    The paper discusses the mathematical model of thermal comfort in the hyperbaric facility. Based on human thermal balance and thermal comfort conditions the comfort equation for the hyperbaric environment was derived. The comfort equation enables to calculate all those combinations of the diver’s activity, clothing (thermal insulation, moisture permeation factor) and environmental variables (temperature, pressure, composition, relative humidity and velocity of the breathing gas and mean radiant temperature), which would create thermal comfort in the hyperbaric environment. The paper presents also the solution of thermal comfort equation for dives up to the depth of g = 590 m, with helium-oxygen and hydrogen-oxygen breathing mixture, as well as the comfort diagrams.

    Opis:
    During the last century about 100 indices were developed to assess influences of the atmosphere on human being. However, most of them have not close relationships with physiological reactions in man. In 1999 International Society of Biometeorology established special study group do develop new Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI). Since 2005 these efforts have been reinforced by the COST Action 730 (Cooperation in Science and Technical Development). In February 2009 the Action was terminated and UTCI was developed. The new UTCI index represents air temperature of the reference condition with the same physiological response as the actual condition. The index base on Fiala model that is one of the most advanced multi-node thermophysiological models and include the capability to predict both whole body thermal effects (hypothermia and hyperthermia; heat and cold discomfort), and local effects (facial, hands and feet cooling and frostbite). The model consists of two interacting systems: the controlling active system; and the controlled passive system. The assessment scale of UTCI bases on the intensity of objective physiological reactions to environmental heat stress in wide range of weather and climates. The index can be applicable in various research, for example in weather forecasts, bioclimatological assessments, bioclimatic mapping in all scales (from micro to macro), urban design, engineering of outdoor spaces, consultancy for where to live, outdoor recreation and climatotherapy, epidemiology and climate impact research. The paper presents thermophysiological principles of UTCI as well as some examples of its application to assess bioclimatic differentiation of Europe.

    Artykuł prezentuje wyniki terenowych badań bioklimatyczno-fizjologicznych bilansu cieplnego człowieka oraz niektórych parametrów fizjologicznych organizmu w warunkach zimowych w strefie klimatu polar-nego północnej Finlandii. W trakcie badań obserwowano tempo ochładzania się temperatury twarzy oraz warunki zachowania równowagi cieplnej organizmu podczas długotrwałej ekspozycji terenowej.
    The paper presents some results of field experiment dealing with physiological adaptation to cold in arctic climate. The bioclimatic-and-physiological measurements were carried out in February 2008 in Saariselka in northern Finland. The research are the part of COST 730 Action “Towards a universal thermal climate index UTCI for assessing the thermal environment of the human being”. We have observed face cooling during long cold exposure when standing and during walking. Whole body heat balance, adaptation processes and thermal sensations were also studied. The results show great effectiveness of cold adaptation processes. Both, physiological responses of an organism (e.g. shivering) and behavioural thermal regulation (activity, clothing) help to keep homeothermy. Some risk of local skin cooling that can lead to frostbite was observed at non covered face after 20 minute exposure in –12°C and wind speed of 12-20 m/s.

W pracy przedstawiono równie wykresy i-t, sporzadzone w układzie entalpia własciwa mieszaniny NEOX-75 - temperatura bezwzgledna mieszaniny oraz wykresy i-X , sporzadzone w układzie entalpia własciwa mieszaniny - stopien zawilenia mieszaniny. Przestawione wykresy maja istotne znaczenie przy analizie warunków mikroklimatu w srodowisku hiperbarycznym.
    The paper discusses physical properties of oxygen-neon-helium gas mixtures, thermal comfort and humidity charts for NEOX-75. Regression functions describing physical properties of NEOX-75 were developed and used to determine the range of environmental temperatures necessary to maintain thermal comfort in NEOX-75 during simulated saturation dives up to the depth of 190m. Humidity charts for NEOX-75 have been developed and presented as well.

    Changes in security environment after the end of Cold War and 9/11 have strongly affected our security concepts and paradigms. In the field of counter-terrorism, a serious conceptual and practical debate on the relationship between security and human rights and freedoms has begun. The goal of this paper is to reflect on this complex relationship at the conceptual level and introduce the empirical debate on this relationship in the field of civil aviation (case of introducing body scanners). The paper’s results show that the concept of human security usefully integrates the care for human rights and security of individuals. The debate on the potential introduction of body scanners on the European airports was actually a debate on the ways of providing individual human security on the airports with simultaneous concern for other human rights. The output of this debate was a compromise: body scanners can be used at the discretion of individual airports and member states, but are not an obligatory measure on all European airports.

    In the article the author made an attempt to clarify the concept: the world of values and brought into the focus that it is built from the earliest years of our life. The inner desire of parents is that their offspring becomes people with strong moral backbone and that they live in the world in which values exist. She noticed that on the publishing market there are many publication of educational literature for children and young people, as well as literature for researchers involved in the study of this issue. She has also taken the problem of balance disorders in the education process into consideration, which are the result of living in a family without the world of values. At the end she stated that the basis for the reconstruction of the world of values, and thus taking further steps on the stages of human development in different areas of life is the recognition that paramount value is love.

    Purpose: Head constitutes 6% of our body weight and significantly influences human body motor system mechanics. From physiological point of view, it should be located at extension of body middle line. Its location being modified results in many consequences in motor system. Our research was aimed at assessing the influence of head position on human body balance stabilographic variables. Methods: The research was made on a group of 62 patients: 45 women and 17 men, aged from 40 to 60 yrs, 46 yrs on average. Head position in sagittal and frontal plane was assessed with photogrammetric method. Chosen stability parameters were estimated with dynamometric platform PEL 38 and computer software TWIN 99. Results: The results confirmed correlations between existing stabilographic values and head position in frontal plane only. Head position, when changed in this plane, increased the amplitude ( p = 0.001) and average speed of body gravity center trembilng ( p = 0.002). There were no significant relations found in sagittal plane ( p > 0.05). Conclusions: Our results show that the head position influences stabilographic variables. Its change in frontal plane decreases body posture stability to the largest extent.

    The process of engaging employees in their workplace is perceived to be a foundation of the human resources process. From the point of view of the organization, the mechanism of finding new employees, as well as keeping the existing ones is highly important. Employers start to notice the potential of human forces and learn how to improve their value. One of the most popular form of investing in the employees is the “work-life balance program”. The aim of the article is to present the matter of the programs as a tool of stimulating their influence on both – personal and organizational life of the employees.
    U podstaw optymalnego zarządzania siłami roboczymi leży umiejętność angażowania jednostek ludzkich w wykonywaną pracę. Z perspek-tywy zarządzania zasobami ludzkimi priorytetowe znaczenie ma nie tylko pozyskiwanie nowych pracowników, ale przede wszystkim utrzymywanie i zachowanie obecnych. Pracodawcy, dostrzegając w pracowniku potencjał oraz wachlarz potencjalnych korzyści dla organizacji, inwestują w ich wartość. Jedną z najczęściej stosowanych form inwestycji jest wdrażanie programów praca-życie. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie istoty programów „work-life balance” jako narzędzia programującego rozwój oraz ich wpływu na życie zawodowe i pozazawodowe, jednostki.

    The author reflects on the possibility of implementing the idea of sustainable development in the environment of human life in various areas and between them. He begins by answering the question what is the human living environment, presents the typology of the areas that make up this environment and indicates the role of human in destroying it. Then, he analyzes selected pairs of areas of the human living environment that are opposite to each other (genuine – artificial, external – internal, natural – social, real – virtual, as well as local – global) because of the possibility of maintaining a balance within them and between them. The balance is a prerequisite for effective implementation of the idea of sustainable development. Finally, he made several conclusions resulting from his reflection.
    Autor zastanawia się nad możliwością realizacji idei zrównoważonego rozwoju w środowisku życia człowieka w różnych obszarach i między nimi. Zaczyna od odpowiedzi na pytanie, czym jest ludzkie środowisko życia, przedstawia typologię obszarów tworzących to środowisko i wskazuje na rolę człowieka w jego niszczeniu. Następnie analizuje wybrane pary obszarów ludzkiego środowiska życia, które są przeciwstawne sobie (naturalne – sztuczne, zewnętrzne – wewnętrzne, przyrodnicze – społeczne, realne – wirtualne, a także lokalne – globalne) ze względu na możliwość utrzymania równowagi w nich i między nimi. Równowaga jest warunkiem koniecznym dla skutecznego wdrażania idei rozwoju zrównoważonego. Na koniec wyciągnął kilka wniosków wynikających z tej refleksji.

    Opis:
    Estuaries are transition zones between the land and the sea which form aquatic ecosystems, often referred to as marginal filters. Numerous classifications of estuaries are based on such criteria as: geomorphological structure, the character of water circulation and stratification, the ratio between freshwater and marine water and the type of energy flow. However, not all estuaries fall into one of the above categories. Some of them represent an intermediate type, while the type of others may change depending on the season and related changes in water inflow rate. Fisheries, including bi-valve mollusks, depend on the high productivity of estuarine areas, which can be also used as ports or sites of recreation and industrial activities. Estuaries play a fundamental role in maintaining an ecological balance in the biosphere.
    Estuaria to tereny przejściowe pomiędzy lądem a morzem, które tworzą wodne ekosystemy, często nazywane „filtrami brzeżnymi”. Liczne klasyfikacje estuariów oparte są na takich kryteriach, jak: struktura geomorfologiczna, charakter cyrkulacji i stratyfikacji wód, stosunek dopływających wód słodkich do morskich oraz typ przepływu energii. Nie wszystkie estuaria można zaliczyć do jednej z przedstawionych kategorii. Niektóre z nich stanowią typy pośrednie, inne zmieniają typ z jednego w drugi, w zależności od pór roku i związanych z tym zmian tempa napływu wód. Wielka produktywność estuariów może być wykorzystana przez człowieka do produkcji żywności w formie hodowli ostryg, małży i rybołówstwa; mogą służyć jako porty, rejony rekreacyjne i ośrodki przemysłowe; mają również ogromne znaczenie ekologiczne dla zachowania równowagi w biosferze.
