Opis:
Graphene applications in electronic and optoelectronic devices have been thoroughly and intensively studied since graphene discovery. Thanks to the exceptional electronic and optical properties of graphene and other two-dimensional (2D) materials, they can become promising candidates for infrared and terahertz photodetectors. Quantity of the published papers devoted to 2D materials as sensors is huge. However, authors of these papers address them mainly to researches involved in investigations of 2D materials. In the present paper this topic is treated comprehensively with including both theoretical estimations and many experimental data. At the beginning fundamental properties and performance of graphene-based, as well as alternative 2D materials have been shortly described. Next, the position of 2D material detectors is considered in confrontation with the present stage of infrared and terahertz detectors offered on global market. A new benchmark, so-called “Law 19”, used for prediction of background limited HgCdTe photodiodes operated at near room temperature, is introduced. This law is next treated as the reference for alternative 2D material technologies. The performance comparison concerns the detector responsivity, detectivity and response time. Place of 2D material-based detectors in the near future in a wide infrared detector family is predicted in the final conclusions.

Opis:
Carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRPs) are widely used in aerospace structures due to their high stiffness, strength and good fatigue properties. They are however vulnerable to loads perpendicular to their plane and, while impacted, can suffer significant internal damage decreasing their overall strength. Detecting and sizing such damage is an important task of the non-destructive inspection (NDI) methods. This study was conducted to detect and quantify damage in a set of six impacted even rectangular CFRP specimens designed from a MiG-29 vertical stabilizer’s skin. The inspection was done using the ultrasonic (UT) method (based on mobile scanner – MAUS V) and the pulsed infrared thermographic (IRT) method. Each specimen’s inside and outside (impacted) surface was inspected separately with IRT, while the outside surface was then inspected with UT. UT provided the most precise measurements of the damage area, while the IRT inspection of the outside surface (which would be accessible on a real aircraft structure) provided underestimated values due to the damage’s depth and geometry.

A comparison of methods for obtaining nanocellulose using acid and ionic liquid hydrolysis reactions. In this study, two methods were compared, i.e. acid hydrolysis using sulphuric acid (VI) and ionic liquid hydrolysis using 1-methyl-3-butylimidazolium chloride to obtain nanocellulose from Sigmacell Cellulose Type 20. The efficiency of both processes was tested for weight loss of the material during the reaction. The study showed that much more material can be obtained using ionic liquid hydrolysis than using acid hydrolysis. A dynamic light scattering study was performed to determine material particle size before and after these processes. Particles of nanometric size were recorded only for cellulose after the reaction with an ionic liquid. In addition, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was performed to determine the chemical structure of the materials tested.

In this work, we have designed and synthesized the fluorescent probe 1, which was capable to selectively detect fluoride anion (F). More importantly, the probe 1 possessed near-infrared excitation and emission wavelengths (excitation at 650 nm and emission at 695), and the probe solution had changed dramatically from yellow to cyan with the addition of F. In addition, the fluorescence intensity exhibited perfectly positive correlation with concentration of F concentration from 0 to 40 μM (R2 = 0.9972), which offered the important condition for quantitative analysis. The probe 1 owned detection limit of 46 nM. Therefore, this near-infrared probe can be of great benefit for detecting F in practical application.

Opis:
In this paper, infrared radiation exiting plain surfaces with different geometries is numerically simulated. Surfaces under consideration are assumed to have steady uniform heat generation inside. Moreover, the boundaries of the surfaces are considered to be at the surroundings temperature. Infrared radiation is calculated based on the temperature profile determined for the surface. The temperature profile of the surface is determined assuming the two dimensional heat conduction equations to govern the problem. The physical domain is transformed into the appropriate computational domain and the governing equation is mapped into the suitable forms in the new coordinate system of variables. After that the temperature profile of the surface is computed, the infrared radiation distribution of the surface is evaluated based on the equations given in the manuscript. The temperature profile as well as the IR images are given in the results section. It is concluded that the maximum value of infrared radiation of the surface occurs at the center. Moreover, it is concluded that among surfaces with equal areas, the one having the largest perimeter has the least value of IR at its center.

A reaction of [3-(2-aminoethylamino)propyl]trimethoxysilane with wood and cellulose – chemical analyses. The paper presents tests results for [3-(2-aminoethylamino)propyl]trimethoxysilane (AATMOS) reactivity with cellulose and Scots pine wood. The tested material was treated with ethanolic solution of aminosilane and analyzed using instrumental methods, including elemental analysis, atomic absorption spectrometry and infrared spectroscopy. The results of the chemical analysis indicated that [3-(2-aminoethylamino)propyl]trimethoxysilane exhibited reactivity with both cellulose and pine wood. In addition, AATMOS-treated cellulose showed a higher content of silicon and nitrogen and more significant changes in FTIR spectra than the treated wood, suggesting that AATMOS showed a higher reactivity to cellulose than to wood.
Reakcja [3-(2-aminoetyloamino)propylo]trimetoksysilanu z drewnem i celulozą – analizy chemiczne. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki reaktywności [3-(2-aminoetyloamino)-propylo]trimetoksysilanu (AATMOS) z celulozą i drewnem sosny zwyczajnej. Badany materiał traktowano etanolowym roztworem aminosilanu i analizowano z wykorzystaniem metod instrumentalnych, takich jak: analiza elementarna, atomowa spektrometria absorpcyjna i spektroskopia w podczerwieni.

Computer vision is one of the main research fields for micro air vehicles. Therefore many teams around the globe are developing different camera systems which are directly mounted on a MAV or observe and track it from a fixed position. This paper presents a simple and cheap solution for a precise 40 gram onboard computer vision system based on a 6 gram Gumstix Overo Firestorm computer, a 23 gram infrared camera a custom adapter board including buck converter and connectors and three ground based high power infrared LED’s. It has great potential for educational applications because no fixed and calibrated camera installation around the flight area is necessary so it can easily be deployed and removed. The use of various filter algorithms makes it very reliable and the 752x480 pixel images are processed with 12 fps. The achieved accuracy is about 2% and the range was tested up to 10 m.

This paper presents results of flow boiling heat transfer in two parallel asymmetrically heated vertical minichannels. The heating element for Fluorinert FC-72 flowing in the minichannels was a thin foil with an enhanced surface on the side in contact with the fluid. The channels were observed from both sides through glass panes. Two of the panes allowed us to observe the two phase flow patterns on the enhanced surface of the foil, while the other two panes were used for simultaneous measurement of temperature on the smooth side of the foil. The temperature was measured by applying two contactless methods. One was liquid crystal thermography (LCT), which required treating the foil surface with thermochromic liquid crystals (TLCs), and the other was infrared thermography (IRT), which required coating the foil surface with black paint. Calculations were performed on the basis ofa one-dimensional model to determine the heat transfer coefficient at the foil-fluid interface from the Robin boundary condition. The experimental results were graphically represented as the foil temperature and the heat transfer coefficient against the distance from the minichannel inlet and as LCT and IRT images obtained for saturated boiling.

Trueness and precision of a method for determining the water content (%) of food and chemical products based on infrared radiation with a wavelength in the range (2.70÷7.21 μm) was evaluated. The most accurate measurements for food products were obtained when the heat source was a radiant heater with a radiation wavelength of 7.21 μm, a trueness deviation of 0.01%. When heated with radiation with wavelengths (from 3.32 μm to 7.21 μm), the trueness of the measurement ranged (0.03%÷0.13%) for chemical products. The shortest analysis time for food products was found when the analysis was carried out using an IR source with a wavelength of 7.21 μm, while for chemical products, a heat source with a wavelength of 2.70÷7.21 μm was optimal. According to the results of the analysis, the use of IR radiation with a wavelength range of 3.32÷7.21 μm is an alternative for accurate measurements.

Opis:
In-situ study of deformation behaviour and mechanisms occurring during early stages of deformation is of a great practical importance. Low stacking fault energy materials, as is the case of AISI 304L, show non-linear deformation characteristics way below the bulk yield point. Shockley partial dislocations, formation of stacking faults respectively, resulting in creation of shear bands and ε-martensite transformation are the mechanisms occurring in the low strains in the studied steel. Acoustic emission and infrared thermography have been used in this study to investigate the deformation kinetics at the low strain stages of slow strain rate tensile tests. Acoustic emission cumulative energy together with the tracking of specimen maximum temperature have been found to be very useful in-situ techniques both supplementing each other in the sense of the sensitivity to different mechanisms. Mechanical, acoustic emission and infrared thermography results are discussed in detail with respect to potential occurred mechanism.

Opis:
Hot surfaces in ship engine rooms are the risk objects that most frequently contribute to fire ignition. Thermography, especially when using thermal cameras, offers many advantages over more common infrared thermometers, but dedicated systems are often prohibitively expensive. An affordable hybrid approach was thus tested in this study, where a low-cost thermal camera smartphone was paired with a common infrared thermometer. Measurements were taken in situ during a sea voyage in an engine room under normal operating conditions, and the surfaces of the main engine, the generating set auxiliary engine, and the exhaust gas boiler were tested. Several areas were discovered to be well above the generally-accepted temperature limit of 220°C, primarily due to absent or poor insulation. Clear recommendations for remediation are made, and the proposed testing method offers fast, easy, effective, and affordable inspection.
