Opis:
Promoting a healthy lifestyle, increasing health awareness and an aging society caused changes in the tourism services market. Each year new hotels appear offering beauty treatments and services improving well-being. In Krakow, one of the best developing European cities in terms of tourism, where there is intense competition, hotels do not stop at the basic offers, but look for opportunities to stand out through additional tourist services, creating new proposals for spending free time. One of them, consistent with the global trend of improving health, offered by Krakow hotels, is to provide Spa & Wellness treatments. Hotels offering this type of services increase their occupancy rate and the chance to stand out among the rich tourist infrastructure of Krakow. The aim of the study is to diagnose the number of hotels offering Spa & Wellness amenities in selected hotels in Krakow. The study shows the shaping of the “health industry”, as well as further opportunities for the Krakow hospitality market associated with these services to develop.

The current Indian national drug policy has its roots in two documents originated in the 70-ties and the 80-ties of the XX. century. Although the first National Drug Policy was declared in 1978, it has been revised thrice since then, in 1986, 1994 and 2002. Also, in 1986 another document on the Indian drug policy, titled “Measures for Rationalisation, Quality Control and Growth of Drugs and Pharmaceutical Industry in India” was evolved. The drug policy has been implemented under some legal acts related mainly to the fields of health care, family welfare, scientific research and development, and industry. It emerged from the findings of the Hathi Committee (a committee commissioned to study the operations of multinational drug companies vis-à-vis indigenous companies and public sector undertakings).

Opis:
Objectives The automotive industry represents the most important industrial sector in Czechia. The objective of this study has been to analyze the occurrence of occupational diseases (OD) in the automotive industry during the period from 2001 till 2014. Material and Methods Data on OD cases was retrieved from the National Registry of OD. Further, we conducted a survey in automotive companies with focus on occupational health services and positions of the companies in global production networks (GPNs). An analysis of OD distribution in the automotive industry was performed (age, gender, company size and its role in GPNs, regional distribution of studied companies, and regional unemployment rate), and was accompanied by assessment of the quality and range of occupational health services. Results Employees older than 40 years old have nearly 2.5 times higher probability of OD occurrence as compared with employees younger than 40 years old (odds ratio (OR) = 2.41, 95% confidence interval (CI): 2.05–2.85). Occupational diseases occurrence probability was 3 times higher for women than for men (OR = 3.01, 95% CI: 2.55–3.55). Occupational diseases incidence rates increased with the size of the company (0 OD/10 000 employees in micro enterprises to 57 OD/10 000 employees in large enterprises). A particularly steep rise in OD incidents in the automotive industry was observed in the Plzeň Region between 2001 and 2011. An association between OD incidents and the unemployment rate was not statistically confirmed. Conclusions A statistically significant increase in OD incidents dependent on company size may be arguably attributed to a higher quality of occupational medical services in bigger companies, which ensures better detection and diagnosis of OD. In the Plzeň Region, the rapid increase in OD incidents was mainly caused by a change in the production process of automobile textiles in one factory due to the introduction of a glue containing isocyanates, which are potent allergising agents. This led to an increase in occupational allergic diseases – bronchial asthma in particular. Int J Occup Med Environ Health 2017;30(3):455–468

Opis:
Objectives: To evaluate the association between night-shift work exposure and visual health, this cross-sectional study utilized visual acuity, a surrogate measure for visual function, as a parameter, and performed an analysis comparing visual acuity between daytime and nighttime employees in an electronics manufacturing company. Material and Methods: Data of personal histories, occupational records, physical examinations and blood tests was obtained from the electronic health records of workers. The total of 8280 workers including 3098 women and 5182 men, wearing their own daily used eyeglasses, were included in the final analysis. The mean age of the sample population was 34.7 years old (standard deviation = 5.4 years). All workers were divided into 3 work categories – consistent daytime worker (CDW), day-shift worker (DSW) and night-shift worker (NSW). The check-up results of glasses-corrected visual acuity (c-VA) were utilized to classify individuals as good (≥ 1.2, both eyes) and inadequate (< 0.8, the better eye) c-VA. Results: Consistent daytime workers had the highest rate of good c-VA (42.5% vs. 25.1% DSW and 21.1% NSW, p = 0.047). Night-shift workers had the highest rate of inadequate c-VA (CDW, DSW and NSW: 2.6%, 6.2%, and 7.6%, p = 0.03) among all employees. After controlling for covariates, NSW were found at an increased risk for inadequate c-VA (adjusted odds ratio (ORa) = 2.7, 95% confidence interval (CI): 2.0–3.6, vs. CDW), and less likely to have good c-VA (ORa = 0.4, 95% CI: 0.4–0.5, vs. CDW). Conclusions: Night-shift work is moderately associated with compromised visual acuity of employees in this electronics manufacturing company. Int J Occup Med Environ Health 2018;31(1):71–79

The patents regime in healthcare sector and its tussle with right to public health is a long controversial saga. The crux of matter which is debated focuses upon providing patent rights that reduces the accessibility of cost-effective healthcare services, particularly in developing country. The counter point to this has remained that providing patent allows nurturing of research and development in the healthcare sector, which promotes the healthcare industry to take initiatives to tackle various health related problems and provide better treatment. According to the rival opinions presented in the aforesaid, the centre of the issue is health, therefore it is necessary to discuss the corresponding rights of citizens and duties of the government to make healthcare industry favourable.

Opis:
Introduction. Agricultural hygiene and biomonitoring helps protect people, livestock and crops from pests and disease, including insects, parasites, pathogens and weeds. Optimising the health of animals and crops increases productivity, minimises animal suffering, and ultimately protects human health by ensuring that foodstuffs are safe for consumption. A healthy farm environment also protects the health of the agricultural workers. Ensuring hygiene and health protection is one of the basic construction requirements. Such requirements are examined when commissioning new constructions and examining defects in constructions already in use. One substantial defect is biocorrosion which represents a synergistic process with a complex variety of factors, caused by biochemical manifestations of various micro-organisms (micromycetes). Micromycetes producing mycotoxins therefore play an important role regarding the so-called ‘Sick Building Syndrome’ (SBS) that has become a global problem nowadays. Therefore, agricultural hygiene and biomonitoring aims to minimise the introduction of additional pathogens and pests, as well as the spread of pathogens and pests in farm environments; this helps protect the safety of foodstuffs further down the supply chain. Objective. The aim of the presented study is to point out the need to address indoor environment monitoring, summarizing the most commonly used methods for monitoring biological factors, and characterizing the negative effects of biological agents on humans and animals exposed to their negative effects.

Opis:
This comprehensive review explores the underutilized buckwheat hulls, sprouts, and grain and sprout extracts, concentrating on their nutritional characteristics, health advantages, and possible uses in developing functional food products. Buckwheat, a pseudocereal, is emphasized for its impressive nutritional content, including high levels of dietary fiber, essential minerals, and vitamins, as well as bioactive compound content, such as phenolic acids and flavonoids mainly rutin. The paper discusses the significant antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of buckwheat hulls, sprouts, and extracts, which contribute to their utility in creating healthier, functional food products. Buckwheat sprouts are noted for their enhanced levels of antioxidants and nutrients compared to mature grains. Meanwhile, buckwheat hulls, traditionally seen as by-products, are identified as sources of dietary fiber and flavonoids, suitable for use in dietary supplements and functional foods. The extracts from these parts are rich in bioactive compounds that offer health-promoting effects. The possible effects of addition of buckwheat hulls, sprouts, and extracts to food products in terms of nutritional, textural, and sensory properties are also discussed. The review underscores the need for further research to optimize the use of buckwheat less-utilized parts and to better understand their health impacts. By highlighting the novel uses and health benefits of buckwheat hulls, sprouts, and extracts, the review contributes to the growing field of sustainable food practices and the development of functional foods.
