Opis:
The paper attempts to systematise the diverse views on globalisation by introducing several classificatory criteria. The author discusses the levels of globalisation, e.g., macroeconomic, sectoral, microeconomic, and household levels. Presented are views expressed by macroeconomists, finance specialists, and management theorists. They represent different, sometimes contradictory, attitudes to globalisation and its effects: positive, negative or neutral. One of the chapters provides an analysis of the impact of globalisation on strategy theories.

Opis:
Young Muslim women are coming under an increasing influence of globalisation processes and follow global trends, which also includes fashion. This entails a certain balancing act between being modern and being religious. The author of the present paper attempts to address the question whether the hijab may be considered a Muslim answer to globalisation through its presence within the so-called “hijab fashion,” or that perhaps, to the contrary, it constitutes a symbol of a growing isolation and separation of Muslim minorities inhabiting the countries of western Europe.

Opis:
Transportation is essential for the functioning of the economy since mobility greatly supports growth and job creation. The transport sector in the EU employs about 10 million people and provides approximately 5% of the GDP. The efficiency of the transport systems is a prerequisite for competitiveness and significantly affects the quality of life of people. Logistics plays a key role in terms of sustainable and competitive mobility in Europe and other objectives, such as a cleaner environment, security of energy supply, and widely available transport facilities. The use of safe and environmentally friendly vehicles is the main priority of all modes of transportation. The key changes include alternative fuels, new materials, new propulsion systems as well as information technology and traffic management techniques. The organization of the transportation of raw materials and finished products within and outside the EU depends on the efficient operation of logistic networks. This is primarily an industrial activity and creating the right framework conditions is the responsibility of the relevant authorities. In my study I analysed the situation of logistics in Europe and in Hungary. In order to exploit the benefits and to avoid the disadvantages of globalization the European Union implements structural changes which I describe and analyse. Considering the EU and Hungary this paper covers the following areas: − The effects of globalisation, − The climate-, energy-, and environment protection policy of the EU and their connection to logistics, − Tendencies in the changes of the transport sector, − The possible changes in passenger and freight transport, − The characteristics of the infrastructure and the requirements for its development, − Future prospects of logistics. On the basis of my examinations I will draw conclusions and offer suggestions regarding modifications in areas I consider most problematic.

This article investigates the rise of populism in Poland, applying an interdisciplinary method, with political, social, and economic factors as the compound reason for the turn from liberalism towards populism. The methodology of the study is the exploratory analysis of research, historical materials on Poland`s transition to capitalism, and calculation of the selected empirical data of household incomes, linked to election results, in the regional cross-section. The household economic condition was validated by a report on deprivation and the presented growth of households’disposable income, exposing regional differences between the selected voivodeships. The populist party Law and Justice (PiS) won the two last elections, with the majority of votes in low-income regions, which proved the hypothesis that economic inequality, amplified by globalisation and transition disparities were the main reasons for populism’s prevalence. The democratic backsliding has not changed party-political scenery for very long, which revealed that for the majority of Polish voters, economic upgrading counted more, despite the violation of democracy. Therefore, the advance of knowledge about measures to reduce the in-country socioeconomic disparities between regions has become more important.

Opis:
International economic integration, or globalisation, has a long history, dating from the Medieval period; the establishment and later extension of the European Union is part of this process. It is argued that EU membership has brought undoubted advantages, such as support for agriculture and for regions of high unemployment, and the removal of tariffs against Polish goods, but the huge changes experienced by Poland date from the introduction of the market economy in 1989, not from EU membership. The market economy is synonymous with globalisation, which is so powerful that countries are forced to adapt to it, and make changes within this framework. There have been changes since 2004, the most important of which is mass emigration to the UK, Ireland, Germany and Spain, but it is thought that this movement is only short-term, since most Poles intend to return to Poland, having accumulated capital. It is too soon to be able to establish the full impact of EU membership. It seems that a much longer period must be allowed to elapse before it is possible to assess the value of EU membership to Poland. But in any case, it is clear that Poland has become part of the globalisation and economic integration process – something that will be emphasised owing to membership of the EU.

Opis:
In India, the phenomenon of Hinglish has rapidly emerged from being a fashionable style of speech to a significant force instrumental in bringing about a major paradigm shift in social demography. Globalization and economic liberalization has served as catalysts to amplify this uniform communication code, which is currently blurring the linguistic barriers in a country speaking 780 dialects. Hinglish is redefining the cultural conventions in marketing/advertisement, Bollywood, and communication styles present in social media and the Internet. Its claim to be a proper language is substantiated by its acknowledgement on prestigious literary forums. While the concept is welcomed by both the marketplace and the masses as a beneficial symbiotic experience, it has also left the stakeholders of standard language, both Hindi and English, fretting and fuming. Amidst all the celebrations and concerns, the corpus of Hinglish is constantly widening and evolving because it is has been internalized, and not imposed, by the society as its own creation. The language accommodates diversity, lends flexibility, and suits the temperament of modern India. This paper studies how Hinglish has managed to seep into the very fabric of Indian society, restructuring the governing norms and practices. The paper also attempts to reflect how Hinglish is much more than just a language hybrid.

Globalisation is a ubiquitous influence in rural Europe, offering both opportunities and challenges. The liberalisation of travel restrictions, in addition to the growth and development of transport and global communication networks, have contributed to an international mobility that promotes patterns of migration, return migration and repeat emigration from and to rural regions. Return migration in particular represents a stimulating field of research, as thought-provoking as it is diverse. In some regions, migrants return to their native country to play a pivotal role in the economic, social, and cultural vibrancy of a local rural community, while in others, migrants find themselves excluded and isolated. Investigating this diversity of experience, this paper presents analysis of findings from research carried out as part of the FP7 DERREG1 project. Thirty-six biographies of return migrants (from the west of Ireland and Alytus County, Lithuania) were generated, allowing an understanding of how various life trajectories develop, reasons behind decisions, feelings regarding relocation and reintegration, and the experience of returning to a rural location. Drawing on transnationalism and social network theory, this paper reveals the complexity of contemporary return migration experiences and the similarities and diversities that exist between Western and Eastern Europe. Key issues to emerge include the context dependency of return migrant behaviour and their further life choices, integration, and the shift in migrants’ value priority scale from economic to social values.

In the globalized world, international communication seems particularly important in the context of the planning and conduct of foreign policy. Apart from traditional forms of interaction such as diplomacy, economy or military means, it is also important to have an impact on the culture and values of other societies. One of the tools for this service is the media and institutions involved in building social bonds, disseminating knowledge about a given country or its language. Depending on the state, these elements may be more or less effectively used in foreign policy. The case of the People’s Republic of China, with its aspirations to the global power, and the current system of power, seems to be a particularly interesting and therefore is the purpose of this study.

Opis:
In the teaching of John Paul II’s the need of solidarity globalization is particularly stressed out as well as that of humanization of globalization processes. With the aim of doing it, one should be guided by unchanging social values: the truth, freedom, justice, solidarity, subsidiarity, love. The globalization has two faces: ▪ the benefits which it brings to the world, individual countries and its main beneficiaries, that is international corporations. ▪ negative effects which the developing countries and all people of the world experience (climatic changes, emission of harmful substances, drug addiction, moral nihilism, gradual decrease of human importance). It happens that complex processes caused by economical globalization make their way towards changing a human being into an element of a market, a bartered good or a factor devoid of meaning for decisive choices. As a consequence, a person may feel annihilated by impersonal mechanisms on a world’s scale and may gradually lose his own identity and personal dignity.

Opis:
This article examines the processes of transformation of European societies in XXI century, taking into consideration especially factors of post-modernity, globalisation and strong social changes. Post-modernity affects all societies, but particularly those new societies in transition. Authors take the broad concept of ‘post-modernity’ as being important for all societies that have experienced transformation in their political, social, cultural, economic, educational and religious spheres following a political shift from socialist to democratic government. The processes of social transformation affect people living in them strongly, in particular in their identity and relationships.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The goal of the paper is to explain the essence of megatrends, to show global trends most often perceived as megatrends, and also to present some implications of these phenomena. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The research problem can be expressed in the form of questions: Are megatrends as phenomena important? Can the method which is appropriate for conducting global trends be determined? The paper has a conceptual character; the main research methods that are applied include literature studies, the method of analysis, the method of comparative analysis and the descriptive method. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The disquisition is composed of three major parts. The first concerns conceptualisation of megatrends: definitions, the nature of the phenomenon and also identification of phenomena approached as megatrends. The second part provides explanation why research of megatrends is important. The third part presents foresight as the most often applied research method of the discussed phenomenon. RESEARCH RESULTS: With respect to definitions concerning megatrends there are no significant divergences. However, they occur at the attempt of classification of a particular phenomenon as a megatrend. Megatrends have the nature of permanent trends that in a growing degree permeate all areas of human life. Megatrends increase complexity, uncertainty and risk and accelerate feedback within and between economic, social, political, technological and environmental systems. Therefore it is necessary to monitor and assess these phenomena. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Prediction of megatrends can be an important element of the potential of an organisation, the key to economic decision-making, as well as for planning and building the strategy on different levels of economic and social area, from micro to global level. However research of megatrends is associated, among others, with the problems resulting from ambiguous classification, dynamic character of these phenomena, uncertainty they are accompanied by, and also application of an adequate research method. It is important to contribute to the development of a more innovative research agenda for effective projection of megatrends. Keywords: megatrends, global economy, globalisation, foresight.

Aim. The aim of the research is to explore the characteristics of globalisation and highlight challenges resulting from the globalisation process in the teaching profession. Teachers are to be prepared to face any influence the globalisation brings in education: heterogeneous, diverse and multicultural classrooms due to the rise of migration, immigration and remigration; society’s expectations of and demands on the teacher regarding the learning process, its content and competences that students should develop to be prepared for their future. Methods. The author carried out surveys among 205 pre-service and 110 in-service teachers; the paper focuses on the presentation of respondents’ opinions regarding competences teachers need to be able to face the challenges of globalisation entering the sphere of education in general and their own classrooms. Results. The analysis showed competences that today’s teachers should have and demonstrate to be competent professionals and also role models for their students in the context of contemporary globalisation. Conclusion. The study showed the characteristics of globalisation that have an impact on education. The emphasis was given to the existing society’s expectations of and demands on the teachers, highlighted in the literature and the surveyed respondents’ answers. As a result of the study, the following relation was found: to be able to identify the knowledge and skills teachers need to handle complexity and face the challenges of globalisation entering the sphere of education, one has to understand the nature and characteristics of globalisation.

Opis:
In the context of globalisation processes, the social market economy (SME) is in crisis. A reflection on the features of this model is closely related to the scientific dispute over its designation. It could be perceived as a theory, a political programme, a sort of economic order, a structure, a model or a system of economic and social development. Sometimes it is perceived as an idealistic vision or even a political utopia (Niklas Luhmann). Others (e.g.: Peter Koslowski) argue that this system has come to an end. To support this thesis, they refer to various arguments: a lack of consensus on redistribution, a demographic crisis, the depletion of solidarity resources, an intergenerational imbalance that threatens retirement systems and many others. Despite the range of these arguments, it appears that the SME still has a certain potential that could be freed. Combating difficulties associated with globalisation processes, such as the dominance of the economy over politics, ‘tax starvation’ of the welfare state, marginalisation of trade unions, dispersion of ownership and its detachment from responsibility, “financialisation” of economy, or dominance of ‘casino capitalism’, could help to heal the SME. The crisis in financial markets might be paradoxically an opportunity to return to the ethical foundations of the SME.

Opis:
The paper discusses the place of Africa in the context of North-South. It shows new criteria of North-South regionalization (quality of life understood both in socio-economic and political sense) and argues that Mauritius is the only African state belonging to the global North. Nevertheless the paper shows also differences and contrasts in level of economic and socio-economic development in African as part of the global South, arguing that some of them are very visible, even more than Brandt line.

The aim of the paper is to identify and assess the role of economic sciences in relation to competitiveness and globalisation, two basic concepts of the market economy. This role is to explain and interpret their essence but also to determine their potential practical usefulness, primarily in the context of economic policy development. The considerations mentioned in the article are, as a rule, of a general and universal nature and do not relate especially to any particular countries or groups of countries. The basic method employed in the study is a critical analysis of the subject literature. The paper consists of an introduction, three sections, and conclusions. Section 1 contains a basic discussion of the subject of economic sciences and describes their four features: cognitive productivity, practical usefulness, dismal nature and beauty. Section 2 presents the contribution of economic sciences to understanding and interpreting the phenomenon of competitiveness. Section 3 focuses on defining and elucidating the idea of globalisation and an examination of its most important aspects. The paper ends with eight conclusions formulated on the basis of this discussion.

The author engages in a polemic with a structuralist perspective on globalisation. Whereas acknowledging the fact that the particular perspective has dominated the globalisation debate in recent years, he assumes a highly critical stand towards that view. In the authors' eyes, there is no evidence sufficient to support not only the structuralis thesis itself but also any deterministic approach towards globalisation. However, determinism - albeit of its multiple faces - still enjoys enormous popularity within the academic milieu, and even seems to be shared by the circles that consistently disagree on any other subject. In the end, it is argued the third wave of globalization requires a great deal of reflection at the level of ontology, epistemology and methodology.

Opis:
Most theories of nationalism labelled as ‘modernist’ tend to overlook the fact that the phenomenon to which they vaguely refer as ‘Modernity’ is defined by a single, very precise and consistent socio-economic system, that of capitalism. However, this fact makes nationalism and capitalism, rather than nationalism and ‘Modernity’, practically congruent. From this perspective, the essential question that arises is whether the emergence of these two was a spontaneous but compatible and useful coincidence, or nationalism was capitalism’s deliberate invention? In the capitalist era, society has become merely a resource whose existence enables functioning of the market. Such a society must destroy all traditional communal ties on which the maintenance of traditional society was based, so that the principles of reciprocity and solidarity be replaced by the procedures of asymmetric economic exchange. Once the procedures of asymmetric economic exchange become the central principle of human relations, society stops functioning as a whole and becomes sharply divided into two parts – a well-organised and tightly-structured network of self-interested individuals permanently striving for perpetual economic gain and a shapeless mob of socially dislodged labour permanently striving for mere survival. The incessant widening of the gap between the two strata makes capitalism’s essential principle of endless accumulation of capital socially unsustainable. For, rapidly urbanised masses, forced into selling their labour below the minimal price, contain a permanently present insurrectionary potential that might threaten stability of the entire system. So, bridging that gap without actually changing the structure of society becomes the paramount task for the system trying to preserve its mechanism of incessant exploitation of labour and limitless accumulation of capital. Therefore, the system has to introduce a social glue that is tailored to conceal, but also to cement, the actual polarisation of society. At the same time, this glue is designed to compensate the uprooted masses for the loss of their authentic identities by replacing these with a single artificial one. This multi-purpose invention is an abstract concept of absolute social unity, named “the nation”, based on the assumption that those who are located on both sides of the gap, no matter whether they are on the exploiting or exploited side, automatically share the same equal rights, same common interests, and same identity.

The paper sets out to deconstruct two concepts featuring in the title. Firstly, a novel definition of the welfare state based on economic ownership is presented, used then throughout the paper to examine the facts behind the widespread view of the welfare state finding itself in a crisis. Upon scrutiny, it turns out that empirical evidence to support the thesis under investigation is weak at best; neither globalisation nor Europeanization bring about any significant quantitative or qualitative worsening of welfare parameters. In addition, it is imperative not to put all the welfare states into one bag, as they in fact represent a plethora of diverse social-protection regimes.

The premise of this text is to analyze by means of selected examples the issues related to the broad definition of security, and modern and developing terrorist migration. Moreover, the aim of this paper is to approach the subject in question from the perspective of the current legal state by means of the formal and dogmatic method, but also by means of the method of criticism and analysis of the literature, which will allow a full understanding of the shape, functioning and causes of errors of modern security bodies. The above will influence the formulation of de lege ferenda postulates in the conclusion. The European Union is based on solid foundations. So how does globalisation, in its broadest sense, affect the world around us and the elementary values of the modern world? Modern terrorism, which strikes at the security of developed countries, is undoubtedly a global phenomenon that also sows fear for normal existence in one’s own country. Unrestricted, cross-border terrorist activity is leading to intra-community division. This is the result of internal conflicts over common values. The surveillance and detection of migrants from outside the European community who are criminals is becoming a more difficult task with time. This is due to the fact that terrorist organisations operate according to a well-defined plan, creating extensive networks and recruiting new members for their groups in many countries simultaneously. The fight against terrorism is being waged on Europe’s streets and in the homes and schools of its citizens. The struggle for security begins at the borders of European countries. What is crucial in this fight is the latest equipment and cooperation between security bodies, including the special services of all the countries of the European Union and NATO. It is essential to introduce appropriate legislation to limit the free movement of people who commit crimes and to develop methods to distinguish terrorists from economic migrants or refugees. The state must guarantee the security of its citizens and combat terrorism effectively.

Słowa kluczowe: globalizacja, pomiar globalizacji, globalizacja de facto i de iure, zmiany w poziomie globalizacji.
The goal of this paper is to show the changes that have taken place in the level of de facto and de jure globalization in the world. The KOF index of globalization, in general and economic dimension, is in fact the basis for describing these changes during the years 1990-2019 in high, upper middle, lower middle and low income economies (according to the World Bank). The main conclusions of the study are as follows: Globalization has covered all countries, although the level is varied. The level of globalization depends on the level of wealth. The higher income, the higher the degree of globalization. De facto overall globalization is lower than de jure globalization. In the case of economic globalization it is the opposite. The exceptions to this are high-income countries. Middle and low income countries have globalized more in the regulatory (de jure) than the real (de facto) sphere. The increase in the level of globalization has been recorded amongst all groups in the last three decades, but in recent years it has already been minimised. So a slowbalization has become a fact.

Kontynuacja takiego procesu będzie prowadzić do osłabienia globalizacji, dlatego potrzebna jest transformacja globalizacji. Zdaniem autora, inicjatywa Chin pn. Globalisation contributed to the economic, social, political and cultural development of the deve- loped and developing countries. At the same time, it had an adverse effect, which is in-creasing disparity of income between various social groups and countries. The continuation of such process will lead to the weakening of globalisation, so there is a need to transform globalisation. According to the Author, the initiative of China, entitled: New Belt and New Road is an example of such actions and will contribute to giving new impetus to the process of globalisation in the future.

The paper deals with the globalisation and internationalisation effect on international standardisation. The findings based on an analysis of academic literature and available government and standard-setters’ documents prove firstly the growing importance of standardisation for international stability, and secondly the growing international standard-setters’ co-operation on the field of standardisation. Due to their mutual trust, the standards’ quality has been significantly upgraded. As a result of research, a preliminary long-term outlook of standardisation was elaborated.

Opis:
The problem of politics is that nobody controls it anymore, because the social formula of its acceptance is expiring, or has already expired. There is anarchy. There exist monopolies of international corporations, which try to govern globally but do not have sufficient social legitimation to do it. The notion of economic globalisation that refers to this has been developed, but in reality there is a vacuum of global management and participation (the growth of emotions over reasons, a tribal approach, and territorialism) in the prospect of growing threats (e.g. climate change, terrorism, migrations, pandemics). An average human, full of natural envy, desires that everybody can fulfil themselves in the material world the same as them, and such equality would be satisfying for them as we know that the argument about similar stomachs is universal. He or she does not want equality in spiritual realisation; here, with ease, he or she accepts that there are smarter and more talented people than them, but they will defend fiercely their equality, treating their right to it extremely seriously. Equality is a part of human faith, and practice confirms the suggestions that traditional mythical patterns cannot be eliminated without toil. Certainly, there is no threat of the end of politics. So far, all living organisms of the human kind organise themselves. The specifics of this self-organisation depend on self-determination. People will have an interest in politics as long as politics determines their security. Nowadays, we are again witnesses to disorder, revolution, desperation, and terror, so the factors that cause fear start to dominate in the moral narrative. Finally, security and directing improvement of life chances are tasks of politics and the political character. It would be a catastrophe if a problem of security returned to its pre-political state. The basic aspect of human self-determination is the organisation of every personal life according to the norms and activities allowed by the group. Theories referring to the crisis of democracy (through e.g. the dictates of fear of nuclear war, terrorism, ecologic catastrophe, a technocratic state with an expert-driven system, entertainment justified by economic-political interest groups, and losing sovereignty through complicated institutions, external networks, and sub-political social subgroups) could become true, or have already become true. The loss of reputation, credibility, and attractiveness can happen at the same time as the decline of the meaning of internalisation in social communication, which appears in the growing discouragement towards politics and the creation of subsystems that are not predictable and steerable in a democratic way because of their complexity.

This article also aims at presenting this problem in a very concise way, both substantially and quantitatively. The Europe of the XXI century is an integrating Europe, and by means of regional integration it moves towards a higher range of integration – globalisation. Thus, each European country, including post-communist Baltic States (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia) while adapting to quality changes of contemporariness, realizes both the regionalization or integration processes, as well as globalisation one.

Autor analizuje niektóre nowe wyzwania i trendy, prezentując je z perspektywy wybranych teorii.
The article presents the influence of globalisation on identity and the question of individualisation. Globalisation implies multiple processes that are not uniform, as they occur at different times and in different places. Globalisation impacts the youth, families and cultural systems. The processes of globalisation may contribute to the loss of cultural identity. The diverse nature of globalisation has given rise to new identities. Identity is defined as a process of internal and external adjustment. Concurrently, the challenges posed by globalisation are presented, for instance: identity and freedom of individualisation versus community and belonging. The author explores some of the new challenges and trends, presenting them from selected theoretical perspectives[1].[1] All quotations have been translated by the author.

The concept of precariat goes beyond the form of employment and encapsulates several factors that determine whether a particular job/form of employment exposes an employee to instability of employment, lack of union protection (protection of interests), or social and economic insensitivity. The article aims, in the first place, to answer the question of whether precariat is a global phenomenon. Does it look the same in the rich North and poor South? Is it justified to view it as a structural characteristic of contemporary labour? To address the problem, the classification proposed by Rodgers and Rodgers (1989) and revised by Duell (2004) is employed.

Opis:
Globalisation is a multidimensional phenomenon, which applies to all aspects of social life, especially economy, politics, demographics, technology, and culture in the broad sense, including language as its constitutive component. According to experts on the topic, globalisation in the socio-cultural dimension results from the spread of mass tourism, increased migration, commercialisation of cultural products, and the spread of consumerism. The borrowing of words and meanings which could be observed at the turn of the 20th and 21st century are testament to the susceptibility of Polish to Anglo-American influence, especially with regard to international vocabulary. Borrowings from English are now commonplace. They can be found in all areas of life, from the everyday and mundane to highly specialised. Opponents of globalisation see the ubiquity of English as the main threat to modern Polish. However, we have seen periods of heavy borrowing from Latin, German, or French. These borrowings did not disturb the structure of Polish. In the 21st century borrowings from English are quickly absorbed into Polish and adapted to Polish inflexion. They become part of the language without disturbing its structure [J. Miodek].

The paper presents three possible 'futures' and 6 scenarios for schools that are elaborated in the OECD report published as a book entitled What Schools for the Future? in 2001 and its sequel in 2003 Networks of Innovation. Towards New Models for Managing Schools and Systems. These different visions are compared and archetypes of the types of leaders that each of them might require are proposed. The implications for developing such managers to meet the demands of varying future scenarios are then considered. Finally, the question to what extent these visions are globally relevant is explored and whether globalisation of educational policy and practice itself is a desirable future.

Changes of an economic, social and even political character are consequences of the process of globalisation that has been expanding for several recent decades. Changes in employment structure and thereby in the vision of the labour market are one of the results of this process. Changes of this type have their origins in modern technologies because they transform industrial civilisation into service civilisation. The scale of these changes indirectly depends on the potential of the labour resources occurring in local labour markets (they represent the whole countries). The paper focusses on analyses of the dynamics of changes in employment structures in major economy sectors in selected European Union states with a clear emphasis on Central and Eastern Europe in connection with changes in the consumption model approached as an echo of the globalisation processes.

Following stormy debate regarding the role of globalisation and global space in development, geographical analyses are now tending to return to matters of place, and its role in people’s lives. Given that Latin America’s cities were founded by Europeans, one might expect them to be characterised by processes and phenomena similar to European experiences and general processes of globalisation today. In fact, however, specific socio-cultural features arising from both the colonial and pre-colonial past of this region, political factors (especially that reflecting the presence of powerful elites descended from the Spanish) and economic features (interest in the region’s resources being displayed by foreign investors) have all conspired to ensure that Latin America is characterised by a development trajectory distinct from those in other regions, as well as by contemporary structures in urbanised areas being shaped by diverse political and economic forces, mechanisms ever-present in the region’s culture and politic

The author analyzes one of the most well-known books of Peter Sloterdijk, Kryształowy pałac (In the World Interior of Capital: Towards a Philosophical Theory of Globalization). He notes that Sloterdijk is representing non-academic philosophy. From this perspective the German intellectual is examining consequences of the process of globalization. Additionally, the book documents leftist engagement to solving key questions of modernity. According to the author of the article, interpretations provided by the philosopher are also important for the description of the culture and literature of the borderland.

The aim of the paper is to summarise the development of shopping centres and their current locations, types and sizes in Warsaw and Bratislava using a comparative analysis method. Both cities are situated in post-communist countries where the transformation of the retail sector shows many similarities. Before the 1990s, globalisation processes could not be observed in the retail sector in either of these countries. After the 1990s, some new forms of retailing started to appear in both Warsaw and Bratislava. Supermarkets, hypermarkets and modern shopping centres came to existence as a new form of retailing which influenced other traditional forms of retailing in these cities.

The title of this article might suggest that it refers only to the global economy, discussing problems that are not important for particular localities, regions or universities. Such reasoning is however wrong. I the near future the globalisation of industries, services, investments, finance, labour markets and knowledge will expand, regardless the protectionism of nations. The effects of globalisation will touch everybody: countries, regions, local societies and individuals. If we want to be successful, both as a country and as individuals, we have to be well prepared for this process.

The aim of our research is to examine how individual dimensions of globalization affect economic poverty in the World. For this, regression models are estimated with FGT0 or FGT1 poverty measures as dependent variables and KOF indices of globalization as dependent variables. The poverty indices are estimated for 119 countries’ income distributions assuming log-normality and using Gini estimates from the WID2 database and GDP/capita from The World Bank database for the years 1990-2005. It has turned out that the “partial” impact of selected dimension of globalization on poverty is either linear or nonlinear, ceteris paribus. The nonlinear impact is of the U-shaped form or the inverted U-shaped form. Our results contradict some typical ‘linear’ findings when poverty measures are regressed only on one dimension of globalization. In other words, when some crucial dimensions of globalization are neglected in regression analysis the conclusions about impact of globalization on world poverty could be misleading.

The aim of the article is to show the importance of the sociological perspective for understanding the state in the globalized geopolitical order. It is about answering the basic problem question: Does the shaped perspective of sociological thinking affect the view of the state in the globalized geopolitical order? A working thesis can be put forward that it is possible to identify two basic perspectives that have such an impact on the contemporary view of the state as a subject of geopolitics in the global world. These perspectives can be described as problem-systemic on the one hand, and semiotic-interactionist on the other. Therefore, the article is a meta-theoretical look at sociology not only as a discipline of a neutral description of social modernity, but also as an important factor shaping it. The dominance of one or the other perspective is important especially in the description of the geopolitical conditions of the state in the globalized world.

The phenomenon of migration is accompanied by rapid and profound changes that gradually shape the present period of history. The phenomenon of migration is a very intensive process, which state authorities are forced to conform to specific regulations. Globalisation has affected the shape and extent of the migration of the population. The effect of globalization has become a phenomenon revive ethnic and cross-cultural migrations. Religious and cultural changes taking place on the European continent, and caused the migration of the population, are comparable to those which were the result of the Reformation in the sixteenth century. Currently, a large part of immigrants come from such different cultures that their integration in European society is extremely difficult. Europeans contact with people from other cultures causes interesting effects on the border law enforcement and preserving traditions inherited from their ancestors. The ideology of multiculturalism has suffered a crisis in many EU countries. Therefore, the EU legislator is forced to develop a new perspective on the integration process of migrants. The right to family reunification is an essential element of this process. It should be noted that a well-designed and effectively complied with the law in this area can contribute to the effective elimination of pathologies that are often an expression of overinterpretation of old tribal customs.

Every day, contemporary youngsters face limitations and exploit the possibilities offered by the global reality. The conditions which characterise the beginning of the 21st  century are vastly different from the times in which their parents and grandparents grew up. It would be futile to look for any kind of order in the world today, be it political, moral or economic one. The young, who experience temporariness and constant change, have to develop their own measures of coping with post-modern challenges. The principal issue presented in this paper is the occurrence of information and relational stress. The fast pace of local migration, the overload of information, the weakening of social bonds and the relationships lasting “here and now” are the shameful markers of the lifestyle of young people. These are also constitutive traits which distinguish contemporary teenagers from their predecessors. In the subsequent section, the author considers excessive consumption as a modern form of cult. Finally, attention is drawn to the incoherent and continually evolving identity of individuals, who seek to determine their place within the contemporary social structures.
