Opis:
Let L be a second order, linear, parabolic partial differential operator, with bounded Hölder continuous coefficients, defined on the closure of the strip $X = ℝ^{n} × ]0,a[$. We prove a representation theorem for an arbitrary $C^{2,1}$ function, in terms of the fundamental solution of the equation Lu=0. Such a theorem was proved in an earlier paper for a parabolic operator in divergence form with $C^{∞}$ coefficients, but here much weaker conditions suffice. Some consequences of the representation theorem, for the solutions of Lu=0, are also presented.

Opis:
The paper presents two methods of solving the Poisson equation. One is based on the multiple reciprocity method. An analytical form of the basic solution obtained by means of inverse operation technique enabled assessing the method's error. The other is based on source function expansion into a series according to polyharmonic functions. Further polyharmonic functions have been obtained through inverse operations (with the delta -1 operator) applied to polyharmonic functions. Numerical results have confirmed perfect efficiency of both methods.

Opis:
The present paper deals with the study of a fundamental solution in transversely isotropic thermoelastic media with mass diffusion and voids. For this purpose, a two-dimensional general solution in transversely isotropic thermoelastic media with mass diffusion and voids is derived first. On the basis of the obtained general solution, the fundamental solution for a steady point heat source on the surface of a semi-infinite transversely isotropic thermoelastic material with mass diffusion and voids is derived by nine newly introduced harmonic functions. The components of displacement, stress, temperature distribution, mass concentration and voids are expressed in terms of elementary functions and are convenient to use. From the present investigation, some special cases of interest are also deduced and compared with the previous results obtained, which prove the correctness of the present result.

Opis:
The problem describing a ship motion in waves comprises the Laplace equation, boundary condition on wetted surface of the ship, condition on the free surface of the sea in the form of a differential equation, the radiation condition, and a condition at infinity. This problem can be transformed to a Fredholm equation of second kind, and then numerically solved using the boundary element method, if the fundamental solution of the problem is known. This paper presents the derivation of the fundamental solution. In physical interpretation, the fundamental solution represents the moving and pulsating source under free surface of the sea. The free surface elevation, generated by the source for different forward speed and frequency of pulsation, is presented in this paper.

Opis:
For a shape optimization problem second derivatives are investigated, obtained by a special approach for the description of the boundary variation and the use of a potential ansatz for the state. The natural embedding of the problem in a Banach space allows the application of a standard differential calculus in order to get second derivatives by a straight forward "repetition of differentiation". Moreover, by using boundary value characerizations for more regular data, a complete boundary integral representation of the second derivative of the objective is possible. Basing on this, one easily obtains that the second derivative contains only normal components for stationary domains, i.e. for domains, satisfying the first order necessary condition for a free optimum. Moreover, the nature of the second derivative is discussed, which is helpful for the investigation of sufficient optimality conditions.

Opis:
As a combination of the traditional finite element method and boundary element method, the n-sided polygonal hybrid finite element method with fundamental solution kernels, named as HFS-FEM, is thoroughly studied in this work for two-dimensional heat conduction in fully anisotropic media. In this approach, the unknown temperature field within the polygon is represented by the linear combination of anisotropic fundamental solutions of problem to achieve the local satisfaction of the related governing equations, but not the specific boundary conditions and the continuity conditions across the element boundary. To tackle such a shortcoming, the frame temperature field is independently defined on the entire boundary of the polygonal element by means of the conventional one-dimensional shape function interpolation. Subsequently, by the hybrid functional with the assumed intra- and inter-element temperature fields, the stiffness equation can be obtained including the line integrals along the element boundary only, whose dimension is reduced by one compared to the domain integrals in the traditional finite elements. This means that the higher computing efficiency is expected. Moreover, any shaped polygonal elements can be constructed in a unified form with the same fundamental solution kernels, including convex and non-convex polygonal elements, to provide greater flexibility in meshing effort for complex geometries. Besides, the element boundary integrals endow the method higher versatility with a non-conforming mesh in the pre-processing stage of the analysis over the traditional FEM. No modification to the HFS-FEM formulation is needed for the non-conforming mesh and the element containing hanging nodes is treated normally as the one with more nodes. Finally, the accuracy, convergence, computing efficiency, stability of non-convex element, and straightforward treatment of non-conforming discretization are discussed for the present n-sided polygonal hybrid finite elements by a few applications in the context of anisotropic heat conduction.

Green’s functions for a multifield material subjected to a point heat source are presented in an explicit analytical form. The study concerns the steady-state thermal loading infi- nite region, half-space region and two-constituent magneto-electro-thermo-elastic material region. The new mono-harmonic potential functions, obtained by the author, are used in the analysis. The elastic displacement, electric potential, magnetic potential and induced by those coupled multifield physical quantities, caused by internal or external heat sources, are limited and presented in a very useful form, exactly and explicitly.

A special description of the boundary variation in a shape optimization problem is investigated. This, together with the use of a potential theory for the state, result in natural embedding of the problem in a Banach space. Therefore, standard differential calculus can be applied in order to prove the Frechet-differentiability of the cost function for appropriately chosen data (sufficiently smooth). Moreover, necessary optimality conditions are obtained in a similar way as in other approaches, and are expressed in terms of an adjoint state for more regular data.

The paper describes an approach to solving parabolic partial differential equations that generalizes the well-known parametrix method. The iteration technique proposed exhibits faster convergence than the classical parametrix approach. A solution is constructed on a manifold with the application of the Laplace-Beltrami operator. A theorem is formulated and proved to provide a basis for finding a unique solution. Simulation results illustrate the superiority of the proposed approach in comparison with the classical parametrix method.

In this paper we consider Bessel equations of the type $t^2 X^{(2)}(t) + t X^{(1)}(t) + (t^2 I - A^2)X(t) = 0$, where A is an n$\times$n complex matrix and X(t) is an n$\times$m matrix for t > 0. Following the ideas of the scalar case we introduce the concept of a fundamental set of solutions for the above equation expressed in terms of the data dimension. This concept allows us to give an explicit closed form solution of initial and two-point boundary value problems related to the Bessel equation.
