Można wymienić 4 rodzaje instytucji i programów: Amerykańskie Centrum Informacji (American Information Resource Center), Centrum Kultury i Informacji Amerykańskiej – American Corner, Ameryka w Twojej Bibliotece (America@yourlibrary©) oraz Centrum Zasobów Dydaktycznych Języka Angielskiego (Young Learners Resource Centers).
    The article presents a range of libraries run independently or in partnership by the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw and the U.S. Consulate General in Krakow. The libraries provide collections of fiction and popular science books, audiovisual collections, on-line databases and other materials that focus on the United States. The libraries also organize cultural and educational events featuring the heritage and culture of the United States. The libraries differ in their offer and target audience. Four different types of such facilities can be listed: the American Information Centers, American Corners, America@yourlibrary and Young Learners Resource Centers.

    Bibliografia zawiera 632 publikacje z zakresu organizacji i działalności współczesnych bibliotek zagranicznych oraz zawodu bibliotekarza za granicą. W ostatnich latach ukazuje się wiele wydawnictw podejmujących tą tematykę, a bibliografia może okazać się pomocna w poszukiwaniu informacji. Wpływ na zainteresowanie bibliotekarzy bibliotekami i bibliotekarstwem w innych krajach mają m.in. wyjazdy prywatne oraz służbowe, np. udział w konferencjach zagranicznych, stażach zawodowych czy wyjazdach szkoleniowych w ramach programu Erasmus. W przyszłości bibliografia będzie kontynuowana za kolejne lata wraz z ewentualnymi uzupełnieniami za lata 2000–2018.
    The bibliography contains 632 publications on the organization and operation of contemporary foreign libraries and the librarian's profession abroad. In recent years, there have been many publications devoted to this subject, and the bibliography may be helpful in the search for information. The interest of librarians in libraries and librarianship in other countries stems, among others, from private and business trips, e.g. participation in foreign conferences, professional internships and training placements under the Erasmus program. In the future, the bibliography will be extended to include the following years, with possible additions for the years 2000-2018.

    The paper offers an insight into the poor state of preservation of the Polish popular publications of the second half of the 19th century, based on systematic queries for the new edition of the Estreicher family Bibliografia Polska XIX stulecia (Polish Bibliography of the 19th century). The queries revealed that many of the editions in question are now completely lost, and quite often the only one or two survived copies can be found either abroad or in small local libraries/museums. The discussed examples include several popular books by the Roman Catholic bishop, Szymon Marcin Kozłowski; the commonly used primer for country children (Elementarz dla chłopców wiejskich for boys and Upominek dla dziewcząt wiejskich for girls); and the religious publications of Blessed Father Honorat OMFCap (Florentyn Wacław Koźmiński). Problems with the preservation of popular books from cultural borderlands are illustrated by the case of the Lutheran catechism published by Rev. Karol Kotschy for the local Silesian evangelical community in Ustroń. Finally, a few examples of the 19th-century Polish-American mass publications are discussed.

    Artykuł dotyczy biblioteki Zakładu (poprzednio: Katedry Filologii Węgierskiej UJ) Filologii Węgierskiej Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, jej historii i specjalistycznego księgozbioru. Wspomniano w nim o wielu unikatowych słownikach, encyklopediach i opracowaniach literaturoznawczych czy też językoznawczych, pochodzących głównie z darów. Podkreślono znaczenie elektronicznego katalogu, współtworzonego z centralnym katalogiem NUKAT, dzięki któremu informacja o zbiorach biblioteki szybciej i sprawniej dociera do czytelników. Nadmieniono publikacje pracowników macierzystej jednostki, jak również niezbędne źródła potrzebne do nauczania zarówno języka węgierskiego jak i estońskiego.
    The article concerns the library of the Hungarian Philology Section (previously the Chair in Hungarian Studies) at the Jagiellonian University, its history and its specialized collection. Some unique dictionaries, encyclopedias, and literary and linguistic works obtained as gifts are mentioned. Importance of the online catalogue, created in cooperation with the central catalogue NUKAT, is emphasized, as owing to this catalogue the information about the library’s collection is made accessible to readers faster and more efficiently. Publications of research workers of the Section and the essential sources used in teaching both Hungarian and Estonian are also mentioned.

    Artykuł przedstawia w skrócie historię nauczania języków orientalnych na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim i powstania biblioteki orientalistycznej oraz zakres tematyki księgozbioru. Autorka wyjaśnia na wybranych przykładach, niektóre problemy występujące przy opisie bibliograficznym publikacji w językach orientalnych, a wynikające z odmiennych systemów pisma czy różnic kulturowych, utrudniających jednoznaczne stosowanie zasad powszechnych w bibliotekarstwie europejskim.
    The article outlines the history of teaching oriental languages and organizing the oriental library at the Jagiellonian University, and presents the thematic scope of the library’s collection. On selected examples, the author explains some of the issues connected with bibliographic description of publications in oriental languages: these problems are due to different writing systems and to cultural differences which hinder using clear-cut rules commonly used in European librarianship.

    Celem niniejszego artykułu jest scharakteryzowanie działalności i księgozbioru Biblioteki Slawistyki, która jest sekcją Biblioteki Polonistycznej Wydziału Filologicznego Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego. Autorka przedstawia krótki zarys historii biblioteki, jej profil i kolekcje. Biblioteka oficjalnie istnieje od 1 lutego 2005, gromadzi publikacje z języka bułgarskiego, chorwackiego, serbskiego i literatury słoweńskiej, różne inne źródła dotyczące przekładoznawstwa, językoznawstwa, teorii literatury i historii krajów południowosłowiańskich. Zbiory biblioteki są dostępne dla pracowników, absolwentów studiów podyplomowych i doktorantów Filologii Słowiańskiej Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego. W ciągu kilku miesięcy biblioteka najprawdopodobniej przestanie działać jako oddzielna jednostka i stanie się częścią jednej wielkiej biblioteki wydziałowej.
    The purpose of this article is to characterize the activities and the collection of books of the Slavonic Studies Library, which is a division of the Polish Studies Library of the Philological Faculty of the Lodz University. The author presents a short outline of the library’s history and its profile and collections. The library has officially existed since February 1st, 2005, and has gathered Bulgarian, Croatian, Serbian, and Slovene literature and various other publications concerning translating studies, linguistics, theory of literature and history of the South Slavic countries. The library’s collections are accessible to the staff, graduate, postgraduate and doctoral students of the Slavonic Studies Department of the Lodz University. In several months, the library will most likely stop functioning as a separate unit and will become a part of one, large departmental library.

    Opis:
    The aim of the study is to present digitalization as a method of virtual consolidation and sharing of scattered collections or those remaining outside the country, which due to their nature are closely related to the circle of Polish culture. The analysis was based on the conclusions resulting from the project of digital consolidation of the collection of the Polish press (1801–1939) of the National Ossoliński Institute during the Lviv period of activity, numbering in September 1939 no fewer than 5000 titles, which, as a result of territorial changes (1945), ended up outside the country. As a result of the efforts undertaken in the years 1946–1947, nearly 1,300 press titles were donated to Wrocław in the form of a “gift”, more than half of which were distributed as a result of the transfer of some annuals or only a supplement, when the main journal was kept. As a result, a total of about 3000 titles remained in Lviv, including over 700 completely or partially unavailable in Poland, currently stored in the Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv. The study attempts to search for a method to increase the efficiency of creating digital collections of collections scattered or unavailable in Poland, the comprehensive disclosure of which is often possible only through digital archiving.

    Opis:
    The shape and content of the newly edited volumes of the Estreicher Family Polish Bibliography (namely vol. 19 and 20 of the new edition of the Polish Bibliography of the 19th century) were strongly affected by the accelerated pace of digitization of catalogues and collections of the Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian and Lithuanian libraries. Digital access to these re- sources allowed our team to locate many previously unknown Polish books, but the vast amount of data required a practical strategy of quick and effective searching. Moreover, the criteria of selection became an important methodological concern: both the specific characteristics of the newly surfaced materials and recent studies dealing with participation of Polish people in the cultural and academic life of the neighbouring nations show that the Polish heritage includes numerous books in Russian (and other languages as well), e.g. the publications of the Polish scientists who worked in the Russian Empire. Discovering and documenting such unobvious parts of Polish heritage become one of the fundamental tasks for the present-day researchers.
