Introduction. Health behaviors are all behaviors related to health. The study was aimed at recognizing the health behaviors of professionally active nurses. Aim. The aim of the study was to evaluate health behaviors presented by professionally active nurses. Material and methods. 103 nurses were included in the study. The method of diagnostic survey was used in the paper, and the research tool was the author’s questionnaire for socio-demographic data and the Inventory of Health Behaviors. Results. Nearly 60% of the respondents declared participation in preventive examinations. 70% of nurses put the family first in the hierarchy of life values. In the group of professionally active nurses, the value of health behavior index was 80.52 points. Conclusion. The greatest value in the life of nurses was the family right after health and work. Nurses declared regular participation in preventive screenings. They presented the average level of health behaviors. The nurses’ educational level positively affected the level of their health behavior. Nurses living in the countryside showed a higher level of health behavior. Nurses with chronic condition presented a lower level of health behaviors than their healthy colleagues.

Opis:
Introduction: Tai Chi is a type of movement derived from Tr aditional Chinese Medicine, gaining popularity in Poland in recent years. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of 1 - year practice of Tai Chi on health behavior in adults. Material and Methods: The study was conducted from September 2014 to Octob er 2015 among 62 students of the Tai Chi Chuan School in Krakow ranging from 30 to 50 years old. The study involved 37 women as well as 25 men. The main test method used in our study was the Health Behavior Inventory (IZZ). Results: Results of this study i ndicate significant improvement of the average score of Health Behavior Index (p=0.000): from 75,1pts before Tai Chi program to 83,1pts after one year of practicing. The average value of this parameter among women increased from 75,9pts to 83,1pts (p=0.000 ) and among men from 73,9pts to 83,0pts (p=0.000). The beneficial effect of 1 - year Tai Chi practice was observed in all examined health behavior categories (proper nutrition habits, preventive behavior, positive mental attitude as well as proper nutrition) in the entire group as well as in men and women separately. The improvement observed was statistically significant (p<0.05). Before starting the Tai Chi program the average score of Health Behavior Index was significantly lower when compared to the normat ive group (p=0.000) but after one year practice an improvement was observed and the level of statistically not significant difference was achieved (p=0.483). Conclusion: The beneficial effect of 1 - year Tai Chi training on overall improvement on health habi ts supports the need of further promotion of this physical activity among adults .

Opis:
The current demographic processes invite an analysis of the lifestyle of people in late adulthood and its determinants. A thorough diagnosis of senior health is also needed, not only for the purposes of description and explanation, but also – above all – for the creation of health programs. The present study analyses the specificity of health behavior of people of senior age. It describes the Health-Related Behavior Questionnaire for Seniors (KZZ-S), a tool used to measure the health behaviors of seniors (i.e., people aged 60 and above), and presents its theoretical basis. The questionnaire has a five-factor structure, as revealed by exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. It consists of 24 items and allows the calculation of the overall rate of such health behaviors and behavioral categories as positive attitude to life, behavior related to physical health, attention to mental condition, behavior associated with prevention and treatment, and environmental behavior. A higher score indicates a higher level of behavior beneficial to health. In total, the participants in the study were 522 people diverse in terms of activity and life situation, and the aim was to determine the psychometric properties of the KZZ-S. The KZZ-S is a reliable and valid measure with satisfactory psychometric properties (Cronbach’s α was .87 for the whole test and ranged from .63 to .79 for its subscales; absolute stability determined by test-retest was .88).

Opis:
This study aims at analyzing health behavior influencing health according to sex. It also aims at evaluating social and economic consequences of those behaviors. Shorter male lifespan comparing to woman may be related to more frequent risky behavior: smoking tobacco, drinking alcohol, drug abuse which lead to dysfunctions of circulatory and respiratory systems as well as cancer, disabilities and in consequence inability to work. The data presented suggest that man more often than women act in risky manners. According to collected data, woman more oft en than man seek specialist ambulatory treatment, medical rehabilitation and dental care. These data may suggest that woman more oft en try to prevent illness than wait until full treatment is necessary. This may be the reason why older woman (65 years old+) less often need expensive hospital treatment.

Opis:
This article is an attempt to explain how to perform healthy behavior as a source of happiness in people of all ages. The study was conducted among 100 students and 100 people aged 60+. The subjects were divided into two equal groups and subjected to a questionnaire survey. One of the groups chose the health behaviors that she considered important for healthy living; the other group chose the ones that actually did. All people were asked to rate their lives in the context of happiness. The analyzes show statistically significant differences between the implementation and the declaration of the application of health behaviors in the group of students as well as those aged 60+. Boys and girls do not differ significantly in the level of perfor-mance of pro-health behaviors except for the use of different diets. This difference does not occur in the elderly. Pro-health behavior does not correlate with happiness in ado-lescents. In older people, happiness is clearly correlated with pro-health behaviors asso-ciated with physical activity. Patients are aware of the need for pro-health behaviors but do not manifest them in their daily lives. In young people, health does not mean happiness. In older people, pro-health behaviors are a source of happiness.

Opis:
Introduction: This study aimed to examine the healthy behaviors in undergraduate students of Physical Education (PE) from Ukraine and Poland in comparison to the control sample of students of other faculties. Material and methods: The group of 564 university students (67% of males), ranging in age from 18 to 41 years (M = 22.05, SD = 2.49), was surveyed using a written form of the Health Behavior Inventory (HBI). The HBI includes the following four subscales: healthy habits, nutrition (HHN), preventive behavior (PB), positive adjustments (PA), and healthy practices (HP). Undergraduates' sample consisted of 25% Ukrainian students of PE faculty, 30% Polish PE students, and 45% Polish sample of other faculty's students. Results: Overall, the undergraduates were presented with a low level of the total HBI. Both Ukrainian and Polish PE students scored higher than their other faculties' peers in the Total HBI, HHN, PB, and PA scales. Women scored significantly higher than men in the Total HBI, HHN, and PB scales. The interaction between faculty and gender was also found in the total HBI, HNN, and HP scores. Conclusions: The Polish Health Education curriculum at universities should be improved to increase PE students' healthy behavior as future teachers. New health promotion programs should be implemented at campuses and universities to maintain and improve a healthy lifestyle among students. These health prevention programs' main aim is to motivate students, be more responsible for their health, engage more in physical activity, learn effective coping with stress strategies, and practice healthy eating habits and other wellness forms.

Introduction: Thanks to preventive medicine and shaping health behaviors such as habits, customs and attitudes towards health, it is possible to control everyday life civilization threats and new outbreaks of diseases. Purpose: To assess health behaviors and level of knowledge of birth control methods among university students in Bialystok. Materials and methods: A total of 222 students of the Bialystok Polytechnic University and Medical University of Bialystok were recruited. The study used a health behavior catalogue by Juczynski and our own questionnaire. Results: The study showed a high percentage of students with poor knowledge of health behaviors. Students of both universities positively assessed their eating habits, mental attitudes, and preventive behaviors. Students of the Bialystok Polytechnic University showed significantly higher scores concerning proper health behaviors. The most common method of contraception were: condoms and contraceptive pills. Students of Medical University were characterized by significantly higher level of knowledge of birth control methods. The vast majority of respondents derived their knowledge of birth control methods from the internet. Conclusions: The results indicate that it is advisable to introduce preventive actions to the study curriculum in order to facilitate formation of proper habits and health behaviors. The level of knowledge among students of the methods of natural birth control is insufficient. It is important to search for various forms and methods to provide young people with objective information according to the latest research.

Objectives: To assess relationship between physical activity (PA) and perceived work ability amongst teachers from the Upper Silesia, Poland. Material and Methods: The study involved 171 teachers (129 women, 42 men) of primary and secondary schools of the Upper Silesia, Poland. Physical education teachers were excluded from the study. The level of PA was estimated using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire short version, and perceived work ability was estimated using Work Ability Index (WAI). Results: Male teachers had significantly higher levels of vigorous-intensity PA, moderateintensity PA, and total weekly PA than female teachers. The recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) met 46% of studied women and 74% of men. Work ability did not differ between male and female teachers. Work ability was related to age, body mass index (BMI), and PA (vigorous-intensity PA, moderate-intensity PA, total weekly PA). The female teachers with excellent or good WAI had significantly higher levels of vigorous-intensity PA, moderate-intensity PA and total weekly PA than female teachers with moderate or poor WAI. Conclusions: The teachers involving in high or moderate intensity PA could improve their work ability. Further studies should focus on relation between physical activity and work ability among teachers of various age and seniority, from both, urban and rural schools. ObjectivesThe physical activity level (PAL) has significantly decreased as a result of the social distancing and lockdown related to the COVID‑19 pandemic, but there is a lack of knowledge on the correlates of PAL during the pandemic. The aim of this research was to examine the influence of pre-pandemic sports participation and substance use and misuse (SUM) on PAL during the COVID‑19 pandemic.Material and MethodsThe study included 661 high-school students from Bosnia and Herzegovina (aged 15–18 years, 292 females). The investigation included 2 testing waves: before the COVID‑19 pandemic (baseline, January 2020) and during the COVID‑19 lockdown (follow-up, April 2020). The variables included PAL as measured by the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Adolescents, sports factors, and SUM.ResultsSports factors at baseline were positively correlated with PALs at both baseline and follow-up. Smoking tobacco negatively affected PALs at both baseline and follow-up. Alcohol consumption was positively correlated with PAL at baseline but had no effect on PAL at follow-up.ConclusionsThis study confirmed the importance of sports participation in maintaining PAL during challenging situations, such as the COVID‑19 lockdown. The substance-specific influence of SUM on PAL before and during the lockdown points to evident social and cultural aspects of SUM behaviors in adolescents. Further studies evidencing the cumulative effects of PAL decline during the lockdown are warranted.

Opis:
Objectives The main aim of this study was to examine the health behavior patterns of soldiers in the Hungarian Defense Forces and to introduce health behavior profiles according to the cluster analysis of lifestyle factors. Material and Methods The soldiers (N = 5475) who underwent health tests in 2011–2015 participated in this cross-sectional study. The factors included in the analysis are the following: age, sex, diseases diagnosed, the body mass index, eating habits, the smoking status, daily physical activity, sporting habits, the presence of psychosomatic symptoms, mental toughness and sleep apnea. The response options for each factor were scored on a linear scale; the minimum number of points available was –47.5 pts and the maximum number was 48.5 pts according to the 24 factors. Finally, the authors created health profiles typical of the pattern with the cluster analysis of the data. Results As a result of the cluster analysis, 16 distinct profiles were found, 10 of which differed significantly (p < 0.05) from each other. The lowest point value achieved was 3.1 pts and the highest was 26.2 pts. The lowest number of points was achieved by the cluster, 1.8% of the sample, with the highest average age (43.5±7.2 years) in which women showed the highest participation (46%). The 2 clusters with the highest numbers of points, 2.9% and 5.5% of the sample, were the 2 groups with the lowest average age (33.7±7.1 years and 34.3±7.9 years). Conclusions The significance of the health profiles obtained during this examination with the Hungarian Defense Forces is that the health promotion intervention opportunities may be determined by clusters, the health behavior factor with which the authors can reach higher health benefits can be chosen and the effectiveness of the interventions carried out can be traced easily.
