Use of technology in different didactic approaches and methods. Diachronic review. – The present paper aims to present how different methods and approaches of teaching and learning foreign languages make use of new technologies. Every method is innovative and somehow also revolutionary. It’s quite easy to define and recognize which technologies are applied in modern methods. But when it comes to traditional methods it is not so evident. However according to research findings an appropriate application of new technologies can influence the effectiveness of the learning process.

Opis:
This article attempts to characterize three textbooks for learning the language of business and economics in terms of the presence of elements developing intercultural competences. Two textbooks for learning Italian and one for learning English were analyzed: (1) Italiano per economisti, (2) L'italiano in azienda, (3) Market Leader. Intermediate business English. The above-mentioned titles were published in the years 2002-2003, which allowed to eliminate possible differences resulting from the changing over time approach to the phenomenon of intercultural language education.                  The aim of the study is to identify the elements developing intercultural competences, their qualitative and quantitative characteristics, to discuss the differences in the approach in Italian and English-language texts and to indicate the possibility of using selected solutions in the new teaching materials. This is important as research shows that contacts with foreign cultures alone do not naturally lead to the development of intercultural competence (Sobkowiak, 2015: 64, Budzanowska-Drzewiecka and Motyl-Adamczyk, 2016: 56).                    The analysis covered non-verbal communication (gestures), stereotypes, proverbs and sayings, rules of linguistic politeness. From the glottodidactic point of view, the proposed types of exercises and the connection of (inter)cultural competences with other communicative competences will be analyzed.                    The main hypothesis verified during the analyzes assumes that the concept of intercultural language education, although it does not appear as a notion on the pages of textbooks, is an important component of the didactic process in materials for learning the business language, and the approach to interculturality may differ depending on the target culture and status of the foreign language taught (Italian vs English, modern lingua franca).

Before 1989, the main foreign language being taught in Polish schools was Russian, due to the socio-political ties with Moscow. Second and third tier foreign languages were French and Ger-man. In this paper, the authoresses try to analyze the cultural foundations for these phenomena.

Hearing impaired people have serious communication problems: both with (full) understanding of reality and with learning the first language. In order to counteract communication exclusion, they compensate for the deficiencies with an increased use of other senses. They learn the first language consciously with the help of a speech therapist, compensating for hearing dysfunctions, e.g. wide-angle vision. Karpińska-Szaj calls such learning inclusive; they can be successfully used in teaching foreign languages.

Opis:
This study discusses different approaches to alcohol in textbooks for teaching foreign languages (English, Spanish, Russian, Polish) on a beginner level (A1). In a broader context, the article deals with the cultural content and evaluation of foreign language course books. At the outset, the materials for foreign language teaching have been investigated with a frame of content analysis, using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitative analysis reveals that alcohol occurs in varying levels in the textbooks – from complete absence in some to 118 references in one textbook. Alcohol appears in Polish and Russian textbooks to a greater extent than in English and Spanish. Moreover, the paper suggests that the common feature of the books is a higher tolerance towards beer and wine than to spirits. In the second part of the study, based on the qualitative descriptions, three approaches towards presenting alcohol in the course books are discussed: tabooing, cautionary treatment and an affirmative approach. Additionally, this study discusses that in Slavic course books alcohol might also be introduced because of linguistic reasons (grammatical and phonetic).

The paper describes the research on teachers’ competencies with regard to two forms of learning, i.e. a full-time form of study and blended learning. The research was also tasked to document a difference in the evaluation of these partial competencies in the full-time form and in the blended learning form. This paper deals with the research on the competence assessment of English teachers at the School of Business Administration in Karvina among students in both forms of studies. The introduction outlines the issue of competencies as a result of political, social, and economic changes affecting education in the 21st century. Education is given to deeper relations, in particular with regard to the growing meritocratic aspect. The next part of the paper provides a selection in the list of the most important outcomes of a conceptual nature of key competencies and these are followed by the terminology scope of teachers’ competences. The aim of the research is the analysis of data focused on teachers’ competencies affecting the assessment of the quality of teaching foreign languages. Competencies examined were the readiness of teachers to teach and the clarity of their interpretation, erudition, communicability and suitability of transmitting information, and the flexibility of the individual approach to students and their inspiration.

The article presents the analysis of distant technologies that are utilized by the world methodological society: a set of distance technologies (desktop videoconferencing, e-mail, voicemail, online chat, web-based resources, e-learning platforms), synchronous/asynchronous technologies, m-learning/e-learning technologies. These technologies were analysed from scientific positions concerning their typology, essential characteristics, and linguistic and methodological potential. The authors of the article also provide distance technologies that can be used when teaching Russian language as foreign for medical purposes: synchronous technologies, professional websites, e-learning platforms, e-mails, mobile applications. The verification of distant technologies’ usage is conducted experimentally. The obtained results show that distance learning is useful and should be used in teaching foreign languages for other levels and professional purposes. Not only does the success of distance educational courses depend on the distance technologies that are provided by a teacher, but also we should rely on the consistent and integrated efforts of students, faculty, facilitators, support staff, and administrators.

The author presents reports on two studies that explored how this way of teaching is applied in Polish junior secondary education. The results of the studies confirm the effectiveness of project work in teaching English as a foreign language and underline the need for creating better school conditions to use this valuable technique. The author of the paper hopes that the text will encourage teachers to treat this technique as a regular class activity, not only as an interesting didactic experiment

Adapting foreign language teaching to the requirements of studentswith special educational needs requires prior diagnosis of the developmental potential of the pupils concerned. Because of the educational and rehabilitative character of foreign language learning in studentswith language and speech deficiencies, the diagnosis addresses the possibilities of using foreign language learning in developing general and linguistic competencies in both languages (native and foreign). The article presents the aims of diagnosing linguistic communicative competencies in the context of foreign language teaching. The differences between speech diagnosis and diagnosis performed for the needs of foreign language teaching are discussed, based on cases of pupils with deficiencies in their native language (Polish). The evaluation of the students’ competencies involved reformulation as an instrument of linguistic diagnosis; learning strategies were also considered in the assessment.
