Opis:
A fuzzy approach to segmentation of the cruciate ligaments of the knee joint and a three dimensional visualisation method are presented in this paper. The cruciate ligaments are the major stabilizers of the knee. The ligaments injuries are common nowadays and a correct diagnostics, preceding the surgical therapy is a very important task. Segmentation of the ligaments is difficult due to a poor visibility of edges in some cases of injuries and their appearance on a small number of slides at Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The method described here is based on fuzzy connectedness principles. It creates a fuzzy connectivity scene by assigning a strength of connectedness to each possible path between some predefined seed point and any other image element. Then such scene is thresholded to produce final segmentation result. The conventional fuzzy connectedness method with Dijkstra algorithm for creating the fuzzy connectivity scene has been implemented in a 3D space. The object, being the result of segmentation process, is visualised in the Visualisation Toolkit (VTK) environment. The method has been tested on a set of images. An example of its performance is shown along with some plans for future research.

Multi-Criteria Group Decision Making (MCGDM) aims to find a unique agreement from a number of decision makers/users by evaluating the uncertainty in judgments. In this paper, we present a General Type-2 Fuzzy Logic based approach for MCGDM (GFLMCGDM). The proposed system aims to handle the high levels of uncertainties which exist due to the varying Decision Makers’ (DMs) judgments and the vagueness of the appraisal. In order to find the optimal parameters of the general type-2 fuzzy sets, we employed the Big Bang-Big Crunch (BB-BC) optimization. The aggregation operation in the proposed method aggregates the various DMs opinions which allow handling the disagreements of DMs’ opinions into a unique approval. We present results from an application for the selection of reading lighting level in an intelligent environment. We carried out various experiments in the intelligent apartment (iSpace) located at the University of Essex. We found that the proposed GFL-MCGDM effectively handle the uncertainties between the various decision makers which resulted in producing outputs which better agreed with the users’ decision compared to type 1 and interval type 2 fuzzy based systems.

In this work, a class of neuro-computational classifiers are used for classification of fricative phonemes of Assamese language. Initially, a Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) based classifier is used for classification. Later, another neuro fuzzy classifier is used for classification. We have used two different feature sets for the work, one using the specific acoustic-phonetic characteristics and another temporal attributes using linear prediction cepstral coefficients (LPCC) and a Self Organizing Map (SOM). Here, we present the experimental details and performance difference obtained by replacing the RNN based classifier with an adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) based block for both the feature sets to recognize Assamese fricative sounds.

The application of quadcopter and intelligent learning techniques in urban monitoring systems can improve flexibility and efficiency features. This paper proposes a cloud-based urban monitoring system that uses deep learning, fuzzy system, image processing, pattern recognition, and Bayesian network. The main objectives of this system are to monitor climate status, temperature, humidity, and smoke, as well as to detect fire occurrences based on the above intelligent techniques. The quadcopter transmits sensing data of the temperature, humidity, and smoke sensors, geographical coordinates, image frames, and videos to a control station via RF communications. In the control station side, the monitoring capabilities are designed by graphical tools to show urban areas with RGB colors according to the predetermined data ranges. The evaluation process illustrates simulation results of the deep neural network applied to climate status and effects of the sensors’ data changes on climate status. An illustrative example is used to draw the simulated area using RGB colors. Furthermore, circuit of the quadcopter side is designed using electric devices.

Opis:
Groundwater quality modelling plays an important role in water resources management decision making processes. Accordingly, models must be developed to account for the inherent uncertainty that arises from the sample measurement stage through to the data interpretation stages. Artificial intelligence models, particularly fuzzy inference systems (FIS), have been shown to be effective in groundwater quality evaluation for complex aquifers. Applying fuzzy set theory to groundwater-quality related decision-making in an agricultural production context, the Mamdani, Sugeno, and Larsen fuzzy logic-based models (MFL, SFL, and LFL, respectively) were used to develop a series of new, generalized, rule-based fuzzy models for water quality evaluation using widely accepted irrigation indices. Rather than drawing upon physiochemical groundwater quality parameters, the present study employed widely accepted agricultural indices (e.g., irrigation criteria) when developing the MFL, SFL and LFL groundwater quality models. These newly-developed models, generated significantly more consistent results than the United States Soil Laboratory (USSL) diagram, addressed the inherent uncertainty in threshold data, and were effective in assessing groundwater quality for agricultural uses. The SFL model is recommended because it had the best performance in terms of accuracy when assessing groundwater quality using irrigation indices.
Zastosowanie teorii zbiorów rozmytych do podejmowania decyzji związanych z jakością wód podziemnych w kontekście produkcji rolnej, modele oparte na logice rozmytej Mamdaniego, Sugeno i Larsena (odpowiednio MFL, SFL i LFL) zostały wykorzystane do opracowania serii nowych, uogólnionych modeli, opartych na regułach rozmytych, do oceny jakości wody z wykorzystaniem powszechnie akceptowanych wskaźników nawadniania. Zamiast czerpać z jakościowych parametrów fizykochemicznych wód gruntowych, w niniejszym badaniu zastosowano powszechnie przyjęte wskaźniki rolne (np. kryteria nawadniania) podczas opracowywania modeli jakości wód podziemnych MFL, SFL i LFL. Za pomocą tych nowo opracowanych modeli, wygenerowano znacznie bardziej spójne wyniki niż z zastosowaniem diagramu Amerykańskiego Laboratorium Gleby (USSL), uwzględniono nieodłączną niepewność danych progowych. Modele te były skuteczne w ocenie jakości wód podziemnych do zastosowań rolniczych. Model SFL jest zalecany, ponieważ miał najlepszą efektywność pod względem dokładności w ocenie jakości wód podziemnych z użyciem wskaźników nawadniania.

Opis:
Evaluation of efficiency for every DMU (Decision Making Unit) in a company is a very important issue. Thus, the studies of evaluation of efficiency are being actively carried out on the basis of production functions. Until now, loglinear production function (Cobb-Douglas model) has been used for evaluation. This loglinear model evaluates DMUs by measuring the average. Recently, DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) has been applied as the available method involving, for example, the CCR (Charnes-Cooper-Rhodes) and BCC (Banker-Charnes-Cooper) models. However, the IDEA models do not have the lower limit on the production set, but only the upper limit. Since, however, we consider that the real problems have the production set extending from the lower limit to the upper limit, we propose the possibility production function obtained by introducing the fuzziness into the loglinear production function. As we try to evaluate the efficiency by this possibility production function we can obtain two efficiency ratings: for the upper and lower limits. Though both DEA and fuzzy loglinear model include all the DMU data, in the DEA approach we obtain the lower limit on inputs for the given output, while in the fuzzy loglinear approach we obtain the possibility maximum output for the given inputs. By making full use of the difference between the two approaches, we try to compare the DEA and the fuzzy loglinear model in the evaluation of efficiency of the DMUs. In terms of two efficiency ratings, fuzzy loglinear model can yield more exact ranking for every DMU than DEA. Genarally, when a DMU has efficiency less that 1 by fuzzy loglinear analysis, it means that there is a possibility of obtaining larger output for the given inputs.

Opis:
In a real world situation, whenever ambiguity exists in the modeling of intuitionistic fuzzy numbers (IFNs), interval valued intuitionistic fuzzy numbers (IVIFNs) are often used in order to represent a range of IFNs unstable from the most pessimistic evaluation to the most optimistic one. IVIFNs are a construction which helps us to avoid such a prohibitive complexity. This paper is focused on two types of arithmetic operations on interval valued intuitionistic fuzzy numbers (IVIFNs) to solve the interval valued intuitionistic fuzzy multi-objective linear programming problem with pentagonal intuitionistic fuzzy numbers (PIFNs) by assuming different α and β cut values in a comparative manner. The objective functions involved in the problem are ranked by the ratio ranking method and the problem is solved by the preemptive optimization method. An illustrative example with MATLAB outputs is presented in order to clarify the potential approach.

Opis:
The interrelation between fuzzy logic and cluster renewal approaches for heat transfer modeling in a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) has been established based on a local furnace data. The furnace data have been measured in a 1296 t/h CFB boiler with low level of flue gas recirculation. In the present study, the bed temperature and suspension density were treated as experimental variables along the furnace height. The measured bed temperature and suspension density were varied in the range of 1131–1156 K and 1.93–6.32 kg/m3, respectively. Using the heat transfer coefficient for commercial CFB combustor, two empirical heat transfer correlation were developed in terms of important operating parameters including bed temperature and also suspension density. The fuzzy logic results were found to be in good agreement with the corresponding experimental heat transfer data obtained based on cluster renewal approach. The predicted bed-to-wall heat transfer coefficient covered a range of 109–241 W/(m2K) and 111–240 W/(m2), for fuzzy logic and cluster renewal approach respectively. The divergence in calculated heat flux recovery along the furnace height between fuzzy logic and cluster renewal approach did not exceeded ±2%.

Opis:
Classical methods of data envelopment analysis operate by measuring the efficiency of decision- -making units (DMUs) compared to similar units, without taking their internal structure into account. However, some DMUs consist of two stages, with the first stage producing an intermediate product, which is then consumed in the second stage to produce the final output. The efficiency of this type of DMU is often measured using two-stage network data envelopment analysis. In real world, most data are vague. Therefore, the inputs and outputs of systems with vagueness data create uncertainty challenges for DMUs. As a result, when uncertainty appears, intuitionistic fuzzy sets can show more information than classical fuzzy sets. This paper presents a model of two-stage Network Data Envelopment Analysis based on intuitionistic fuzzy data, which measures the efficiency of the first and second stages of each DMU, and the overall efficiency measures based on the stage efficiencies.

Opis:
In view of the drawbacks in existing allocation methods which are incomplete considerations and poor practicality, a comprehensive fuzzy allocation method considering failure effects and reliability costs is proposed. Fuzzy linguistics and triangular fuzzy numbers are used to evaluate the uncertainty and subjective factors in allocation process. The traditional risk priority numbers (RPNs) are modified to overcome the shortages which are the same factor weights and equal difference of failure effects in original methods. State of the arts, components intricacy and working conditions are used to construct the reliability costs model, which solves the difficulties of costs statistics and avoids the sophisticated calculations which exist in current allocation methods. The relationship between reliability costs and potential risk of subsystem is studied and the value range of it is given in this paper. A case example is given to illustrative the scientificity and practicability of proposed allocation method.
W pracy wykorzystano lingwistykę rozmytą i trójkątne liczby rozmyte do oceny niepewności i czynników subiektywnych w procesie alokacji. Prezentowane studium przypadku demonstruje możliwe zastosowania i efektywność proponowanej metody.

We present a framework of L-fuzzy modifiers for L being a complete lattice. They are used to model linguistic hedges that act on linguistic terms represented by L-fuzzy sets. In the modelling process the context is taken into account by means of L-fuzzy relations, endowing the L-fuzzy modifiers with a clear inherent semantics. To our knowledge, these L-fuzzy modifiers are the first ones proposed that are suitable to perform this representation task for a lattice L different from the unit interval. In the latter case they undoubtedly outperform the traditional representations, such as powering and shifting hedges, from the semantical point of view.

Fuzzy clustering plays an important role in intelligent systems design and the respective methods constitute a part of the areas of automation and robotics. This paper describes a modification of a direct algorithm of possibilistic clustering that takes into account the information coming from the labeled objects. The clustering method based on the concept of allotment among fuzzy clusters is the basis of the new algorithm. The paper provides the description of basic ideas of the method and the plan of the basic version of a direct possibilistic-clustering algorithm. A plan of modification of the direct possibilistic-clustering algorithm in the presence of information from labeled objects is proposed. An illustrative example of the method's application to the Sneath and Sokal's two-dimensional data in comparison with the Gaussian-clustering method is carried out. Safety analysis of navigation over a given area may cover application of various risk measures for ship collisions. One of them is percentage of the so called near- miss situations (potential collision situations). In this article a method of automatic detection of such situations based on the data from Automatic Identification System (AIS), is proposed. The method utilizes input parameters such as: collision risk measure based on ship’s domain concept, relative speed between ships as well as their course difference. For classification of ships encounters, there is used a neuro-fuzzy network which estimates a degree of collision hazard on the basis of a set of rules. The worked out method makes it possibile to apply an arbitrary ship’s domain as well as to learn the classifier on the basis of opinions of experts interpreting the data from the AIS.
