Zdaniem autorów infografiki czynią zwłaszcza kształcenie zdalne jeszcze bardziej interaktywnym, stymulującym i satysfakcjonującym doświadczeniem.
    The paper aims to analyse a wide spectrum of issues related to infographics: how to design them so that they can effectively visualise information, data and knowledge, how to upload them to an LCMS for pedagogic gain, how to use them to engage students in learning and make them active and creative participants. It also emphasises their important role in innovative education, particularly in modern academic education, which should support every student to develop both hard and soft skills and empower them to succeed in the changing work context. The authors view the use of infographics as a step forward in making online learning an interactive, stimulating and rewarding experience.

    Infographics has become one the most popular forms used in contemporary communication. It is employed both in traditional media as well as electronic ones in order to present relations between various phenomena or explain particular mechanisms of action in a picturesque way. Infographics is a hybrid form which reaches out for disparate visual elements: linguistic, pictorial and diagram ones, and combines them in a nonlinear way. In media communication infographics occur both as an independent message, or as e.g. an element accompanying a press article and complementing it. The purpose of the article is to demonstrate that infographics as a visual plane can serve the economization and rationalisation of media communication.

    In view of changing political and economical situation in Poland during the last 150 years, the role and development of press maps in transmission the information is being addressed. Maps published in the newspapers, to a large extent reflected the main topics addressed by the press as well as features of transmission policy of the time. The number of maps published substantially increased during the times of military conflicts and political changes. The press maps, together with the maps addressing criminal and lately common terrorist's activities, played the most important role among all published maps. Besides providing the information and allowing understanding the background of the events, in some cases the press maps played educational role and in other cases, through the mass media they became accessible to the general public. The early 1990s brought a gradual increase in number of maps published. The political changes in Poland after 1989 resulting in, among others, the introduction of market economy, suppression of censorship and state mass media monopoly, did have significant impact on the development of Polish press and indirectly also on journalistic cartography. Furthermore the use of computers revolutionized the processes of preparing maps.

    We wprowadzeniu omówiono specyficzne trudności w czytaniu ze zrozumieniem tekstów podręczników szkolnych przez uczniów z problemami słuchu w świetle literatury przedmiotu. Następnie przybliżono podstawy techniki eye trackingu, zastosowanej w prezentowanych badaniach własnych, w tym takie podstawowe pojęcia, jak fiksacje i sakkady. Zasadnicza część to doniesienie z badań własnych, których celem było określenie skuteczności czytania krótkich treści naukowo-informacyjnych o różnej postaci prezentacji infograficznej z zakresu przyrody oraz porównanie przebiegu procesu poznawczego charakterystycznego dla wyszukiwania informacji przez uczniów z uszkodzonym słuchem z analogicznym, realizowanym przez równych im wiekiem, uczniów słyszących. Metodą badań był test. Badania przeprowadzone zostały techniką eye trackingu. Wyniki opracowano w dwóch formach: graficznej i liczbowej. Formy graficzne to: heat mapa, mapa cieplna pokazująca skupienie wzroku, poprzez to pośrednio uwagi badanego, oraz scan path, ścieżka patrzenia, która pokazuje następowanie po sobie fiksacji i sakkad, informuje o sposobie patrzenia. Wnioski z badań pokazały możliwości wykorzystania techniki eye trackingu do oceny aktywności poznawczej, w szczególności określenia, jaki układ informacji na infografice jest najlepiej dostosowany do możliwości uczniów z problemami słuchu i uruchamia u nich podobne strategie poznawcze jak u słyszących rówieśników, a więc powinien przeważać w podręcznikach przeznaczonych dla tej grupy uczniów.
    The introduction discusses the distinctive difficulties with reading comprehension of texts in school textbooks experienced by students with hearing impairments in the light of the literature on the subject. Then, the basics of eye tracking are outlined - a technique that was used in the author's research - including such fundamental terms as fixation and saccades. The main part of the article is a report on the author’s research whose aim was to determine the effectiveness of reading short educational texts in the field of science where different types of infographics were used, and to compare the cognitive process specific to information search in students with hearing impairments to the one in their hearing peers. A test was used as a research method. The research was conducted with the use of the eye tracking technique. Results were presented graphically and numerically. The graphical forms included: a heat map, i.e., a map showing a participant's visual fixation - and thus indirectly his or her focus of attention - and a scan path, which shows fixations and saccades following one another, thus revealing eye gaze behaviors. Conclusions from the research showed that the eye tracking technique could be used to assess a person’s cognitive activity, and in particular, to determine what information layout in an infographic is best suited to the abilities of students with hearing impairments and activates similar cognitive strategies in them to those in their hearing peers, and so should be prevalent in textbooks for this group of students.

    The paper outlines the origin, development, applications, and impact of conceptual scientific illustration, developed in the early 20th century by Fritz Kahn, a German gynecologist, publisher and popularizer of science. These illustrations explains how things work via concepts, metaphors and illusion. This is in contrast to the descriptive anatomical and natural illustrations of 19th-century paintings which show what things look like. The article presents the systematics of the main types of illustrations by F. Kahn and reflects on reception thereof.
