The aim of this article is to reflect on the role of social context and individual factors that influence the development of multilingual competence. The first part of the article deals with the analysis of the definition of the multi-lingual competence and its role in language teaching. The next part is the presentation of the relation between the social and educational context, taking into consideration students’ individual features and multilingual competence. The last part of the article consists of the analysis of the results of the research study conducted among Polish Junior High School students. The aim of the study was to establish the impact of different factors influencing learning French as the second language.

Celem niniejszego opracowania jest wskazanie wymiarów zatrudnialności oraz identyfi‑ kacja jej kluczowych determinant, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem czynników indywidu‑ alnych i organizacyjnych. W artykule omówiono ewolucję koncepcji zatrudnialności, od wariantu dychotomicznego do interaktywnego. Zaprezentowano problemy definicyjne związane z pojęciem zatrudnialności oraz scharakteryzowano różne wymiary zatrud‑ nialności. Ponadto, dokonano identyfikacji kluczowych determinant zatrudnialności, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem czynników indywidualnych i organizacyjnych. W artykule, wykorzystując metodę opisową, dokonano przeglądu literatury przedmiotu.
The purpose of this article is to identify the dimensions and key determinants of employability, with particular emphasis on individual factors. The article discusses the evolution of the concept of employability, from dichotomic to interactive employability. The paper presents definitional problems associated with the concept of employability and characterizes various dimensions of employability. Additionally, this article analyzes the key determinants of employability, with particular emphasis on individual factors. The article is a literature review. The author applied the descriptive method.
Целью этой разработки является представление масштаба трудоустройства и идентификация её основных детерминантов, с особым учётом индивидуальных факторов. В статье обсуждены вопросы эволюции трудоустройства, от дихотомического до интерактивного варианта. Кроме того, представлены проблемы,связанные с определением понятия трудоустройства и представлены разные вопросы, касающиеся трудоустройства. Кроме того, проведена идентификация основных детерминантов с особым учётом индивидуальных факторов. В статье применён описательный метод, а также проведён обзор литературы на эту тему.

In traditional classrooms, where students are evaluated on the basis of their actions, poor performance is closely linked to the lack of ability. Many students often see failure as a threat to their positive self-image and instead of increasing efforts, apply various ego-protective strategies to shift attention from real or hypothesized lack of ability to other factors influencing unsatisfactory production. In both cases self-worth is protected. This paper aims at performing a motivational analysis of two such strategies, i.e. self-handicapping and defensive pessimism used by secondary school students in achievement context.

This study aims to explain the indicators of human resource productivity management in Kerman executive agencies. It is a descriptive, correlational as well as a developmental study purposefully conducted as a survey in the field of human resources. The sample includes 30 experts in the field of management and administration. It was obtained by purposeful sampling method and included 524 employees of the Kerman executive agencies that were gathered by stratified sampling method. Two questionnaires were used by the experts to confirm the validity and reliability of the model and one questionnaire was used to answer the questions. The validity and reliability of all questionnaires were confirmed. AMOS and SPSS statistical software were used for data analysis. The 42 subscales of human resource productivity management are summarized in 5 factors (individual, organizational, complementary organizational, occupational, and extra-organizational). It is an applieddevelopmental study considering the simultaneous identification of factors related to human resource productivity in line with the development indicators and can be used by all executive agencies throughout Iran.

Opis:
Przedsiębiorczość indywidualna jest jednym z ważniejszych czynników rozwoju społeczno- gospodarczego regionów w rożnej skali układów przestrzennych oraz istotnym sposobem uelastyczniania rynku pracy. Studia specjalistycznej literatury jednoznacznie wskazują na istnienie wielu determinant wpływających na skłonność jednostki do samo zatrudnienia. Są to zarówno kwestie ekonomiczne (np. poziom rozwoju gospodarczego, sytuacja na rynku pracy, polityka fiskalna), jak i pozaekonomiczne (np. płeć, wiek, wykształcenie, stan cywilny, posiadanie dzieci, wcześniejsze doświadczenie na rynku pracy). Celem autorki artykułu jest dokonanie przeglądu krajowych i zagranicznych prac teoretycznych, poświęconych determinantom przedsiębiorczości indywidualnej, a także syntezy wyników badań, weryfikujących wpływ czynników pozaekonomicznych na poziom samozatrudnienia. Przeprowadzone badania literaturowe, dotyczące roli czynników ekonomicznych w podejmowaniu samozatrudnienia wskazują, że w ujęciu międzynarodowym jego poziom pozostaje przede wszystkim w ścisłym związku z wartością PKB. W grupie czynników pozaekonomicznych dowiedziono zaś znaczącego wpływu płci, wieku, stanu cywilnego oraz poziomu wykształcenia na skłonność do rozpoczęcia działalności gospodarczej.
Individual entrepreneurship is among the key factors of social and economic development of regions in various scales of spatial settings. It is also an important way of increasing the flexibility of the labor market. Specialist literature clearly shows that there is a multitude of determinants influencing an individual’s willingness to become self-employed. They include both economic factors (e.g. the level of economic development, labor market situation, fiscal policy) and non-economic ones (e.g. the person’s gender, age, education level, marital status, whether or not the person has children, the person’s previous experience on the labor market). This paper serves the following purposes: a review of Polish and foreign theoretical studies on the determinants of individual entrepreneurship; a synthesis of the findings of studies verifying the impact of non-economic factors on an individual’s decision to become self-employed. Literature studies on the economic factors’ role on individuals’ decision to become self-employed show that, internationally, the scale of self-employment is essentially in close correlation with the GDP. Among the non-economic factors, gender, age, marital status and education level have been demonstrated to significantly influence the willingness to start one’s own business.

In this qualitative study the author focuses on age effects on young learners’ L2 development by comparing the L2 learning processes of six young learners in an instructed setting: three who had started learning English as L2 at age 6/7 and three who had started at age 9/10. Both earlier and later young beginners were followed for three years (during their second, third and fourth year of learning English). The participants’ L2 development was measured through their oral output elicited by a two-part speaking task administered each year. Results of the analyses are interpreted taking into account each learners’ individual characteristics (learning ability, attitudes and motivation, self-concept) and the characteristics of the context in which they were learning their L2 (attitudes of school staff and parents to early L2 learning, home support, in-class and out-of-class exposure to L2, socio-economic status). The findings show that earlier and later young beginners follow different trajectories in their L2 learning, which reflects different interactions which age enters into with the other variables.

There is much controversy surrounding the influence of affect on for-eign language aptitude. In most foreign language aptitude models and tests this factor is treated marginally or it is entirely absent. In research studies, much attention is devoted to individual factors defined in the context of positive psychology, but their relationships with cognitive factors are rarely analyzed. This paper is an attempt to present the role of factors other than cognitive in foreign language aptitude theory and research, selected reasons for their weak position, as well as pedagogical implications and suggestions for further research.

Objective: The role of occupational hazards in occupational injury may be mediated by individual factors across various age groups. This study assessed the role of occupational hazards as well as contribution of individual factors to injuries among Indian and French coalminers. Material and Methods: We conducted a case-control study on 245 injured workers and on 330 controls without any injuries from Indian coal mines using face-to-face interviews, and a retrospective study on 516 French coalminers using a self-administered questionnaire including potential occupational and personal factors. Data were analyzed using logistic models. Results: The annual rate of injuries was 5.5% for Indian coalminers and 14.9% for the French ones. Logistic model including all occupational factors showed that major injury causes were: hand-tools, material handling, machines, and environment/work-geological/strata conditions among Indian miners (adjusted oddsratios 2.01 to 3.30) and biomechanical exposure score among French miners (adjusted odds-ratio 3.01 for score the 1-4, 3.47 for the score 5-7, and 7.26 for score ≥ 8, vs. score 0). Personal factors among Indian and French coalminers reduced/exacerbated the roles of various occupational hazards to a different extent depending on workers' age. Conclusion: We conclude that injury roles of occupational hazards were reduced or exacerbated by personal factors depending on workers' age in both populations. This knowledge is useful when designing prevention which should definitely consider workers' age.

Introduction. Workers of pellet production facilities (WPPF) are exposed to high concentrations of wood dust and microbial pollutants. Such stimulation may lead to numerous allergic and toxic reactions, infections, and other non-specific syndromes. Objective. To check the influence of individual traits of workers and characteristic features / factors of their living and working environments on the probability of adverse outcomes’ appearance. Materials and Method. The questionnaire study assessing adverse health effects resulting from individual exposure was conducted among 28 workers of 10 Polish WPPF. The logistic regression (for dichotomous variables) was used to determine the appearance probability (given as odds ratio) of adverse symptoms or diseases. Results and Conclusions. WPPF workers may have an increased risk of developing work-related adverse health outcomes. Both the individual traits and environmental exposure factors significantly influence the probability of their occurrence.

The study focuses on individual and standard visual display unit (VDU) workplaces with respect to performance and muscular load. Three different work settings were realized: The workplace was either adjusted to individual preferences or to the European standard. The third condition mirrored exactly the individual setting, however participants were told that it was set according to another standard. Dependent variables were visual performance in a search task, the rated muscular load, and individual preferences. Results show that both individual work settings yielded a superior performance as compared to the standard. However, performance and muscular comfort improved when participants knew they had adjusted the workplace. Apparently, VDU users follow a intuitive rationale adjusting their work setting minimizing muscular load and optimizing performance.

The article covers the broad problems of the scientific works of Maria P. Kotyurova – professor of Perm State University, the leader of Perm Scientific School of Functional stylistics. The bibliography of Maria P. Kotyurova includes 7 monographs, 15 textbooks, more than 300 articles, in which the main questions of stylistics of scientific speech, semantic structure of scientific text, legal linguistics and many others are put forward and solved. Special attention in the article is given to the analysis of the key notions of Prof. Kotyurova’s stylistic theory, which are now generally recognised and fundamentally important in functional stylistics. Among these notions are scientific text extra-linguistic factors, epistemic situation, reference scientific text, scientific speech culture, principles of scientific text editing, scientist speech individual style, etc. As the most important achievements of Prof. Kotyurova the author of the article considers: the model of scientific text semantic structure developed by Prof. Kotyurova (the model includes three components of scientific knowledge – ontological, methodological and axiological); description of the basic scientific text categories – coherence, integrity, wholeness, accuracy, density, etc.; justification of a multidisciplinary (complex) approach to scientific text study; and studying of stereotypes and creativity in scientist communicative activity. It is noted that M. Kotyurova is distinguished by the ability to see the non-obvious but fundamentally important properties in a scientific text. The dynamics of the research interest of Prof. Kotyrova, from classical functional stylistics to anthropocentric and discursive linguistics, are analyzed. The author of the article underlines that, while retaining a commitment to the ideas of her teacher – Prof. Margarita N. Kozhina, Maria P. Kotyrova at the same time is an innovator in the development of modern functional stylistics and the application of new approaches to research text. The fruitfulness of Prof. Maria P. Kotyurova ideas was confirmed by numerous works of her followers both in Russia and abroad.

States and individuals are the essential building blocks of international law. Normally, their identity seems to be solidly established. However, modern international law is widely permeated by the notion of freedom from natural or societal constraints. This notion, embodied for individuals in the concept of human rights, has enabled human beings to overcome most of the traditional ties of dependency and being subjected to dominant social powers. Beyond that, even the natural specificity of a human as determined by birth and gender is being widely challenged. The law has made fargoing concessions to this pressure. The right to leave one’s own country, including renouncing one’s original nationality, epitomizes the struggle for individual freedom. On the other hand, States generally do not act as oppressive powers but provide comprehensive protection to their nationals. Stateless persons live in a status of precarious insecurity. All efforts should be supported which are aimed at doing away with statelessness or nonrecognition as a human person through the refusal to issue identity documents. Disputes about the collective identity of States also contain two different aspects. On the one hand, disintegrative tendencies manifest themselves through demands for separate statehood by minority groups. Such secession movements, as currently reflected above all in the Spanish province of Catalonia, have no basis in international law except for situations where a group suffers grave structural discrimination (remedial secession). As the common homeland of its citizens, every State also has the right to take care of its sociological identity. Many controversies focus on the distinction between citizens and aliens. This distinction is well rooted in domestic and international law. Changes in that regard cannot be made lightly. At the universal level international law has not given birth to a right to be granted asylum. At the regional level, the European Union has put into force an extremely generous system that provides a right of asylum not only to persons persecuted individually, but also affords “subsidiary protection” to persons in danger of being harmed by military hostilities. It is open to doubt whether the EU institutions have the competence to assign quotas of refugees to individual Member States. The relevant judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union of 6 September 2017 was hasty and avoided the core issue: the compatibility of such decisions with the guarantee of national identity established under Article 4(2) of the EU Treaty.
