Opis:
Nickel superalloys as Inconel® are materials widely used in the aerospace industry among others for diffusers, combustion chamber, shells of gas generators and other. In most cases, manufacturing process of those parts are used metal strips, produced by conventional plastic processing techniques, and thus by hot or cold rolling. An alternative technology allowing for manufacturing components for jet engines is the technique of 3D printing (additive manufacturing), and most of all Direct Metal Laser Sintering, which is one of the latest achievement in field of additive technologies. The paper presents a comparative analysis of the microstructure and mechanical properties of the alloy Inconel®718 manufactured by plastic working and Direct Metal Laser Sintering technology, in the initial state, after deformation and after heat treatment.

Opis:
First part of the article describes how we can by change of gating system achieve better homogeneity of product made by investment casting. Turbine engine flap was made by investment casting technology – lost wax casting. The casting process was realised in vacuum. The initial conditions (with critical occurrence of porosity) was simulated in ProCAST software. Numerical simulation can clarify during analysis of melt turbulent flow in gate system responsible for creation of entrained oxide films. After initial results and conclusions, the new gating system was created with subsequent turbulence analysis. The new design of gating system support direct flow of metal and a decrease of porosity values in observed areas was achieved. Samples taken from a casting produced with use of newly designed gating system was processed and prepared for metallography. The second part of article deals with identification of structural components in used alloy - Inconel 718. The Ni – base superalloys, which are combined unique physical and mechanical properties, are used in aircraft industry for production of aero engine most stressed parts, as are turbine blades.

This article presents the research results of roughness and topography of the surface of Inconel 718 nickel alloy after shot peening. The evaluation of stereometric properties of the surface layer of the examined material was performed based on the amplitude, height and Abbott-Firestone curve parameters. The shot peening was carried out on the impulse shot peening stand. The impact energy Ez, distance between the traces xs and the ball diameter dk were changed in the range: Ez = 60 ÷ 240 mJ, xs = 0,15 ÷ 0,5 mm, dk = 3,95 ÷ 12,45 mm. The T8000 RC 120-140 device of the Hommel-Etamic company, along with the software, was used for measuring the surface roughness and for determining the material bearing curve. As a result of the machining, the surface roughness was reduced and the selected functional parameters were improved.

Opis:
Inconel 718 is a precipitation hardenable nickel-iron based superalloy. It has exceptionally high strength and ductility compared to other metallic materials. This is due to intense precipitation of the γ’ and γ” strengthening phases in the temperature range 650-850°C. The main purpose of the authors was to analyze the aging process in Inconel 718 obtained in accordance with AMS 5596, and its effect on the mechanical properties. Tensile and hardness tests were used to evaluate the mechanical properties, in the initial aging process and after reheating, as a function of temperature and time respectively in the ranges 650°-900°C and 5-480 min. In addition, to link the mechanical properties with the microstructure transmission microscopy observations were carried out in selected specimens. As a result, factors influencing the microstructure changes at various stages of strengthening were observed. The authors found that the γ’’ phase nucleates mostly homogenously in the temperature range 650-750°C, causing the greatest increase in strength. On the other hand, the γ’ and δ phases are formed heterogeneously at 850°C or after longer annealing in 800°C, which may weaken the material.

Opis:
This paper presents the results of the quantitative evaluation of the degree of damage caused by plastic strain accumulated in static tensile tests and creep tests. To detect changes in the structure of the material and in order to determine the degradation of the materials, nondestructive methods were used, namely the ultrasonic and eddy current methods. In ultrasonic testing, attenuation and acoustic birefringence were used as damage indicators. In the case of the eddy current method, changes in the phase angle of impedance were observed in the material. The material tested was Inconel 718 alloy. Inconel alloys are often find application in extreme working conditions including in the power engineering industry, aviation and aerospace. A new type of specimen with the variable cross-sectional area of the measuring part was used in the tests. This allowed researchers to obtain a continuous distribution of plastic strain and enabled analysis of the material with respect to different damage degrees. The correlation between the degree of damage, expressed by the measure of deformation, and the value of nondestructive indicators was determined. On the basis of it, the dependence indicating the ability to nondestructive evaluation of the degradation degree of the material, subjected to loads exceeding the yield limit was obtained.

Opis:
The article presents the test results of thermal efficiency of the welded thin heatresistant sheets of Inconel 718 nickel alloys using the Trudisk 4002 instalated in the TruLaser 5020 equipment. The thermal efficiency of the laser was determined using a water-cooled calorimeter. Thin sheet metal samples 0,7 and 0,9 mm, installed in the calorimeter were subjected to a laser beam with the power of 400 to 700 W, moved along the line at a constant speed Vs = 25 mm/s. The thermal efficiency was calculated as the quotient of the heat absorber by the welded sheets, determined calorimetrically, to the total amount of heat generated by the laser. The results show that thermal efficiency depends non-linearly on the laser power. The thickness of the plates to be welded does not affect efficiency. As the power of the laser increases from 400 to 600 W, thermal efficiency decreases three times from 21% to 7%, and with the increase of its power to 700 W, thermal efficiency increases to 28%.

Opis:
The object of the present investigation was Inconel 718 alloy. The material in the initial state and after forging at the temperatures of 1100°C and 1000°C was examined. Diffraction analyses indicate that a nickel-based γ solid solution is a dominating phase in the alloy (so-called nickel austenite). Apart from a solid solution, which constitutes the matrix, certain volume fractions of the other phase were detected e.g. δ phase and carbides. It was found that, due to thermo-mechanical-treatment at both temperatures, the phase composition of Inconel 718 was considerably changed in comparison to the initial state. On the contrary, differences in the temperature of forging did not significantly influence the alloy constitution. However, both of the temperatures of forging result in distinct texture intensity. Microstructure observations indicate that forging at 1000C° led to recrystallization by creation of the new recrystallizated grains near or on the grain boundaries of existing deformed grains. After forging at 1100°C, the microstructure was fully recrystallized at the whole volume of the material.

Opis:
The properties of Iconel 718 determine its application for parts operating in extremely tough conditions. The difficulties when machining nickel-based superalloys allowed in recent years for researching other machining methods. One of the proposed methods is Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (WEDM). It becomes possible to minimize or eliminate such problems associated with electrical discharge machining as microcracks, forming of a white layer, or high surface roughness. One way to avoid these issues is to apply finishing machining. The literature indicates that the peak current is the main parameter responsible for shaping the machined surface in finishing WEDM. Furthermore, few works focus on the electrode’s infeed, in particular there are not many papers regarding the influence of the infeed on the machined surface parameters. Therefore, the paper aims to investigate on the influence of the peak current and infeed during finishing WEDM on the surface properties of Inconel 718. The paper presents measurements of selected surface topography parameters and Abbot Firestone curves (AFC). The presented plots allowed to determine the ranges of the process parameters for which the lowest surface roughness values were achieved. Cross-sections were performed to measure the thickness of a white layer. Nanohardness HV0,01 measured by Berkovich tip was recorded to determine the size of a heat affected zone (HAZ). The correlation between the peak current Ic and the infeed z regarding the machined surface quality was presented.

Opis:
Structural properties of materials change under stress, temperature and work environment. These changes are generally unfavorable. They cause a reduction in strength of materials. This has an impact on the safety and service life of machines and constructions. In the chemical and petrochemical industry the destruction of a structure can be activated by chemical substances. In the energy industry, a key element in assisting the destruction is temperature. In aviation, the typical cause of damage is the process of fatigue. Regardless of the differences regarding/concerning the mechanisms of degradation, typical of the sectors of industry, the end result is the emergence of microvoids and microcracks in the material. In the final phase of the process, dominant cracks are formed. The term of measure of material damage, introduced by Kachanov and Rabotnow, can be effectively used also when considering the impact of microdamages on measurable macroscopic acoustic quantities. A damage parameter proposed by Johnson allows to correlate changes in acoustic birefringence of the material with the parameter describing the degree of damage. In this article the authors presented the nondestructive tests results concerning Inconel 718 alloy subjected to damage caused by plastic deformation. This paper focuses on the evaluation of acoustic properties in relation to the degradation of the materials tested.

Opis:
This work deals with the problem of X-ray stress determination on the samples dedicated to fatigue tests. A number of research studies point out the fact that the processing of hard, difficult to machine materials like nickel superalloys, reveals more than one trend of residual stress versus working parameters of behaviour (Lavella and Berruti, 2010). Many papers have shown that the residual stresses are dependent on a combination of a number of factors. When the above is taken into account simultaneously with the requirements of the internal General Electric specification for the fatigue tests samples preparation (Metallic test specimen preparation, low stress, 2017) the problem of turning and grinding parameters gathers significance. It is well known that the quality of the surface layer, produced during machining, is of vital importance for the fatigue life specially for the components of aircraft produced form nickel superalloys e.g. Inconel 718 (Kortabarri et al., 2011). That is why the surface layer’s properties are described in detail by the standards. The aim of the work is to determine one of the most influential features from the point of view of fatigue life, i.e. the stress state on the surface layer with one non-destructive method - the diffraction analysis.

Opis:
Changes in the microstructure of Inconel 718 resulting from hot forging were investigated in this work. Axisymmetrical forging characterized by the areas of different forging reduction ratios was subjected to the analysis. The investigated alloy was forged under various thermomechanical conditions. Two forging modes, differing by the geometry and the temperature of the billet were performed in industrial conditions. It was revealed, that the microstructure of the alloy after forging was in the solutionized condition with different levels of recrystallization determining the differences in the grain size. Moreover, numerous simulations of the analyzed forging process taking into account variable thermomechanical conditions were performed using QForm 3D v. 5.1 software. The results of the simulations were compared with the results of forging the investigated alloy in industrial conditions. These results showed to be in very good agreement with the experimental observations. The changes in the microstructure of the investigated alloy forging were also compared with the results of the performed simulations. This study allowed determining both the influence of chosen thermomechanical parameters on recrystallization process in hot forged Inconel 718 alloy as well as the possibility of obtaining good quality forgings with uniform microstructure out of this alloy.
