The article presents examples of the use of portable bridge structures in civil engineering. Due to the possibility of combining elements of these structures into a variety of complex spatial arrangements, they could be widely used. Various technologies and principles of organisation of the construction of engineering structures of pre-fabricated bridges are presented. The presented solutions are both technologies known and used since the beginning of the history of panel bridges, as well as new technologies, developed on the basis of practical experience of engineers. The article presents selected scientific principles of work organisation, influencing the maintenance of a high rate of implementation of the construction project. The article also analyses the influence of location conditions, different from typical standard assembly stations, on the technology and organization of construction.

Opis:
The article deals with the maneuverability of three-link road trains with various layout schemes. If a train has more than three links, difficulties arise in that the study of the movement of such a multi-link vehicle is significantly complicated due to the need to take into account the influence of a significant number of factors on the nature of the movement of all links. The interaction of neighboring units in the movement of a train is eventually distributed to the entire vehicle and causes certain deviations of the components of the train (modules) from the direction of movement specified by the driving link (tractor). Considering that a road train as a motor vehicle is a means of increased danger, when solving problems about the possibility of operating three- and multi-link road trains, it is one of the first to take steps towards theoretical studies of their maneuverability, the results of which will be the basis for answering many technical, organizational, and legal questions. Analysis of the calculation results showed that in the established circular path with the selected gear ratios of the control drives, none of the road trains met the requirements of DIRECTIVE 2002/7 / EC. From this, it follows that for three-link road trains, a fundamentally different control drive is needed, which can be a double control drive.

Opis:
In this paper, a new proof of ambiguity of the formula describing the aliasing and folding effects in spectra of sampled signals is presented. It uses the model of non-ideal sampling operation published by Vetterli et al. Here, their model is modified and its black-box equivalent form is achieved. It is shown that this modified model delivers the same output sequences but of different spectral properties. Finally, a remark on two possible understandings of the operation of non-ideal sampling is enclosed as well as fundamental errors that are made in perception and description of sampled signals are considered.

Proteins with a non-trivial topological structure are currently well recognized, while a knotted protein chain represents a new motif in protein three dimensional folds. Recent comprehensive analysis of the Protein Data Base shows that knotted proteins represent 1.5% of known protein structures. Determination of a free energy landscape of knotted proteins, and its understanding provides a serious challenge for both experimentalists and theoreticians. Moreover the role of a knot for biological activity of protein still remains elusive. In this work we study the smallest knotted proteins ( PDB code 2efv) to understand/investigate their free energy landscape, by means of extensive molecular dynamics simulations. We explore the dependence of the thermodynamics, kinetics and protein folding pathways on the native-likes contact maps and on the length of the chain. We analyze two sets of native-like contacts , which differ by a number of long range interactions, and we consider the 2efv protein with two different lengths of its C-terminus end. We identify the subset of native contacts sufficient to explore the entire free energy landscape. Then, we analyze the influence of the remaining set of native contacts – we show that the set of additional contacts may enhance folding kinetics, and that it has an influence on folding pathways.

The axial crumpling of frusta in the axisymmetric "concertina" mode is examined. A new theoretical model is developed in which the inward folding in both cylinders and frusta is addressed. The results were compared with previous relevant models as well as experimental findings. The flexibility of the model was substantiated by its capability of describing and estimating the inward folding in frusta in general as well as in cylinders as a special case. A declining trend of the eccentricity dependence with the D/t ratio was found in contrast with a previous theory which suggests total independency. ABAQUS 14-2 finite element software was employed to simulate the thin tube as a 3-D thin shell part. Numerical simulations of the process were found to, firstly, underestimate the theoretical values of inward folding in general, secondly anticipate more underestimations as the tubes become thinner and/or have larger apex angle, and finally anticipate as low as 300 apical angle frusta to revert its mode of deformation to global inversion.

The paper presents two new technologies for the construction of single-span road bridges using the DMS-65 folding bridge structure. These technologies have been successfully applied in practice and resulted in savings in bridge construction time and cost. In this paper, the problem of aliasing and folding effects in spectrum of sampled signals in view of Information Theory is discussed. To this end, the information content of deterministic continuous time signals, which are continuous functions, is formulated first. Then, this notion is extended to the sampled versions of these signals. In connection with it, new signal objects that are partly functions but partly not are introduced. It is shown that they allow to interpret correctly what the Whittaker–Shannon reconstruction formula in fact does. With help of this tool, the spectrum of the sampled signal is correctly calculated. The result achieved demonstrates that no aliasing and folding effects occur in the latter. Finally, it is shown that a Banach–Tarski-like paradox can be observed on the occasion of signal sampling.

A new model of ideal signal sampling operation is developed in this paper. This model does not use the Dirac comb in an analytical description of sampled signals in the continuous time domain. Instead, it utilizes functions of a continuous time variable, which are introduced in this paper: a basic Kronecker time function and a Kronecker comb (that exploits the first of them). But, a basic principle behind this model remains the same; that is it also a multiplier which multiplies a signal of a continuous time by a comb. Using a concept of a signal object (or utilizing equivalent arguments) presented elsewhere, it has been possible to find a correct expression describing the spectrum of a sampled signal so modelled. Moreover, the analysis of this expression showed that aliases and folding effects cannot occur in the sampled signal spectrum, provided that the signal sampling is performed ideally.

In this paper, it has been shown that the spectrum aliasing and folding effects occur only in the case of non-ideal signal sampling. When the duration of the signal sampling is equal to zero, these effects do not occur at all. In other words, the absolutely necessary condition for their occurrence is just a nonzero value of this time. Periodicity of the sampling process plays a secondary role.

Od lat 90. XX wieku w Chinach trwa złoty okres rodzimego science fiction, głównie dzięki temu, że stało się ono dla pisarzy środkiem do wyrażenia wszystkiego, czego nie była w stanie wyrazić literatura głównego nurtu, oraz komentowania nieustannie zmieniającej się teraźniejszości. W artykule zostaje przeanalizowany „Składający się Pekin” — opowiadanie przedstawicielki Nowego Pokolenia chińskiego science fiction, Hao Jingfang, które w 2016 r. zdobyło nagrodę Hugo. Wykreowany przy użyciu metod charakterystycznych dla science fiction oraz metaforyce przestrzeni obraz Pekinu z przyszłości jest refleksją nad problemami współczesności, takimi jak nieprzekraczalność barier społecznych, spetryfikowany system klasowo-warstwowy czy też rozwój technologiczny, który czyni ludzi zbędnymi. Opowiadanie może być odczytane jako utopijna przypowieść science fiction, która dzięki rozbudowanej metaforze rozwarstwionego społeczeństwa, uwięzionego w stanie nieustannej zmiany i bezosobowym mieście-molochu, ostrzega przed możliwą ponurą przyszłością, ale przede wszystkim wyraża zagubienie i niepewność współczesnego człowieka w obliczu ciągle zmieniającej się postmodernistycznej rzeczywistości i nowoczesnej technologii.
The “golden age” of science fiction has lasted since the 90s, mostly due to the fact that science fiction has become a means for writers to express everything what the so-called pure literature was unable to express, and to comment on the ever-changing present reality. In this article, a short novella written by an author representing New Generation of Chinese science fiction Hao Jingfang — “Folding Beijing” — which won the Hugo prize in 2016, is analyzed. Created with the use of methods typical for science fiction, as well as space-metaphor, the vision of a future Beijing becomes a commentary on modern-day problems such as the impassable social barriers, the petrificated social class structure, or the technological development, which renders people useless. The novella may be understood as a utopian science fiction parable, which thanks to the elaborate metaphor of the class-ridden society trapped both in the state of never-ending change and a faceless monstrous metropolis, warns about the possibility of a grim future, but above all else expresses anxieties and insecurities of a modern human facing the ever-changing postmodern reality and advanced technology.

The classification of simple singularities in the post-buckling analysis of truss structures is well-known for elastic stability. To focus on multiple singularities including a hilltop bifurcation point (h-BP) and its bifurcation paths, we reviewed the multiple bifurcation analysis of multi-folding microstructure (MFM) models with periodic symmetry. Because the Jacobian at the h-BP of the MFM involves multiple 0-eigenvalues, it is challenging to analyse the bifurcation paths from the h-BP accurately. In this study, we investigated the multiple folding mechanism by analysing the neighbourhood of the h-BP and the symmetric subgroups of the geometric system in the two-dimensional plane and three-dimensional core of the MFM. We demonstrated that through the classification of multiple h-BP and bifurcation paths, it is possible to determine the unknown bifurcation equilibrium paths following h-BP, based on the Jacobian stability and the mechanism of symmetric subgroups in group theory containing the relationships between the primary path and the known bifurcation path(s) in the MFM system with periodic symmetry.

This work aims to characterize the quality of the weld joint by an operation of shaping (folding), it aims to study the rate of elastic return in this weld joint after a folding operation. In this context, the elastic return for the folding process has been modeled using experimental tests under optimal welding conditions.

The highest efficiency in the usage of nuclear energy resources can be implemented in fast breeder reactors of generation IV. It is achieved thanks to the ability of consuming minor actinides (MAs) in energy production. One of the options to use this benefit is full recycling of MAs to close the nuclear fuel cycle. Monte Carlo burn up (MCB), an integrated burn-up calculation code, deals with the complexity of the burn-up process which is applied to the European Lead-cooled Fast Reactor (ELFR). MCB uses continuous energy representation of cross section and spatial effects of full core reactor model; however, it automatically calculates nuclide production in all possible reactions or decay channels. Multi-recycling of MAs can cause an intensified build-up of curium, berkelium and californium. Some of their isotopes are strong neutron emitters from spontaneous fission, which hinders fuel recycling. The implementation of a novel methodology for trajectory period folding allows us to trace the life cycle of crucial MAs from the beginning of the reactor life towards the state of adiabatic equilibrium. The result of the analysis performed is presented, showing the sources of strong contribution to the neutron production rate. The parametric sensitivity analysis method for selected nuclide reactions is applied, revealing sensitivity of transmutation chains for the production of neutron emitter isotopes.

The history of a fan – an object that could be seen as exquisite (or even superfluous) – is extremely rich and interesting from the point of view of customs, history and art history. It is amazing how this small object of everyday use, currently considered to be women’s fashion utensils, has had multiple and important functions for millennia. Since the earliest times, fans have been used for cooling, stripping insects, sun protection or setting fire. In ancient Egypt the fans were used by pharaohs and priests as attributes of power and grandeur. Until the 1950s, two fans (flabella) were used in the Western Church as an honorary distinction in processions during which the Pope was carried on shoulders on the gestatorial chair (sedia gestatoria). In the liturgy of the Eastern Church the use of fans (ripidia) has survived to our times, although their significance has already become entirely symbolic. Battle fans come from the Far East, where they served primarily as a sign of officer rank, but also as a weapon. They were used from the 6th to the 16th century, when they reached the peak of popularity. The fans arrived in Europe along with expeditions to the Far East. The golden times of fans came in the 17th and 18th centuries. They ruled in upper-class salons and royal courts throughout Europe. They have become a symbol of prosperity, refinement and coquetry regardless of the time of year. The fan has become the attribute of a lady. Folding fans have gained the most popularity. The fans were made of wood, precious metals, ivory, tortoiseshell, leather, parchment, silk, linen, paper, feathers, and also leaves. They were carved, painted, embroidered and decorated with jewels. They took different forms depending on the application and needs. They were small and large, straight, folded, pleated, round, semicircular, in the shape of a leaf or a streamer, on a long or short handle.
Historia wachlarza, wydawałoby się przedmiotu zbytkownego (a nawet zbędnego), jest niezwykle bogata i ciekawa z punktu widzenia obyczajów, historii i historii sztuki. To zdumiewające, jak ta niewielka rzecz codziennego użytku, współcześnie zaliczana do utensyliów mody kobiecej, przez tysiąclecia pełniła wielorakie i ważne funkcje. Od najdawniejszych czasów wachlarze były używane do ochłody, odpędzania owadów, ochrony przed słońcem czy do rozniecania ognia. W starożytnym Egipcie wachlarze paradne używane były przez faraonów i kapłanów jako atrybuty władzy i dostojeństwa. Do lat 50. XX wieku w Kościele Zachodnim były używane dwa wachlarze (flabella) jako wyróżnienie honorowe w procesjach, podczas których niesiono papieża na sedia gestatoria. W liturgii Kościoła Wschodniego do naszych czasów przetrwało używanie wachlarzy (ripidia), chociaż ich znaczenie stało się już zupełnie symboliczne. Znane są także wachlarze bojowe. Wywodzą się z Dalekiego Wschodu, gdzie służyły przede wszystkim jako oznaka rangi oficerskiej, ale także jako broń. Używane były od VI do XVI wieku, kiedy to osiągnęły szczyt popularności. Wachlarze do Europy przybyły wraz z wyprawami na Daleki Wschód. W XVII i XVIII wieku nastały złote czasy wachlarzy. Królowały w salonach wyższych sfer i na dworach królewskich całej Europy. Były symbolem dostatku, wykwintności i kokieterii bez względu na porę roku. Wachlarz stał się atrybutem damy. Największą popularność zyskały wachlarze składane. Wachlarze wykonywane były z drewna, metali szlachetnych, kości słoniowej, szylkretu, skóry, pergaminu, jedwabiu, płótna, papieru, piór, także z liści; były rzeźbione, malowane, haftowane i ozdabiane klejnotami. Przybierały różne formy w zależności od zastosowania i potrzeb, były małe i duże, proste, składane, plisowane, okrągłe, półkoliste, w kształcie liścia, chorągiewki, na długim lub krótkim uchwycie.
