Opis:
The effect of material inhomogeneity on displacements and stresses of an internally pressurized clamped-clamped thick hollow cylinder made of functionally graded materials is investigated. The modulus of elasticity is graded along the radial direction according to power functions of the radial direction. It is assumed that Poisson’s ratio is constant across the cylinder thickness. The governing differential equations were generally derived, making use of the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT). Following that, the set of non-homogenous linear differential equations for the cylinder with clamped-clamped ends was solved, and the effect of loading and supports on the stresses and displacements was investigated. The problem was also solved, using the finite element method (FEM), the results of which were compared with those of the analytical method.

Opis:
Assuming exponential-varying properties in the radial direction and based on the elasticity theory, an exact closed-form analytical solution is obtained to elastic analysis of FGM thick-walled cylindrical pressure vessels in the plane strain condition. Following this, radial distribution of radial displacement, radial stress, and circumferential stress are plotted for different values of material inhomogeneity constant. The displacements and stresses distributions are compared with the solutions of the finite element method (FEM).

Opis:
The present study deals with the linear elastic analysis of variable thickness rotating disks made of functionally graded materials (FGMs) by the finite element method. The disks have radially varying material properties according to an exponential law, which is achieved by the element based grading of the material properties on the meshed domain. The results are reported for three types of thickness profiles, namely, uniform, linearly varying and concave thickness, having their mass constant. The disks are subjected to the clamped boundary condition at the inner surface and the free boundary condition at the outer surface. The obtained results show that in a variable thickness rotating disk, deformation and stresses are less as compared to the uniform thickness disk.

Opis:
This paper demonstrates the stress free thermo-elastic problem of the FGM thick plate. Existence of such a purely thermal deformation is proved in two ways. First proof is based on application of the Iljushin thermo-elastic potential to displacement type system of equations. This reduces 3D problem to the plane stress state problem. Next it is shown that the unique solution fulfils conditions of simultaneous constant temperature and linear gradation of thermal expansion coefficient. Second proof is based directly on stress type system of equations which straightforwardly reduces to compatibility equations for purely thermal deformation. This occurs if only stress field is homogeneous in domain and at boundary. Finally an example of application to an engineering problem is presented.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is the numerical analysis of the one of main part of car engine – piston sleeve. The first example is for piston sleeve made of metal matrix composite (MMC) A356R. The second improved material structure is layered. Both of them are comparison to the classical structure of piston sleeve made of Cr-Ni stainless steel. The layered material structure contains the anti-abrasion layer at the inner surface of piston sleeve, where the contact and friction is highest, FGM (functionally graded material) interface and the layer of virgin material on the outer surface made of A356R. The complex thermo-elastic model with Archard's condition as a wear law is proposed. The piston sleeve is modelling as a thin walled cylindrical axisymmetric shell. The coupled between the formulation of thermoelasticity of cylindrical axisymmetric shell and the Archard’s law with functionally changes of local hardness is proposed.
