Opis:
Flow control inside the aviation landing gear shock absorbers is nowadays performed by fixed orifices or by the half-active spring based valves located inside of the device. All of the mentioned solutions are optimized on limited, mostly to one, landing scenarios due to their non-adjustable nature (even spring based valves are treated as passive due to their lack of actual real-time controllability). The easiest way of full hydraulic fluid flow control is to mount in its way a valve, which is able to seamlessly open and close causing the flow to change in wide range. Unfortunately, most of the used solutions are too large or not fast enough to fit the shock absorber requirements. The most promising way is to design tailor-made valve based on a piezo crystal actuator, which is most suitable due to its size and speed. Such a design has been made and tested by the engineers of the Institute of Aviation in Warsaw in Landing Gear Laboratory. In this article, the author describes test campaign of the hydraulic piezo-valve. Several tests have been made in order to assess the design correctness and to determine the basic parameters of the valve. Achieved results, presented in this article, show the full functionality of the solution in laboratory tests according to the design assumptions [8].

The following paper describes the effect of the introduced vibration isolation on the operation of a hydraulic valve. The method of transmitting the external force to the valve control element and examples of vibration sources are presented. The balance of forces acting on the valve spool and the flow intensity in the tested hydraulic system are determined. The assumptions are simplified and discussed in detail. On their basis, numerical simulations have been carried out and verified by experimental tests. The paper ends with brief conclusions.

W artykule przedstawiono rozważania teoretyczne oraz wyniki badań eksperymentalnych związanych ze spadkiem ciśnienia w komorach zamkniętych testowanymi pod kątem szczelności zaworami hydraulicznymi. Zauważono znaczne rozbieżności pomiędzy wynikami otrzymanymi dla modelu matematycznego, w którym założono stałą wartość modułu sprężystości objętościowej cieczy hydraulicznej, a rezultatami badań eksperymentalnych.
The article presents theoretical considerations and the results of experimental tests related to the pressure drop speed in closed chambers by hydraulic valves tested for leaks. A significant discrepancy was observed between the results obtained for a mathematical model in which a constant value of the bulk modulus of the hydraulic fluid against the results of experimental studies was assumed. Trying to explain the discrepancies observed, a new mathematical model was created describing the pressure in the chamber closed by a leaking valve, containing a liquid with a bulk modulus linearly dependent of pressure. The simulation results using a modified mathematical model approached the results of experimental tests for very large differences between the values of the bulk modulus of the liquid at low and high pressure, which is characteristic for aerated liquids (containing bubbles of insoluble air). In addition to valve leak testing, the article proposes the use of a method for measuring the pressure drop speed to determine the replacement bulk modulus of hydraulic fluids and to estimate their aeration level.

: This paper describes the engineering structure and functions of a typical solenoid valve used in hydraulic mechanisms that are based on variable camshaft timing (VCT). The main operating parameters and functional utility coefficients of hydraulic solenoid valves have been defined. Tests of 10 reference and 10 prototype valves were run on a test stand for a comparative assessment of both engineering concepts based on Welch and Mann–Whitney statistical tests of the mean values of designated coefficients. The studies identified differences between both designs, and the obtained research material was used as an input to improve the performance of the engineered concept. To perform a final evaluation of the effects that arise as a result of changes introduced to some functional–operational coefficients, additional tests are required to be run on an engine testbed. The applied test methodology may then be used for control and verification tests of the valves, which can further be used in VCT technology.

This paper shows motion properties of hydraulically actuated engine valve train. The experimental model of the hydraulic valve drive is to be presented in this paper. It consists of parts: engine valve, hydraulic actuator and electric control hydraulic distributor, which control the flow of supply oil to the hydraulic actuator. It is hydraulic single-acting drive for valves of internal combustion engines. The methodology of the experimental research is to be explained. The measurements of the valve movement for the different supply pressures and for different opening distributor times were realized in this research. The recorded valve motion was base to detail analysis of velocity and acceleration of the engine valve motion. The researches show possibility of short opening time for typical valve of the high-speed internat combustion engine. Called attention to high speed and stroke against seat, while valve is closing. Especially called attention to possibility to formatting of the course of the valve lift. It may be used for better load exchange in internal combustion engines. The paper points out on the power supply of the system with the working pressure about 15 MPa what gives: smaller delay movement of the timing valve, quicker its opening, and also the large value of stroke of the timing valve.

Zaprezentowano model doświadczalny składający się z zaworu rozrządu, siłownika hydraulicznego i rozdzielacza sterującego przepływem oleju zasilającego siłownik hydrauliczny. Jest to model hydraulicznego napędu zaworu jednostronnego działania. Uzasadniono przyjętą metodykę badań oraz przeprowadzono pomiary przebiegów wzniosu zaworu przy różnych wartościach ciśnień zasilających siłownik hydrauliczny i różnych czasach otwarcia rozdzielacza. W oparciu o zarejestrowane przebiegi wzniosów zaworu przeprowadzono szczegółową analizę prędkości i przyspieszeń zaworu.

This paper is focused on model analysis of hydraulic valves. An example of model which determine static and dynamic properties of pressure relief valve was presented. In the first step a mathematical model of pressure relief valve, consisted of flow equations and equations of motion of globe, was prepared. In the next step the mathematical model was transformed into numerical one in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. Static properties of the valve were obtained by numerical analysis for slow changes of flow rate through the valve. The analysis of dynamic properties was based on determining the valve response to a step function (e.g. flow rate). The results of model research can be used in the optimization of in the hydraulic valve design.

Opis:
Hydroacoustic projectors are useful for generating low frequency sounds in water. Existing works on hydroacoustic projectors require two significant enhancements, especially for designers. First, we need to understand the influence of important projector design parameters on its performance. Such insights can be very useful in developing a compact and efficient projector. Second, there is a need for an integrated model of the projector based on easily available and user-friendly numerical tools which do not require development of complex customised mathematical analogs of projector components. The present work addresses both such needs. Towards these goals, an experimentally validated, easy-to-build projector model was developed and used to conduct design sensitivity studies. We show that reductions in pipe compliance and air content in oil, and an increase in orifice discharge coefficient can yield remarkable improvements in projector’s SPL. We also show that reductions in pipe length and cylinder diameter cause moderate improvements in performance in mass and stiffness controlled regions, respectively. In contrast, the projector performance is insensitive to changes in pistonic mass, cylinder length, and diaphragm stiffness. Finally, we report that while pipe compliance and air content in oil can sharply alter system resonance, the effects of changes in pipe length and pistonic mass on it are moderate in nature.

In order for the working status of the aluminum alloyed hydraulic valve body to be controlled in actual conditions, a new friction and wear design device was designed for the cast iron and aluminum alloyed valve bodies comparison under the same conditions. The results displayed that: (1) The oil leakage of the aluminum alloyed hydraulic valve body was higher than the corresponding oil leakage of the iron body during the initial running stage. Besides during a later running stage, the oil leakage of the aluminum alloyed body was lower than corresponding oil leakage of the iron body; (2) The actual oil leakage of different materials consisted of two parts: the foundation leakage that was the leakage of the valve without wear and wear leakage that was caused by the worn valve body; (3) The aluminum alloyed valve could rely on the dust filling furrow and melting mechanism that led the body surface to retain dynamic balance, resulting in the valve leakage preservation at a low level. The aluminum alloy modified valve body can meet the requirements of hydraulic leakage under pressure, possibly constituting this alloy suitable for hydraulic valve body manufacturing.

Opis:
A common problem encountered in hydraulic valves is a progressing deterioration of tightness of their water flow cutting-off seats. The seats are provided usually with a copper-alloy insert joined mechanically with cast-iron valve housing. The problem of unreliability of such joints can be solved by providing surface of the seat with a coating, deposited with the use of HVOF method and resistant to abrasive and cavitation wear. The tests were carried out for a sealing-draining seat insert made of CuZn39Pb2Al brass used to date and a specimen taken from the cast-iron valve housing which was the substrate for a plasma-sprayed coating of powder containing 86.1% Cr, 7.2% Ni, and 6.7% C. The coating, 345 ± 15 μm thick, was characterized with good quality of bonding with cast-iron substrate and high compactness of the material. The cavitation wear test on materials used in the study were carried out with the use of Vibra-Cell ultrasonic liquid processor (Sonics) equipped with a piezoelectric probe operating at the frequency of 20 kHz. Based on profilograms taken along a line crossing centers of cavitation craters, measurements of the height parameter Rt, and microscopic observations of surfaces it has been found that the coating plasma-sprayed onto substrate of nodular cast iron demonstrated higher resistance to cavitation compared to copper-alloy inserts used so far in cast-iron hydraulic valves. Cavitation craters on the material used typically for valve seats to date were more distinctly outlined and deeper compared to craters observed on the coating. Larger were also sizes of local tear-outs which resulted in larger difference between the peaks line and the valleys line.

Dynamic parameters characterizing proportional hydraulic components are essential factors affecting the performance of the construction machinery automatic control system. Knowledge of these parameters is inevitable in modelling the automatically controlled hydraulic power systems as well as designing and analysing the control algorithms. This article presents a methodology of assessing the dynamic parameters of selected components being part of digitally controlled hydraulic power system. The analysed system comprised a typical for mobile hydraulics applications PVG32 proportional directional control valve (DCV) and a variable displacement piston pump. The control system utilised an MC088 PLC controller with specifically prepared and configured software. The measuring system was based on CANbus, which, combined with the PLC used, allowed for flexible configuration of the sensor variables and logging both analogue and digital signals. Among others, the DCV characteristics, the response to step and sinusoidal inputs and DCV hysteresis were examined. The goal was to gather the data required for system modelling and to assess the importance and influence of the investigated parameters onto the model being created.

In order to identify the influence of different Mn, Cd, V and Zr content on the properties of Al-Cu casting alloys in hydraulic valves, orthogonal test methods were used to prepare alloy test bars with different elements and contents. Tensile tests were performed on the test bars so obtained. The microstructure of alloys with different compositions is studied. The results show that adding approximately 0.4% of Mn can not only form a strengthening phase but also reduce the excessive segregation of the matrix along the grain boundary. A Cd content of 0.2% can promote the formation of micro Cd spheres in the softer aluminum matrix. Hard spots increase the wear resistance of the material; however, an excess of Cd will cause element segregation and deteriorate the mechanical properties of the valve body. Zr and V refine the grains in the alloy; however, an excess of these elements will lead to a large area of segregation. If proper heat treatment is lacking, the mechanical properties of the valve body deteriorate.

In this study, several types of valves were used to study the impact of the valves types and closure characteristics on fluid transients. The valve closure curves, which are the variation of the effective valve opening as a function of percentage opening area, were derived for different selected valves. Six different types of valves were selected to study the effect of the valves types on fluid transient conditions. For simplification, a very simple pipeline system was assumed and presented in this study. The system is about two pipes connected in a series junction and they take the water from a constant-level reservoir at upstream and a valve at downstream. The duration of valve closure was taken as six seconds which plays an important role in the pressure development in the system. A method of characteristics is applied to compute the transient conditions under gradual closure of the valves. Valve data of various forms were compiled and reported as discharge and headloss coefficients as a function of valve opening. The effect of valve geometry and operation on the relative valve opening were compared. Discharge and headloss coefficients were also compared between valve types. The study concluded that transient conditions depend on the valve type. The comparison between the results of all valve types indicated that the changes in pressure and discharges depend on valve type where there is a difference in effective valve opening. It can be concluded that the valve with the highest value of valve effective opening has less effect on transient conditions, i.e., the faster changes of effective valve opening the larger the effect on transient conditions (discharge and the greater the magnitude of the pressure wave). This study would help to select the property valve in pipeline design.

More than 4.6 mln ha in the Russian Federation are irrigated. Their culvert hydraulic structures are part of network structures and are the most widespread. After the crisis of the 1990s, proper maintenance of many reclamation systems was impossible due to a lack of funds. This led to the loss of about half of the water taken from irrigation sources in irrigation canals. The planned increase in the technical level of irrigation systems requires the automation of the operation of both the entire system as a whole and separately located culverts. This will avoid significant losses of water supply for irrigation and prevent water shortages with the insufficient discipline of water users. Means of hydraulic automation of water supply are being installed on small irrigation canals in Russia. A water flow regulating valve is proposed, with no mechanical movinparts, and gates are not involved in the control process. The operation of the structure is based on the injection effect, in which excess water entering the downstream with a decrease in water consumption begins to circulate between the outlet section of the transit pipe and the diffuser at the end section of the valve. Using the methods of measuring hydrodynamics and the theory of jet devices, theoretical dependences were obtained, which make it possible to determine the main hydraulic characteristics of the structure. The design form of the flow part of the regulator has been developed and a physical model has been made. In a mirror hydraulic flume, the operation modes of the water outlet were studied with and without regulation. The actual values of hydraulic parameters were obtained, which confirmed the validity of the use of theoretical dependencies. The discrepancy between the theoretical and experimental results is within the experimental error. It has been proven that it is possible to circulate excess water between the downstream and intermediate pools of the regulator.

The paper presents a conception and mathematical model of the hydraulic valve timing system. It describes the complex physical phenomena that occur between system components and the hydraulic liquid. Basing on postulates and initial conditions model, one was simulated the movement of elements system resulting from the flow of pressured liquid. The model was simulated in Matlab/Simulink program for different geometrical parameters of the hydraulic system and electric control parameters in order to obtain required lift and timing of valves in YARIS SI 1.3 l engine. The paper presents structure of Simulink model and results of calculation in Simulink. One represented the influence of various parameters and dimensions system on the character of valve lift. The relationship between the diameter of the rod and the liquid significantly affects the valve time-area parameter. The feeding liquid pressure in the system and the re-steering time have the biggest influence on course of valve lift. After preliminary tests the guidelines for the hydraulic valve timing system have been developed. The determined simulation results in Simulink were used to calculate of the device work in the engine computer model created in GT-Power program. The proposed solution was compared with the cam valve timing systems. On the basis of the simulations tests show a big superiority of the hydraulic valve timing system at higher rotational speeds.
