Opis:
The article raises the issue of the relations between foreign direct investment and exports, quoting the example of Poland. Most of the research done so far raises the issue of substitutability and complementarity of these phenomena. In their research of macroeconomic nature, authors such as Stehn, Stępniak and Markusen (Stępniak, 2005; Markusen et al, 1996) have proved that definitely in most cases we are dealing with complementarity of FDI in relation to foreign trade of the countries. Using the most up-to-date research regarding foreign investment (Melitz, 2003; Krugman), in this article I am trying to present FDI as that element of economic life that stabilizes exports, taking into account today’s context related to the economic crisis. Referring already in the first part to the research done also in Poland by the National Bank of Poland, I have presented FDI as a factor maintaining Poland’s exports on a high level despite temporary capital outflow. The inflow of capital in the form of FDI to Poland is done in particular by companies from developed countries that are first of all looking for a location to move their own operations and reduce costs. Secondly, Poland is attractive as a location because of the availability of large markets. On the one hand, by operating in Poland, being an EU member, they get access to the EU internal market, while on the other they get close to the Russian market. Consequently, in their strategy for internationalizing their operations, investors making a capital involvement are planning to carry out their export operations dynamically.

Opis:
The article explores institutional obstacles to the growth of Polish interwar foreign trade. Looking at interwar analyses of private entities and governmental agencies engaged in the trade, it shows the endemic organisational and institutional problems in the sector, linking them with belated modernisation of Polish lands in the XIX century. Seen in this light, the significant governmental engagement in and control of foreign trade can be seen as another example of state intervention trying to cover areas of insu'cient modernisation. At the same time, the dificult situation of interwar Poland meant, that some governmental actions, while crucial from the point of view of monetary policy, were detrimental to the organisation of the foreign trade sector.

In this paper we focused attention on the business problems caused by changes in economic and political system of the country. The impact of these transformations is greater, if the company carries out operations abroad, because apart from the changes taking place in their own country, the company must take into account changes in the country co-operator environment. So the reasons for such changes can be internal and external, and the effects posed by these transformations can be for the company both positive and negative. The negative effects of the changes assumed define the term risk. In this article attention will be focused on those risks that may be most acute for import-export company.

Opis:
This study aims at exploring the effects of exchange rate policies on the foreign trade. In order to capture this effect, foreign exchange rates and terms of trade are analyzed both theoretically and within the context of their historical development. As well as theoretical relationship of these variables, their development and application especially after 1980 in Turkey are also studied. Throughout this article, causality relation and its direction between exchange rate and foreign trade has been studied. They are analyzed with Granger causality test and regression analysis based on 1980-2006 yearly data. It is seen that foreign exchange rates have undeniable however in the short term- effects on the terms of trade but moreover, in the long term the general durability and productivity is more vital.

Opis:
The paper aims at analysing the characteristics of the Polish-Scandinavian trade and at evaluating prospects of its further development in the context of the growing diversification of Polish exporting markets. The motivation behind this issue is rooted in the high dependence of the Polish economy on the German market. This brings about a threat to economic security through a specific technological dependence, which may result in a lot of challenges characteristic for the middle-income trap. This problem can be explained by the thesis of the blight of German proximity. The features of intensive trade relations, mostly in the motor vehicle industry and machinery (to some extent also in the electronic and electrical sector), require finding convenient locations for subsidiaries and further suppliers within corporate added-value chains. It should help exploiting current cost and effciency advantages of host economies and thus block the development of potential innovative alternatives induced by the too weak domestic support. For this reason, it is justified to intensify trade relations with other countries whose markets may be attractive for Polish exporters. They should also have competencies and advantages which are insufficient in the Polish economy. Hence, this transfer of knowledge through the trade cooperation (the concept of learning by exporting) may have an impact on the national innovation system. Choosing Scandinavian countries is coherent with the attempts to diversify the structure of exporting markets and is one of the critical dimensions of enhanced cooperation in the region of the Baltic Sea. The research on the trade relations covers the period 2001-2015 together with the original insight into the prospects for their further development. For this purpose, the trade data of the International Trade Centre were used. Their disaggregation (2-, 4- and 6-digit) within the Harmonised System made possible the identification of the most important sectors, product clusters and even specific commodities which may be Polish exporting hits. Another dimension of the analysis covers the technological intensity of the Polish exports and imports with Scandinavian countries, the structure of Polish trade balance and the intensity of the intra-industry trade (Grubel-Lloyd index) together with its subcategories (horizontal, vertical-low quality, vertical-high quality) in the chapters with the highest share in bilateral trade.

Opis:
The globalization of the world economy and the processes associated with the liberalization of trade, capital flows and technology produce certain effects for the development of the agricultural sector. This study is aimed at identifying determinants of the development of the pork market on a global scale. The analysis includ changes in pork production, foreign trade and the activities of the biggest leaders in the pork market. Literature studies, including reports AHDB and USDA were used in the research. The analysis shows that the increasing demand for food and the high cost of production is a global challenge for pork producers. Increases of industrialization and concentration of production have been found allowing the use of economies of scale. The activities of transnational corporations that invest capital is becoming increasing important where highest profits are achieved. The competition in international trade is growing, mainly from countries in North and South America which have a price advantage in exports.
