    The publication presents the history of the Jodel and Pietkowski families from Odelsk (today in Belarus), whose story begins with the birth of Antoni in 1898. This article constitutes the pleasure of discovering the fortunes of the family based on interviews, reminiscences of the members of the family living in the 30s of the previous century, during the period of occupation and in the post-war times. The invaluable knowledge possessed by Adela Pietkowska, Alfreda Wojdyło, Maria Mularczyk, Anna Kopiec helped to write down the stories of these families and to perpetuate the memory of Kresy Wschodnie (East Borderlands). It was a must – to discover, listen to and tell the impermanent history. Paolo Coelho said that “The story of one person is the story of all of humanity”. This article presents the knowledge of the roots and identity of the family, describes biographies, activities and achievements of the Odelsk inhabitants against the background of the history of Poland, so that the memory of them would not disappear.

    In the article documents are published that are connected with the history of Cyprian Norwid’s distant and close family. The author reconstructs the fate of the poet’s uncle, Tomasz Dybowski, then she follows the meanders of his marriage – a misalliance with a poor singer, and she gives information about the family of Klara Dybowska nee Zamecka. The marriage certificate makes it possible to reconstruct Norwid’s probable bonds with the Warsaw actors’ circle. Another motif is concerned with Norwid’s sister-in-law and aunt. The 1862 certificate of marriage of Ksawery Norwid and Zofia nee Sobieska, first married name Komierowska, gives more precision to several facts, among others, makes it possible to correct the date on the poet’s letter of 8th December of that year.

    W artykule poruszony jest problem kreacji wybitnych postaci historycznych w wybranych biografiach autorstwa Waleriana Kalinki i Adama Skałkowskiego. Analiza i interpretacja prowadzona jest w kierunku ukazania zmieniających się strategii narracyjnych zastosowanych w tych biografiach oraz pokazania, jak obraz dziejów, z którym utożsamia się historyk, może wpływać na sposób kreacji bohaterów. Oddzielnym wątkiem jest problem pamięci prywatnej, kształtowanej w kręgu rodzinnym przedstawionych postaci historycznych i jej wpływu na powstanie oficjalnej biografii.
    This article deals with the problem of representing prominent historical figures in selected biographical works by Walerian Kalinka and Adam Skałkowski. The author’s concern is with demonstrating how changing narrative strategies were used by these scholars to represent national heroes and what influence their general vision of history exerted upon the way in which they created particular historical portraits. A separate strand of analysis concerns the historical figures’ private memory, shaped through family interactions, and the influence it exerted upon the creation of their official biographies.

    The paper takes under scrutiny Michael Köhlmeier’s novel Abendland, which portrays the history of the twentieth century in the form of oral family stories based on the biography of the main protagonist of the work, Carl Jacob Candoris, written down by his godson Sebastian Lukasser. Authentic historical events and actual characters are intermingled with fictitious figures and events. The article poses questions on individual and collective memory as well as the significance of oral history in the life of an individual.
    W artykule analizowana jest powieść Michaela Köhlmeiera „Abendland” jako utwór przedstawiający historię XX wieku w formie ustnych historii rodzinnych opartych na biografii głównej postaci Carla Jacoba Candorisa spisanej przez jego chrzestnego syna Sebastiana Lukassera. Autentyczne wydarzenia historyczne i prawdziwe postaci splatają się w powieści z osobami i zdarzeniami fikcjonalnymi. W artykule zadawane są pytania dotyczące pamięci indywidualnej i zbiorowej oraz znaczenia historii przekazywanych ustnie w życiu jednostki.

    Michael Zeller und Stephan Wackwitz gehören zu der Enkelgeneration, die sich auf der Spurensuche nach der eigenen Familiengeschichte befindet. In "Die Reise nach Samosch" von Michael Zeller versucht der junge Schriftsteller Sebastian, die Familiengeschichte für seine aus Oppeln (Opole) stammende Großmutter zu rekonstruieren. Diese erlebte während der Kriegs- und Nachkriegszeit traumatisierende Geschichten. Ihr Enkel Sebastian erfährt während der Aufarbeitung der Familiengeschichte, dass sein leiblicher Großvater nicht Deutscher, sondern Pole war. Stephan Wackwitz befasst sich dagegen in "Ein unsichtbares Land" mit dem Tagebuch seines Großvaters, der als begeisterter Nationalist im Ersten Weltkrieg kämpfte und in Regionen wirkte, die früher Deutschland angehörten (Deutsch-Südwest Afrika, Oberschlesien). Der Vater erlebte den Zweiten Weltkrieg in amerikanischer Gefangenschaft. Der Autor versucht, die Motivation des Großvaters sowie des Vaters für ihre Lebenseinstellungen zu untersuchen. In dem Beitrag werden die Erzählstrategien beider Autoren verfolgt, die sie zur Pflege der Erinnerungskultur nutzen. Dieser Ansatz zielt darauf ab, den Nachweis zu erbringen, inwieweit Raumkonstellationen als signifikante Erinnerungsträger in den Romanen von Zeller und Wackwitz zu betrachten sind. Die Familienromane der Enkelgeneration werden dabei als eine sinnvolle Plattform für die Aufarbeitung der oft dramatischen historischen Prozesse (Nationalsozialismus, Kommunismus) der 1930er- und 1940er-Jahre in Mitteleuropa betrachtet.
    Michael Zeller and Stephan Wackwitz belong to the generation of grandchildren who search traces of their own family history. In the novel "Die Reise nach Samosch" by Michael Zeller a young writer Sebastian tries to reconstruct his family history for his grandmother, who comes from Opole (Oppeln in German). She experienced traumatizing stories during the war and after it. Her grandson, a young writer, finds out while working on the family chronicle that his biological grandfather was not a German but a Pole when working on the family chronicle. Stephan Wackwitz, in turn, deals with a diary of his grandfather who worked in southeast Africa and Upper Silesia – these lands belonged to Germany before. He fought in the First World War as an zealous nationalist. The author’s father spent the Second World War in the American captivity. The author tries to explore his grandfather’s and father’s motivation for their attitudes in their lives. I would like to examine and reveal the strategies used by both authors, as presented in the process of their ancestors’ coping with the culture of remembering. The aim of the paper is to provide evidence for the extent to which spatial constellations in the novels by Zeller and Wackwitz are to be viewed as significant memory carriers. I consider family novels of the generations of grandsons a meaningful platform for presenting very problematic historical processes (national socialism, communism) in 1930s and 1940s in central Europe.
    Michael Zeller i Stephan Wackwitz należą do tzw. pokolenia wnuków, które szuka śladów historii własnej rodziny. W powieści Michaela Zellera "Die Reise nach Samosch" młody pisarz Sebastian próbuje zrekonstruować rodzinną historię jako wnuk babci pochodzącej z Opola (niem. Oppeln). W czasie wojny i zaraz po wojnie doświadczyła ona traumatycznych przeżyć. Jej wnuk, młody pisarz, dowiaduje się podczas pracy nad kroniką rodzinną, że jego dziadek nie był Niemcem, lecz Polakiem. Stephan Wackwitz z kolei bada pamiętnik swojego dziadka, który stacjonował w Afryce Południowo-Wschodniej i na Górnym Śląsku – należących wówczas do terytoriów niemieckich. Będąc entuzjastycznym nacjonalistą walczył w I wojnie światowej. Ojciec Stephana przeżył II wojnę światową w amerykańskiej niewoli. Pisarz próbuje zrozumieć postawy życiowe swojego dziadka i ojca oraz ich motywację. W artykule podjęto próbę prześledzenia strategii obydwu autorów, które wykorzystali oni do rozrachunku z kulturą pamięci własnych przodków. Potraktowano przy tym powieści rodzinne pisane przez pokolenie wnuków jako interesującą platformę do dyskusji nad często bardzo problematycznymi procesami historycznymi w Europie Środkowej (narodowy socjalizm, komunizm) lat 30. i 40. XX wieku.

    Wprowadzenie. Artykuł wprowadza typologię stylów ojcostwa, przede wszystkim z perspektywy psychologiczno-pedagogicznej i kulturowej, oraz przedstawia wybrane kreacje ojcostwa w przestrzeni literackiej. Jako przykład powieściowego, wieloaspektowego,zmieniającego się historycznie i kulturowo obrazu ojcostwa posłużyła trylogia Małgorzaty Kalicińskiej, w której skład wchodzą książki Dom nad rozlewiskiem, Powroty nad rozlewiskiem i Miłość nad rozlewiskiem. Cel. Celem artykułu jest zrekonstruowanie obrazu ojcostwa wykreowanego w powieściach o charakterze rodzinnej sagi, z dominującą pozycją narracji pamiętnikarskiej prowadzonej z kobiecej perspektywy. Materiały i metody. Artykuł ma charakter opisowo-analityczny, wykorzystuje narzędzia charakterystyczne dla pracy filologa i historyka literatury oraz pedagoga (m.in. elementy kulturowej teorii literatury, historii rodziny i wychowania, eksplikację tekstu). Wyniki. Z analizy trzech powieści Małgorzaty Kalicińskiej (w tym szczególnie konstrukcji postaci ojców) oraz gruntownej kwerendy literatury przedmiotu poświęconej kategorii ojcostwa wynika, że autorka mazurskiej sagi uchwyciła obraz męskiego rodzicielstwa w jego różnorodnych odmianach. Na tle historii rodu przedstawionego w perspektywie patriotycznej, osiadłego w północnej części ziem polskich, obok wyraźnie zarysowanych bohaterek kobiecych, pisarka umieściła portrety kilku mężczyzn, których ojcostwo, przeżywane na tle przemian społecznych i kulturowych, miało odmienny charakter.
    Introduction. The article introduces a typology of styles of fatherhood, primarily from a pedagogical and cultural perspective, and presents selected creations of fatherhood in the literary space. An example of a fictional, multifaceted, historically, and culturally transforming image of fatherhood is the trilogy by Małgorzata Kalicińska: House by the Backwater, Returns the Backwater and Love over the Backwater. Aim. The aim of the work is to reconstruct the image of fatherhood created in the family saga novels, with a dominant position of the female memoir narrative. Materials and methods. The article is descriptive and analytical in nature, it uses materials characteristic to the work of a philologist and a literary historian as well as to an educator (including elements of cultural theory of literature, family history and upbringing, explication of the text). Results. The analysis of three novels by Małgorzata Kalicińska (including particularly the construction of the characters of fathers) and a profound query of the subject literature devoted to the category of fatherhood, show that the author of the Masurian saga captured the image of male parenthood in its different varieties. On the background of the history of a lineage, presented as Polish patriots who settled in the northern part of the Polish lands, the author portrayed, next to some clearly outlined female heroines, several men whose fatherhood, against the background of cultural and social transformations, had different characters.
