Opis:
High-dose chemotherapy currently used in the treatment of children with cancer may induce late effects on psychosocial and cognitive functioning in some of them. The aim of the study was to evaluate psychosocial functioning of childhood cancer survivors living in rural regions. In total, 29 children entered the study. The children were diagnosed as having cancer between 1993-1995 in a single centre. Each patient was examined 5 years after the completion of cancer therapy. The children had been diagnosed with leukemia and lymphoma (72.4%), and solid tumours. Self-report questionnaires, as well as standardized psychological test (WISC-R, WAIS-R-PL) were performed for the evaluation of psychosocial and cognitive functioning of the patients. Most of the studied cancer survivors living in rural areas did not reveal diffi culties with cognitive and psychosocial functioning. In some patients, however, we observed more diffi culties in verbal tasks and existing major learning diffi culties. Cancer survivors living in rural areas in our region may be more unprivileged due to poor additional supporting services.

Self-compassion is considered to be a healthy and adaptive attitude towards oneself, occurring both as a feature, as well as a state. Self-compassionate attitude towards oneself is composed of: a) kindness and understanding given to oneself b) mindfulness of one’s own experiences and c) a sense of community of experiences with humanity. Compassion towards oneself is structurally and functionally distinct from the self-commiseration and self-pity that lead to worse adaptation. Research shows that self-compassion is associated with better regulation of negative emotions. Neff (2003 a) in her theoretical assumption states that due to more effective emotion regulation , people with a higher level of selfcompassion can generally cope better with reality. Therefore a question arises as to what the relationship is between a compassionate attitude towards oneself and social functioning of people. This article is a review of research that has been conducted so far regarding relations between self-compassion and the various dimensions of social functioning.

The concept of catena in landscape surveys is used to demonstrate the surroundings of landscape units, their vertical structure and inter-unit processes, as well as the mosaic nature of the landscape. Furthermore, it reflects the structural and functional heterogeneity of the surveyed area, at the same time indicating types of links between landscape units, depending on a variety of geological, habitat-related and biotic conditions, including land use and its transformation arising from anthropopressure. The catena survey performed included four key morphological and lithological units with varied landscape structure and functioning: glacial upland, vast outwash plains, the Wisła River valley and deepened channel valleys, as well as dune hills and hillocks. The results prove that the functioning of landscape systems depends on the forms of land use and their durability. Characteristics of leading components in catenas are diverse despite a similar genesis of landforms and relief shaping processes.

The article concerns social functioning of women with Turner syndrome, focusing particularly on their family life (relations with parents, siblings, partner and children), and relations with others (friends, acquaintances, workmates and members of TS support organizations). The author also tries to find correlations between growth hormone treatment, sex hormones treatment, age of TS diagnosis, karyotype and social functioning of TS women. Turner Syndrome is a quite common (1 in every 2500 live female births) human genetic disorder which affects only females. Females with TS lack all or part of one of two sex X chromosomes. The phenotype of TS women includes short stature and ovarian failure (which usually causes infertility) specific anatomic abnormalities (such as a short neck with a webbed appearance, a low hairline at the back of the neck, and low-set ears) and characteristic neurocognitive profile, which usually does not include mental retardation. The treatment of TS girls includes growth hormone and sex hormones therapy. 71 women took part in the study (30 from Poland and 41 from other countries – USA, Australia and United Kingdom). Researches indicated that generally women with TS showed relatively good functioning in relations in family of origin (with parents and siblings) and in social environment (quite high professional activity, good functioning in relations with friends and acquaintances). Relations with parents, especially with mothers, were usually very close, but often revealed overprotective parents’ attitude towards TS women (even in their adult life). Relations with fathers were slightly worse, more often revealing lack of fathers’ acceptance towards TS women. Relations with siblings were rather close, but again revealed overprotective siblings’ attitude towards TS sisters. Researches also revealed relatively weak functioning of TS women in relations in family of procreation (with partner and children).

Wstęp. Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza zależności pomiędzy przekonaniami o kontaktach interpersonalnych, samooceną oraz obrazem siebie i świata a nasileniem skłonności do problemowego korzystania z gier komputerowych. Materiał i metody. Przebadano 270 uczniów szkół średnich, przy czym do dalszych analiz wybrano 142 osoby grające w gry komputerowe. W badaniach użyto Kwestionariusza Problemowego Korzystania z Gier (Tejeiro Salguero, Bersabé Morán 2002) oraz Kwestionariusza Nastawień Intrapersonalnych, Interpersonalnych i Nastawień wobec Świata (Wysocka 2011). Wyniki. Chłopcy przejawiają większą ilość symptomów problemowego korzystania z gier komputerowych niż dziewczęta. Ponadto w grupie chłopców wykazano różnice w zakresie samooceny, przekonań o relacjach interpersonalnych oraz obrazu życia pomiędzy grupami o różnym nasileniu nałogowego używania gier komputerowych. Wnioski. Problemowe korzystanie z gier komputerowych w większym stopniu dotyczą adolescentów płci męskiej. Dlatego też powinni stanowić oni grupę, do której należy kierować oddziaływania profilaktyczne. Oprócz tego potrzebne są kolejne badania nad specyfiką grania w gry komputerowe wśród dziewcząt.
Introduction. The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between young people’s beliefs about the their interpersonal relationships, self-esteem, self-image and the world and their compulsive tendency to use of computer games. Material and methods. The study involved 270 high school student, from which 142 computer games players were selected for further analysis. The study used The Problem Video Game Playing Questionnaire (Tejeiro Salguero, Bersabé Morán 2002) and The Questionnaire on Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Attitudes and those Towards the World (Wysocka 2011). Results. Boys exhibited more symptoms of compulsive use of computer games than girls. In addition, in their population there were groups who demonstrated varying severity of compulsive use of computer games with visible differences in their self-esteem, beliefs about interpersonal relations and attitudes towards life. Conclusions. The problematic use of computer games concerned, to a greater extent, male adolescents. Therefore, they should be the group to which preventive measures should be directed. In addition, some further research on the specifics of females playing computer games is needed.

Niniejszy artykuł jest próbą syntezy wyników badań nad znaczeniem współnauczania dla przebiegu procesu edukacji. W pierwszej części tekstu zdefiniowano pojęcie współnauczania i dokonano klasyfikacji obszarów, w ramach których analizowane jest współnauczanie. Następnie opisano istniejące modele współnauczania, czynniki, od których może zależeć jakość współpracy między nauczycielami, a także korzyści płynące z takiego sposobu współpracy dla pedagogów. Na końcu omówiono znaczenie współnauczania dla uczniów zarówno w aspekcie ich rozwoju poznawczego, jak i społecznego.
This manuscript attempts to synthesise results of research on importance of co-teaching for the process of education. In the first part of the text we defined co-teaching and we classified areas, in which co-teaching is analysed. Further, we described existing models of co-teaching, potential determinants of cooperation between teachers, as well as benefits of such way of collaboration. At the end we discussed importance of co-teaching for students – in the case of cognitive, as well as social functioning.

Objective: The aim of the study was to determine whether the intensity of cognitive complaints can, in conjunction with other selected variables, predict the general level of cognitive functions evaluated with the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) test. Current reports do not show clear conclusions on this subject. Some data indicate that cognitive complaints have a predictive value for low scores in standardised tasks, suggesting cognitive dysfunction (e.g. mild cognitive impairment). Other data, however, do not support the predictive role of complaints, and show no relationship to exist between the complaints and the results of cognitive tests. Material and methods: The study included 118 adults (58 women and 60 men). We used the MoCA test, a self-report questionnaire assessing the intensity of cognitive complaints (Patient-Reported Outcomes in Cognitive Impairment – PROCOG and Dysexecutive Questionnaire/Self – DEX-S), and selected subtests of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R PL). On the basis of the results from the MoCA test, two separate groups were created, one comprising respondents with lower results, and one – those who obtained scores indicating a normal level of cognitive function. We compared these groups according to the severity of the complaints and the results obtained with the other methods. Logistic regression analysis was performed taking into account the independent variables (gender, age, result in PROCOG, DEX-S, and neurological condition) and the dependent variable (dichotomized result in MoCA). Results: Groups with different levels of performance in MoCA differed in regards of some cognitive abilities and the severity of complaints related to semantic memory, anxiety associated with a sense of deficit and loss of skills, but provided similar self-assessments regarding the efficiency of episodic memory, long-term memory, social skills and executive functions. The severity of complaints does not allow us to predict the level of cognitive functions. Older age, male sex, and neurological diseases all increase the likelihood of lower MoCA outcomes. Conclusions: Because of the large prevalence of complaints in the population of patients with neurologic deficits and healthy persons alike, and the difficulty in determining the significance of the complaints for the clinical psychological diagnosis/prognosis, it is necessary to expand the research to include biomarkers of brain pathology and other factors.
Cel: Celem podjętych badań było określenie, czy nasilenie skarg na osłabienie poznawcze wraz z innymi wybranymi zmiennymi pozwala przewidywać ogólny poziom funkcji poznawczych ocenianych Montrealską Skalą Funkcji Poznawczych (Montreal Cognitive Assessment, MoCA). Aktualne doniesienia nie zawierają jednoznacznych wniosków na ten temat. Część danych wskazuje, że skargi na osłabienie poznawcze mają wartość predyktywną dla niskich wyników uzyskiwanych w zadaniach standaryzowanych, sugerujących rozwój dysfunkcji poznawczych (np. łagodnych zaburzeń poznawczych), inne natomiast nie potwierdzają predyktywnej roli skarg i nie wykazują powiązań między skargami na osłabienie poznawcze a rezultatami testów poznawczych. Materiał i metoda: W badaniach uczestniczyło 118 dorosłych osób, w tym 58 kobiet i 60 mężczyzn. Wykorzystano test MoCA, kwestionariusze samoopisowe oceniające nasilenie skarg poznawczych (PatientReported Outcomes in Cognitive Impairment – PROCOG i Dysexecutive Questionnaire/Self – DEX-S) oraz wybrane podtesty Skali Inteligencji D. Wechslera dla Dorosłych, wersji zrewidowanej (WAIS-R PL). Na postawie wyniku MoCA wydzielono dwie grupy osób: o niższym wyniku i o wyniku wskazującym na prawidłowy poziom funkcji poznawczych. Porównano te grupy ze względu na nasilenie skarg oraz wyniki uzyskane przy użyciu pozostałych metod. Następnie wykonano analizę regresji logistycznej z uwzględnieniem zmiennych niezależnych (płeć, wiek, wynik w PROCOG i DEX-S, stan neurologiczny) i zmiennej zależnej (zdychotomizowany wynik w MoCA). Wyniki: Grupy o różnym poziomie wykonania MoCA różniły się pod względem wybranych zdolności poznawczych oraz nasilenia skarg dotyczących pamięci semantycznej, niepokoju związanego z poczuciem deficytów i utraty nabytych umiejętności, podobnie natomiast oceniały sprawność pamięci epizodycznej i długotrwałej, kompetencje społeczne oraz funkcje wykonawcze. Nasilenie skarg nie pozwala przewidywać poziomu funkcji poznawczych. Starszy wiek, płeć męska i obciążenia neurologiczne zwiększają prawdopodobieństwo obniżenia wyników w MoCA. Wnioski: Ze względu na powszechność skarg w populacji osób obciążonych neurologicznie i osób zdrowych, a także z uwagi na trudności w określaniu znaczenia skarg w klinicznej diagnozie/prognozie psychologicznej należy poszerzyć badania z uwzględnieniem biomarkerów patologii mózgowej i innych zmiennych.

Their aim isn’t however an attempt to undermine their faith in the causative force of conscience, but to show that it’s theological interpretation is one thing, but it’s practical application is another. It is worth noting that both in the past and in the present they not just function simultaneously, but also in some cases being in conflict. They were and still are undertaken attempts of erasing this conflict or at least to weaken its significance. In my view, it does not serve well the Roman Catholic Church, and also those who seek other guides for their lives and existence with other people. They weaken the trust towards the Church and the conscience in which existence we believe, or at least want to (no matter the religious affiliation).

The goal of this study was to investigate how infertility changes couples’ relations, communication and sexual functioning. In the research participated 50 women during the treatment of infertility and 50 healthy women in the control group. The study confirmed our hypothesis. Couples during the treatment of infertility have more problems in their relationship (in comparison to couples without infertility problem) in following aspects: communication, task accomplishment and role performance, affective expression, affective involvement, values and norms. Communication in both groups (study group as well as control group) correlates with sexual satisfaction, the correlation between couples’ relations and sexual satisfaction are higher in healthy women group than in infertile women group.

The academic strife to parse, investigate and adjust human functioning establishes varieties of at least three key concepts: behavior, action, activity. Depending on the general approach chosen, human functioning is therefore defined in a certain way and in a certain understanding of freedom. Within this paper, the pragmatist considerations of John Dewey (1859-1952) offer a sophisticatedly formulated theory of human functioning that, undoubtedly, takes action-theoretical paths but formulates underlying assumptions in a significantly unusual way. The main focus is to outline the theory in such a way that clearly shows the unusual as part of the usual and the usual as part of the unusual. For this purpose, the first section defines action as the basic category of Deweyan human functioning where sensory stimuli, registering elements and motor responses play a leading role, but according to Dewey questions the today still popular model of behaviorist psychology, that positions isolated and a-cultural stimulus-response-procedures in the human organism. The second section affirms the theoretical inclusion of deliberative elements that constitute human action, but according to Dewey witnesses their substantial and rather sporadic significance in a predominantly habitual human functioning. The conclusive section outlines the possibilities and limits of transforming habitually inured patterns of human conduct by means of reconstructive habits.

The article discusses a vital problem of the legal restrictions imposed on single-member limited liability companies under the provisions in force. In the first part of the text, the author explores the binding regulations applicable to single-member companies and arranges them in a way that it is possible to classify them within the legal framework. In the second part, the author deals with the legitimacy of existence of the said restrictions on the functioning of single-member companies, analyses the superficiality of application of particular solutions, and defines the most significant directions of changes necessary to abolish the restrictions imposed on single-member limited liability companies.

The aim of the study was to assess self-reported individual differences in the use of the inner speech of adolescents with Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder (SCD) and in particular to answer the questions: Do adolescent with SCD have inner speech and what is the direction of this speech? Is this a monologue and internal dialogue, i.e., do they speak to themselves (internal monologue) or to other people (internal dialogue)? We tested 22 adolescents with SCD, diagnosed according to the DSM-5 criterion. The average age was 16.48 years, SD = 2.71. The youngest patient was 12 years old and the oldest was 19 years old. The modified version of the Puchalska-Wasyl Scale of Inner Speech was used for the study. The questionnaire was tailored to the capabilities of the persons with SCD and included questions about the occurrence of internal speech and the direction of this speech, that is, internal conversations to yourself (internal monologue) or to other people (internal dialogue). The patients participating in the experiment were informed in detail about the whole procedure and they or their parents, if they were under age, provided written consent for their participation in the experiment (according to the guidelines of the Helsinki Declaration, 2008). Statistical analysis showed that in adolescents with SCD there is a statistically significant relationship in the frequency of the monologue and internal dialogue. Persons who declared a more frequent occurrence of internal dialogue also declared more frequent occurrences of internal monologue, which means that they had the general ability for inner speech. A comparison of the direction of inner speech, that is the internal monologue and internal dialogue has shown that during inner speech they more often use internal dialogue than internal monologue. It was found that in adolescents with SCD, inner speech is present, and it manifests itself in the form of an internal monologue and internal dialogue. However, far more often do they use internal dialogue than internal monologue.
