Helping professions, professions of public trust are undoubtedly a unique and complex issue due to the importance of the needs and interests of another person – client, beneficiary, pupil or patient – that they fulfill. It seems that a great responsibility is connected with taking some kind of care of – and providing assistance to – an individual who is weaker and thus exposed to far-reaching consequences in the form of double social exclusion in case of improper assistance efforts. The presented article is part of the ongoing, socially important interdisciplinary discussion about the deontology of professional help. The presented analysis of selected codes of ethics provides knowledge about the common features or axiological basics in helping professions, and as a consequence points to the ethical and moral obligations that link the people of public trust in their daily activities.
Helping professions, zawody zaufania publicznego to niewątpliwie materia wyjątkowa i skomplikowana ze względu na doniosłość realizowanych potrzeb i interesów drugiego człowieka – klienta, beneficjenta, ucznia, pacjenta. Wydaje się, iż z ogromną odpowiedzialnością wiąże się objęcie pewnego rodzaju opieką i pomocą podmiotu, który jest słabszy i tym samym narażony na daleko idące konsekwencje w postaci podwójnego wykluczenia społecznego w przypadku podjęcia niewłaściwych działań pomocowych. Prezentowany artykuł wpisuje się w aktualną, społecznie ważną interdyscyplinarną dyskusję o deontologii profesjonalnego pomagania. Przedstawiona analiza wybranych kodeksów etycznych dostarcza wiedzy na temat wspólnych cech czy też podstaw aksjologicznych w zawodach pomocowych, a w konsekwencji wskazuje na obowiązki etyczno-moralne łączące osoby zaufania publicznego w ich codziennych działaniach.

The norm of reciprocity (Gouldner, 1960) has only been considered and experimentally demonstrated between two individuals. However, comments from several authors invite the consideration of an expanded form of this norm. 120 passersby, randomly assigned to 3 conditions, were asked to watch a confederate’s belongings. Depending on the condition, they had either previously been given a gift or not. In addition, the gift was offered by either the confederate making the target request or by a second confederate, not initially involved. First, results show that passersby are significantly more likely to comply with the target request if they were offered a gift than if they weren’t no matter who the confederate was. Second, the confederate offering the gift gets significantly more compliance than the one not initially involved. Results are discussed in terms of self-presentation theory (Pendleton & Batson, 1979), internalization of norm (Schwartz & Howard, 1981) and positive mood induction (Isen & Al, 1978).

The aim of my article is to answer whether the market should be a “means” to help the poor. I analyze and evaluate the cases of using market to supply aid, especially the issues focused on Cause Related Marketing (CRM). I claim that it is better to separate market activities from the helping activities than, via commercialization, blur the distinctions between the two. The thesis is supported by developing a moral critique of CRM. I propose four types of critique: CRM’s participants motivation, the treatment of beneficiaries, CRM’s social consequences and consumers’ attitudes.

The reflection on the idea of empowerment has been strongly emphasized in numerous theoretical studies in recent years. There are numerous values of this concept, however difficulties arise with the moment of transition it from the theoretical to the practical perspective. There are many situations where the subjective approach penetrates with the no subjective one. The purpose of this article is to explore the (non)subjective support relationship in social work (among clients, families and social workers) as a not obvious, barrier-restricted and not always able to use in practice. The analysis of the issue was conducted in the context of different conditions, e.g. functioning of social welfare clients, the work of professionals and the social welfare system, and the impact of these factors on the way how the helping relationship was created. The answer to the question if the helping relationship in social work can become subjective is not easy at the moment. As the authors emphasized in the final conclusions, the subjectivity in the helping process has the opportunity to appear in the strengths-based social work practice, especially in empowerment approach, Solution Focused Approach, Family Conference Group, Video Interaction Training or Motivational Interviewing. The article also presents the possibilities and dilemmas of applying these approaches in the practice of social work.

Schöning and Ko respectively introduced the concepts of helping and one-side-helping, and then defined new operators, Phelp(•) and P1-help(•), acting on classes of sets C and returning classes of sets Phelp(C) and P1-help(C). A number of results have been obtained on this subject, principally devoted to understanding how wide the Phelp(C) and P1-help(C) classes are. For example, it seems that the Phelp(•) operator contracts NP ∩ coNP}, while the P1-help(•) operator enlarges UP. To better understand the relative power of P1-help(•) versus Phelp(•) we propose to search, for every relativizable class D containing P, the largest relativizable class C containing P such that for every oracle B PBhelp(CB)? PB1-help(DB). In the following paper: Cintioli P. and Silvestri R. 1997 Inf. Proc. Let. 61 189, it has been observed that Phelp(UP ∩ coUP)= P1-help(UP ∩ coUP), and this is true in any relativized world. In this paper we consider the case of D=UP ∩ coUP and demonstrate the existence of an oracle A for which PAhelp(UPA2 ∩ coUPA2) is not contained in PA1-help(UPA ∩ coUPA). We also prove that for every integer k ≥ 2 there exists an oracle A such that PAhelp(UPAk ∩ coUPAk) ? UPAk.

Social assistance clients with the support of social workers are taking action to permanently become independent and overcome the crisis. The process of promoting and strengthening the correct attitudes to life in social work, in addition to relevant laws and regulations, is determined by the relationship that is formed between the social worker and the client. Undoubtedly, the basis for effective and proper relationship is assistance in the essential process of interpersonal communication which includes feedback as significant part of it.

In social practice, use of supervision becomes a natural part of improving the activities of so-cial workers and professional employees. These include some legislative conditions; supervision prac-tice has a sufficient number of accredited supervisors. So far supervision activity was mainly focused on raising the professional competences of employees of social services and to support the work teams in these entities. Experience, however, also point out the necessity to pay increased attention to the burnout of employees in these entities. The social worker’s activity in the discussed area is characterised by the diversity of clients from of view of their personal, social, health problems, as well as their work load and low salary. The problem of burnout syndrome of social workers and professional staff of public policy institutions so far was not paid attention to. No research have not been carried out, which showed this issue. The contribution is focused, in addition of theoretical contexts, to analyse the impact of supervision process at the prevention of burnout among professionals. The paper is intended to analyse the impact of the supervision process on prevention of the burnout syndrome in helping professions. The results presented have come from the research in which 93 supervisors and 260 professionals from institutions of social services took part. The aim of the research was to identify presence of an analysed theme in the process of supervision and find out what preferred ways of solving them are. A part of the research was diagnosing the burnout syn-drome on concerned helping professionals and identifying the impact of supervision on this threat. The quantitative exploratory method was used in the research mentioned. The results have produced some valuable findings: the burnout syndrome is often a primary as well as secondary theme of su-pervision of helping professionals and supervision is an effective tool of the burnout syndrome pre-vention.

This article tackles the issues associated with feudal science, which leads to the cultivation of pseudo-science, the creation of inadequate assessment criteria and inappropriate mechanisms in assisting the development of science. W artykule podjęto problematykę umiejętności pomagania, jakie powinien posiadać nauczyciel-pedagog pracujący z dzieckiem wykorzystywanym seksualnie. W części teoretycznej artykułu zostały zdefiniowane umiejętności pomagania istotne dla procesu rozumienia trudnej sytuacji dziecka oraz dokonano deskrypcyjnego ujęcia ich podstawowych rodzajów. Przedmiotem badań uczyniono umiejętności pomagania nauczyciela-pedagoga w zakresie pracy z osobami, które doświadczyły przemocy seksualnej, zaś celem określenie i opis umiejętności profesjonalnych nauczyciela-pedagoga – wzmacniających opowiedzenie historii przez dziecko oraz wyciszenie emocji towarzyszących opowiadanej historii. W badaniach posłużono się metodą narracyjną z wykorzystaniem analizy treści. Problem badawczy przyjął postać pytania: Co stanowi komponenty umiejętności nauczycieli-pedagogów w zakresie pomagania dziecku wykorzystywanemu seksualnie? Badania przeprowadzono w 2019 r. wśród 23 słuchaczy studiów podyplomowych, przygotowujących się do pracy poradniczej. Uzyskane wyniki badań pozwoliły na wyłonienie w ramach badanych kategorii subkategorie unaoczniające specyfikę i wartość opisywanych przez badanych umiejętności pomagania oraz wyodrębnienie komponentów decydujących o skutecznym pomaganiu, udzielaniu wsparcia przez nauczycieli-pedagogów dziecku doświadczającemu przemocy seksualnej. Ponadto, wnioski z badań są wartościowe dla praktyki pedagogicznej, szczególnie w zakresie wzbogacania oferty kształcenia do zawodu nauczyciela oraz pedagoga w odniesieniu do działań wspierających osoby z doświadczeniami przemocy.
The article deals with the issue of helping skills that a teacher and pedagogue should have when working with a sexually abused child. The theoretical part of the article defines helping skills essential for the process of understanding a child's difficult situation and their basic types were described. The subject of the research was the helping skills of a teacher and pedagogue in working with people who experienced sexual violence. The purpose of the study was to determine and describe the professional skills of a teacher and pedagogue ‒ strengthening the storytelling by the child and calming the emotions accompanying the story. The study used the narrative method with the use of content analysis. The research problem took the form of the question: What are the components of a teacher and pedagogue skills in helping a sexually abused child? The research was conducted in 2019 among 23 postgraduate students preparing for counselling work. The obtained research results allowed for the selection of subcategories within the studied categories that visualize the specificity and value of the helping skills described by the respondents, and for the identification of components that determine effective help and support by teachers and pedagogues for a child experiencing sexual violence. In addition, the conclusions from the research are valuable for pedagogical practice, especially in the field of enriching the educational offer for the teaching and pedagogical profession with regard to activities supporting people experiencing violence.

This paper presents an analysis of the problem of poverty as portrayed in the Messages of Pope Francis, addressed annually from 2017 to 2021 to the faithful of the Catholic Church. The analysis of the thoughts in the messages of Pope Francis presented in the article aims to show the relationship between the material and non-material view of poverty. The article presents understandings of poverty that selectively highlight its characteristics in the messages and narrow the place of the poor person in the modern world. An important aspect of the analysis is also the ideas of help for the poor outlined in the messages, which are consistent with the contemporary indications of professional support, but which also often (although right in intention), as a consequence, leave room for the entrenchment of poverty. A significant part of the analysis is also the reference to the proposed relational way of helping the poor, while at the same time the passive role of the poor is presented (which does not correspond to the relational approach) and in relation to which the messages do not give instructions that would activate their attitude.

The category of trust has been considered in numerous philosophical, sociological, psychological, economic, legal, and educational deliberations. The issue of whether trust occurs in or is absent from human relationships has been widely discussed in the social discourse and has been a component of social capital of organisations.This paper reviews interdisciplinary literature to characterise and describe the phenomenon, identifying its dimensions, types, and patterns. It focuses on interpersonal trust as a factor characterising the functioning in organisations, also with reference to educational institutions. The author also identifiestrust in the context of helping relationships in which it is a component of the contractforming process between those who provide and those who use help, of establishing and developing relationships.

Helping behavior can be triggered by complex motivators, a number of them self-related. Investigation of this issue can foster a better understanding of such current social phenomena as volunteerism within the context of intensive migration in Europe. The research presented here focuses on individuals who applied for volunteer positions in the Registration and Reception Centers for Refugees in Bulgaria. Document analysis was conducted concerning 128 applications for participation in an ongoing volunteer project during the period 2013-2016. The explicit motivations of candidates indicate that groups of motives related to self-enhancement are among the key triggers for volunteers. These include a desire to foster social change and the effort to develop a positive self-image, both of which are associated with the role of volunteer.

Artykuł pokazuje sposób przedstawiania Zagłady w opowiadaniach Ludwika Heringa. Skupia się na konstrukcji narratora i bohatera, analizując ich stosunek do sytuacji Żydów. W kontekście przywoływanego w tekstach antysemityzmu protagoniści nie tylko się wobec niego dystansują, ale starają się pomóc Żydom. Zdają sobie jednak przy tym sprawę z ograniczonego charakteru tej pomocy, odsłaniają jej realia. Pomagający Polak, sam społecznie wykluczony, ma świadomość siły społecznych reguł, które samą pomoc niszczą.
The article shows the manner of presenting the Holocaust in Ludwik Hering's stories. It focuses on the construction of the narrator and the protagonist, analyzing their attitude to the situation of Jews.In the context of the anti-Semitism mentioned in the texts, the protagonists not only distance themselves from it, but they try to help the Jews. However, they are also aware of the limited nature of this help for Jews and reveal its realities. A helping Pole, who is socially excluded himself, is aware of the power of social rules which destroy the help itself.

Instytucje kościelne od początków swego powstania otaczały opieką swoich wiernych, a także tych, którzy zostali skazani na karę pozbawienia wolności. W dawnych wiekach inicjowano pomoc duchową i materialną dla osób, które za wiarę trafi ały do więzień, a także zbierano fundusze do ich wykupu. Duchowny posługujący w więzieniu nie tylko spełniał funkcję spowiednika, ale także był edukatorem osadzonych, ucząc ich czytania, pisania, rachunków i religii. Współcześnie w Polsce i na świecie powstaje coraz więcej organizacji zrzeszających duchownych i świeckich, którzy w sposób kompleksowy zajmują się niesieniem pomocy więźniom, a także byłym więźniom oraz ich rodzinom. Głównym jednak zadaniem duszpasterzy więziennych pozostaje wciąż praca z osadzonymi nad ich życiem duchowym i formowaniem u nich właściwych postaw chrześcijańskich.
Since the beginning of its establishment, Church institutions have taken the care of their faithful, as well as those who have been sentenced to imprisonment. In the old ages, spiritual and material help was initiated for people who were sent to prison for their faith, and funds were collected for their purchase. In prison, a priest not only fulfi lled the mission of the confessor, but also educated the prisoners, teaching them to read, write, do arithmetic and gave them religious instruction. Nowadays, in Poland and in the world, there are more and more organizations of clergy and lay people who deal in a comprehensive way with helping prisoners, as well as former prisoners and their families. However, the main task of priests is to work with the inmates on their spiritual life and form proper Christian attitudes.
