Opis:
A parabolic initial boundary value problem and an associated elliptic Dirichlet problem for an infinite weakly coupled system of semilinear differential-functional equations are considered. It is shown that the solutions of the parabolic problem is asymptotically stable and the limit of the solution of the parabolic problem as t → ∞ is the solution of the associated elliptic problem. The result is based on the monotone methods.

Sufficient conditions that guarantee exponential decay to zero of the variable delay difference equation $x(n + 1) = a(n)x(n) + b(n)x(n − g(n))$ are obtained. These sufficient conditions are deduced via inequalities by employing Lyapunov functionals. In addition, a criterion for the instability of the zero solution is established. The results in the paper generalizes some results in the literature.

Opis:
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear is a common injury in basketball. Its consequence is a long absence from training, resulting from surgical treatment and long physiotherapy. The aim of the study was to assess muscle strength, postural stability and functional movements in female basketball players, who returned to professional sport careers after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Methods: The study population consisted of 10 female basketball players after surgical reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament. The control group consisted of 10 players without ACL injury. We used the Biodex System 4 Pro dynamometer to assess the muscle strength of the knee. We used it to conduct the test of flexors and extensors of the knee in isokinetic conditions. We also used Keiser Power Squat A300 in the single leg squat to measure power and the Biodex Balance SD dynamographic platform to assess balance in single leg stance. Results: We found deficits in both movement patterns and in muscle strength in the study population, compared to control group. Conclusions: The basketball players after ACL reconstruction had significant differences between the operated and non-operated limb. The differences may predispose them towards repeated ACL injuries.

Opis:
Polyethylene glycol polynitrates may be used as plasticizers in propellants. In this study, ten derivatives of ethylene glycol dinitrate were investigated using the density functional theory method. The fitted densities (ρ’exp.) were obtained and were very close to the experimental values. The detonation properties were predicted using the modified Kamlet-Jacobs equations and the specific impulse (Is) was evaluated according to the largest exothermic principle. A new indicator, K = Is · ρ’exp., is proposed to evaluate the energetic characteristics of the plasticizers. Thermal stability is discussed by calculating the bond dissociation energies or energy barriers. The O−NO2 bond is the trigger bond for all of the compounds studied. Considering the energetic properties and stability, diethylene glycol tetranitrate, triethylene glycol hexanitrate, tetraethylene glycol octanitrate, pentaethylene glycol decanitrate and hexaethylene glycol dodecanitrate are potential energetic plasticizers for solid propellants. The influences of the −O−CH2−CH2− and −O−CH(ONO2)−CH(ONO2)− groups are also discussed, which will be helpful for the design of new highly energetic plasticizers by modifying the structures as required.

The paper is devoted to a particular case of the nonlinear and nonautonomous control law design problem based on the application of the optimization approach. Close attention is paid to the controlled plants, which are presented by affine-control mathematical models characterized by integral quadratic functionals. The proposed approach to controller design is based on the optimal damping concept firstly developed by V.I. Zubov in the early 1960s. A modern interpretation of this concept allows us to construct effective numerical procedures of control law synthesis initially oriented to practical implementation. The main contribution is the proposition of a new methodology for selecting the functional to be damped. The central idea is to perform parameterization of a set of admissible items for this functional. As a particular case, a new method of this parameterization has been developed, which can be used for constructing an approximate solution to the classical optimization problem. Applicability and effectiveness of the proposed approach are confirmed by a practical numerical example.

Opis:
This paper considers the problem of designing an observer-based output feedback controller to exponentially stabilize a class of linear systems with an interval time-varying delay in the state vector. The delay is assumed to vary within an interval with known lower and upper bounds. The time-varying delay is not required to be differentiable, nor should its lower bound be zero. By constructing a set of Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals and utilizing the Newton-Leibniz formula, a delay-dependent stabilizability condition which is expressed in terms of Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) is derived to ensure the closed-loop system is exponentially stable with a prescribed \alfa-convergence rate. The design of an observer based output feedback controller can be carried out in a systematic and computationally efficient manner via the use of an LMI-based algorithm. A numerical example is given to illustrate the design procedure.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study is to demonstrate the relationship between functional shortening of the rectus femoris muscle, hamstring muscle and knee proprioception in patients after anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] rupture. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A group of 35 men with ACL rupture (without ACL reconstruction), aged 18 to 43 years (28 ± 7.4 years) was enrolled in the study. Firstly, the functional shortening of above mentioned muscles was evaluated in both healthy and injured lower limbs. Knee joint proprioception was assessed using a BTE Primus RS by examining the angular deviation from the center of the kinetic range in the knee joint with and without visual inspection. RESULTS: A statistically significant positive correlation was found between the functional shortening of the hamstrings and the proprioception of the flexion motion assessed under conditions without visual inspection. In addition, a statistically significant negative correlation was found between the functional shortening of the rectus femoris muscle of the injured lower limb and proprioception of the knee flexion movement assessed under conditions without visual inspection. CONCLUSIONS: A deficit of knee proprioception correlates with the functional shortening of the thigh muscles. Pa-tients with functional shortening of the rectus femoris have better knee proprioception. Patients with functional shortening of hamstrings have worse knee proprioception.
Ponadto stwierdzono istotną statystycznie ujemną korelację między funkcjonalnym skróceniem mięśnia prostego uda nogi uszkodzonej a kinestezją ruchu zgięcia kolana ocenianego w warunkach bez kontroli wzroku. WNIOSKI: Deficyt propriocepcji kolana koreluje z funkcjonalnym skróceniem mięśni uda. Pacjenci z funkcjonalnym skróceniem mięśnia prostego uda mają lepszą kinestezję stawu kolanowego, natomiast u pacjentów z funkcjonalnym skróceniem ścięgien podkolanowych stwierdzono gorszą kinestezję stawu kolanowego.

The paper deal with classical solutions of initial boundary value problems for infinite systems of nonlinear differential functional equations. Two types of difference schemes are constructed. First we show that solutions of our differential problem can be approximated by solutions of infinite difference functional schemes. In the second part of the paper we proof that solutions of finite difference systems approximate the solutions of aur differential problem. We give a complete convergence analysis for both types of difference methods. We adopt nonlinear estimates of the Perron type for given functions with respect to the functional variable. The proof of the stability is based on the comparison technique. Numerical examples are presented.

Designed to strengthen the deep (stabilizer) muscles which stabilize joints and ligaments, core stability exercises are important for the development of motor skills in athletes. In this research, we aimed to determine how a two-year program of core stability and functional exercises influenced the strength and speed of female football players. The tested athletes (n = 17) were members of Olimpia Szczecin MKS, a first division football club from Poland. Their mean age was 19.8 ±1.4 years, while the mean duration of sport experience was 6 years. We analyzed their running speed, as well as the maximal strength of eight major muscle groups: rectus abdominals, abdominal oblique, shoulder girdle, chest, upper limbs, quadriceps, biceps and gastronomies. The effects of training on motor speed and strength were measured twice, prior to each of the two seasons. The functional training resulted in significant changes in the strength of various muscle groups: quadriceps (Δ17.1 kg; p < 0.05), abdominal oblique muscle (Δ9.1 kg; p < 0.05), shoulder girdle (Δ3.6 kg; p < 0.05) and chest (Δ3.5 kg; p < 0.05). There was also a significant reduction in the time of the 30 meter sprint (p < 0.05) (Δ0.1 s; p < 0.05). In summary, functional training had a positive effect on the strength and running speed of the tested female footballers.
