Opis:
The paper examines the latest trends in theoretical research into possible interactions between institutional change and economic policy in the process of growth. Even though the article focuses on changes in the theoretical approach to economic growth and development, the author analyzes these issues in combination with actual economic processes. New trends and processes that have taken place over the past decade or so have led to radical changes in economic theory. This is primarily because the previously used and recommended tools were inefficient. The author describes past experiences that defy traditional interpretation and call for a more adequate approach. The article shows that institutional change is seen as an important factor not only in development economics, but also in empirical studies of economic growth conducted as part of mainstream economics. The author’s analysis of the current stage of research shows that, contrary to expectations, the differences between economic policy and institutional change are still unclear; they are mostly intuitive and arbitrary in nature, and the terms themselves are either imprecise or, in some cases, left completely undefined. This means that researchers have insufficiently examined the complementariness, substitutability and relative autonomy of institutions with regard to economic policy, the author concludes. Consequently, in the coming years, those conducting research into economic growth should analyze the role of institutions and economic policy with greater precision, Wojtyna says.

This paper develops a static model of endogenous task-based technical progress to study how factor scarcity induces technological progress and changes in factor prices. The equilibrium technology is multi-dimensional and not strongly factorsaving in the sense of Acemoglu (2010). Nevertheless, labour scarcity induces labour productivity growth. There is a  weak but no strong absolute equilibrium bias. This model provides a plausible interpretation of the famous contention of Hicks (1932) about the role of factor prices and factor endowments for induced innovations. It may serve as a microfoundation for canonical macro-economic models. Moreover, it accommodates features like endogenous factor supplies and a binding minimum wage.

The relationship between tree-ring growth and climate in Quercus brantii, a widespread and dominant tree species in Zagros-Anti-Taurus Mountains, was investigated by both age-dependent and independent approaches. A total number of 118 trees were sampled in a region where severe Mediterranean climate prevailed. An overall chronology plus three age-dependent chronologies of <80, 80 to 160 and >160 years old were constructed to study growth-climate relationships based on an integrated approach of principle component stepwise regression followed by complementary response function analysis. High age heterogeneity of overall chronology diminished its climatic signals and growth priority was significantly presented in the models. Biennial and triennial precipitation variations were highly related with annual tree ring growth of young and old oaks, respectively. However, hot growing season negatively affected all age-dependent chronology indices. By increasing tree ages the negative effects of warm autumn prior to growth decreased and late winter fall became a limiting climatic factor in old trees. Results of response function analysis also revealed that all oak trees from each age classes were sensitive to increasing April temperature. It’s anticipated that, regarding the trends of late frost, this species will face with many challenges in this region and similar areas.

This article concerns research conducted on the casual connections between modern global migratory processes and basic socio-economic and safety indexes for countries around the world countries. On the basis of new official dataset there was developed a cluster model of countries distributed according to the basic indicators which characterize migratory streams (emigration/ immigration), safety and macroeconomic indexes, related to the international migration. It is established that, in general, people are moving to safer countries that can provide them with better opportunities and social guarantees. The factor models for emigration and immigration processes, and international migration in general have been constructed. The main factors that prompt people to change their place of residence and the economic and safe effects of unprecedented levels of international migration are revealed. The empirical research examined in this paper confirmed the causal link between the volumes of international migration flows and the growth of Foreign Direct Investment in home countries and the reduction of security in host countries. The lack of statistical connection between immigration and emigration flows has been established.

Climate change is causing changes in tree species performance and distribution, impacting breeding programme effectiveness. Our aim was to analyse the effects of provenance and climatic factors on the annual ring density of Masson pine (Pinus massoniana Lamb.) at different experimental sites and potential breeding strategies that may be developed in response to future climate change. The study trees represented provenances originating from the western, east-central, northern, and southern regions of P. massoniana distribution in China. The wood density differed significantly among provenances. A multisite variance analysis test showed that the type B correlation coefficients for ring density at the two sites stud- ied were less than 0.8, indicating an interaction effect of genotype by environment (G×E) on tree ring density. Climatic factors directly affected the wood density properties. At Chun’an (CA), the maximum latewood density (MXD) and minimum earlywood density (MND) were positively correlated with absolute maximum temperatures in August and May of the current growing season, respectively. At Taizi Mountain (TZS), MXD was significantly positively correlated with absolute maximum temperature in September of the current year and significantly negatively correlated with precipitation in June. MND was significantly positively correlated with absolute maximum temperature in May of the current year and significantly negatively correlated with precipitation in April. The climatic effects on P. massoniana wood density differed among seed-source origins. This study showed that ring density characteristics differed significantly among provenances, and provenance selection could promote wood density. MXD and MND exhibited significant genotype-by-environment interaction effects, and significant correlations were found between ring density and temperature and precipitation conditions. These findings suggest that climatic factors and site condi- tions in addition to genetics could be strong drivers of wood density variation, and/or that wood density is a highly plastic trait.

This paper generalizes the dynamic growth model with wealth accumulation, technological change and environmental change by Zhang (2012) by making all the parameters as time-dependent parameters. The model treats physical capital accumulation, knowledge creation and utilization, and environmental change as endogenous variables. It synthesizes the basic ideas of the neoclassical growth theory, Arrow’s learning-by-doing model and the traditional dynamic models of environmental change within a comprehensive framework. The behavior of the household is described with an alternative approach to household behavior. We simulated the model to demonstrate existence of equilibrium points, motion of the dynamic system, and oscillations due to different exogenous shocks.

By 2050, global crop demand is projected to rise by 60-110%. Crop yields have also been impacted by cli mate change in some nations, and these impacts are likely to continue. To prevent the influence of climate change on crop output, it is critical to adjust planting times in weather-related open fields to meet food security concerns. Present study was carried out at Experimental Farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Al-Azhar University, Assiut, Egypt, during two successive seasons, 2019 and 2020. It was aimed to study the effect of different sowing times (1st and 15th October, 1st and 15th November), and plant spacings (25, 20, and 15 cm) on growth, fruit yield, and oil production of caraway (Carum carvi L.) plants. The results showed that sowing caraway plants on 15th October with plant spacing of 25 cm gave the highest dry weight (72.6 g∙plant-1), fresh weight (266.15 g∙plant-1), seed yield (37.43 g∙plant-1), and oil yield (0.659 cm 3∙plant-1). The maximum umbels (50.83 number per plant) and essential oil (1.78%) were also recorded in the plants receiving same treatment. On the other hand, plants sown at 15th November with spacing of 15 cm exhibited the minimum values of recorded traits. While the highest value of plant height gave with sowing caraway plants on 15th October with plant spacing of 15 cm (135.35 cm). In conclusion, the plants sowed on October 15th with a maximum plant spacing of 25 cm had the highest values of the evaluated morphological, biochemical, and yield attributes of caraway.

Neoliberalism is a hegemonic ideology covering all areas of life almost all over the world. Capitalism is a set of economic practices that is linked to neoliberalism. Globalisation, in turn, ensures that neoliberal capitalism reaches every country and builds interdependence. As deregulation and depoliticization progresses, democratic control of this social and economic system diminishes. This results in the degeneration of the system, increasing greed and maximising profits at all costs. The complications are compounded by climate change and the depletion of fossil fuel sources. However, there are concepts that can replace neoliberal capitalism. These include universal basic income, de-growth, a green ‚New Deal’ or a vision of a world without work.

Opis:
In this study, a macroeconomic model and the multicriteria approach are used to analyze the impact of the enforced greenhouse gas (GHG) emission limits on economic development and future consumption in a small open economy country, like Poland. The following questions are considered: how economic transformation, connected with adjustment of the national economy to the policy limiting GHG emission would proceed? what may be the consequences of the enforced emission limits for the economic development and future consumption? The model answers these questions by presenting time trajectories, describing the evolution of three sectors, which influence GHG emission, namely those producing intermediary inputs, consumer goods, and investment goods. The sectors interact via markets of the relevant goods. The model takes into account the inertial behavior of the large-scale dynamic system, as well as social and political resistance to changes. It also indicates technological changes in the form of time-varying shares of two technologies, namely the GHG emission intensive and the GHG emission avoiding ones. Two competing objectives are considered in the multicriteria analysis, i.e. maximization of consumption and minimization of GHG emission. The costs of pursuing the GHG limiting policy are assessed in terms of lost consumption. The multicriteria analysis is performed with the use of the derived representation of the Pareto optimal outcomes. Computational results are presented for the case of Poland. They show three phases in a transition period, early growth on the basis of existing assets in the initial years, a depression phase, where technological changes mainly occur, and a period of renewed growth. They are followed by a steady development under new emission conditions.
