The contribution represents a fragment of an intended Lexicon of grammatical-semantic features. It presents only very general properties as components of grammatical categories and the results of their presence or non-presence for category value interpretation and for (in)compatibility of language means. Grammatical features of a lexical unit can be described with the help of the tagset, i.e., analytical morphological label. Similarly, it is possible to describe a complete grammeme on the principle of fractals, including inner structure of each grammatical category and their values with the help of sets of grammatical-semantic properties. Grammatical-semantic properties bound on lexical forms are not isolated from lexical-semantic features: the first can be considered as a result of grammaticalization of the latter. From the chosen point of view, the construction of grammar from a semantic basis seems to be as a multi-level phenomenon to such a level in which grammatical-semantic properties are based on similarity and contrast in the area of lexical-semantic properties.

The present paper deals with verbal aspect in Polish and its grammatical semantics. It is assumed that aspect in Slavic languages in general and in Polish in particular is a twodimensional category – grammatical and lexical. Moreover, as regards meaning both grammatical and lexical aspectuality can be distinguished. In the grammatical sphere of the semantics of aspect we indicate some terminological deficits in that the grammatical aspectuality is not limited only to imperfectivity and perfectivity but it also encompasses its aoristic nature. Thus, we propose to call the imperfective aspect the procesual aspect, while the perfective aspect – non-procesual aspect. This is because non-procesuality implies both perfectivity and aoristic nature.

The present paper deals with the problem of assigning the grammatical gender in insect neunes, which has not been investigated so far. We decided to apply the semantic criterion taking into account the views and opinions shared by such grammarians as Consentius, Grimm and Wienold. The problems is discussed referring to the criteria of insect classification. The insects, divided into groups, were studied in terms of grammatical gender. The clear and definite advantage of one gender provided the basis for assigning a given grammatical gender to this group. The most explicit and unambiguous result was obtained while applying the criterion of „Way of living”. Following this criterion, it was found that only insects of the feminine gender live in organized communities.

W artykule skupiono się na analizie gramatyki Bronisława Taraszkiewicza, jej cech oraz roli jako bodźca do nauki języka białoruskiego dla nowych użytkowników. W tekście rozpatruje się gramatyczne rozbieżności między dwoma wariantami białoruskiego języka literackiego, które mają nieformalne nazwy taraszkiewica i narkamaǔka. Określone i usystematyzowane przez I. Klimowa opozycje gramatyczne są analizowane na tle gramatyk języka białoruskiego publikowanych, poczynając od połowy lat pięćdziesiątych XX wieku. Z jednej strony pozwoliło to zwrócić uwagę na pewną bezpodstawność zaproponowanych opozycji gramatycznych, z drugiej zaś ukazać obecność deskrypcyjnego ujęcia B. Taraszkiewicza w opisie dubletów gramatycznych przez autorów późniejszych gramatyk akademickich.
The article is devoted to B. Tarashkevich’s grammar, its hallmarks and role-stimulus in studying the Belarusian language by “new” speakers of Belarusian. The grammatical norms are considered, under which two versions of Belarusian literary language, that have unofficial names taraškevica and narkamaǔka, are opposed. Grammatical oppositions defined and systematized by I. Klimov are analyzed in the context of the academic grammars of the Belarusian language which have been published since the mid 1950s. This approach has allowed, on the one hand, to indicate a certain inaccuracy in unilaterally opposed grammatical rules; on the other hand, to reveal the succession of B. Tarashkevich’s descriptive approach by the authors of grammars when delivering grammatical variants.

The article presents considerations concerning the essence and the scope of the concept of the natural gender of nouns. The author advocates its grammatical categorisation – instead of the semantic categorisation dominating in the literature. This means that the superior category in natural gender should be grammatical gender (hence the proposed compound term: natural grammatical gender), and not a semantic feature. In a simple (prototypical) categorisation, natural gender pertains to masculine nouns with male meaning and feminine nouns with female meaning. The article identifies five types of possible extension of this concept:1. the isolation of the neuter natural gender;2. the attribution of natural gender to nouns with inconsistent semantics of sex;3. the recognition of the natural gender which is incompatible with grammatical gender (this extension is onlypossible when natural gender is treated as a semantic feature);4. the analysis of all nouns that denote sexual beings with regard to natural gender;5. the isolation of subcategories of natural masculine nouns (natural genders of the second degree).Complimentary to the narrow understanding of natural gender, the author proposes to use an antonymous term – “unnatural gender” to designate such kind of grammatical gender of personal (or animate) nouns that is not in compliance with their semantic feature of sex (e.g., CHŁOPISKO [A CHAP], BABSZTYL [A HAG]).

The paper discusses the phenomenon of explicitation of interclausal cohesive relations in a translation. The study was devoted to adjustments (pertaining e.g. to conjunctions and ellipsis) introduced by Maryla Laurent to her French translation of the novel Wszystkie języki świata [All languages of the world] by Zbigniew Mentzel. Conducted analyses have shown that additions and modifications of cohesive conjunctions are not determined by linguistic asymmetry of the target language, but they comply with the strategy of adapting the translation to meet expectations of the French audience regarding discourse and style.

The article presents the issue of nouns with a problematic relation between semantic reference and inflexional indicator of grammatical number, that is, such nouns which have only plural form while referring to a single object. The author analyses changes in adapting inflexional indicators in cases when belonging to the group of nouns with both singular and plural form or to the group of pluralia tantum makes a significant difference in meaning. It is one of the most difficult problems of Polish declination. The grammatical category of number, which accumulates important grammatical and semantic information, is difficult not only for foreigners studying the Polish language, but also for native speakers. The author of the article concentrates on such pluralia tantum that are being used either in singular or plural form at the moment: warsztaty/warsztat (workshop), ćwiczenia/ćwiczenie (seminar), zajęcia/zajęcie (calss), badania/badanie (research). The author tries to explain why pluralia tantum, such as ćwiczenia, zajęcia, warsztaty, badania are being used increasingly often as nouns with both singular and plural forms by the young generation of academics. The explanation is based on dictionary analyses, system considerations, as well as semantic and social analysis.

Grammatical Evolution (GE) is a form of Genetic Programming (GP) based on Context-Free Grammar (CF Grammar). Due to the use of grammars, GE is capable of creating syntactically correct solutions. GE uses a genotype encoding and is necessary to apply a Mapping Process (MP) to obtain the phenotype representation. There exist some well-known MPs in the state-of-art like Breadth-First (BF), Depth-First (DF), among others. These MPs select the codons from the genotype in a sequential manner to do the mapping. The present work proposes a variation in the selection order for genotype’s codons; to achieve that, it is applied a random permutation for the genotype’s codons order-taking in the mapping. The proposal’s results were compared using a statistical test with the results obtained by the traditional BF and DF using the Symbolic Regression Problem (SRP) as a benchmark.

The assignment of grammatical gender is among the most intriguing problems in human language. In this paper we discuss the question of semantic versus morphological motivation for gender assignment and agreement by analyzing the grammatical gender of one of the key cultural concepts, i.e. death. In our analysis, we consider how the grammatical category influences conceptualizations of death in cultures and discourses of various nations. We will refer to the images of death in three different languages and cultures: English, German and Polish. Finally, we will illustrate the crosslinguistic problems potentially caused by such differing conceptualizations by analyzing translation challenges connected with the noun death on examples from contemporary popular literature in those three languages. It seems that at the discourse level the semantic cues can influence grammatical gender and override morphological motivation, even in the case of such an important concept as death. The personification of death is a type of hybrid that allows agreement patterns which would be considered incorrect from a purely grammatical point of view.
Klasyfikacja rzeczowników pod względem rodzaju gramatycznego jest jednym z najbardziej interesujących zagadnień dotyczących języka. W poniższym arytkule rozważamy problem rozróżnienia pomiędzy semantyczną a morfologiczno-składniową motywacją rodzaju gramatycznego na podstawie jednego z kluczowych pojęć kulturowych: śmierci. W naszej analizie zastanawiamy się jak kategoria gramatyczna rodzaju wpływa na konceptualizacje śmierci w kulturze i dyskursie. Odwołujemy się do przedstawienia śmierci w trzech kulturach i trzech językach: angielskim, niemieckim i polskim. Na podstawie fragmentów współczesnej literarury popularnej, pokazujemy jakie problemy tłumaczeniowe może sprawiać istnienie tych różnych konceptualizacji. Wydaje się, że na poziomie dyskursu informacje semantyczne mogą wpłynąć na rodzaj gramatyczny nawet w przypadku tak ważnego pojęcia jak śmierć. Personifikacja śmierci jest rodzajem hybrydy, która dopuszcza różne warianty składni zgody, uznawane za niepoprawne na poziome opisu czysto językowego.

This article deals with the analysis of the grammeme transposition as a manifestation of the grammar transposition and the whole language one generally. The grammeme transposition is one of realisation method of the grammatical transposition and is realised between components of different grammatical categories. The terms of realisation and the ways of identification of the grammeme transposition have been analysed at the work. The author referes to the scientific approach which is focused on a comprehensive study of the linguistic phenomena; the formal grammatical analysis; functional and communicative parameters as well as lexical-semantic parameters of grammatical categories and grammatical units. This approach to the analysis of linguistic facts is the conceptual framework for the researching of the grammeme transposition (as well as the language transposition generally).
Статья посвящена анализу граммемной транспозиции как одного из проявлений переходности в языке, разновидности грамматической транспозиции и языковой транспозиции в общем. Рассмотрен вопрос сути граммемной транспозиции, ее специфические черты и черты, объединяющие ее с иными видами грамматической транспозиции, проанализированы способы определения прямого и переносного, транспонированного, значения грамматической формы, контекстуальные средства транспозиции. Граммемная транспозиция в данной статье рассмотрена на примере грамматической категории времени глагола в украинском языке.

The aim of the article is to provide a qualitative description of the errors committed by pupils with mild intellectual disabilities. The discussed issue has not yet been the subject of a scientific description from a linguistic point of view. The analysis of errors was based on Andrzej Markowski's classification with small additions from Zygmunt Saloni’s classification. Due to the volumetric framework, the article is limited to discussing grammatical and lexical errors. The research showed that pupils with mild intellectual disabilities make similar errors as those with typical development. No qualitative differences were noted between the study group and the control group, only quantitative ones.

Differentiation of grammatical variants is an important orthological problem. However, traditionally it is solved without awareness of arguments, which are arbitrarily used as normalizers while identifying differential properties of grammatical variants. The paper shows the possibility and necessity of the orthological application of the argumentation theory. In the context of grammatical variants differentiation, the normalizers use every possible universal and non-universal arguments except those appealed to someone’s intuition and belief. Yet as the most convincing orthological argument should be recognized a combination of direct empiric verification and logical grounding, which, nevertheless, is not always ideal. The quality of this combination is provided by the quality of perception, which has three degrees: syncretic, superficial and alternative perception in its two varieties – imperative and dispositive. The first two degrees determine the relativity of logical grounding whereas the alternative-imperative and alternative-dispositive perception specifies its absoluteness. The direct empiric verification of contextual properties, distinguishing between grammatical variants and absolute logical grounding of the choice of a grammatical variant both based on the evidence of the alternative perception are an orthologically ideal argument.

Earlier research showed that the progressive aspect in Dutch extends duration estimations for short events and shortens the perception of inherently medium and long events. In the study reported here, we conducted an experiment examining whether the same effect can be observed in Polish, a language with a morphologically realised perfective vs. imperfective distinction. We confronted two views on grammatical aspect. The first one postulates that English simple past tense verbs of telic predicates introduce a silent PERF operator and that the Polish imperfective is equivalent to the English progressive. According to the second view, there is no PERF operator in simple past clauses in Dutch (and by analogy also in English), while perfective eventualities in Polish should be perceived as shorter than imperfective events which view the event from the inside without imposing any boundaries on its runtime. The results of this study show that the second view is more plausible, suggesting that languages vary in the interpretation of event duration depending on whether they have a clear grammatical aspect or whether such distinctions are less articulated.

The study is based on the assumption that human cognition is closely linked with natural language. One can therefore ask what conceptual content has found its way into linguistic expression, in what form it is expressed, and what motivates that expression.The study is concerned with the linguistic manifestation of the concept of number (one of the most important categories of human thinking), through grammatical (morphological, syntactic and lexical), highly conventionalised means. Elementary numerical meanings encoded in Polish include ‘one’ and ‘more than one’ (in former stages of the language also ‘two’), corresponding to first numerical concepts comprehensible to humans (both in the historical and the individual sense). Those meanings are obligatorily expressed by all speakers of Polish and their markers are inflectional morphemes that play a role – in accordance with the norm – in all inflected parts of speech. That numerical opposition is also broadly expressed at the world-formational plane: there exist special morphemes that code the singularity of something (e.g. grosz-ek ‘pea’) or the collectivity of items (e.g. pierz-e ‘feathers; plumage’). Similarly, specific morphemes accentuate the singularity of an event (e.g. kaszl-ną-ć ‘to cough once’) or the multitude (multiplication) of actions (e.g. na-obierać ‘peel a lot of’, po-wynosić ‘take out many/all’ the items). The importance of the concept of number in Polish is also attested by the existence of numerals. The various degrees of precision that they express, e.g. the so-called definite numerals (trzy ‘three’, piętnaście ‘fifteen’) and indefinite (kilka ‘a few’, dużo ‘many’, tyle ‘that many’) correspond to the differences in the number and needs of the persons engaged in communication. The different inflectional paradigms and related syntactic functions of different numeral types stems from the need to link, in sentences, numbers with names of entities and events – that need, in turn, shows that a wide range of phenomena are perceived and conceptualised in numerical terms.
Podstawę opracowania stanowi założenie, że czynności poznawcze człowieka pozostają w ścisłym związku z używanym przez niego językiem naturalnym. Pozwala to stawiać pytania o to, jakie treści pojęciowe zostały ujęzykowione, w jaki sposób, w jakich formach – zakodowane w języku oraz jaka jest tego motywacja.W artykule przedstawiono ujęzykowione treści pojęcia liczby (jednej z ważniejszych kategorii ludzkiego myślenia) wyrażane środkami gramatycznymi (morfologicznymi, składniowymi i leksykalnymi), które cechuje wysoki stopień konwencjonalności i kategorialności. Elementarne znaczenia liczbowe kodowane w polszczyźnie to ‘jeden’ i ‘więcej niż jeden’ (a w dawnej polszczyźnie także ‘dwa’) odpowiadające pierwszym pojęciom numerycznym zrozumiałym dla człowieka (w aspekcie zarówno historycznym, jak też indywidualnym). Sensy te są wyrażane obligatoryjnie przez wszystkich mówiących tym językiem, ich nośnikiem są odpowiednie morfemy fleksyjne przyjmowane – zgodnie z normą – przez wszystkie odmienne części mowy. Wskazane przeciwstawienie jest też szeroko wyrażane na płaszczyźnie słowotwórczej. Istnieją specjalne morfemy, które pozwalają wyrazić znaczenie pojedynczości przedmiotu (np. grosz-ek) oraz znaczenie zbiorowości przedmiotów (np. pierz-e). Podobnie w przypadku liczby zdarzeń – odpowiednie morfemy mogą eksponować pojedynczość (np. kaszl-ną-ć) albo wielość aktów zdarzenia (np. na-obierać, po-wynosić).O randze pojęcia liczby w polszczyźnie świadczy istnienie specjalnej kategorii wyrazów – liczebników. Różny stopień precyzji wskazywania liczby, który ujawniają liczebniki tzw. określone (np. trzy, piętnaście) i nieokreślone (np. kilka, dużo, tyle) odpowiada różnicom wiedzy i potrzeb komunikujących się osób. Z kolei zróżnicowanie właściwości odmiany i związanych z tym funkcji składniowych poszczególnych typów liczebników wynika z potrzeby łączenia w zdaniu nazw liczb z nazwami różnych bytów (zarówno rzeczy, jak i zdarzeń), ta zaś jest znakiem postrzegania w aspekcie liczbowym szerokiego spektrum zjawisk rzeczywistości.

Given the fact that we live in the era where the pace of life is constantly speeding up, it is no surprise that ‘the economy of language’ - meaning the efficient usage of language in order to achieve the maximum effect for the minimum effort has become so important in everyday life. Using abbreviated forms of different kinds is supposed to help us to economize continuously insufficient amount of time. Their overuse, however, can hamper effective communication and bring the adverse effect from what the speaker’s intention was – namely to communicate the message clearly and unambiguously and receive a response to it in a short time. Incomprehension or misunderstanding of the message leads, in fact, to unnecessarily prolonging the conversation since it requires asking additional questions in order to explain what is unclear to the listener. Reduced forms used mainly in spoken Korean can largely be divided into lexical and grammatical ones. Lexical shortenings of different kinds such as acronyms, blends, clippings etc. although rarely and rather briefly discussed by Korean linguists and basically excluded from the debate on word-formation issues definitely deserve much more attention taking into account their extensive usage. As for grammatical abbreviations, despite its frequent occurrence, the subject is not that often taken up and discussed either. The aim of this article is to present some characteristic properties of grammatical abbreviations used mainly in spoken Korean. The reduced forms in question will be divided into three categories namely - particles, endings and grammatical constructions and discussed separately. This article however focuses only on those abbreviated forms, which means leaving the subject of particle or word ellipsis beyond its scope.
우리는 생활의 속도가 지속적으로 가속화되어 가고 있는 시대에서 살고 있다. 이러한 사실을 감안해 볼 때 최소의 노력으로 최대의 효과를 얻을 수 있다는 목적을 달성하기 위한 ‘언어의 경제성’이 일상생활에서 그만큼 중요해졌다는 것은 놀랄 만한 일이 아니다. 다양한 종류의 ‘줄어든 말 (축약)’의 사용은 충분하지 않은 시간을 절약할 수 있도록 우리에게 도움을 준다. 그런데 ‘줄어든 말’의 남용은 원활한 의사소통을 방해할 수 있으며, 결국에는 분명하고 명확하게 정보를 전달하고 짧은 시간 안에 청자의 응답을 받으려는 화자의 의지와는 전혀 다른 반응, 즉 역효과를 가져올 수도 있다. 실제로 화자가 말한 내용을 청자가 이해하지 못하거나, 잘못 이해한 경우에는 불필요한 담화를 지속해야 할 수도 있다. 왜냐하면 명확하지 못한 부분을 설명하기 위한 추가 질문과 대답이 필요하기 때문이다. 대체로 구어체 한국어에서 사용되는 축약형은 크게 어휘 단위가 축약된 ‘준말’과 문법적인 단위의 음운 탈락이나 축약인 ‘줄어든 말’로 나눌 수 있다. 두문자어 (acronyms), 혼성어 (blends), 단축어 (clipping) 등과 같은 축소된 어휘 단위가 한국 언어학자들에 의하여 간략하게 언급되며 기본적으로 어휘형성법에 관한 논의에서 제외되어 있으나, 일상생활에서 그러한 어휘의 광범위한 사용을 고려한다면 훨씬 더 많은 연구의 대상이 되어야 한다. 그리고 문법 단위가 축약된 형태 또한 빈번하게 사용됨에도 불구하고 연구의 대상이 되는 경우는 흔하지 않다. 본 연구는 주로 구어체 한국어에서 사용되는 축약된 문법 단위를 관찰하여 그 특질을 드러내는 데에 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 조사와 어미, 문법적 구조의 세 가지 범주를 대상으로 하위 구분하여 논의할 것이다. 그러나 이 연구는 축약된 문법 단위만을 논의 주제로 삼되 조사나 어휘의 탈락은 논외로 한다.

This longitudinal study explores two specific aspects of the acquisition of grammatical gender in L2 Swedish: the use of a default gender and surface transfer. Twenty-one L1 Polish university students of L2 Swedish were tested by means of an untimed gender assignment task after two, three, and four semesters of studying. The data were analysed using a two-way ANOVA for repeated measures. Participants had more success in assigning gender to Swedish nouns that shared gender across Polish and Swedish than to Swedish nouns that differed in gender across the two languages, regardless of length of experience in learning Swedish. Contrary to previous studies that observed overgeneralisation of uter gender forms in production, this study did not identify the tendency to use uter as a default, presumably because participants had unlimited time to perform the task. This finding points to a dissociation between the knowledge of grammatical gender and the ability to use it during processing.

The subject of this research is an unknown Slavic translation of Sermon 5 John of Sinaya’s Scala Paradisi (Lestvica) in a Serbian Menaion and Triodion Panagyric, rewritten from an old Bulgarian antigraph which has preserved the archaic grammatical traits of the prototranslation. In the sermon’s text, forms of asigmatic aorist and first sigmatic aorist with a preserved “s” are being registered, as well as non-contrahered forms for imperfect, forms of past active I participle formed with suffix -ьш- from verbs with a base ending on -и-, possessive adjectives as a translation of the Greek genitive case for possession, usage of a local prepositionless, excessive prepositionless usage of ablative case, descriptive future with a preponderance of forms of хотѣти + infinitive, dual number forms, non-contrahered forms of complex (determinative) adjectives, etc. The translation of the sermon of the transcript in NHM24 includes rare lexemes that attribute it to the early translations of Cyril and Methodius. It demonstrates similarities to the Glagolitic translations of the hand-written cannon of 10th–11th century.

Today it is very important to teach pupils their native language using developmental teaching method. Proceeding from the rules of developmental teaching technology in the educational and cognitive activity of the teacher and pupil the ways of implementing search works based on the "subject-subject" relationships from the scientific point of view have been justified. At the 4th form of primary school the scientific bases of the methodology of the developmental teaching of the Kazakh language parts of speech have been identified for the first time, the ways of establishing a purposefully created methodology have been considered. Methods of developmental teaching of morphology for the 4th form students have been created. Purpose. The purpose of the article is to provide through defining methodological bases of the developmental teaching of Kazakh language parts of speech at primary school developmental teaching methodology using the results of practical implementations of developmental teaching effective methods in teaching parts of speech. Methods. During the research the methods of developmental teaching, methods of analysis, synthesis, comparison, connection, pedagogical experiment, quantitative and qualitative analysis, tests and other methods have been used. Results. The teacher's goals for theoretical teaching of morphology (parts of speech) concepts have been defined. An educational and methodological complex for teachers aimed at developing educational and cognitive activity of primary school pupils have been developed for teaching the concepts about parts of speech. During the pedagogical experiment, the effectiveness of our methodology has been proved in this research.

В статье рассматривается языковая концептуализация пространства в русском языке. Актуальность статьи обусловлена важностью сопоставительного изучения специфических черт русского языка. Цель статьи – проследить степень выраженности локальности в сравнении с болгарским языком. Привлекается материал Национального корпуса русского языка и Болгарского национального корпуса, переводных текстов и словарей. Пространственность русского языка рассматривается как семантико-грамматическая доминанта, выявляемая на разных языковых уровнях. В исследовании использованы системный, сопоставительный и функциональный методы. Эффективность и актуальность названных методов связана с возможностью предметно представить при комплексном подходе специфические черты русского языка в выражении пространственности, показать данную категорию как семантико-грамматическую доминанту русского языка, которая проявляется как в системе языка на разных уровнях, так и в речи. Более явная выраженность ее в сравнении с болгарским языком прослеживается при сопоставительном анализе на уровнях фразеологии, грамматики и текста. Показано, что русский язык в совокупности своих выразительных средств фиксирует внимание на пространственной картине мира с максимальной экспликацией и детализацией реальных предметно-пространственных отношений, содержащихся в ситуации. Выявленные на русском и болгарском материале различия в языковой интерпретации пространства обусловлены как внеязыковыми, так и собственно языковыми факторами – особенностями системных свойств языков, их лексико-грамматическими ресурсами и типологическими характеристиками. Отмечено значение проведенного исследования для теории и практики преподавания русского языка как иностранного.
The article deals with the linguistic conceptualization of space in the Russian language. The relevance of the article is due to the importance of studying the specific features of the Russian language. The aim of the article is to trace the degree of expressiveness of locality in comparison with the Bulgarian language. The material used comes from the National Corpus of the Russian language, the Bulgarian National Corpus, translated texts, and dictionaries. Spatiality in the Russian language is considered a semantic-grammatical dominant, revealed at different linguistic levels. The study uses systemic, comparative, and functional methods. The effectiveness and relevance of the named methods is connected with the possibility to present the specific features of the Russian language in the expression of spatiality in a comprehensive approach, to show this category as a semantic-grammatical dominant of the Russian language, which is manifested both in the language system at different levels, and in speech. Its more explicit manifestation in comparison with the Bulgarian language is traced in the comparative analysis at the levels of phraseology, grammar, and text. It is demonstrated that the Russian language in the totality of its expressive means draws attention to the spatial picture of the world with maximum explication and detailing of real object-spatial relations contained in the situation. The differences in the linguistic interpretation of space, revealed in the Russian and Bulgarian material, are due to both extra-linguistic and linguistic factors – the peculiarities of the system properties of the languages, their lexico-grammatical resources, and typological characteristics. The significance of the study for the theory and practice of teaching Russian as a foreign language is noted.

The reorganization of the initial system of aspect paradigms in Old Russian is investigated within the framework of the theory of natural grammar. It is claimed, in accordance with this theory, that the grammatical changes in morphological systems of natural languages are determined by a limited set of typologically relevant markedness principles (naturalness principles or preference laws). These principles explain the attested diachrony of grammatical changes in the system of aspectual paradigms of the Russian verb and predict the general direction in its development. During the historical development of the system of aspectual paradigms in Russian, optimal iconic perfectivizing paradigms are ousting non-optimal countericonic imperfectivizing paradigms as well as non-optimal non-iconic aspectual syncretic paradigms. In contemporary Russian, aspectual paradigms of perfectivization are preferable in terms of competitive aspectual paradigms of imperfectivization and syncretic aspectual paradigms. The share of optimal paradigms of perfectivization is constantly increasing in modern Russian. Consequently, there is direct evidence for the development of the system of Russian aspect paradigms towards optimal organization of aspect paradigms, i.e. towards economy.

The article presents the idiosyncrasies of the frequency of syntactic structures used by secondary school students (aged 13-15). It is drawn on the basis of research carried out in a secondary school in Kalisz. A total of 4,021 syntactic structures from 276 compositions written by students from two classes were analysed in order to present phenomena typical of the ultimate syntactic structures. The data was collected for two school years (2011/2012 and 2012/2013) and indicates the most frequently and generally used syntactic structures as well as the less popular and more specific ones. In addition, a comparison of the results and transposing them to a timeframe makes it possible to present the evolution in the syntax of compositions written by secondary school students. An analysis of the material has also led to specifying the types of syntactic errors and their frequency.

The issue of countability and uncountability of English nouns may seem simple – nouns are count when their designations can be counted, and mass when they cannot (e.g., Huddleston & Pullum, 2002, p. 334). Consequently, we might expect that lexicographic characteristics of nouns will be generally unequivocal: count or mass. However, a closer analysis of this issue reveals several fundamental problems of grammatical and lexicographic nature. The article analyses how grammatical problems with such classifications translate into lexicographic practice. The analysis focuses on five reputable dictionaries of English and their approaches to the issue of countability and uncountability of selected nouns.

Traditional dissertation has been practised by several generations of students. This exercise has also been commented on by several generations of school system experts. Between commentaries of teachers (before 1980) and those of didacticians (after 1980), some differences of perspective seem to have installed themselves in a relatively stable way. The present article can’t detail the shift between a paradigm dominated by the link between language and thought and a paradigme dominated by a communicative conception of the language. It can however choose a specific aspect of that paradigm shift: the concurrence between two definitions of rhetoric. The definition explicitly rejected but implicitly conveyed by dissertation manuals, tends to mask the situation of communication. On the contrary, the definition of rhetoric used by didacticians insists on the essential necessity of an audience. The present article proposes an analysis of the concurrence between those two definitions.

Mission statement is a genre of corporate management addressed to a large and diversified group of recipients. The aim of the investigated genre is to persuade them to accept the goals and actions of a corporation. It is the choice of relevant generic and register forms which plays a major role in the accomplishment of aims of a mission statement. Almost any contemporary handbook on management addresses the issue of the function and content of a mission statement. This contrasts with the relatively limited interest of linguists in this genre. The analysis presented below draws mainly on the research made by Priscilla Rogers and John Swales (1990), John Swales and Priscilla Rogers (1995), Piotr Mamet (2005), and Maja Wolny-Peirs (2005). The aim of the study is to investigate how certain translational shifts might alter the corporate image of the company. The analysed disourse features cover grammatical metaphor, lexical choice, omission, as well as syntactic and lexical interference.

The article aims at presenting the opinion that, in the Polish language, apart from the grammatical category of gender, there is also the grammatical category of sex. The two categories are usually related, sometimes, however, they formulate an opposition. The category of gender is a category of noun and adjective, while the category of sex refers to personal pronouns, mostly to the first person singular, less frequently to the second person singular and even less often to the third person singular. Exponents of gender are mirrored in the paradigmatic forms of nouns and adjectives, whereas the exponents of sex reveal themselves in verbs and predicates, being examples of misplaced morphemes.

The aim of the paper is to study the impact of the instruction, focused either on the grammatical component (the indirect speech) or the discursive component (the transformation of a dialogue into narration) of the communication competence on the quality of intralinguistic mediation carried out by learners at higher levels of competence (from B2). We argue by the divergence between the productions resulting from the first and the second instruction a need to ensure a didactic transition from the exercise of indirect speech (work on form) to its actual discursive use (social practice), according to the principles of the action-oriented approach.

One of the main requirements of life in present-day society is that the system of education and growing children should be focused on developing inner pupil’s abilities based on their own methods of mastering educational subjects. Introducing new educational technologies aim to provide quicker results in teaching. In this regard, the developmental teaching technology which includes teaching a student methods of learning internal structure and external system of his native language plays significant role. Purpose: By defining theoretical bases of the developmental teaching of Kazakh language parts of speech at primary school to present effective developmental teaching methodology based on the results of practical implementation of the effective developmental teaching methods for studying the parts of speech. Methods: By taking into account research methods of such scientists-methodists in Kazakhstan as S.R. Rakhmetova, F.Sh.Orazbaeva, K. Kadasheva, N.Kurmanova, Zh.Suleimenova, G.Uaisova, A.E.Zhumabayeva, who have broadly studied the methodology of Kazakh language teaching, for the reaserach reported in the article the following research methods have been used: synthesis, comparison, connection, pedagogical experiment, quantitative and qualitative analysis, test and the developmental teaching. Conclusions: During the developmental teaching of the grammatical concepts to pupils of primary school, development of the pupils’ ability to make consolidated grammatical concepts has been taken as the main goal of the developmental teaching. To achieve this goal in practical implementation of the methodology it is the necessary that the content of teaching grammar was systemized.

This article is devoted to presumably the oldest preserved grammatical terminology in the Polish language, which appears in two Latin-Polish manuscripts by Bartholomeus de Bydgostia of 1532 (S) and 1544 (R). The second dictionary (1544) is especially worth considering as it contains much larger lexical material in the field of grammar. The author made terminological notes mainly in special sections devoted to grammatical terms, which contain about 100 Latin entries with Polish renderings. We can also find such notes on the margins of Johann Reuchlin’s print (1488). On the basis of the new (Polish-Latin) edition of the dictionary by Bartholomeus de Bydgostia (1999–2019), I present the Latin names of eight parts of speech with the Polish explanations (words, phrases, sentences, etc.) and 37 Latin and Polish headwords connected with the Latin category nomen.
Artykuł nawiązuje do najstarszej – jak można sądzić – zachowanej w języku polskim terminologii gramatycznej, występującej w łacińsko-polskich rękopisach Bartłomieja z Bydgoszczy z lat 1532 (S) i 1544 (R). Zapisy z dziedziny gramatyki Bartłomiej odnotował głównie w nomenklatorach, gdzie występuje ok. 100 terminów łacińskich z polskimi objaśnieniami, a także na marginesach druku J. Reuchlina. Na podstawie obecnej edycji słownika, zawierającej materiał z S i R, pt. Słownik Bartłomieja z Bydgoszczy: Wersja polsko-łacińska (1999–2019) przedstawiłam nazwy polskie dla 8 łacińskich części mowy oraz kategorii nomen, w zakresie różnorodnego doboru słownictwa np. figura – prosty kształt, ut doctus; figura composita in grammatica nominum – złożone wyobrażenie jimion, ut indecens niesłuszny, impotens niemocny. Wyekscerpowałam dla tych pojęć 37 terminów łacińskich z polskimi odpowiednikami.

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the formation of grammar competence of future foreign language teachers. The article describes the methodical integrity of the future foreign language teacher through the prism of forming vocationally oriented grammatical skills. On the basis of the analysis of the peculiarities of vocationally oriented grammatical competence of future foreign language teachers and the goals that the teacher realizes in the process of its formation, methodical grammatical skills and competences that the future foreign language teachers must master for effective professional and methodical competence of students’ competence are determined. The authors of the article interpret grammatical skills as the ability to understand and express meaning (meaning), to generate and recognize phrases that are built on certain principles, not to memorize and reproduce them as ready-made formulas. The article also emphasized that the acquisition of grammar material by future foreign language teachers should be fully conscious, as it is a high final level of command of a foreign language. After all, the high level of formation of vocationally oriented foreign language grammatical competence in future foreign language teachers is a necessary prerequisite for the implementation of foreign language communication activities, professional and professional-methodical in particular, and scientists, in turn, substantiate and propose teaching methods. The article determines that successful grammar development is ensured by the creation of a poly sensor environment: the use of graphic, sound, verbal and non-verbal means. Learning grammar is impossible without taking into account the principle of system. Mastering grammar as a system contributes to the mental development of future educators and achieves high results in the performance of grammar tests and complex tasks. The perception of information through different channels allows you to successfully master grammatical knowledge, skills and abilities.
Стаття присвячена особливостям формування граматичної у майбутніх учителів іноземної мови. У статті охарактеризовано методичну цілісність майбутнього вчителя іноземної мови через призму формування професійно орієнтованих граматичних навичок. На основі аналізу особливостей професійно орієнтованої граматичної компетентності майбутніх учителів іноземної мови та цілей, які реалізує вчитель у процесі її формування, визначено методичні граматичні навички та вміння, якими повинні оволодіти майбутні вчителі іноземної мови для ефективної професійно методичної діяльності з формування у студентів зазначеної компетентності. Автори статті трактують граматичні навички як здатність розуміти і висловлювати смисл (значення), породжувати і розпізнавати фрази, побудовані за певними принципами, а не запам’ятовувати і відтворювати їх як готові формули. В статті також наголошено, що оволодіння граматичним матеріалом майбутніми вчителями іноземної мови повинно бути повністю свідомим, оскільки мова йде про високий кінцевий рівень володіння іноземною мовою. Адже високий рівень сформованості професійно орієнтованої іншомовної граматичної компетентності у майбутніх учителів іноземної мови є необхідною передумовою для реалізації іншомовної комунікативної діяльності, професійної та професійно-методичної зокрема, а науковці, у свою чергу, обґрунтовують і пропонують до впровадження у навчальний процес дотичні методики. У статті визначено, що успішне освоєння граматики забезпечується створенням полісенсорного середовища: використання графічних, звукових, вербальних і невербальних засобів. Навчання граматиці неможливе без урахування принципу системності. Сприйняття iнформації різними каналах дозволяє успішно оволодівати граматичними знаннями, навичками і вміннями. Освоєння граматики як системи сприяє розумовому розвитку майбутніх педагогів та досягненню високих результатів при виконанні граматичних тестів і складних завдань.

This paper stems from a broader research project entitled Analog-based Modelling of Meaning Representations in English (Skrzypczak 2006), and aims to present grammatical aspect and lexical aspect as two modes of encoding the temporal profiles within the conceptualisation of processes (terminologically, in Langackerian sense, imperfective and perfective processes, otherwise, variously labelled as stative and dynamic verbs, i. e. states vs. discrete ‘unitary’ events and non-discrete ‘unbounded’ processes).It is assumed that aspect in both cases - as a process-profiling category - is analogous to the profiling of things and atemporal relations (in the sense of Langacker 1987, 1990, 2000), given the maximisation of the temporal domain in the characterisation of processes (perfective and imperfective, hence: dynamic and stative), and minimalisation of the temporal domain during the conceptualisation of things (conceptually independent entities) and atemporal relations (conceptually dependent atemporal configurations). The analogy between nouns and verbs in terms of ‘granularity’ has been so far variously addressed by Langacker (1990), Jackendoff (1991) and Talmy (2001), and also constitutes the core assumption in my research on topological modelling.

It is well known that languages encode their basic categorial functions in a different way. Nevertheless, there are numerous semi-grammatical and lexical items that provide specific categorial signals which can be referred to as limit values between lexicon and grammar. These covered signals allow to compare categorial functions of different languages encoded by items of a different status in the particular language systems occurring as secunda comparationis by language comparison. In the presented paper modality and aspect resp. aspectuality are compared with regard to Slavonic aspect languages vs. Germanic aspectless systems. It is shown that in the field of deontic (root) and epistemic (deictic) modality there are verifiable cross-categorial connections, so that e. g. modal verbs can, under certain circumstances “replace” the lack of the aspect category encoding aspect-like functions. This claim goes back to Werner Abraham’s aspectual-modal link hypothesis proven also in diachronically oriented investigations by Elisabeth Leiss. The analyses includes both the synchronic and the diachronic dimension of the problem by involving corresponding examples from the corpora in question.

The article discusses an information technology for Ukrainian Sign Language translation based on ontologies. The components of the technology that are based on grammatically augmented ontology are described. New methods and tools for Ukrainian Sign Language translation were developed. These tools can be used for the development of a machine translation system from spoken to sign language and vice versa to facilitate communication between deaf people and those who do not speak sign language. The experiments for Ukrainian Sign Language translation were conducted. The increase of the percentage of correctly parsed sentences shows the feasibility of using the information technology for Ukrainian Sign Language translation.

El género, se tome este en la acepción tercera o en la octava del Diccionario de la Lengua Española (DLE), constituye probablemente la cuestión más candente de la sociolingüística y gramática normativa del español actual. Hoy por hoy, planteos tradicionales y propuestas en tentativa sobre su concepción y tratamiento parecen ofrecer perspectivas incompatibles. El tema revela en su vertiente gramatical (enredada con diversas facetas psicológicas, sociológicas, ideológicas y políticas de las relaciones entre mujeres y hombres) un interés social y un grado de controversia especialmente alto para tratarse de un tema lingüístico, tanto entre autoridades de la disciplina como en medios populares. Dentro de este marco, el presente trabajo presenta una serie de reflexiones, pautas y ejemplos que, además de centrar el tema, puedan servir de orientación para evitar un tratamiento, no solo sexista, sino también androcéntrico del español.
Whether understood in its third or in its eighth entry in the Diccionario de la Lengua Española (DLE), gender has probably become the hottest issue of sociolinguistics and normative grammar in contemporary Spanish. Nowadays, traditional approaches and attempted propositions about its conception and treatment seem to offer incompatible points of view. From a grammar perspective (mixed up with different psychological, sociological, ideological and politic topics about the relations between men and women), this subject reveals a social interest and a degree of controversy particularly high for a linguistic issue, not only amongst authorities in the matter but also in popular media. Within this framework, the present work offers a series of considerations, guidelines and examples that, as well as situating the subject, could be used as a guidance in order to avoid not only a sexist but also an androcentric use of Spanish.
Niezależnie od tego, czy rozumiany według trzeciego czy ósmego znaczenia w Diccionario de la Lengua Española (DLE), rodzaj stał się prawdopodobnie najgorętszym zagadnieniem socjolingwistyki i gramatyki normatywnej we współczesnym języku hiszpańskim. W dzisiejszych czasach tradycyjne podejścia i propozycje dotyczące jego koncepcji i traktowania wydają się oferować rozbieżne punkty widzenia. Z perspektywy gramatycznej (pomieszanej z różnymi zagadnieniami psychologicznymi, socjologicznymi, ideologicznymi i politycznymi dotyczącymi relacji między mężczyzną i kobietą) temat ten ujawnia interes społeczny i pewien stopień kontrowersji zwłaszcza w kwestiach językowych, nie tylko w środowisku autorytetów w tej dziedzinie, ale także w popularnych mediach. W tym kontekście niniejszy artykuł oferuje szereg rozważań, wytycznych i przykładów, które oprócz propozycji umiejscowienia tematu mogą być wykorzystane jako wskazówki, jak uniknąć nie tylko seksistowskiego, ale i androcentrycznego użycia języka hiszpańskiego.

In recent years, the English-speaking world observed growing awareness of the gender non-binary/genderqueer community. Among other things, this involved the issue of in- clusive language, e.g. the singular they pronoun has been declared the word of the year by the American Dialect Society in 2015, and by Merriam-Webster in 2019. There is also growing media representation of characters using singular they in popular culture. This, however, poses a challenge to translators, as some languages – like Polish – are much more heavily gendered and lack an obvious equivalent of singular they. This article analy- ses Polish translations of three English-language television series featuring non-binary characters and discusses good practices one can employ when dealing with similar trans- lation challenges.

The paper proposes some formal and functional criteria for distinguishing between two different syntactic positions of grammatical gender: determiner gender (D-gender) and nominal gender (n-gender). Focusing on D-gender and how it differs from n-gender, this work supports previous analyses of gender as a heterogeneous category that occupies different positions in the syntactic tree. Data are presented from 27 languages, many of which are either critically endangered or already extinct.1

The main aim of this text is to explicate what paragraphs 134-137 of Philosophical Investigations say about truth. Nevertheless, I start with a discussion of the remarks on truth contained in the Tractatus because the thoughts expressed in the latter should be read in the context of the thoughts expressed in the former. According to my interpretation of paragraphs 134-137 of the Investigations, Wittgenstein aims to show that the relationship between the concept of truth and the concept of a proposition may consist in the fact that truth and falsity, in certain language games, are constitutive elements of what a proposition is, but it must be added that these concepts cannot be comprehended independently from each other. I also come to the conclusion that in his opinion the concept of truth is expressed in various ways in our language, it being conveyed by such expressions as “… is true” and “this is how things are: …”, and that this shows that while asserting that something is true one can emphasize, on the one hand, that it is a proposition that says that things are a certain way, and on the other, just the fact that things are thus and so.

This paper aims at exploring the role of cohesion in persuading listeners through answering the following questions; what types of grammatical cohesive relations are displayed and what is their frequency of occurrence in the sampled text? and how does cohesion contribute to the creation and understanding of a text? A program for corpus analysis called (AntConc Tutorial (Ver. 3.2.4) developed by Laurence Anthony (Anthony, L., 2004) is used for analyzing the sample of this study which will be the speech of the Singaporean prime minister, Lee Hsien Loong, on the COVID-19 ‘New Normal’, on 31 May 2021 (Appendix A). The study devotes attention to the speech of the Singaporean prime minister on this occasion due to the importance of this event which occupied the world. This paper depends on Halliday and Hasan’s (1976) taxonomy of cohesive devices to analyze data.

The aim of the article is to analyse the grammatical rules for the use of English articles which are offered to students of English as a foreign language and evaluate them from the perspective of their pedagogical effectiveness. The article highlights the most problematic issues and the potential weaknesses of the rules most commonly used in contemporary pedagogical/reference grammars. It is argued that some of the problems identified could be at least partially solved or avoided by the introduction of rules based on Cognitive Grammar. A brief outline of the Cognitive Grammar conception of articles is presented to show how the specific “uses” of articles can be subsumed under more general, broader, conceptually-based rules.

The mathematical model of grammatically augmented ontology was introduced to address this issue. This model was used for grammatical analysis of Ukrainian sentences. Domain specific language named GAODL for description of grammatically augmented ontology was developed. The grammar of the language was defined by means of Xtext extension for Eclipse. The developed language was used as an auxiliary part of the information technology for bidirectional Ukrainian sign language translation.

This article focuses on the issue of drug nominations above the word level. It assumed that every jargon expression composed of two or more elements is a phraseologism. The analysis encompasses 274 phraseological expressions excerpted from the most recent lexicogra- phic sources. Among the analyzed drug nominations there were observed all kinds of expressions divided according to semantic as well as formal criteria. Moreover, phraseological phonetic, mor- phological-grammatical, word-formation and lexical variants were distinguished.

Opis:
This paper presents an analysis of semantic and lexical connectivity of lexical units assuming the form maksymalnie (maximally), minimalnie (minimally). They are treated as metapredicative operators, or – to be more precise – as operators of gradation, while in fact they are representatives of metalevels. The paper focuses in particular on presenting limitations to the connectivity between the examined operators and the adjectives and adverbs that are called parametric and evaluative in the relevant literature. The analysed lexemes collocate with adjectives and adverbs that are relative in nature. The analyses were conducted based on the dictionary descriptions and examples of usage of the units derived from the National Corpus of Polish (NKJP). The paper uses methods applied in structural grammar and semantics.

The bilingual Latin–Polish editions of the grammar book by Aelius Donatus, published in the 16th–18th c., are among the earliest studies comprising Polish grammatical terms. The terminology found in these editions forms an organised, hierarchical structure, which was transferred from the Latin original to the Polish translation. There are particular coincidences between Latin–Polish editions of Donatus and the dictionary of 1542 by Bartholomew of Bydgoszcz, which ascertains the thesis on a major infl uence of these editions on the dictionary and might serve as an argument for the existence of an earlier version of Donatus, one dating back to ca. 1530.

Opis:
Teaching elementary Czech to university students is a challenging task. Given the profound complexity and numerous exceptions found in the Czech language system, a balance between oversimplification on the one hand and overwhelming students on the other hand needs to be sought. The objective of this study is to find out whether and to what extent do beginner Czech learners understand how selected grammatical categories work in Czech. The results imply that more attention should be paid to word formation processes as insufficient understanding of them was identified not only in students who were new to Czech but also in the control group.

Jeep cut in “ford”, or Does the grammatical category of animateness / inanimateness exist in Russian?The purpose of the article is to clarify the concept of grammatical category of animateness / inanimateness in Russian. After analyzing the history of the study of this category and the history of its development, the author concludes that the grammatical category of animateness, despite its name, is intended to mark not living objects, but objects with a potential of activity. The main function of this category is to distinguish nominative and accusative cases in such sentences as modern informal Russian Dzhip podrezal “ forda” (Jeep cut in “Ford”), where without such а distinguishing feature it could be unclear which of these two nouns is the subject and which is the object. Jeep zajechał drogę „fordowi”, albo Czy w języku rosyjskim istnieje gramatyczna kategoria żywotności / nieżywotności?Celem artykułu jest rozjaśnienie natury gramatycznej kategorii żywotności /nieżywotności w języku rosyjskim. Po przeanalizowaniu historii badań nad tą kategorią oraz historii jej rozwoju autor dochodzi do wniosku, że wbrew swojej nazwie gramatyczna kategoria żywotności charakteryzuje określenia nie żywych istot, a obiektów potencjalnie aktywnych. Podstawową funkcją tej kategorii jest odróżnienie form mianownika i biernika w takich zdaniach, jak Dżip podriezał „forda” (Jeep zajechał drogę „fordowi”) we współczesnym potocznym języku rosyjskim, gdzie w przeciwnym wypadku nie byłoby jasne, który z tych dwóch rzeczowników jest podmiotem, a który orzeczeniem.

The first Polish grammatical terms came into existence as early as in the Middle Ages. Due to the role played by Latin in the Polish culture and science, the relations between the Polish terminology under forma tion and the already formed Latin terminology are signifi cant. This is noticeable not only in bilingual (Latin–Polish) grammar book by E. Donat but also in the first Polish-language grammar books by W. Szylarski and O. Kopczyński. The latter rendered considerable services to the codifi cation of grammatical terminology. In the 19th century, it was impossible to popularise J. Przybylski’s and A. Morzycki’s innovative terminological propositions. The development of the Polish scientific linguistics gives rise to a revision of the earlier grammatical systematics, which results also in a change in the nomenclature. The distinctness of grammatical lexis is evidenced by the glossaries attached to the grammar books. Some of the terms have entered the vocabulary common to various varieties of Polish over time.

The aim of the article is to describe the category of gender in Polish from three perspectives: the perspective of the grammatical system, of discourse and of glottodidactics. In the grammatical description, the author emphasizes the syntactic function and the rules for dividing Polish nouns into genders. She draws attention to different ways of linguistic symbolization of gender in a discourse, which may be divergent from the grammatical gender. She notices differences between the acquisition of the category in question by native and non-native users. From the perspective of pedagogical grammar, she analyzes the mistakes of foreigners in terms of gender and proposes general principles of teaching this category.
Celem artykułu jest opis kategorii rodzaju w języku polskim z trzech perspektyw: systemu gramatycznego, dyskursu oraz glottodydaktyki. W opisie gramatycznym autorka kładzie nacisk na funkcję składniową oraz zasady podziału rzeczowników na rodzaje. Zwraca uwagę na różny sposób językowego symbolizowania płci w dyskursie, który może być rozbieżny z rodzajem gramatycznym. Zauważa różnice między przyswajaniem omawianej kategorii przez rodzimych i nierodzimych użytkowników. Z perspektywy gramatyki pedagogicznej analizuje błędy cudzoziemców w zakresie rodzaju i proponuje ogólne zasady nauczania tej kategorii.
