Opis:
Vibration tests of marine gas turbine engines are performed as researches on-line and off-line types. The paper presents analyses of both methods. Results of tests were received on three types of gas turbine engines operated in the COGAG type propulsion systems. The application of periodical diagnostic procedures or on-line monitoring systems makes it possible to operate ship propulsion systems in accordance with their current technical state. In the case of ship gas turbines the hourly period of scheduled maintenance or repair surveys is presently the criterion for maintenance time determination. The Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is used for confirmation actual technical state. FEA are used successfully for a wide range of problems and it may also be used for the modelling and analysis of rotor system. Presently, the diagnostics team uses FEA and the modelling of rotordynamics in conjunction with vibration analysis for detection and identification of unbalancing. Main goal of researches was qualified of helpfulness and unequivocally results received by methods of synchronous measurement, order tracking and auto tracking. All vibration symptoms were chosen from the methodology of the diagnosing gas turbine engines operated in the Polish Navy, called BDS (Base Diagnosing System). This element of BDS is accepted and used in all ships of Polish Navy, which are powered by the COGAG power plant. Second purpose of researches was estimation of the possibility of implementation presented methods of vibration analyses of gas turbine engines fornew, modern on-line monitoring system. The proposed diagnostics method makes it possible to determine the limiting value of vibration symptoms witch, if exceeded, indicates the inadmissible axis slope value between rotated machines of gas turbine engine and, more-over, it provides an unambiguous relationship between the value of symptom of rotors unbalance and the rotors rotational speed.

The article compares the results of the measurements performed in the aerodynamic tunnel owned by the Czestochowa University of Technology and the numerical simulation done using the code FLUENT for a plane cascade of N3-60 profiles. The comparison study aims at assessing differences between the exit angles measured experimentally and those obtained from numerical calculations. Variable parameters in the measurements and the calculations were the relative pitch and the profile stagger angle. The measurements were performed in the flow of air. The same medium and having the same inlet parameters was assumed in the calculations. The calculations were performed in two dimensions for the compressible flow. The k-ĺ RNG turbulence model was used to complete the equation system. Comparing the measured and calculated results provides opportunities for assessing the range of differences between the experiment and the simulation. The obtained results and formulated conclusions will find the application not only in the power industry, but also in the shipbuilding industry for analysing the operation of steam and gas turbines used as main and auxiliary propulsion systems on both merchant vessels and battle ships.

Opis:
The paper concerns a propulsion system of merchant ships intended for sailing in the Baltic Sea zone. Such system is to satisfy the ecological requirements determined by relevant international conventions for special zones to which the Baltic Sea also belongs. The paper draws attention to gas turbine used as a prime mover for such ships, because it satisfies the ecological requirements and has also other advantages. Application of gas turbine for ship powering does not require exhaust gas to be purified, however it requires fuel oils of a low sulphur content to be used. If the ecological rules impose the using of the fuel oils of similar quality for diesel engines then gas turbine propulsion system will be comparable - also economically (regarding specific fuel oil consumption cost) - with that of diesel engine. It would be even more favourable in a combine gas turbine /steam turbine system, especially at compound production of electric and heat energy (i.e. COGES systems). In the Baltic Sea zone gas turbines willfind application to powering a. o. such ships as : fast car-passenger ferries, fast cargo ships, special vehicles (hydrofoils, hovercraft, motor yachts).

Cogeneration can be defined as the general production of thermodynamic heat and electricity from a single initial source of energy. The device, in which the process of cogeneration occurs, is called cogeneration device. Cogeneration changes separated electric energy and heat production. The separation of electric energy and heat production is characterized by substantial energy losses of initial fuel. In the separated power generation, the user receives the electric energy, which is produced by the large-scale power plants and heat is produced in high-efficiency boilers. In this case losses make about 40% in produced heat and 60% – produced electric energy.

deviation angle
Opis:
In the article, a set of deviation angle models, which are used to predict the off-design performance high-pressure turbines, has been presented, basing on a literature study. The deviation angle is a deviation between the actual flow angle and the blade inclination angle. It is an essential parameter in turbine performance evaluation. This angle shall be obtained accurately in 1-D design and evaluation, so as to ensure the validity of blade profiling and calculation results. If deviation angle is ignored, the turbine will produce a lower change of tangential velocity, and consequently a lower torque, output work and enthalpy drop than intended by the designer. For this reason, the deviation angle model needs to be established. There exist a number of different deviation models, resulting in varying degrees of flow deviation when applied. In the article, correlations for gas outlet angle, dependent on the Mach number at outlet and determined by the blade loading towards the trailing edge has been presented. The main difficulty in establishing the deviation model is a continuity in defining the angle for all speed ranges (both subcritical and supercritical). Each of the models presented in the article deals with this problem in a different way. A few deviation models, briefly discussed in the article, are based on experimental data and one is based on analytical approach.

Carbon dioxide is considered as one of the major contenders when the question of greenhouse effect arises. So for any industry or power plant it is of utmost importance to follow certain increasingly stringent environment protection rules and laws. So it is significant to keep eye on any possible methods to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in an efficient way. This paper reviews the available literature so as to try to provide an insight of the possibility of using Molten Carbonate Fuel Cells (MCFCs) as the carbon capturing and segregating devices and the various factors that affect the performance of MCFCs during the process of CO2 capture.

Opis:
This article presents a literature review about the physical analysis of the loss models, which are used in offdesign procedure for high-pressure turbines. A high-pressure turbine is designed to have maximum performance at design point. However, engines are operating in different conditions, and the comprehension of off-design conditions is very important. The loss mechanisms are very complex and predictions considering empirical methods are a good approach to have preliminary results. Based on these results, different researches have proposed theories about the loss mechanisms, and over the time, these models have been modified to describe better the phenomena involved between blades and flow. Once the physical mechanisms behind the loss models are known, it is possible to compare them and understand the reason why the results given for some methods present a higher agreement to experimental or numerical data. In this framework, 2D numerical simulations of the flow around the blades of an axial high pressure turbine with different off design conditions have been realized, by using ANSYS FLUENT® code, to show the losses described by some of these models. Using these simulations a loss model has been selected and implemented in Matlab® to compare its results with the experimental data found in literature.

Opis:
The paper concerns the design analysis of a hybrid gas turbine power plant with a fuel cell (stack). The aim of this work was to find the most favourable variant of the medium capacity (approximately 10 MW) hybrid system. In the article, computational analysis of two variants of such a system was carried out. The analysis made it possible to calculate the capacity, efficiency of both variants and other parameters like the flue gas temperature. The paper shows that such hybrid cycles can theoretically achieve extremely high efficiency over 60%. The most favourable one was selected for further detailed thermodynamic and flow calculations. As part of this calculation, a multi-stage axial compressor, axial turbine, fuel cell (stack) and regenerative heat exchanger were designed. Then an analysis of the profitability of the installation was carried out, which showed that the current state of development of this technology and its cost make the project unprofitable. For several years, however, tendencies of decreasing prices of fuel cells have been observed, which allows the conclusion that hybrid systems will start to be created. This may apply to both stationary and marine applications. Hybrid solutions related to electrical power transmission, including fuel cells, are real and very promising for smaller car ferries and shorter ferry routes.

The typical combined heat and power plants requires the introduction of additional heating medium. The alternative solution is the direct integration of the exhaust gases from heat engine. The high temperature, surplus oxygen and low water content of the GTs exhaust gases enabled the successful integration at industrial scale as: preheated combustion air for industrial furnaces, heat source for drying and for absorption chillers. The article comprises the reference list for direct exhaust gas integration of GTs produced by GE, the processes overview, GTs selection criteria, as well as the review of documented GTs applications in process industry focusing on technical and economic considerations. The described solutions allowed to reduce the specific energy consumption in the range from 7 to 20% or the costs of energy consumption by 15-30%. The overall efficiency of cogeneration plant above 90% was achieved. The preliminary assessment of potential applications for GTs produced by GE with TEG integration in Polish process industry is done.

Vibration diagnostic tests of marine gas turbine engines are performed as a research of on-line and off-line types. Off-line Systems are usually used for vibration analysis during non-steady state of work. The paper presents a new method of vibration diagnostics of rotor bearing system of gas turbine systems. The study assumes implementation of characteristics of vibration signals during the shut-down process of the rotor. The shut-down process is non-stationary so the studies used the order tracking procedure. Identified orders constitute individual characteristics as a function of changes of the rotational speed and shut-down process time. These allow the observation of changes in the support rigidity of the rotor in the frequency domain and change the bearing resistance torque as a function of changing time of the shut-down process. The resulting characteristics are as reference fingerprints for each of the rotors. Changes in the characteristics of the primary evidence of the processes of wear. Changes in the stiffness of rotor supports make change the amplitude of orders and frequency of the resonance signals observed in the frequency domain - decreasing rotational speed. The bearing wear results in changes in the shut-down time between successive intervals of characteristic rotational speed and the total shut-down time.
