Opis:
This paper presents a method which makes it possible to determine optimum hull form of passenger car ferry with regard to selected sea-keeping qualities and additional resistance in waves. In the first phase of investigations a hull form characterized by the highest qualities was selected from the list of similar ships. Next, its optimum dimension ratios were determined. Design criteria were formulated by using a method based on deterministic scenarios, but objective functions of partial targets were determined in the form of artificial neural networks. To select the best design variants elements of fuzzy logic were used, that made it possible a.o. to show merits of the design by means of linguistic variables. Such approach made it possible to find the best hull form and its dimensions from the point of view of all considered criteria simultaneously.

The paper presents approximations of added wave resistance useful in the early stage of designing ro-ro ferries. Reference added wave resistance values were calculated by means of SEAWAY software based on accurate numerical methods. Approximating function was elaborated by using the artificial neural networks. The model values were calculated by means of 448 ferry shape variants assuming conventional waving parameters and ferry movement parameters. Such approach permitted the replacement of the complicated numerical model with a simple analytical model based on basic hull shape parameters.

This paper presents the results of a numerical analysis of military vehicles hulls mine resistance. The research concerns armours loaded with blast wave from large IED charges in three cases. First is an explosion in Euler domain without any boundary conditions. Second consists of Euler domain with flat bottom and the ground. Third is simulated Euler domain with ground and deflector. Boundary conditions used both in second and third case resulted in growth of the pressure impulse due to the reflection from a rigid obstacle. In the article different hull bottom shapes are compared. The gap between the bottom and the ground is fixed in all cases. Explosion in Euler domain without limitations is added as a reference. The blast wave caused by the detonation (simulated as a point detonation) propagated in cubic mesh with appropriate boundary conditions. Theoretical solution of spherical non-linearity is given in a form of Taylor equations. It was used to verify the numerical model. The research showed that the ground proximity affects the results of the simulation. The pressure impulse is amplified due to the wave reflection from both the bottom of the vehicle and the ground. As well as that, the study confirmed that the usage of the deflector considerably reduces the impact load to the structure.

Opis:
Numerical simulations without preliminary validation and model verification are vulnerable to errors. Best results are obtained when full experimental research is provided. Such tests are expensive and may be dangerous. Due to cost control and personnel safety, studies are often done in scale. Scale can affect both construction dimensions and applied load. In this paper four different vehicle's bottoms are examined: flat bottom and 3 types of deflectors. The paper presents four different vehicle's bottom shapes in order to examine deflector angle influence on energy absorption. The test included 4 cases: flat bottom broken-shaped deflector and deflectors with different apex angles 124 centigrade and 144 centigrade. For all cases the distance between explosive and panel was approximately 400 mm. The charge used was 100 g TNT. Flat bottom and deflectors were made of St3 steel with 2 mm thickness. For the purpose of the research a special test stand to examine effects of detonation wave was used. The force measurement system was designed in Department of Mechanics and Applied Computer Science. As a result, force versus time plots were obtained. The use of any deflector decreases maximum force affecting vehicle's hull.

Opis:
In this paper, we consider an optimization of the hull shape in order to minimize the total resistance of a ship. The total resistance is assumed to be the sum of the wave resistance computed on the basis of the thin-ship theory and the frictional resistance. Smoothness of hull lines is proved with mathematical procedure, in which differentials of the hull lines functions are analyzed. The wave-making resistance optimization, involving a genetic algorithm, uses Michell integral to calculate wave resistance. A certain hull form is generated by the method using cross section information of a modified DTMB model ship 5415 and a comparative experiment is carried out. Experimental and calculation result show that the method is of good adaptability for designing certain types of ships with excellent resistance performance.

Opis:
In real systems are non-linear mathematical description. The exact solution can not be determined, and then look for approximate methods. Important is the type of nonlinearity, solutions and error method approximation. Linearization is an essential part of creating a model of the selected process. Ship resistance is a function of power with exponent two and higher. Model motion of the ship must have a solution in terms of maneuverability speed and speed of the sea. The solution must be well reproduce the actual path of the transition and the transition time of the ship. Nonlinear solution method determines the accuracy of the answers. Has presented the revised approach to solve the nonlinear differential equation of parabolic function. Linearization has been made in the selected range, and not where you want it to work and solve the error estimate. Range of solutions selected by external priorities adopted. Before the solution is estimated response error. The error value determines whether the selected interval will apply. If the problem solution is unacceptable, it will increase the accuracy of the result of the narrow scope of the work. The new scope of work should also be reassessed a solution error. This type of approach correlates with fuzzy logic, where we use the value of the Boolean variable with the function of belonging. The combination of classical methods of solving differential equations of the theory of fuzzy sets can bring new benefits. Such a solution must have the function of the accuracy of the answers. The linearization method meets this requirement.

Opis:
In order to identify high-speed navigation ability of trimaran planing hull, as well as investigate the characteristics of its resistance and hull form, ship model tests were conducted to measure resistance, trim and heaving under different displacements and gravity centre locations. The test results were then used to study the influence of spray strips on resistance and sea-keeping qualities. Moreover, different planning surfaces were compared in the model tests which helped to look into influence of steps on hull resistance and its moving position. Also, the resistance features of monohull and trimaran planing hulls, both with and without steps, were compared to each other. From the tests it can be concluded that: the two auxiliary side hulls increase aerodynamic lift at high-speed motion, which improves the hydrodynamic performance; the trimaran planing hull has also excellent longitudinal stability and low wave-making action; when Fr∇> 8, its motion is still stable and two distinct resistance peaks and two changes of sailing state (the second change is smaller) appear; spray strips are favourable for sea-keeping qualities at high speed. The change trends before the second resistance peak as to the resistance and sailing behaviour of trimaran planing hull without steps are the same as for monohull planing hull without steps. but when steps in both hulls exist the change trends are different; more specifically: trimaran planing hull with steps has only one resistance peak and its resistance increases along with its speed increasing, and the resistance is improved at the increasing speed as the number of steps increases.

The paper presents the concept of modeling a ship’s operating parameters in order to minimize the fuel consumption in real weather conditions. This is an important innovation because, in ship theory, fuel consumption and speed are usually expressed by average values over longer periods of time, which is a significant limitation. This article presents selected topics of the proposed research such as state-of-the-art, general objectives, scientific and technical expectations, scientific and economic extensions, and environmental impacts. The article also proposes an original method of the research.

Towing tank tests in calm water were performed on a trimaran planing hull to verify its navigational properties with different displacements and centres of gravity, as well as to assess the effects of air jets and bilge keels on the hull’s planing capabilities, and to increase the longitudinal stability of the hull. Hydrostatic roll tests, zero speed tests, and sea trials in the presence of regular waves were conducted to investigate the hull’s seakeeping ability. The test results indicate that the influence of the location of the centre of gravity on the hull resistance is similar to that of a normal trimaran planing hull; namely, moving the centre of gravity backward will reduce the resistance but lower the stability. Bilge keels improve the longitudinal stability but slightly affect the resistance, and the presence of air jets in the hull’s channels decreases the trim angle and increases heaving but has little effect on the resistance. Frequent small-angle rolling occurs in waves. The heaving and pitching motions peak at the encounter frequency of , and the peaks increase with velocity and move towards greater encounter frequencies. When the encounter frequency exceeds, the hull motion decreases, which leads to changes in the navigation speed and frequency.

Opis:
This paper presents the general method for hull shape optimization of fishing boats with the objective of reducing resistance. In particular, it presents an example of the results of the application of resistance-reducing devices such as the ducktail, the cylindrical bulb and the streamlined bulbous bow. The resistance was determined using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). For the purpose of flow simulation, the OpenFoam system, distributed under an open source license, was used. The turbulent, unsteady flow with free surface liquid around the analyzed hulls was computed and investigated for potential resistance reduction. Ultimately, the calculation results were generalized by the parameterization of dimensionless geometric variables for the shape of a bulbous bow and were given in a form suitable for practical application in the hull design process.
