This article reports the first meta-analysis of the L2 motivational self system (Dörnyei, 2005, 2009). A total of 32 research reports, involving 39 unique samples and 32,078 language learners, were meta-analyzed. The results showed that the three components of the L2 motivational self system (the ideal L2 self, the ought-to L2 self, and the L2 learning experience) were significant predictors of subjective intended effort (rs = .61, .38, and .41, respectively), though weaker predictors of objective measures of achievement (rs = .20, -.05, and .17). Substantial heterogeneity was also observed in most of these correlations. The results also suggest that the strong correlation between the L2 learning experience and intended effort reported in the literature is, due to substantial wording overlap, partly an artifact of lack of discriminant validity between these two scales. Implications of these results and directions for future research are discussed.

Karl Kolbenheyer urodził się 28 V 1841 r. w Bielsku. Po ukończeniu gimnazjum w Cieszynie podjął studia z języków klasycznych (łaciny i greki) na uniwersytetach w Wiedniu i w Jenie, a następnie pracował jako profesor gimnazjalny w Lewoczy, Cieszynie i Bielsku. Prowadził badania botaniczne, pomiary wysokości bezwzględnej oraz obserwacje meteorologiczne w Beskidzie Zachodnim i w Tatrach, a wyniki swoich prac publikował w wydawnictwach niemieckich, austriackich, polskich i węgierskich. Stwierdził on występowanie gatunków roślin nieznanych przedtem w rejonie Cieszyna i Bielska. Wykonane przez niego pomiary wysokości charakterystycznych punktów krajobrazu (ponad 500), były wykorzystywane do celów kartograficznych. Od roku 1866 był członkiem Komisji Fizjograficznej Towarzystwa Naukowego Krakowskiego, później Akademii Umiejętności w Krakowie, która wspierała finansowo jego działalność terenową. Był jednym z założycieli niemieckiej organizacji turystycznej Beskidenverein i kierował jej oddziałem w Bielsku. Opracował dwa przewodniki turystyczne: przewodnik po Tatrach – Die hohe Tatra, wydany dziesięciokrotnie oraz przewodnik po Beskidach – Führer durch die Beskiden…, wydany dwukrotnie. Przyczyniły się one do znacznego upowszechnienia turystyki. Zmarł 1 II 1901 r. i został pochowany na Starym Cmentarzu Ewangelickim w Bielsku.
Karl Kolbenheyer was born on May 28, 1841 in Bielsko. After attending a lower secondary school in Cieszyn, he began studies in classical languages (Greek and Latin) at universities in Vienna and Jena, then he worked as a teacher in lower secondary schools in Lewocza, Cieszyn, and Bielsko. The research he undertook included botanical studies, measurements of absolute elevation, and meteorological observations in the Western Beskids as well as in the Tatra Mountains. The results of the studies were printed in German, Austrian, Polish, and Hungarian publications. He found species of plants not known earlier to exist in the area of Cieszyn and Bielsko. The measurements of elevations he made of characteristic points of landscape (more than 500) were used for cartographic purposes. From 1866 on, he was a member of Physiographic Commission of Kraków Scientific Society, and later of the Academy of Arts and Sciences, which financially supported his field work. Karl Kolbenheyer was one of the founders of the Beskidenverein – a German tourist organisation – and managed its branch in Bielsko. He prepared two tourist guides: the guide to Tatra Mountains – Die hohe Tatra (ten editions), and to the Beskids – Führer durch die Beskiden… (two editions). These guides contributed to the remarkable propagation of tourism. Karl Kolbenheyer died on February 1, 1901, and was buried at the Old Evangelical Cemetery in Bielsko.

The paper concerns the idea of entrepreneurial ethics in scholastic texts. The sources, methods of research, and general historical preliminaries are discussed. In the methodology of the research Max Weber’s categories of economic exchange, entrepreneurship and entrepreneur are invoked. Medieval notions and concepts, such as iustus mercator, industria, and bonum commune are analyzed in the context of these socio-economic categories. Texts from the middle of the XIIIth century to the middle of XVth century are taken into consideration, in particular such canonists and theologians as Chiaro of Florence (Casus fratris Claris), Thomas Aquinas, Giles of Lesines, Henry of Ghent, Peter Olivi, Matthew of Cracow, Bernardine of Siena, and Antonine of Florence. The merchant’s guide by Benko Kutruljević(Benedetto Cotrugli) is considered too, as an example of reception of scholastic thought at a more practical level. In the topic discussed the particularity of Latin Christianity in the late medieval period, in comparison to other epochs and civilizations, is linked to the new idea of work and to certain cultural phenomena, including: the ethical focus of scholastic doctors, the idea of volunteer poverty, and Christian concept of the gift (referred to particularly in the Sermon on the Mount: Luke 6, 20–45). The system of terms and notions – by which entrepreneurship and economic activity were defi ned – influenced in some way the mentality and social practice. In practice, the evaluation of entrepreneurial activity was related to different systems of norms, which was expressed by the notion of forum. This could be: Roman law (forum civilis), canons, and practical theology (forum Dei). In the final case of forum Dei, the individual confession, introduced by the Church in the XIIIth century, was of crucial significance.

Opis:
Guides (linear plain bearings) of reciprocating motion are widely used in many areas of human activity. However, at present there are no reasonable methods for their calculation, in particular metal-polymer guides. The author's method of contact strength calculation of cylindrical metal-polymer sliding guides is presented in the article. The effect of load, bushing diameter and radial clearance on the maximum contact pressures and their distribution in the guide was studied on the example of epoxy-based polymer composite material Moglice of the German company DIAMANT Metallplastic GmbH, which is used to restore tribotechnical sliding systems elements. Quantitative and qualitative regularities of dependence of contact pressures on the accepted factors of influence are established: at loading increase four times the maximum contact pressures and contact angles will increase twice irrespective of change of sizes of a radial clearance and diameter of a base; increasing the base diameter leads to a directly proportional decrease in maximum contact pressures; doubling the radial clearance leads to a -fold increase in pressure, regardless of changes in the magnitude of the load and the diameter of the base. Regularities of change of contact parameters from the specified factors are given graphically.

Opis:
A design of microwave installation for energy concentration on a surface of a heated object is proposed. In the installation a dipole lattice on the basis of a single-wire transmission line is used which is located inside of reflector in a form of specular parabolic conducting cylinder. The heated object is placed in the area of microwave energy concentration. In the article a waveguide field of a surface wave in a reradiation mode is explored. The surface wave is reradiated by a group of vibrators coaxial with the waveguide wire. Results of experimental studies of field distribution along the waveguide operating in various modes are presented. The possibility of efficiency increase in reradiated field and its adjustment by contactless movement of reflector is shown.

The aim of the article is to compare selected Internet guides for teachers and parents. The results of a comparative analysis made by the authors are as follows: institutional senders prevail in terms of a category of a guide’s sender; a creation of a reality shared by its sender and receiver takes place in the guides; the language of the guides is used mainly in the informative and persuasive functions; there is a clear tendency to exaggerate threats posed by the participation in the digital world at the cost of recognizing opportunities for development. The authors of the article conclude with the statement that the discourse of the analysed guides supports traditional approach to perceiving and upbringing of children and young people.

The article shows how the 'touch' concept is presented in culture and communication. This phenomenon has not been the subject of lingual studies yet, however it has been only a few articles about this. The sense of touch plays an important role in contemporary world. It comes to be the most important way to build doctor-patient relation. The purpose of this text is to show the material extracted from old medical guides (ninetieth/twentieth centuries) which presents ‘tactile’ communication between doctor and patient, techniques and ways of cure, describes the doctor-patient contact, and analysis of this material. Cognitive classification of speech acts was helpful in to show, which directive acts are present in old medical guides (e.g. prohibitions, commands, manual procedure). First of all there are obliging acts in the pragmalingual analysis. It is worth noting that in the material show directive acts too. These acts cause pressure to recipient and have to get to do something by him (e.g. a lot of prohibitions, commands and also manual procedure of touch of the patient).

Informacja o treściach zawartych w poradnikach chrześcijańskich doradców może być przydatna dla osób odpowiedzialnych za wychowanie młodego pokolenia: rodziców, nauczycieli, katechetów, księży i pracowników duszpasterstwa rodzin.
Bringing up children is the first, basic, important, but also very difficult task of parents. Educational guides written by Christian advisers are a great help in bringing up children. The chapter presents the general principles of education formulated by Saint. Jan Chryzostom, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and such authors as R. Cambell, G. Chapman, J. Dobson, J. McDowell, M. Dziewiecki, A. Urbaniak, M. and P. Wołochowicz. A specific and detailed help in the process of upbringing is to pay attention to the development of love, the growth in the virtue of chastity and the creation of favorable living conditions in accordance with the faith. Information on the contents of the guides of Christian advisers may be useful for those responsible for raising the young generation: parents, teachers, catechists, priests and pastoral workers of families.

Examples of the application of the confluent hypergeometric functions in miscellaneous areas of the theoretical physics are presented. It is suggested these functions to be utilized as a universal means for solution of a large number of problems, leading to: cylindrical, incomplete gamma, Coulomb wave, Airy, Kelvin, Bateman, Weber's parabolic cylinder, logarithmic-integral and exponential integral functions, generalized Laguerre, Poisson-Charlier and Hermit polynomials, integral sine and cosine, Fresnel and probability integrals, etc. (whose complete list is given), which are their special cases. The employment of such an approach would permit to develop general methods for integration of these tasks, to generalize results of different directions of physics and to find the common features of various phenomena, governed by equations, pertaining to the same family. Emphasis is placed here on the use of the Kummer function in the field of microwaves: the cases of normal and slow rotationally symmetric TE modes propagation in the azimuthally magnetized circular ferrite waveguide are considered. Lemmas on the properties of the argument, real and imaginary parts, and positive purely imaginary (real) zeros of the function mentioned in the complex (real) domain, of importance in the solution of boundary-value problem stated for normal (slow) waves, are substantiated analytically or numerically. A theorem for the identity of positive purely imaginary and real zeros of the complex respectively real Kummer function for certain parameters, is proved numerically. Tables and graphs support the results established. The terms for wave transmission are obtained as four bilaterally open intervals of variation of the quantities, specifying the fields. It turns out that the normal (slow) modes may exist in one (two) region(s). The theoretically predicted phase curves for the first waves of the two TE sets examined show that the structure explored is suitable for ferrite control components design.

Artykuł prezentuje aspekty techniczne, które są istotne podczas wykonywania oraz projektowania zintegrowanych układów mikroprzepływowo-mikrofalowych. Zastosowanie techniki mikrofalowej w układach mikroprzepływowych otwiera nowe możliwości, które stanowią rozwiązanie części problemów występujących w układach mikroprzepływowych, takich jak wykorzystanie i dostarczanie energii cieplnej. Ponadto, mikrofale stanowią atrakcyjną alternatywę dla spotykanych obecnie metod charakteryzacji parametrów substancji umieszczonych w kanale mikroukładu. W związku z tym, przedstawiono typowe obszary zastosowań techniki mikrofalowej w modułach mikroprzepływowych. Opisano typowe podłoża, które są stosowane podczas wytwarzania wspomnianych układów, wraz z wyszczególnieniem ich cech charakterystycznych i porównaniem. Wskazano na korzyści płynące z zastosowania ceramiki LTCC (ang. Low temperature cofired ceramics, niskotemperaturowa ceramika współwypalana), jako materiału podłożowego pod układy mikroprzepływowo-mikrofalowe. Wyszczególniono możliwe do wykonania techniką LTCC typy prowadnic falowych wraz z odpowiednim położeniem mikrokanału w ceramicznym podłożu oraz dokonano krótkiego podsumowania.
This paper descries aspects, which are significant during the process of designing and developing of integrated microfluidic-microwave modules. The application of microwaves in microfluidic modules ensures the new possibilities, such as a providing a heat to the selected parts of a microsystem. Furthermore, the microwaves are the alternative solution of characterization of parameters the substance in the microchannel. Therefore, the usual fields of microwave technique in microfluidic modules are presented. The most used substrates in mentioned devices are described and compared. The benefits of using the LTCC as the substrate of microfluidic-microwave devices are indicated. Furthermore, the most common used wave guides integrated with the geometry of microchannels in LTCC modules are presented.

The aim of this article is an interpretative analysis of savoir-vivre guide by Zofia Stryjeńska. I analyse that in the context of other good manners guides, social reality, opinion polls and also life and work of great painter. What is interesting for me is: the understanding of savoir-vivre by Stryjeńska, the values, attitudes and gestures connected with savoir-vivre, and if Stryjeńska brings something new to this or she only repeats what other authors say. I focus not only on contents of this guide but also on its formal aspects (construction, style of expression, graphic design). One may draw three main conclusions on this publication. Firstly, Stryjeńska skillfully combine high society culture and social egalitarianism. Secondly, this is – like in art déco – geometric synthesis of what is classical and traditional and what is modern and international. Thirdly, this is anticipating of some issues, bringing some themes which had not been interesting for savoir-vivre experts so far and now they are interesting for people according opinion polls. All these features make Zofia Stryjeńska’s guide original and different than any others, both prewar and postwar, savoir-vivre guides.
Celem artykułu jest interpretatywna analiza poradnika savoir-vivre’u Zofii Stryjeńskiej w kontekście innych poradników dobrego wychowania, realiów społecznych oraz badań opinii, a także życia i twórczości wielkiej malarki. Interesuje mnie, jak artystka rozumie savoir-vivre, jakie wartości, postawy i gesty wiąże z tym zagadnieniem oraz czy wnosi nową jakość do tej tematyki, czy wpisuje się w ówczesne standardy. Zwracam uwagę nie tylko na treść poradnika, ale również na jego stronę formalną (konstrukcję, styl wypowiedzi, szatę graficzną). Trzy główne wnioski, jakie można wysnuć z analizy tej publikacji, to po pierwsze umiejętne połączenie kultury wyższych sfer z egalitaryzmem społecznym. Dokonany przegląd literatury geograficznej dotyczącej ziemi uniejowskiej, dostępnej w księgozbiorze Biblioteki Geograficznej UŁ, dokumentuje różnorodność problemów badawczych podejmowanych przez geografów łódzkiego ośrodka uniwersyteckiego. Intensyfikacja zainteresowań naukowych tym terenem nastąpiła po 1989 r., kiedy to w wyniku transformacji polityczno-ustrojowej Polska stała się z czasem członkiem Unii Europejskiej i mogła aplikować o fundusze niezbędne dla przebudowy kraju. Uniejów, na terenie którego odkryto złoża wód geotermalnych, stał się w tym czasie beneficjantem wzrostu gospodarczego, a zachodzące w strukturze miasta zmiany funkcjonalno-przestrzenne stały się przedmiotem badań i opracowań teoretycznych.
The review of geographic literature concerning the Uniejów region, available in the Geographic Library of the University of Lodz, documents the diversity of research problems undertaken by geographers at Lodz University. Intensification of scientific interest in this area occurred after 1989, when Poland, as a result of political transformation, became a member of the European Union and could apply for funds necessary for the reconstruction of the country. Uniejów, where geothermal water deposits were discovered, became at that time the beneficiary of economic growth, and functional changes in the structure of the town became the subject of research and theoretical studies.

Peripheral nerve injuries are one of frequent cause of disability. Results of surgical procedures are not still completely satisfactory, though fast development of microsurgical technician improve their efficiency. One of the major problems in surgical treatment of the peripheral nerve injuries is ends coaptation in the case of large loss of nerve tissue. And so finding substitute implants not rejected by the organism for the recipient and providing with the success is necessary of regeneration. Recently, several synthetic nerve guide implants have been introduced and approved for clinical use to replace autologous transplants. This alternative therapy is based on pioneering studies with experimental nerve guides. This paper present a review of published studies involving biodegradable nerve guides.

The key aim of this article is to provide an interdisciplinary look at tourism and its diachronic textual threads bequeathed by the ‘proto-tourist’ texts of the Greek travel author Pausanias. Using the periegetic, travel texts from his voluminous Description of Greece (2nd century CE) as a springboard for our presentation, we intend to show how the textual strategies employed by Pausanias have been received and still remain at the core of contemporary series of travel guides first authored by Karl Baedeker (in the 19th century). After Baedeker, Pausanias’ textual travel tropes, as we will show, still inform the epistemology of modern-day tourism; the interaction of travel texts with travel information and distribution channels produces generic hybrids, and the ancient Greek travel authors have paved the way for the construction of networks, digital storytelling and global tourist platforms.
