W swej Ethno- czy Multikulti-Comedy twórca kabaretowy tureckiego pochodzenia przybliża zwyczaje i język społeczeństwa wielokulturowego, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem największej grupy mniejszościowej w Niemczech, Turków. Autorka nie tylko przybliża główne założenia Ethno-/Multikulti-Comedy, lecz również dokonuje szczegółowej analizy form językowych używanych w skeczach Yanara.
The article is devoted to the work of one of the leading representatives of German comedy scene, Kaya Yanar. In his Ethnic- and Multi-culture-Comedy, the Turkish-German comedian depicts customs and language of a multicultural society, with a particular focus put on the largest minority group in Germany, the Turks. The author presents the characteristics of the genre of Ethnic- /Multi-culture-Comedy and conducts a detailed analysis of linguistic structures used in Yanar’s sketches.

The German heritage in Balkan languagesAll Balkan languages show some German elements in their vocabulary, beginning with Old Bulgarian Bible texts up to modern Balkan languages, including Bulgarian, Macedonian, Serbian, Albanian, Romanian and Modern Greek. Etymologies of Balkan words and German words must be distinguished. Loanwords in Balkan languages are confined to words which are traceable back to Germanic languages, e. g. Gothic, Old and Middle High German and contemporary German. Not only the word store but also onomastics were occasionally influenced by German languages, but it is not possible to speak of a German substrat or adstrat in the way we can speak of a Thracian or Illyrian substrat, or Greek or Romance adstrat. Dziedzictwo germańskie w językach bałkańskichW słownictwie każdego z języków bałkańskich występują pewne germańskie elementy, poczynając od starobułgarskich tekstów biblijnych, a kończąc na współczesnych językach bałkańskich, jakimi są: bułgarski, macedoński, serbski, albański, rumuński i nowogrecki. W badaniach nad etymologią należy wyraźnie rozgraniczać dwa nurty rozwojowe: germański i bałkański. Katalog zapożyczeń ograniczamy do wyrazów obecnych w językach bałkańskich, których etymologię możemy prześledzić wstecz do gockiego, staro- i środkowo-wysoko-niemieckiego oraz współczesnego niemieckiego. Nie tylko słownictwo, lecz także onomastyka wykazują okazjonalnie wpływy niemieckie, jednak w żadnym razie nie ma podstaw, by mówić o germańskim substracie czy adstracie w takim sensie, w jakim mówimy o substracie trackim czy iliryjskim, bądź adstracie romańskim lub greckim.

The former German Language Island Markowa (Eastern Poland) was grounded in the 14th century. There is only one written testimony of its language preserved – the Court Book. In was written in 16th and 17th century by two writters. The second one was the local priest Thomas Kraus who was born in the neighbor village of Albigowa. The language of the Court book consists many characteristics of the Central German.

Political cooperation between Poland and Germany has not been running smoothly lately. It has been a long time since those relations had such bad press. The idea of the Center Against Expulsions, the matter of war reparations or discussions concerning the shape of the European Constitution are the issues which have made our relations colder. However, there is a area of co-operation, the military sphere, where co-operation runs exemplary. In this article I would like to draw attention to a few issues connected with this matter.

The paper discusses the 2nd working draft of government’s bill of reform of Guardianship Law (2. Diskussionteilentwurf ). The fundamental concept of the reform is an overall remodeling of the legal structure of the Civil Code regulations, de-bureaucratization of the requirements regarding custody of the ward’s property, his/her empowerment, introduction of the privilege to choose a non-compensated Guardian before the other types of Guardians with the simultaneous abolition of the subsidiarity principle and the cancellation of the Gegenvormund institution (a form of control authority for the supervision of Guardian).

The aim of the paper is to analyse an ongoing Polish-German project devoted to the Polish philologist Zygmunt Łempicki (1886–1943) and to present the potential, structure, risks and chances of this endeavour involving scholars from Heidelberg, Warsaw and Wroclaw. The Łempicki grant is a work in progress and the author attempts to present how it came to be, starting with the application for the grant, and continuing with the way the cooperation was initiated and the first meetings held, in order to finally present the perspectives for the project’s outcomes. The paper attempts to present its dynamics in order to guarantee a unique insight into the challenges the head of the project meets with. The perspectives for research into the history of German philology in Poland are illustrated and discussed on the example of the specific initiative carried out by means of a cooperation between numerous institutions from different countries.

Modern physical culture was one of the many important processes that have taken over the political, social, and cultural life in Germany in the second half of the 19th century. At the turn of the 19th century in Germany, two big middle-class organizations have been formed to deal with physical activity affairs: the German Gymnastics Association (Deutsche Turnerschaft; the Turnverein) and dynamically-growing English sports. The paper demonstrates the relations between the Turnverein movement and the world of sport in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century. The German Gymnastics Association, an organization founded in the 60s of the 19th century, had long-time achievements initiated by the work of Friedrich Ludwig Jahn. Simultaneously, the world of sport in Germany was concentrated on the newly-founded in 1904 German Olympics Committee – primary organization bringing together several various federations of sport disciplines. It was an organization primarily brought into existence to coordinate the debut appearance of the German Empire in the restored by P. Coubertain Olympic Games.

The article aims to introduce the formal development of the verb tun (“do, make”) in the German language, based on the corpuses of old (http://titus.uni-frankfurt.de/indexe.htm), middle (https:// www.linguistics.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/rem/) and modern-new-high-German language (https://korpora.zim.uni-duisburg-essen.de/Fnhd/). However, the morphological analysis is primarily based on Józef Darski’s (1987, 2004, 2010) innovative model of linguistic analysis which, due to its synchronic character, has been adopted in diachronic research. The verb forms of tun, prone to modifications owing to multiple processes depending on both the stage of development and the language as a paradigm, reveal its capability of adaptation to the two basic classes of verbs, i.e. strong verbs and/or weak verbs and their subclasses. Additionally, it is possible to observe the processes of homogenization of the verb forms within a given paradigm and among the forms of distinct paradigms, mainly to stabilise them.

This article is a part of a broader study. Two more parts are planned in which this issue will be continued. The aim of this publication is to present the competences of the German territorial administration bodies in the General Government in the years 1939—1940. They resulted from the regulations established by the German occupation authorities. The internal structure of the study is based on a mixed criterion (substantive and chronological). In the first place, the regulations concerning administration at the district level are presented, in the second — at the poviat level, in the third — at the municipal level. Within these three parts, normative acts are referred to in chronological order.

“Gazeta Urzędowa Tomaszowska” (“Tomaschower Amtliche Zeitung”) was an organ of the Municipality of Tomaszów Mazowiecki. It appeared twice a week from December 1915 to June 1917. The magazine was printed in German and Polish. It contained ordinances and announcements of the occupying central and local authorities, as well as semi-official and private announcements. In total, 160 issues of the magazine were published. The article discusses the content of TAZ, emphasizing the undeniable historical value of the magazine for the history of Tomaszów Mazowiecki during the First World War.

The aim of the paper is to investigate to what degree the linguistic means used to emphasize a certain element in the text are received by German native speakers. The research is based on a purpose designed questionnaire consisting of two excerpts taken from parliamentary speeches in Bundestag. The questionnaire was administered to 55 German philology students at the University of Leipzig. The students’ task was to read the excerpts carefully and then to decide which elements in the text were emphasized by its author. The fi ndings of the study indicate how different means of textual emphasis (syntactic, lexical and rhetorical ones) are recognized by the students.

The Polish-German border is perceived as a symbolic border in the post-war Polish-Germanrelations. In this paper, a lot of attention is devoted to this border in the crucial moments of the Polish-German-relations, such as the tense situation in Poland and former East Germany, political changes in 1989 and Poland joining the EU and Schengen Zone. My discussion concerning the symbolism of the Polish-German border is not limited only to the analysis of historical facts and events, but it also centers on the mentality of Germans and Poles, their mutual perception, sympathy and aversion. It turns out that the abolishing of the state borders seems to be much easier than the reduction of the mental barriers/borders existing between Poles and Germans.
