Artykuł powstał w oparciu o pracę magisterską pt. „Percepcja wybranych cech języka Cockney przez native speakerów” obronioną w 2009 roku. Zasadniczym celem artykułu jest analiza badania ankietowego dotyczącego tematu dialektu Cockney przeprowadzonego za pomocą narzędzia umieszczonego na portalu www.freeonlinesurveys.com. Na przełomie kwietnia i maja 2009 roku w ramach uzupełnienia ankiety omówiono z native speakerami, ukierunkowując ocenę stanu ich świadomości na temat istnienia dialektu Cockney we wschodnim Londynie. Przed przystąpieniem do ankiety zapoznano się z wiedzą teoretyczną na temat Cockney, biorąc pod uwagę m.in. etymologię słowa Cockney oraz pochodzenie dialektu czyli zasady twórczości Cockney Rhyming of the Slang.
The present article based is on the master’s thesis entitled Native speakers’ perception of chosen features of Cockney of defended by me in 2009. A principal purpose of the article is the analysis of the survey on the subject the dialect Cockney of carried out by means of the tool placed on the portal www.freeonlinesurveys.com. At the turn of April and May of the year 2009 native speakers were spoken for the supplement of the survey targeting the evaluation of the state of their consciousness on the subject existences of the dialect Cockney from eastern London. Before the analysis of the survey, became introduced theoretical knowledge on the subject of Cockney taking into account among other things the etymology of the word Cockney, the origin of the dialect or rules of the creations of Cockney Rhyming of the Slang.

Opis:
Polish accession to the European Union in 2004 saw migration to the UK increase exponentially. However, the recent climate in Britain has become one of a harsher anti-immigrant discourse. This paper is based on findings of my doctoral study exploring identity construction amongst Polish-born adolescents in the UK in the light of such negative discourses. Here, I see identity as contingent, (re) negotiated in different contexts; I also draw on the theory of positioning, whereby individuals adopt certain subject positions even as they are positioned differently by others. Fieldwork for the study took place in January-May 2016. A narrative inquiry approach was used; interviews were held with eleven participants aged 11–16, living in small Polish communities. Findings suggest that while the adolescents report having been subjected to anti-Polish bullying, they refuse to tell stories of victimhood. Rather, they present themselves as agentive individuals who respond to attacks by asserting their Polish identity and reinforcing their right to be in the UK. Thus, despite the antagonistic discourses surrounding Polish migration to the UK, these adolescents demonstrate the positive way that they are confronting their present difficulties and approaching their future.

This study incorporates Honneth’s social recognition into awareness context theory by reconsidering a case study of the dialogue between Zainichi Korean and Japanese people in Japan. It revitalizes the theoretical significance of Strauss’ symbolic interactionism in terms of its focus on power dynamics and conflicts between the majority and minorities that differ in the cultural or ethnic background in modern global society. Incorporating critical theory into symbolic interactionism is a method of enhancing its contemporary significance. However, the discrepancy between them remains unresolved. There are some previous studies on Zainichi Koreans’ dialogue and the public sphere. Still, this case uniquely fits the aim of this study. As a result, it proposes both a substantive theory as a social justice inquiry in Japanese society and a modified formal theory of awareness context by adopting the theoretical perspective coined in this study and using abductive reasoning in the reconsideration. The substantive theory proposes a joint action characterized by unending mutual recognition and pragmatist dissent as a pragmatist public sphere between different ethnic persons in Japan. It is a method of grassroots communication that realizes liberal democracy as the form of modern society in Japan, liberating people from the Japanese communitarian mindset of Wa. The formal theory proposes new awareness contexts focusing on information and social recognition, which applies to the majority-minority relationship that differs in cultural or ethnic backgrounds from a theoretical perspective by focusing on conflicts between traditional cultural communities and modern society. Additionally, as an implication of this study, a pluralistic character of symbolic interactionism united by common frameworks of formal theories is proposed.

Towards the end of the seventies of the twentieth century American philosopher Matthew Lipman and his colleagues developed a method of philosophical inquiry with children and the youth, which, according to the author, allowed to supply inefficient system of education in the areas of supporting intellectual and social development of children. The Philosophy for Children scheme was aimed to develop critical thinking skills, reasoning, argumentation and dialogue. The idea of philosophizing with children in school has become an inspiration for many educational experiments carried out in various parts of the world. An important part of these experiments is the scheme’s evaluation, the aim of which is to investigate the effectiveness of the method and its impact on intellectual, emotional and social development of children. The article analyzes the 4 selected European researches, concerning the measurement of the impact of philosophical investigations on the development of children cognitive competence. It presents the basic methodological assumptions, the course of study and the results and conclusions of experiments. All of these experiments demonstrate the positive impact of methods to support the intellectual development of children. Despite this, the method is still seen only as an educational experiment and there is not wider application in education. From the analysis of research reports one can conclude that there is a need for in-depth and systematic study of the method of philosophical inquiry in education, inclusion in the study area, not only the effect of the impact of the program on children’s competence but also on the competence of teachers and broadly understood culture of the school.

Focusing on identity formation amongst child migrants, this paper reflects on the experiences of unaccompanied minors sent from Britain to Australia in the 20th Century. Between 1947-1967 3170 children are understood to have been exported to Australia, making Britain the only country in the world known to have exported children during peace time. Most of these children came from British care homes to which they had been entrusted by their families or social workers. The majority of exported children were from working class backgrounds and many still had living parents, or other close family, in the UK. Children as young as four were sent to train as farm labourers and domestic staff, simultaneously relieving the burden of providing for these children from the British Government, and increasing the white population in ‘underpopulated’ Australia. The paper presents thematic analysis of four published sources produced for a wide readership: two published memoirs and two young adult novels. The paper seeks to reflect on the impact of forced transnational migration on the children’s identity formation as new Australians.

In this article, I describe how I teach graduate students who are in-service teachers in our master’s literacy program on how to facilitate inquiry-based learning among school children. This type of learning concentrates on students’ curiosity, asking questions, and investigating problems in collaboration. The teacher in such learning is more of a facilitator working towards helping children in becoming more independent learners. In my role as a teacher educator and coach I have used several resources to develop my own practice of teaching inquiry learning since 2015. I describe how I structure my graduate students’ tutoring for inquiry and how I teach the ways of utilizing literacy teaching strategies and routines, such as shared reading and accountable talk, in order to facilitate children’s knowledge building and their increasing independence in collaborative work. I also describe how my research interests that concentrate around investigating innovative inquiry-based learning spaces has informed this teaching.

Konstruktivistický přístup zdůrazňuje, že neexistuje absolutní pravda. V českém školství se bohužel potýkáme s jevem, že veškeré informace získávají žáci jako definitivní. Dochází k memorování definic, což ukazuje možnosti zapamatování, ale nedokládá logické myšlení žáků a propojení znalostí a dovedností s reálným životem. Konstruktivismus umožňuje učení na základě organizace myšlenek a získávání zkušeností. Konstruktivistická teorie se v reálné výuce promítá v badatelsky orientované výuce, kdy mají žáci řešit úkol formou problémového vyučování. V příspěvku je demonstrován nástin podpory přírodovědných a technických předmětů na Ostravské univerzitě s využitím měřících sad, robotických stavebnic a dalšího vybavení v rámci projektu Okna vědy dokořán
The constructivist approach emphasizes that there is no absolute truth. In the Czech education is unfortunately experiencing a phenomenon that all information obtained by the pupils as definitive. There is memorizing definitions, indicating the possibility of memorization, but does not show the logical thinking of pupils and connecting knowledge and skills to real life. Constructivism allows learning organizations based on ideas and gaining experience. Constructivist theory in the real education is reflected Inquiry Based Science Education where pupils have to solve problems. The paper demonstrates the outline of promoting science and technical subjects at the University of Ostrava using measuring sets, robot kits and other equipment by project “Okna vědy dokořán”.

Inquiry-based education as a means of teaching has not been sufficiently studied in the context of empirical cognition in children of lower ages. The currently enhanced space for preschool science education creates possibilities to verify the applicability of physical experiment in the empirical cognition of preschool children and its effect on the development of their creative thinking. The developed Empirical Cognition Development Programme was implemented in kindergarten conditions and empirically verified in a quasi-experimental design on a sample of 102 children (2 experimental groups N = 71; 1 control group N = 31). To capture the level of creative thinking and its changes in children, the Torrance Figural Test of Creative Thinking (Torrance, 1974; Jurčová, 1984) was used. Results of comparative analyses showed a statistically and practically significant increase in the level of the creative thinking factors studied (fluency, flexibility, originality) in one of the experimental groups in comparison with the control group. The article discusses the results and implications for educational practice in the conditions of preschool education.

The article is focused on the Czech university students’ attitudes to integrated science at elementary school and biology at secondary school and their experiences with inquiry-based scientific education (IBSE) of these subjects. Results show students’ opinions about teaching methods in nature science education and the direction in which it would be beneficial to aim he future teaching and learning process in Czech educational environment. Our results show that the main reason for integrated science or biology to gain popularity is teacher personality, implementation of field work and usefulness of gained knowledge in everyday life. Respondents’ answers revealed that the new educational methods, e.g. IBSE, could have a positive effect on students’ approach to natural science subjects.

In his essay, “Affording our Culture: “Smart” Technology and the Prospects for Creative Democracy,” Tibor Solymosi addresses my challenge for neuropragmatism to counter what I have elsewhere called dopamine democracy. Although I believe that Solymosi has begun to provide an explanation for how neuropragmatism may counter dopamine democracy, especially with his conceptions Œ and cultural affordances, I respond with a helpful addition to his approach by returning to the theory of inquiry as put forth by John Dewey. In particular, I focus on the phases of inquiry as colored by Dewey’s concept of humility. Solymosi does not pay adequate attention to the function of inquiry necessary for combatting dopamine democracy. His account of cultural affordances and education is strengthened by using Dewey’s concept of humility as a guiding disposition for neuropragmatic inquiry. Recognizing humility as an instrument of neuropragmatic inquiry provides us with a tool to better address the pitfalls of dopamine democracy, especially misinformation and incentive salience. My argument proceeds by first articulating dopamine democracy as a problem and Solymosi’s concept of cultural affordances and how he understands these as neuropragmatic tools to address the problem through education. I present humility as an instrumental concept derived from Dewey’s work on inquiry. I then suggest how humility may serve neuropragmatic inquiry to assist in combatting the problems of dopamine democracy.

New York Bay is one of the most important transition regions of ships trading to east America. The region plays an important role in the commerce of the New York metropolitan area. The area is surrounded with the coasts that have various levels of environmental sensitivity. The area accommodates high diversity of native ecosystems and species that are rather vulnerable in case of oil spill. Thus getting well informed about the likelihood, or fate, of oil spills around this region is of great importance so that proactive measures can be taken. The purpose of this study is to investigate the oil spill and predict the future accidents likely to be encountered around the Bay of New York. Two trajectory models have been conducted for the study. ADIOS (Automated Data Inquiry for Oil Spills), has been conducted for natural degradation calculations, and, GNOME (General NOAA Operational Modeling Environment), has been conducted for surface spread simulation. The results gained through these efforts are hoped to be useful for many organizations dealing with oil spill response operations and contribute to an effective and efficient coordination among the relevant institutions.

Artykuł prezentuje kwestię dociekań robotniczych. W pierwszej części zostaje dokonana krótka charakterystyka wspomnianych dociekań oraz zarysowany zostaje ich historyczny rozwój. W części drugiej dociekania robotnicze poddane są filozoficznej analizie, koncentrującej się przede wszystkim na radykalnej wersji dociekań, czyli tak zwanych współbadaniach. Wskazane zostają pewne problemy w ich rozumieniu, relacji między radykalnym nurtem dociekań a akademicką metodologią. Na koniec określone zostaje znaczenie, jakie dociekania robotnicze mogą mieć dla pedagogiki, przede wszystkim zaś dla pedagogiki pracy.
The article presents the issue of workers’ inquiry. The first part is a short description of these inquiries and shows their historical development. In the second part, the inquiries are subjected to philosophical analysis, focusing primarily on the radical version of the inquiry, i.e. co-research. In this part, some problems are analyzed with an understanding of the relationship between the radical version of inquiries and the academic methodology. The conclusion indicates what importance workers’ inquiry may have for education and, above all, for pedagogy of work.

One of the fundamental elements of a scientist's work is the ability to lead observations of the phenomena that surround us and based on them making conclusions. These observations are conducted within the so-called scientific experiments. Lessons learned based on the results obtained in experiments allow researchers to better understand the essence of the phenomena occurring in the world around us. Drawing conclusions is not always easy. In order to achieve this skill, we must possess a well-established knowledge in the field of the phenomenon that interests us. The most striking example of how important skills are observation and drawing proper conclusions is the phenomenon of global climate warming. The main parameter influencing temperatures registered on Earth is the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and especially carbon dioxide created from combustion processes. A significant role in studies of the reduction of CO2 emissions plays chemists. To be sure that conducted by them experiments are optimally designed, it is necessary to ensure them with proper education already at the secondary school level. The main aim of this article was to conduct the study in order to explain chemical issues that create the greatest cognitive difficulties among students. The second aim of the article was to propose a chemical experiment to students that would allow them to find out more about the phenomena governing in the area of problematic issues. The proposed experiment is based on the concept of solubility equilibrium.
