing present situation and dependencies dominating in the transportation network, easily reflecting effects of potential modifications and providing forecasts for the future. The described hybrid method was verified in practice by building the simulation model which is presented in the next article in this series entitled: An Integrated Approach towards Building a Simulation Model Supporting the Management of the Passenger Transportation System. Part 2 – Case Study.

Nuclear power plants benefit from a sophisticated and comprehensive safety regime that has been established over the years. However, the security regime for nuclear power plants is far less developed than the safety regime. Although adopting (and adapting) certain elements of the nuclear safety regime could significantly strengthen the nuclear security regime, at least four challenges are likely to surface: national sovereignty, information transparency, lack of policy consensus, and challenges of regime harmonization. Seek an optimal balance between mandatory international standards and voluntary actions and endorse consideration of additional binding and non-binding international safety and security requirements.

Sustainable Development (SD) is one the most discussed issue now days, which is gaining priority day by day due to the exploitation of nature in a drastic way. It is from this apprehension that ‘Education for sustainable development’ (ESD) emerged with an immediate urge to preserve and conserve our nature and natural resources. The concept of ESD entangles the different countries and states across the world as a whole for a sustainable society, which merges the environment, economic and social dimensions. The paper discusses about the effect of integrated approach to education for sustainable development on the students’ knowledge on sustainable development. The investigator developed a curriculum by integrating SD concepts into science and social science of VII standard of NCERT syllabus and various learning activities for their transaction by incorporating several pedagogical strategies that lead to constructing knowledge, developing social perspectives and analytical abilities.The study was of quasi experimental in nature with two group pre-test- post-test design, whereby the integrated curriculum was taught to the experimental group for about five months and the control group was exposed to the conventional curriculum and methodology. It was found that there was a significant difference on the knowledge on sustainable development between experimental and control group. The experimental group had a higher mean knowledge score than the control group.On the basis of the findings from the study, it is concluded that there is a sheer need to highlight the importance of integration of SD components in pedagogy at all levels.

Wejście w życie pakietu rozporządzeń dotyczących okresu programowania 2014-2020 skłania do refleksji na temat spójności tego procesu na poziomie unijnym i krajowym. Jest to istotne z punktu widzenia systemu wydatkowania środków unijnych w Polsce. Wejście w życie z początkiem roku pakietu rozporządzeń kończy dyskusję na temat wieloletnich ram finansowych na poziomie unijnym i rozpoczyna oficjalnie prace na poziomie krajowym. Zadania państw członkowskich na tym etapie są kluczowe, ponieważ dotyczą nie tylko przełożenia priorytetów rozwojowych UE na poziom krajowy, ale także konstrukcji systemu zarządzania zgodnie z zasadą zintegrowanego podejścia do rozwoju regionalnego. Dlatego celem artykułu jest analiza spójności procesu programowania na lata 2014-2020 na poziomie unijnym i krajowym.
Entry into force of the regulations concerning the programming period 2014-2020 tends to reflect on the integrity of the process at the EU and national level. This is important from the point of view of the system of spending of EU funds in Poland. Entry into force at the beginning of the package of regulations ends the discussion on the Multiannual Financial Framework at the EU level and officially begins work at the national level. Tasks of the Member States at this stage are crucial because they relate not only to transform the priorities of EU development on the national level, but also the construction management system in accordance with the principle of an integrated approach to regional development. Therefore the aim of the article is to analyse the cohesion of the programming process for the period 2014-2020 at the EU and national level.

The purpose of the research is the creation of an effective didactic system through the integrated approach to the content of natural education with a special emphasis on professional orientation. Methods of the analysis, synthesis of knowledge, educational experiment, and mathematical statistics were used for the fulfillment of the purpose. The effective didactic system of interdisciplinary knowledge of natural-science course, namely the water security course, was created. The educational experiment proved the effectiveness of building the educational content of the training course based on an integrated approach.

In the current legal system concerning the environmental legislation in Poland, environmental impact assessment (EIA) constitutes an essential tool for the protection of ecosystems. A report that is being prepared within EIA includes different methods to assess the impact of a given project on the environment. The combination of the currently used methods and ecosystem services assessment may allow for a better understanding of the consequences of the environmental change. This article presents the theoretical framework of integrating the ecosystem services assessment into the EIA procedure and its use in a report on the environmental impact assessment of a given project.

Opis:
Literature and its position in curricula within translation studies (TS) study programmes has always been a source of heated debates. This paper zooms in on proposing an integrated approach to teaching literature for TS trainees based on combining a linguistic, literary and cultural analysis. Its aim is to outline methodological considerations, give recommendations for future teaching practice and provide the TS-minded community with a possible didactic inspiration on the basis of the author’s advocated approach. Part of this paper is also an empirical analysis from the perspective of the proposed integrated approach based on a selected case study of Christopher Marlowe’s Act I from his play The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus in order to substantiate its relevance. The analysis shows how a literary text comes to convey its meaning thanks to a combination of threefold interpretative insights.
Literatura i jej miejsce w treściach programowych translatoryki (TS) zawsze były źródłem gorącej debaty. Niniejszy artykuł skupia się na propozycji zintegrowanego podejścia do nauczania literatury adeptów translatoryki (TS), bazując na połączeniu analizy z zakresu językoznawstwa, literatury i kultury. Celem jej jest podkreślenie wagi rozważań metodologicznych, udzielenie wskazówek co do dalszej praktyki nauczania oraz dostarczenie translatorsko ukierunkowanej społeczności oczekiwanych inspiracji wynikających z proponowanego przez autorkę podejścia. Częścią niniejszej pracy jest także analiza empiryczna prowadzona, z perspektywy proponowanego podejścia zintegrowanego oparta na studium Aktu I sztuki Christophera Marlowa Tragiczna historia doktora Fausta, po to, aby ukazać jej zasadność. Analiza ta ukazuje jak tekst literacki przekazuje zawarte w nim treści dzięki troistej kombinacji czynników interpretacyjnych.
