    « Faut-il nécessairement que la beauté s’ignore pour ne rien perdre de son éclat ? » : Good Taste and Grace in George Sand’s Le Piccinino In Histoire de ma vie, George Sand claims that the main reason she wrote Le Piccinino (1847) was so that she could present her views on the nobility in three central chapters. While using the discourse of the nobility on itself, in particular when it comes to the relationship between heredity and aristocratic memory, she also subverts this discourse by democratizing the relationship between memory and lineage. The rest of the novel offers many representations of noblewomen and noblemen, who all seem to share a specific trait: good taste and grace of manners, whose degree seems to accurately represent their position in society. This essay will explore these two facets of the nobility and the way in which they conspire to display an aura of natural superiority, while simultaneously being undermined by Sand’s very personal opinion, as she strives to dispel this long-lasting illusion.

    One of the major problems encountered in prediction of hereditary viscoelastic behavior of polymeric composites is the determination of heredity kernels. This issue comes down to identification of the model characterizing the viscoelastic properties of these materials. The purpose of this work is to propose a model for prediction of viscoelastic nonlinear behavior of laminate composite with polyester matrix, through the study and analysis of heredity kernels and their influence on the life time of this material. Identification of this model required experimental determination at room temperature, of viscoelastic parameters of heredity kernels by macroscopic approach. These data provide predictive tools for establishment of the life time and long term stress limit under static complex loading for this type of material.

    Facebook has become one of the mediums of creativity and criticism of works of art as a result of the nature of its blended writing. At the “completion” of a composition, Facebook poems maintain a certain degree of the static form, which is a characteristic of print literature. Facebook poetry coalesces the oral and print into a “new” form of poetry and extends the boundaries of oral and print literature. Using Bolter and Grusin concept of Remediation as a theoretical framework, this paper examines literary heredity and variation in selected Facebook poems of Veralyn Chinenye and her collaborative authors and participants. The paper further examines the characteristics and criticism of Facebook poetry and explicates the functionality of “Emoji”, “Comments”, “Share”, and intertextuality in the on-going creation and criticism of Facebook poetry that is different from the conventional perception and practice of literary creativity and criticism. Through the examples of poetry analysed in this paper, our findings show that digital literature is, to an extent, fluid and shares identical characteristics with oral literature in terms of artist and audience participation, occasion of performance

    Obecnie żywo dyskutuje się „wymiar lamarkowski” i „mechanizmy lamarkowskie” zaznaczając, że są one zgodne z Darwinem, ale wymagają rozszerzenia: Modern Synthesis do Extendent Evolutionary Synthesis. Oba te niefortunnie związane z Lamarckiem terminy rzeczywiście określają grupę zjawisk, której symbolem są sformułowania Jabłonki „niektóre zmiany ewolucyjne powstają nie losowo, lub nawet według instrukcji”. Mechanizmy lamarkowskie prowadzące do tych zmian ewolucyjnych powstały jednak drogą darwinowską znacznie wcześniej. O tym wcześniejszym etapie mówi się zbyt rzadko, a typowe rozumienie lamarkizmu silnie sugeruje jego brak. Termin „lamarkizm” rozumiany był i jest bardzo różnie zarówno w różnym czasie jak i w różnych tradycjach narodowych i ideologicznych, a zazwyczaj obarczony zbyt uproszczonym rozumieniem Lamarcka. Większość kontrowersji w zakresie tych zagadnień wynika ze zbyt malej precyzji wypowiedzi, a ta z niedoceniania: definiowania, specyfikacji założeń i wnioskowania abstrakcyjnego.
    Currently, the “Lamarckian dimension” and “Lamarckian mechanisms” are vividly discussed, indicating that they are compatible with Darwinism. However, they require an extension of Modern Synthesis to Extended Evolutionary Synthesis. Both the terms, unfortunately connected to Lamarck, really indicate a group of phenomena which can be symbolized by Jablonka’s wording: “some evolutionary changes are non-random in origin, or even result from instruction.” The Lamarckian mechanisms leading to these evolutionary changes arose, however, in the Darwinian way much earlier. This earlier stage is said too rarely, and the typical understanding of Lamarckism strongly suggests its lack. The term “Lamarckism” was and is understood very differently both at different times and in different national and ideological traditions but usually fraught with a simplified understanding of Lamarck. Most of the controversies in these issues arise from the insufficient precision of the utterance, and this from undervaluation of definition, specification of assumptions and abstract reasoning.

    The subject of this study and analysis was titanium alloy, applied among others to the friction components of orthopaedic (artificial hip joint) implants. This material was subjected to abrasive finishing using a synthetic diamond as a tool. The properties of the studied titanium alloy were characterised. The processing technology and the research methods are discussed. The surfaces, after being subjected to abrasive machining, were studied using three research instruments – an interference microscope, a scanning electron microscope, and an atomic force microscope. Advanced metrology software was used to analyse the measurement data. The aim of the research was to present the changes taking place in the forming of the surface of the studied titanium alloy, in particular those occurring in the final sequential processing. A characterisation of the machined surfaces was prepared based on parametric (surface topography – parameters and functions) and non-parametric (surface morphology – images) analysis. The significant influence of the sequence and the tool (diamond grain and micro-grain) on the surface topography shaped during the technological process is presented. Improvement in the surface quality and features was observed. Parametric analysis showed no significant differences between TA-III and TA-IV surfaces, while these differences were visualised by non-parametric analysis. Moreover, the hereditary features of the surface topography (isotropy and pits/valleys) and their influence on the potential functional properties (place/area for accumulation/retaining of the lubricant in the friction zone) of the titanium alloy were analysed.

    This paper provides a quantitative analysis of how raceway waviness (RONt) in 6304-type bearings affects their vibration. The waviness of bearing races was measured at the actual points of contact between the balls and the races. The measurements were conducted in the range of 16–50 undulations per revolution (UPR). The bearing vibration was analyzed in three bandwidths of frequency: low (LB) (50 ÷ 300 Hz), medium MB (300 ÷ 1800 Hz) and high HB (1800 ÷ 10 000 Hz), as well as in the full RMS bandwidth. The paper also presents the procedure used to determine the actual points of contact between the ball and each race to specify the point of waviness measurement. The method of calculation of the contact angle for a ball bearing is also discussed. The Pearson linear correlation coefficients were determined to analyze the relationships between the waviness parameters and the level of vibration. The test results show that an increase in the surface waviness on the inner and outer raceways causes an increase in the vibration level. The influence is most visible for the medium frequency bandwidth.

Doświadczenie utraty, bezradności, panplagiatowości i poszukiwania sensu manifestuje się w różnego rodzaju zabiegach prozatorskich, prowadząc ostatecznie przez abdukcyjne meandry rozumowania do afirmacji życia.
    The article tries to identify distinctive features for the current of writing of the 3rd generation after the Holocaust on the basis of Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel Everything Is Illuminated that opens and establishes the basic features of his poetics. The experience of a loss, helplessness, panplagiarism and of searching for the meaning is manifested in various prose devices, ultimately leading through abductive meanders of reasoning to the affirmation of life.

    Opis:
    Purpose: The aim of the proposed research is to investigate the influence of temperature and duration of isothermal melt processing on structural characteristics of castings in connection with technological background of charge metal. Design/methodology/approach: Ferrous and non-ferrous alloys were obtained by remelting a charge with a dispersion-structured structure (which was ensured by high- speed crystallization). Remelting was carried out at different temperatures of overheating of the melt over the liquidus with different isothermal exposure at these temperatures. Experimental castings were crystallized under normal conditions. It was studied a change of structure formation and mechanical characteristics depending on the temperature and duration of thermal treatment of the melt before crystallization. Findings: It is established that isothermal treatment of the melt at the overheating of the liquid metal above a certain equilibrium temperature of the micro-inhomogeneous melt (Te) causes a gradual loss of hereditary characteristics of the original charge metal, increase of the chemical homogeneity of the melt and the formation of crystallization and formation a corresponding change in the mechanical properties of castings. Research limitations/implications: The results can be complemented by studies of the effect of thermal treatment in the temperature range of crystallization. Practical implications: The results can be used to select the optimal heat treatment during remelting and, accordingly, the mechanical properties of the resulting casting. Originality/value: The obtained results testify to the predominant influence of temperature on the dispersion of the cast structure of steels, given the duration of technological operations of preparation and casting of steels in the manufacture of castings in industrial conditions.

    Cet article analyse les jeux d’enfants dans Les Rougon-Macquart. Il adopte une typologie qui les classe en trois catégories : les jouets, les jeux symboliques et le bal d’enfants. Au-delà de leur fonction éducative et récréative, les jeux pratiqués par les enfants au sein de cette saga littéraire jouent un rôle complexe dans le développement narratif. Ils contribuent à la construction d’un effet de réel, à la création de moments-clés de l’intrigue, à l’exploration de la psychologie des personnages enfants et de leurs parents, à la relation parent/enfant et bien d’autres encore. En outre, l’auteur utilise les jouets et les jeux d’enfants pour nourrir sa réflexion sur l’influence conjointe de l’hérédité et du milieu sur les destins des personnages, en accord avec les principes du mouvement naturaliste. Cette approche offre un éclairage précieux sur la manière dont Zola exploite les jeux d’enfants comme des éléments narratifs et symboliques dans sa grande fresque littéraire.
    This article examines children’s games in Les Rougon-Macquart while relying on a typology that includes toys, symbolic plays, and a children’s ball. In addition to their educational and recreational functions, childhood games play various narrative roles, such as constructing a referential universe, creating key moments in the plot, exploring the complexity of child and parental psychology, parent/child relationships and much more. Furthermore, the author, Émile Zola, employs toys and children’s games to inform his reflections on the joint influence of heredity and environment on the fates of characters, in alignment with the principles of the naturalist movement. This approach offers valuable insights into how Zola utilizes children’s games as narrative and symbolic elements within his grand literary tapestry.
