This review presents the usage of adhesives and binders for agglomeration of particle materials, including waste, in order to obtain strong bodies. The binding materials were classified into three categories: inorganic binders, organic binders, and compound binders. Many examples of the agglomeration effect of binders in view of their adhesive and thickening reveal that they have a significant impact on the qualities and use of waste lumps. Binders for fine waste granulation, briquetting, and pelletizing were demonstrated in-depth. In all cases, the mechanical strength of the agglomerates produced was increased. It was observed that the majority of the additives may be easily obtained from waste resources, posing a minimal environmental risk.

From the beginning of the deterministic chaos research, the unpredictability has been its central theme. Interesting questions arise here: What are the consequences of chaos for the fine tuned processes? Are there fine tuning systems in reality? We investigate the possibility of defining a fine tuning parameter in terms of the Lyapunov principal exponent. We will critically evaluate the existing formulation of Hetesi and Vegh. We argue that such a quantification of a fine tuning parameter may be useful in the context of the debate between indifference and fine tuning principles for the Universe. We also propose how to define fine tuning evolutional paths of the Universe by using concepts of dynamical systems, namely the method of separatrices in the phase space.

Aim: The aim of the study was to review two techniques that can be used to verify focal lesions in the breasts: fine-needle aspiration biopsy and core-needle biopsy. Material and methods: Fifty-five articles (original papers and reviews), half of them published within the past 5 years, were included in the analysis. The authors also took their own experience into account. Results: Pre-operative assessment of focal lesions in the breasts is crucial in the planning of further therapeutic management. The role of fine-needle aspiration biopsy has been reduced lately due to its low sensitivity and specificity as well as a high rate of non-diagnostic, suspicious and false negative results. This method does not enable one to differentiate between in situ and invasive disease. Currently, fine-needle biopsy is recommended for cystic lesions, suspected of being recurrences in the chest wall, and lymph node metastases. Core-needle biopsy is the basic diagnostic method of breast lesions. According to the recommendations of the Polish Ultrasound Society and American College of Radiology, BIRADS 4 and 5 lesions should be evaluated histopathologically. Core-needle biopsy makes it possible to establish a final diagnosis more frequently than fine-needle biopsy, both in the case of benign and malignant lesions. It delivers more information about the nature of a tumor (mutation of HER-2, estrogen and progesterone receptors and Ki-67 index). Its limitations include: underestimation of invasion and failure to recognize the components of ductal carcinoma in situ in papillary and atypical lesions. Single fine-needle aspiration biopsy is inexpensive, but when considering the cost of further diagnosis due to non-diagnostic, suspicious and atypical results, this method generates high additional costs. Conclusions: Microscopic verification of focal breast lesions is crucial for further therapeutic decisions. It has been proven that histopathological verification is more accurate and has more advantages than cytological assessment.
Cel pracy: Celem pracy było przedstawienie dwóch technik weryfikacji zmian ogniskowych w piersiach: biopsji aspiracyjnej celowanej cienkoigłowej i biopsji gruboigłowej. Materiał i metody: Analizie poddano 55 artykułów (prac oryginalnych i przeglądowych), z których prawie połowa została opublikowana w ciągu ostatnich 5 lat. Autorzy uwzględnili również własne doświadczenia. Wyniki: Przedoperacyjna ocena zmian ogniskowych w piersiach jest niezbędna w planowaniu postępowania terapeutycznego. W ostatnim czasie rola biopsji aspiracyjnej cienkoigłowej celowanej uległa zmniejszeniu ze względu na niską czułość i swoistość, jak również wysoki odsetek wyników niediagnostycznych, podejrzanych i fałszywie ujemnych. Metoda ta nie pozwala na różnicowanie pomiędzy nowotworem in situ a inwazyjnym. Obecnie biopsja cienkoigłowa jest rekomendowana w przypadku zmian płynowych, podejrzanych o wznowę w ścianie klatki piersiowej oraz przerzutów do węzłów chłonnych. Biopsja gruboigłowa jest podstawową metodą diagnostyczną zmian w piersiach. Zgodnie z zaleceniami Polskiego Towarzystwa Ultrasonograficznego i American College of Radiology zmiany kategorii 4 i 5 według klasyfikacji BIRADS powinny zostać poddane weryfikacji histopatologicznej. Biopsja gruboigłowa pozwala na postawienie ostatecznej diagnozy częściej niż biopsja cienkoigłowa zarówno w przypadku zmian łagodnych, jak i złośliwych; dostarcza więcej informacji o charakterze guza (obecność mutacji HER-2, receptorów progesteronowych i estrogenowych oraz wskaźnika Ki-67). Do jej ograniczeń zalicza się niedoszacowanie inwazji oraz nierozpoznawanie komponentów raka przewodowego in situ w zmianach brodawkowatych i atypowych. Cena pojedynczej biopsji aspiracyjnej celowanej cienkoigłowej jest niewielka, jednak po uwzględnieniu kosztów dalszej diagnostyki wyników niediagnostycznych, podejrzanych i atypowych metoda ta generuje wysokie koszty dodatkowe. Wnioski: Weryfikacja mikroskopowa zmian ogniskowych w piersiach jest kluczowa w podejmowaniu dalszych decyzji terapeutycznych. Udowodniono, że weryfikacja histopatologiczna jest dokładniejsza i ma więcej zalet niż ocena cytologiczna. Wyraźnie zauważalne jest, że ustawodawca dla podniesienia efektywności tworzonych przez siebie regulacji prawnych z zakresu prawa administracyjnego sięga po sankcje, mające postać administracyjnych kar pieniężnych. Nakładane są one w razie niewykonania lub nienależytego wykonania obowiązków wynikających z konkretnego przepisu prawnego przez ich adresata. Mając jednak na uwadze to, że w procedurze ich nakładania nie są stosowane środki ochrony, w przeciwieństwie do kar wymierzanych w prawie karnym, do możliwości nakładania kar pieniężnych powinno się podchodzić się z większą ostrożnością. Zwłaszcza że szczególnie wykorzystywany jest ich represyjne oddziaływanie.
It is clearly noticeable that the legislator, in order to increase the effectiveness of legal regulations in the field of administrative law created thereby, reaches for sanctions in the form of administrative fines. They shall be imposed in the event of non-performance or improper performance by the addressee of obligations under a specific legal provision. However, bearing in mind that there are no protective measures in the procedure for their imposition, unlike penalties under criminal law, the possibility of imposing fines should be treated with greater caution. Their repressive impact is particularly exploited.

Minirhizotron, a non-destructive technique is based on the application of transparent tubes, located in plant’s root zone. This method has been known since the beginning of 20th century and is used for plant root’s observations, especially in forest trees (Scots pine, Norway spruce, silver fir, birch), steppe grasses, vegetables and cereals. Minirhizotron technique is also applicable to pomological plants observations, mostly apples, but many others orchard species were observed with this method last years. The study of root growth dynamics in fruit plants using the non-destructive, minirhizotron method is conducted in the Pomological Orchard in Skierniewice. The objects of the observations are the roots of: apple trees cultivar. ‘Gold Milenium’, blackcurrant bushes cultivar ‘Tiben’ and sweet cherry cultivar ‘Vanda’. The observations were carried out monthly over a period of from March to November.

Raw diatomite (RD) and diatomite concentrate (DC) were used for the adsorption of cationic Red X-GRL from aqueous solutions. Mono-factor experiments were carried out to investigate the effects of the operation factor, and adsorption kinetics, isotherms, thermodynamics and mechanisms were explored. Similar trend for X-GRL adsorption onto RD and DC was observed. The adsorption capacity of dyes increased slightly with temperature, and the neutral pH was the optimum level. The adsorption processes occurred in accordance with the pseudo second-order model and were well fitted by the Langmuir isotherm model. The main driving forces of the physical adsorption on the diatomite were electrostatic attraction and van der Waals force. The RD could uptake more X-GRL than DC due to its higher content of fine particle and therefore, due to higher surface area available for adsorption. Raw diatomite as a cheap absorbent for X-GRL removal can be suggested as a promising supplement to activated carbon.

Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is considered as the gold-standard diagnostic test in the diagnostics of thyroid nodules. It is a cost-effective procedure that provides specific diagnosis rapidly with minimal complications. It plays an important role in the determination of treatment - patients with suspected malignancy diagnosis can be subjected to surgery. On the other hand, it can decrease the rate of unnecessary surgeries. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the correlation, accuracy of fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) in the diagnostics of thyroid lesions with the final histopathologic diagnosis based on the surgical specimens. Materials and Methods: In our study we performed a retrospective analysis of a case series of patients who had been admitted to the Department of Endocrine, General and Oncological Surgery of the Hospital of M. Kopernik in Łodź (Poland) between May 2016 and December 2017 and underwent FNAC with subsequent surgery. Cytological diagnosis was classified into six Bethesda categories. Results: On cytological examination, 1070/1262 cases were reported as benign, 49 as malignant and 143 as suspicious. On histopathological examination, 956/1070 cases were confirmed as benign but there were 114 discordant cases. Among the other cases histopathology diagnosis confirmed malignancy in 45/49 cases and 128/143 suspicious cases. The sensitivity and specificity were 60,28% and 98,05% respectively. False positive rate was 1.95% and false negative rate was 39.72%. The positive predictive value was 90.1% and negative predictive value was 89.35%. Accuracy of FNA in differentiating benign from malignant thyroid lesions was 89.46%.

This study consisted of 2 experiments. Experiment 1 examined the effects of hand posture, arm posture and body posture on hand error, while experiment 2 examined the effects of hand posture, breathing type and body posture on hand error. This study showed that more hand errors occurred in the nondominant hand, extended arm, normal breathing and standing compared with errors in the dominant hand, flexed arm, inspire–hold and sitting, respectively. This study advised people to use their dominant hand, flex their arm, inspire and hold the breath and support their body while performing fine manipulation tasks. Finally, hand error varied dramatically across the participants, indicating the need to screen individuals for fine manual manipulation tasks.

The literature of the Romantics, in the first part of the 19th century, is steeped in religious doubt. Moreover, the sacred was a taboo yet unavoidable subject especially in novels and short stories that were considered at the time profane genres. Romantic writers exploited certain covert strategies in order to speak of the unspeak-able and touch the untouchable. They resort, for instance, to their artistic culture with its centuries of pictorial tradition that render religious figures and events more familiar and accessible. Musset’s Le Tableau d’église, Vigny’s Daphné, and Gauthier’s La Toison d’or, all bear witness to a striking (meeting) harmony between iconoclastic and/or cavalier characters and sacred works of art that focus on the Passion. All three writers interweave aesthetic contemplation with mystical communion, thus revealing a new sense of the sacred that is often ambiguous, nay, subversive. And since sacred art is not in itself sacred, it allows writers to come very close to sacrilege in order to examine the fine line between the profane and the sacred.

Stirred pulp-mixing is performed before coal flotation. In this study, a two-stage stirred pulpmixing tank was designed based on the single-stirred process to intensify the mixing effect of pulp and flotation reagents. A tank has a pitched-impeller opening-type turbine. Stirred pulp-mixing and flotation experiments were conducted on a sample of anthracite fine coal (-0.5mm) from the Xuehu Coal Preparation Plant in Henan Province, China. The results of the two-stage stirred pulp-mixing were compared with those of a single-stage stirred pulp-mixing in terms of flotation performance. Compared with the single-stage stirred pulp-mixing, two mixing areas and double-layer impeller were able to strengthen the energy input to the stirred system, thereby improving the mixing efficiency of flotation reagents and coal particles in the pulp. The two-stage stirred pulp-mixing significantly increased the flotation feed rate of the cyclone-static micro-bubble flotation column and concentrate yield, enhanced the combustible matter recovery effect of coarse particles at a suitable flotation feed rate, and ensured the recovery effect of fine particles at high flotation feed rate.

In the late 1990s, Stephan G. Schmid published a chronological typology of Nabataean Painted Fineware (NPFW) that was widely accepted by scholars of Nabataea and Roman Arabia. Tali Erickson-Gini has since raised concerns about parts of his NPFW typology, specifically related to two decoration types dating to the end of the 1st century and the beginning of the 2nd century CE (Dekorphases 3b and 3c). This article is a response to Erickson-Gini’s critique, published in this volume. We find that there is sufficient evidence to broadly validate Schmid’s proposed dating for the beginning of production of Dekorphases 3b and 3c to the late 1st century and early 2nd century CE, respectively.

This article is about audio description of works of art. The term audio description is defined at the beginning of the text, next there is a description of how AD began in the United States and in Poland. After that, the types of AD in works of art and the rules of its creating are presented. The following paragraphs are about translating paintings through the senses, that is the hearing (ekphrasis, soundpainting), the touch (miniature models, typhlographies, touch tours) the smell or the taste (specially prepared fragrance or taste composition). The article finishes with the author looking at AD in plastic arts in Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź and the Museum of the City of Łódź.

Niniejsza praca jest poświęcona pewnym zagadnieniom związanym z przesiewaniem drobno- i bardzo drobnouziarnionych materiałów sypkich. Jest to najtrudniejszy proces przesiewania (obok odsiewania materiałów wilgotnych), który w praktyce przemysłowej nie doczekał się jednoznacznego rozwiązania. O ile w przemyśle światowym rozpowszechnione są typowe przesiewacze jednopłaszczyznowe (zwane niezbyt precyzyjnie przesiewaczami wibracyjnymi) oraz znane są właściwości procesowe tych maszyn, o tyle do przesiewania drobnoziarnowego stosuje sie różne maszyny przesiewające, które nie zawsze sprawdzają się w warunkach przemysłowych. Artykuł niniejszy jest dyskusyjny, stanowi on przyczynek do nieco innego niż dotychczas, spojrzenia na proces przesiewania. Zawiera ponadto pewne uwagi praktyczne, spełnienie których jest ważne dla procesu przesiewania drobnoziarnowego. Druga część artykułu poświęcona jest maszynom przesiewającym opracowanym przez autora. Są to rozwiązania stworzone głównie z myślą o odsiewaniu materiałów drobnych. W tej części omówiono ważność prawidłowego zasilania przesiewaczy nadawą (materiałem przeznaczonym do przesiewania). Szczególną uwagę zwraca się również na napędy (głównie rotacyjne - wały niewyważone), od których w istotnym stopniu zależny jest efekt procesowy.
This paper is dedicated to some problems of screening of fine- and very fine-grained loose materials. This is the most difficult screening process (beside screening off wet materials), which in industrial practice has not been solved yet. As far as in the world industry typical single-plane screens are very popular (they are named, not very precisely, the vibrating screens) with known process properties, for screening of fine-grained material various screens are used which prove not always the most efficient in industrial conditions. The present paper is debatable, and can be treated as a contribution to a slightly different approach to screening than that represented so far. Additionally, it presents some practical recommendations which are important for fine screening process. Second part of the paper is dedicated to screening machines developed by the author. These are design solutions proposed mainly for screening of fine-grained materials. In this section the importance of correct feed supply to the screen is discussed. Special attention is given to drives - mainly rotational (unbalanced shafts), on which the process efficiency depends greatly.

This paper investigates breakage of calcite powder (d50 = 25.23 μm) to fine particle sizes using an ultrasonic generator (400 W, 24 kHz). The present study focuses on comminution of calcite powder in water media by ultrasonic treatment and the effect of some operational parameters such as treatment time (5–30 min), ultrasonic power (30-100% as amplitude), solid ratio (5-30% w/w), probe positions (0.5-2 cm) and cycle on the product size. Experimental results were evaluated on the basis of average particle size (d50). Sonication of calcite produced a drastic particle-size reduction (d50=12.89 μm) under optimal conditions.

The development of mining and processing industries is accompanied by the formation of fine-grained waste materials that must undergo the treatment. Sometimes, grinding materials is a prerequisite for further processing. The issues of coal dust and fine coal granulation conducted to obtain homogeneous and persistent pieces for application in various branches of industry were presented. The article describes the binders and additives were applied in order to change the properties of the granules. The key factors affecting the process of fine-grained coal granulation is discussed. Granulated coal dust is most useful as an alternative fuel for combustion in industrial and household heating systems. However, carbon fuel requires a systematic control of the mechanical strength and resistance to external factors.

The article analyses the definition of “an item of fine art” and its practical application in the spectrum of insurance relationships. The definition is considered from a general point of view as well as from the legal perspective. It is also collated with synonymous concepts (i.e. antiquity, cultural property, exhibits) and briefly examined in different legal contexts (fiscal, administrative, international, civil). This review leads to a conclusion that it is impossible to find a satisfactory and generally applicable definition of “an item of fine art,” and that therefore searching for such a definition is a waste of time. On the other hand, attempts to define “an item of fine art” shed light on its classic features, which may be useful in certain cases.The article draws attention to the indirect impact of certain reflections and observations regarding “fine art,” notably their effect on the interpretation of the concept of “items of fine art” in civil law and civil contracts. It also shows that an accurate definition may be essential in an insurance relationship, since the subject of insurance protection has to be clearly defined. These practical implications apply particularly to situations when an item of fine art is not the sole object of insurance protection and when it is an element of an insured collection.The article considers not only the applicable legislation but also the general terms and conditions used by insurance companies.

This study aimed to investigate controlled fermentation of cocoa beans with selected yeasts as starter cultures via integrating microbiological, biochemical, and chromatographic analyses. The steps involved in the yeast starter culture test were of the following order: 1) counting, isolation, purification, and biochemical identification of yeasts, 2) selection of ethanol-producing yeasts, 3) selection of thermotolerant yeasts, and 4) evaluation of physicochemical parameters of the selected yeasts in controlled fermentation of cocoa (F1 - Saccharomyces ssp. and Hanseniaspora ssp. and F2 - spontaneous fermentation - control). A total of 32 yeasts were isolated from three sampling points (M1, M2, and M3), which comprised 50% Candida ssp., 9.4% Rhodotorula ssp., 18.8% Saccharomyces ssp., and 18.8% Hanseniaspora ssp. The yeasts identified as Saccharomyces ssp. (n = 6) were subjected to the ethanol production test. Saccharomyces spp. CLV09 showed the highest concentration of ethanol in the simulated cocoa medium (3.5% v/v). Hanseniaspora spp. CVL20 and CVL19 strains showed the highest thermotolerance at 42°C after 72 h of growth. The starter cultures with Saccharomyces ssp. and Hanseniaspora ssp. showed a similar growth rate of the mesophilic aerobic population in both F1 and F2. Fermentation of the starter culture showed a higher production of organic acids than spontaneous fermentation (F2). Thus, Saccharomyces ssp. and Hanseniaspora ssp. can be used as a starter culture in cocoa fermentation.

W artykule przedstawione zostały zagadnienia dotyczące drobnoziarnistych odpadów z procesu wzbogacania węgla kamiennego. Przedstawiono przykładowe wyniki badań drobnoziarnistych odpadów z trzech stawów osadowych mułów węgla energetycznego i jednego osadnika odpadów flotacyjnych węgla koksowego oraz ze zbiornika wodnego. Zaprezentowane wyniki badań pozwoliły na ocenę sposobu wykorzystania tych odpadów. W artykule przedstawiono również cel i założenia projektu rozwojowego pt.: "Identyfikacja potencjału energetycznego depozytów mułów węglowych w bilansie paliwowym kraju oraz strategia rozwoju technologicznego w zakresie ich wykorzystania" realizowanego przez Instytut Mechanizacji Budownictwa i Górnictwa Skalnego Oddział zamiejscowy :Centrum Gospodarki Odpadami" w Katowicach wraz z Katedrą Przeróbki Kopalin i Utylizacji Odpadów Politechniki Śląskiej.
In the article the issues related to fine tailings produced as a result of hard coal beneficiation process are presented. The amount of waste produced as a result of coal extraction, features of fine tailings and mineralogical-petrographic composition are given. Possible methods of fine tailings usage are also presented. Results of research of fine tailings from three coal slurry impoundments of energetic coal, one flotation tailings pond of cocking coal and one water pond are shown. Presented results allow to assess the possibility of tailings usage. It was demonstrated that coal slurries from energetic coal can be used as a fuel for fluidized bed combustion. The results of research show that it is possible to reprocess flotation tailings stored for a long time in a pond using again flotation methods. It is necessary however to choose the right froth agent and its proper concentration in a process. It was also demonstrated that tailings deposited in a water pond have properties that allow their energetic usage. The purpose and assumptions of a new development project "Identification of energetic potential of coal slurries deposits in national fuel balance and strategy of technological development in the range of their usage" carried out by Institute of Mechanized Construction and Rock Mining division "Centre of Waste Disposal" in Katowice in cooperation with Department of Mineral Processing and Waste Disposal of Silesian University of Technology are presented. The purpose of a Project is to assess the possibility of including existing coal slurries deposits into national fuel balance. A project is in accordance with 2006/21/WE Directive of European Parliament and Commision regarding the management of waste from extractive industries and Act from 10th of July 2008 (Dz.U. z 2008 r. Nr 138, poz.865) regarding extractive waste that transposes Directive 2006/21/WE into Polish regulations.

The article identifies the main characteristics and features of the artistic arrangement of representative public buildings in Vienna that influenced analogical objects of Lviv in the second half of the 19th century. The issue of Vienna’s historicism and its peculiarities in interior decoration are also considered. The research involved selecting and analyzing key public buildings that are present in both cities, such as theaters, universities, the Diet (in case of Vienna – the Parliament), museums, courts and other sites with a broad representative group of rooms. These revealed common trends, direct and indirect quotations, both in artistic elements and in the overall order composition. The article also explores major public buildings in Vienna along with architects who have become role models and set some standards for the artistic design of the representative group of rooms. As a result, the influencing factors were identified, among which administrative, educational, cultural and economic issues are highlighted and reviewed.

In response to the problem of environmental protection, the electronic industry is studying the lead-free alloys as substitutes for lead-containing solder alloys. At the same time, with progress in electronic devices in recent years, smaller size and higher precision are strongly demanded in electronic board connections. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare fine powders of solder paste for these connections. To produce such lead-free solder balls, a novel powdermaking process, “hybrid atomization” that combines gas atomization and centrifugal atomization, was used. This technique produces very fine and spherical tin alloy powders with a mean diameter of about ten micrometers and very narrow size distribution with few satellites at low production cost. Taking a Sn-9mass%Zn alloy as an example, process experiments were carried out, and the effect of temperature, spray distance and disk rotating speed on the resultant powder properties were examined. The optimal processing conditions were determined from the results; the influences of the processing parameters on the properties of the obtained powders were quite different from those in the conventional atomization processes. The spherical powder with a mean diameter of 10.6 žm and a standard deviation of 1.3 ~ 1.7 was obtained in the determined optimum condition.

Cochliopodium megatetrastylus n. sp. is described based on light microscopy, fine structure and molecular genetic evidence. Amoebae are broadly oval to somewhat triangular during locomotion with average length of 37 μm and breadth of 50 μm, and surrounded by a hyaloplasm margin, somewhat narrow when at rest but more expanded during locomotion (~ 5–10 μm at the anterior). Sparsely occurring subpseudopodia, barely emergent from the hyaloplasm, are blunt and finger-like, occasionally becoming adhesive laterally or at the posterior. Cysts develop after 2–3 weeks in culture and are round with a distinct margin, decreasing in size from 20 to 5 μm during maturation. The granuloplasm contains refractile crystals. A vesicular nucleus (~ 6 μm), containing a nucleolus (2–3 μm), is variable in shape from somewhat lenticular in section to irregularly rounded with undulating or lobed margins. Surface scales (~ 0.3 μm in height) have an apical deeply concave funnel-like collar (~ 0.15 μm deep), without a spine, composed of radial fine rays and concentric filaments forming a finemesh, supported on four non-cross-linked styles (~ 0.2 μm apart) attached to a round to broadly angular base plate (0.6–1 μm) with a fine gridtexture. Cysts are rounded and enclosed by an organic wall bearing remnants of the scales on its outer surface. Both concatenated analysis of SSU-rDNA and COI genes and comparative morphologies support the designation of Cochliopodium megatetrastylus n. sp. as a new species.

Although Nabataean Painted Fine Ware (NPFW) has been examined in light of Stephan Schmid’s chronological typology since the late 1990s, few stratified contexts with NPFW from outside Petra have been published, and none derived from contexts occupied continuously from the Nabataean through Byzantine periods. Questions remain about the dating of later dekorphases (3–4) due to a lack of contexts. This paucity is remedied, however, by Area K at Roman Aqaba/Aila, Jordan. Area K was a domestic complex, just inside the later Byzantine city wall, excavated from 1994 through 2002. Using associated numismatic evidence and imported fine wares (primarily Eastern Sigillata A and African Red Slip), this paper argues that NPFW Dekorphase 3b appeared at Aila in the second half of the 1st century CE, and Dekorphase 3c appeared shortly afterwards, around the time of the Roman annexation in the beginning of the 2nd century.

The South African art is not uniform. It expresses cultural and civilization diversity of the country. In characterization of the art of white people in South Africa the article focuses above all on the fine arts (on painting and sculpture) but architecture, theatre and music were as taken into consideration. The art of white people in South Africa was being created and formed in specific conditions, far away from Europe. Although the art was powerfully influenced by Europe, especially in the initial period. In the beginning it was also very elite and quite impenetrable. It was not almost opened to the cultural heritage of the other inhabitants of South Africa. Together with the industrialization, increasing prosperity of white population, especially in the 20th century, significant development of the art of white people in this country occurred. At that time, artists derived inspirations as well from the African art. This art was creating its own and genuine style and some trends were strongly supported by authorities in Pretoria.

We describe Diplophrys parva n. sp., a freshwater heterotroph, using fine structural and sequence evidence. Cells are small (L = 6.5 ± 0.08, W = 5.5 ± 0.06 µm; mean ± SE) enclosed by an envelope/theca of overlapping scales, slightly oval to elongated-oval with rounded ends, (1.0 × 0.5–0.7 µm), one to several intracellular refractive granules (~ 1.0–2.0 µm), smaller hyaline peripheral vacuoles, a nucleus with central nucleolus, tubulo-cristate mitochondria, and a prominent Golgi apparatus with multiple stacked saccules (~ 10). It is smaller than published sizes of Diplophrys archeri (~ 10–20 µm), modestly less than Diplophrys marina (~ 5–9 µm), and differs in scale size and morphology from D. marina. No cysts were observed. We transfer D. marina to a new genus Amphifila as it falls within a mo-lecular phylogenetic clade extremely distant from that including D. parva. Based on morphological and molecular phylogenetic evidence, Labyrinthulea are revised to include six new families, including Diplophryidae for Diplophrys and Amphifilidae containing Amphifila. The other new families have distinctive morphology: Oblongichytriidae and Aplanochytriidae are distinct clades on the rDNA tree, but Sorodiplophryidae and Althorniidae lack sequence data. Aplanochytriidae is in Labyrinthulida; the rest are in Thraustochytrida; Laby-rinthomyxa is excluded.

Opis:
In order to effectively eliminate the effect of fine carbonate minerals on quartz flotation, the influence of fine siderite on quartz flotation was studied as well as the mechanism or role of ultrasonic treatment in the process. The results of adsorption capacity measurement and flotation solution chemical calculation show that fine siderite and its dissolved components have a great influence on the collector consumption and the surface properties of quartz. In addition, SEM, EDS and XPS analysis were used to study the surface morphology and chemical environment changes of quartz with and without ultrasonic treatment. The results of flotation test show that the recovery of quartz increase from 38.79% to 58.38% under the condition that ultrasonic time was 0.5 min and ultrasonic power was200 W. The mechanical effect caused by ultrasonic cavitation can clean the quartz surface to a certain extent and increase its active sites, thus improving the floatability of quartz.

The classification and separation of minerals happen in the traditional gravity separation simultaneously. This paper focuses on the classification performance of quartz particles in the enhanced gravity field. The classification efficiency of single quartz particles decreased then increased with the increase of rotational angular velocity, while it decreased with the increase of backwash water pressure. The classification efficiency of -0.5 +0.25mm, -0.25 +0.125mm, -0.125 +0.074mm, -0.074 +0.045mm and -0.045mm quartz was higher than the corresponding narrow size of -0.5mm quartz in general. The “fish-hook” phenomenon appeared in the partition curve of -0.5mm quartz under small/large rotational angular velocity and small backwash water pressure, and the dip point could be found in fine particles region, which indicated that the “fish-hook” was closely related with operating parameters and particle size. A medium rotational angular velocity and larger backwash water pressure could be helpful to avoid the appearance of “fish-hook” in fine particles region and achieve a better classification performance. This investigation is beneficial to understand the regularity of particle migration in the enhanced gravity field.

The subject of this article is the competence of the Financial Ombudsman to impose financial penalties on financial market entities for violations of the provisions of the Act of 5 August 2015 on complaints handling procedures by financial market entities and on the financial Ombudsman. One of the main tasks of the Financial Ombudsman is to enforce the proper performance by financial market entities of their obligations under the Act. For this purpose, Article 32(1) thereof provides that in the event of a breach of the provisions set out in the Act the Financial Ombudsman may, by way of a decision, impose a fine of up to PLN 100 000. The short duration of the new provisions and, consequently, the lack of case law outlining the directions of their interpretation may, particularly in the initial period, give rise to doubts as to their application. The aim of the article is to analyse possible disputable issues and provide proposals for their resolution. In particular, it is necessary to discuss the conditions for imposing a fine on a financial market entity. In this regard it is important to analyse both – the specific torts indicated in Article 32(1) of the said Act, as well as the general rules upon which the imposition of administrative fines by the Financial Ombudsman is possible. Also important is the consideration of the rules for determining the amount of the fine and in this matter the mutual relationship between Article 32 and the provisions of section IVa of the Act of 14 June 1960. Finally, amendments to certain provisions of the exiting laws are being proposed in order to increase the effectiveness of actions undertaken by the Financial Ombudsman and consequently to increase the level of protection of clients of financial market entities.

Mud-silt deposits of the Lower Jurassic Ciechocinek Formation from the Czestochowa-Wielun region are characterized by a low diversity ichnofossil association, which includes the ichnogenera Planolites, Palaeophycus, Helminthopsis, Gyrochorte, Protovirgularia and Spongeliomorpha as well as some unidentified pascichnia. This association points to deposition in a low-energy brackish environment with poorly oxygenated sediments. Changes of seafloor oxygenation, influenced by periodical bottom currents, resulted in various bioturbation intensities, which range from none to high.

In this study, Ni(OH)2 was synthesized by the continuous reaction by the Taylor fluid flow and compared with those prepared from the conventional batch type reaction. The nickel powders were synthesized by reduction of Ni(OH)2 in an aqueous solution with hydrazine hydrate acting as the reductant. And then the characteristics of the nickel powder according to the synthesis method were compared. The average particle size of the synthesized Ni(OH)2 using Taylor reactor was generally decreased about 1.5~2.5 times more than the batch reaction. The nickel powders prepared by the batch reaction highly agglomerated with non-uniform particles. In the Taylor reaction, the agglomeration of particles was broken and uniform nickel powder was produced.

Polyaluminum chloride (PACl) was introduced as a flocculant to reduce the entrainment of sericite gangue in fine flaky graphite flotation. The dispersion and aggregation behaviours of sericite and fine flaky graphite in the absence and presence of PACl were studied by settling experiments and verified by optical microscope images. Results of batch flotation tests for artificial mixtures indicated that the addition of PACl decreased the recovery of sericite gangue and the water recovery. Zeta potential measurements, FTIR and XPS analyses revealed that PACl selectively aggregated sericite particles in terms of charge neutralization and precipitate enmeshment.

Opis:
Flotation and enhanced gravity separation based on different separation principles were carried out to investigate the desulphurization and deashing efficiency of fine oxidized coal. Surface properties of fresh and oxidized coals were tested by XPS and results showed that the contents of hydrophobic functional groups decreased while the content of hydrophilic functional groups increased after oxidization. Floatability and density analysis results showed that the floatability of coal samples decreased sharply because of oxidation, however, density composition of coal sample only had slight changes. Separation results showed that yields of gravity concentrates outclassed that of flotation concentrates, meanwhile, ash contents and sulfur contents of gravity concentrates were far lower than that of flotation concentrates. Yields and ash contents increased with the collector dosage and achieved to be 17.83 and 26.94% respectively when the collector dosage was 1600 g•Mg-1. Yields and ash contents of gravity concentrates decreased with the centrifugal force and increased with the recoil water flow with similar sulfur content. Clean coal with yield of 53.86%, ash content of 9.81%, sulfur content of 1.47% and with a corresponding desulphurization efficiency of 44.53% was achieved at centrifugal force of 107 g and recoil water flow of 13.3 dm3•min-1. For fine oxidized coal, enhanced gravity separation has a significant advantage of the separation efficiency compared with flotation.

This is a scoping review of agglomeration techniques to obtain of solid bodies from particle waste-materials for their utilization. For this purpose, the granulation and briquetting of fine coal and fly ash were presented in detail. Many successful works on solid fuels production, with coal only, and also with the addition of biomass, were presented. During the solid fuel combustion in power boilers, significant amounts of ash are generated. The properties of fly ashes were taken into consideration, and different methods of their utilization were proposed to obtain a wide range of useful products. Con-sequently, the waste resources of coal and ash were fully utilized. In final remarks, it was concluded, that the agglomeration techniques play an important role in waste management, but particularly in the circular economy.

The article presents results of investigations on autogenous laser welding of new grade STRENX 1100 MC steel. The modern Disk laser was applied for of 5.0 mm thick butt joints welding. The influence of laser welding parameters, mainly the energy input of laser welding on the penetration shape, weld quality, structure and mechanical performance was investigated. It was found that the investigated steel has surprisingly low carbon equivalent CET just 0.328, and also relatively high temperature of martensitic transformation Ms at 430.6°C. Despite very rapid cooling times t8/5 in a range from 0.6 to 1.3 s, thus rapid solidification there was no tendency to cracking of weld metal or HAZ. Significant drop of microhardness in the HAZ resulted in a decrease of tensile strength of joints, compared to the base metal. Impact toughness of test joints was at only 50÷60% of the base metal.

The present study attempts to apply HE to 99.99% pure copper. The microstructure of the samples was investigated by both light microscopy and scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). Additionally, the microhardness was measured, the tensile test was made, and statistical analysis of the grains and subgrains was performed. Based on Kikuchi diffraction patterns, misorientation was determined. The obtained results show that microstructure of copper deformed by hydrostatic extrusion (HE) is rather inhomogeneous. The regions strongly deformed with high dislocation density exist near cells and grains/subgrains free of dislocations. The measurements of the grain size have revealed that the sample with an initial in annealed-state grain size of about 250 μm had this grain size reduced to below 0.35μm when it was deformed by HE to the strain ε=2.91. The microhardness and UTS are stable within the whole investigated range of deformation.

The rock type in Panxi area is changing from gabbro type to olivine pyroxene type, which makes it difficult for enterprises to obtain better beneficiation indexes at present. In order to solve this problem, we use a variety of modern test techniques, such as zeta potential measurements, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, adsorption amount measurements, and mineral-reagent interaction energy simulation to analyze the influence of particle size on mineral flotation behavior and the interaction of fine-grained minerals in this paper. The experiments results indicate that the presence of fine-grained (-19 um) mineral particles is deleterious to the flotation of ilmenite, the ilmenite recovery decreases as the microfine grade content of pyroxene and olivine increases, distribution of narrow size minerals is beneficial to the minerals flotation performance, and the order of sodium oleate (NaOL) adsorption strength on different ilmenite crystal planes is (1011) > (0001). The research results of this paper deepen the understanding of the olivine type ilmenite resources in Panxi area, enrich the theoretical system of flotation separation of refractory ilmenite, and provide theoretical support for the key technical problems of flotation separation of ilmenite in Panxi area.

Combined with the characteristics of flotation feed originating from China’s Panyidong Coal Preparation Plant, the ash, zeta potential, X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy and contact angle test were used to study changes in the surface properties of flotation feed under ultrasonic pre-treatment, and its effect on flotation of coal slime. Results show that Preferred pre-treatment process is ultrasonic secondary treatment, ultrasonic secondary pre-treatment can remove most of the high-ash fine mud for instance kaolinite, montmorillonite and quartz in the coal slurry, reduce the surface electronegativity of coal particles, and increase the contact angle of coal particles. Thus, the concentrate ash content decreases to 13%, the recovery rate, yield of flotation concentrate and combustible matter recovery reach 92.6%, 90.9% and 97.6%, respectively.

Art practices occupy a space of liminality within academia, being valid, appropriate to illustrate questions and discourses in social sciences and humanities, and not sufficient in mainstream academia to assert what art foregrounds as ‘knowledge’. So, what happens when art has something to claim through non-academic methods of inquiry? Even more complicated, what happens when art allows putting forward theoretical hypothesis involving the immateriality of affect? Departing from a practice-led research focusing on the endurance of white, cisgender, and heteropatriarchic impositions, as well as the ways these impositions materialise themselves on the body, this paper explores the possibilities of Fucking with grammar, a writing method developed throughout the writing of my PhD research. Linguistics has been stretched for centuries by QUILTBAG individuals — queer and questioning, unsure, intersex, lesbian, transgender and two-spirit, bisexual, asexual and aromantic, gay and genderqueer; swardspeak, lavender, and code-switching all entail ways of reshaping and creating language as response to socio-political necessities, camouflage, or simply to access a jargon that can be more faithful to practices and embodiments of the group creating it. However, there is a different kind of reclaiming emerging, when performance artist, actress, and activist Linn da Quebrada utters “I am a cisgender woman with one breast and a penis,” she is committing the kind of epistemic disobedience that undoes epistemology. Here, I focus on disobediences that bring western epistemologies to collapse. These challenges that contribute to what Denise Ferreira da Silva calls “the end of the world as we know it” (2014). To end what ‘we’ know requires a different ‘how’, it entails methodological deployments that help bringing into crisis academic hierarchies regarding [research] corroborability. Questioning after Audre Lorde: how does one make tangible the immeasurable and unpredictable without being averted and undercut by the tools still sustaining the master’s house? The approach I propose here is Fucking with grammar. Fucking with is associated with messing with someone; fuck you or fuck me is negatively perceived; in sex, ‘fuck you’ or ‘fuck me’ is one-sided — the act of fucking should be fucking with, because even when saying ‘I want to fuck you’ it is still necessary more than one person for this ‘fucking’ to actually happen. Similarly, in English, the correct preposition following the verb ‘to dream’ is ‘of’ or ‘about’, which makes absolutely no sense: because when one is dreaming, one is embedded in a withness that ‘of’ or ‘about’ cannot account for. This piece shares how I fuck with grammar within a practice-led PhD research: applying Portuguese and Turkish grammar structures to English, generating verbs or nouns out of adjectives and vice versa[s]. Fucking with grammar is a mode of surpassing some of language’s limitations when speaking of that which is immaterial; it is a semantic slap in the face calling for decolonisation of one’s immediacy of logic when assuming typos and linguistic ignorance within writings not following English normativities. I t is a method that contributes to a broader challenge to formats sustaining hierarchies around what is considered ‘academic’ research.

The author discusses the nature and scope of changes introduced to the Code of Petty Offences and the Code of Procedure in Petty Offences Cases by the Act of 2 December 2021. The amendment represents a drastic intervention by the legislator in the current legal framework regarding offences against safety and order in transportation. It foresees significant modifications in the legal and criminal response to these offences, transformations in the characteristics of selected types of prohibited acts, and proposes entirely new types of prohibited acts. The analysis suggests that the guiding principle behind these changes is to increase the degree of punitiveness of petty offences law towards perpetrators of traffic violations. This legislative approach raises concerns about the instrumental use of petty offences law with respect to the perpetrators of these offences. The adopted direction of changes raises suspicions that the legislator has not thoroughly familiarised themselves with the matter covered by their intervention. In any case, it is not grounded in the current state of traffic criminality, or in the analysis of judicial practice. An increase in repressiveness has never directly translated into a reduction in traffic criminality. The latter is a much more complex problem, involving the necessity of multi-faceted references.

The purpose of the study is to present the principles of education in the field of book art as part of applied graphics, provided at the Academies of Fine Arts in Krakow and Warsaw. These two academic environments stimulated revival of this type of education. The analysis pertains to 1945–1952 when Poland witnessed crucial political and ideological changes affecting a new character of education. In the study, the process of nationalisation of artistic education is presented. The author shares her assumptions of the new teaching curricula designed in accordance with the ideological needs of the communist authorities. Marxism-Leninism was taught as a foreground subject. Graphic departments were established to educate specialists to be employed by the state propaganda. An attempt has been made to reconstruct the personal composition of the graphic faculties lecturers in both academic centres.

In addition to rock waste post-mining waste dump sites also contain coal grains justifying treating the dump sites as secondary mineral deposits. The article presents the results of laboratory tests aimed at determining the possibility of using suspending bed technology to separate a combustible substance from post-mining waste of a 4-0 mm grain size. The test results showed the possibility of obtaining good quality coal concentrates from coal waste of a grain size of 4-1 mm. The need for desludging and densifying the feed for the classifier with an autogenic suspending bed in the case of coal waste beneficiation in a wide 4-0 mm grain size justifies the use of a twochamber device or two separate classifiers for narrower grain size classes. Concepts of systems for the recovery of fine coal grains providing the use of the classifier with autogenous suspending bed for the density distribution of feeds with high ash content are presented. The concepts were developed for beneficiation of the material in a 4-0 mm grain class.

The shear strength of sand and its mechanical properties can be affected by numerous parameters. This work presents an experimental investigation which aims to study the influence of the fines content, the depositional method and the grain size on the shear strength of Chlef sand. Tests were conducted with the shear box on two types of soil, the natural sand and the clean sand-silt mixture. Dense samples (Dr = 88%) were reconstituted through dry deposition for each type of the material. An additional series of tests was carried out on a medium dense natural sand (Dr = 52%) prepared by dry and wet (w = 3%) deposition methods. All specimens were subjected to normal stresses of 100 kPa, 200 kPa and 300 kPa and there was no immersion of water. The tests results show that the behavior of sand can be affected by three parameters, the fines content, the deposition method and the particle size. The maximum shear stress and the friction angle decrease as the fines content increases, the initial water content increases, the effective grain size diameter decreases and the uniformity coefficient increases. The cohesion intercept increases with the increasing fines content and decreasing initial water content. Overall, the samples prepared by the dry deposition method show more resistance than those prepared by the wet deposition method. The results obtained are generally in agreement with the previous research on drained and undrained saturated sand in the literature.

Opis:
Using more efficient collector to improve the recovery efficiency of fine copper oxide has become imperative as the shortage of copper mineral resources. In this study, the new collector 3-hydroxy butyrate-carboxy methyl cellulose xanthate (HCMCX) was synthesized by carboxy methyl cellulose, 3-hydroxy butyrate and carbon disulfide, all of which as raw materials . The structural characteristics of HCMCX was detected by both infrared spectrum and ultraviolet spectrum. Besides, the interacting behavior between HCMCX and fine malachite was investigated through particle size analysis, contact angle measurements, and flotation tests. Particle size analysis indicated that the mean size of malachite was increased by 8 μm while the HCMCX concentration at 200 mg/dm3. The contact angle measurements demonstrated that, comparing with the collector AX at a same dosage, the mineral surface of malachite showed a stronger hydrophobicity after interacting with HCMCX. Microflotation tests results exhibited that the recovery of malachite was about 94% when the pulp pH 8 and collector concentration at 200 mg/dm3. The results of practical ore flotation tests showed that HCMCX could as an excellent collector for flotation of fine malachite, finally to achieve the concentrates containing 20% Cu and 88% Cu recovery.

The effects of ultrasonic treatment of different time on the particle size, morphology, ash content, and elementary composition of fine coal particles (74-45 μm) were investigated in this paper. The size reduction of coal particles induced by ultrasonic treatment was analyzed through the Focused Beam Reflectance Measurement (FBRM) and the variation of mechanical pulverization mechanism was discussed. The Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) measurements showed that the sharp corners on coal particles was ground to round ones after ultrasonic treatment. This may be not conducive to coal flotation. It was also found that the ash content of 74-45 μm coal particles was increased gradually with the increase of ultrasonic time, while the ash content of -45 μm fraction was decreased. This was supported by the EDS measurements, indicating that the carbon content on the surfaces of 74-45 μm coal was reduced while the aluminium and silicon contents were increased after ultrasonic treatment.

The presence of CO2 in the syngas is attracting more attention in terms of reducing the greenhouse gas emissions in its utilisation. The aim of this study was to purify syngas from the CO2 content of fine coal gasification. Fine coal is gasified with and without absorption using CaO, which is hydrated to Ca(OH) 2 in the modified updraft gasifier at 450–700 °C. Apart from investigating the CO2 absorption process, the gasification process also evaluates the influence of temperature in terms of its synergy with Ca(OH) 2. The best conditions for the gasification process are achieved at 700 °C. The content of CO2 was proven to be well absorbed, which is characterised by a decrease in the CO2 content and an increase in H2 in syngas. After the absorption process, the H2 content obtained increased from 42.6 mole% to 48.8 mole% of H2 at 700°C. The H2 ratio also increased after absorption to 2.57 from the previous value of 2.23. The highest absorption efficiency of CO2 by Ca(OH) 2 occurred at 700°C at 50.63%. With an increase in temperature in the gasification process with absorption, the CO2 content decreased dramatically from 16.9 mole% to 3.9%. Ca(OH) 2 has good absorption power at CO2 at high temperatures.

In the present article I use the terminology introduced by Svetlana Boym of restorative nostalgia and reflective nostalgia regarding works of contemporary fine art. Restorative nostalgia implies an effort to revive the past – but without acknowledging that the desired and idealized past never existed, therefore it cannot be restored, either. I illustrate the application of this concept through the “new-academic” direction in today’s contemporary Hungarian fine arts. The reflective nostalgia is aware of the idealizing momentum of the desired past, it reflects critically upon its own desires, and it highlights possibilities in the past regarding the present – often playfully or with irony. I illustrate the latter through the works of the Chinese Ai Wei Wei and the Romanian Mircea Cantor. I argue that reflective nostalgia is not a fruitless burial into the past, but a resource for processing the passing of time in a creative manner.

Acoustic radiation sources are successfully applied to cleaning rooms from dust of fairly large particle sizes (ten micrometers and larger). The sedimentation of fine aerosols (particle diameter of 1–10 microns) is a more complicated challenge. The paper is devoted to the substantiation of the acoustic sedimentation method for such aerosols. On the basis of the mathematical model analysis for aerosol sedimentation by the acoustic field the mechanisms of this process have been determined and include the particle coagulation acceleration and radiation pressure effect. The experimental results of the acoustic sedimentation of a model aerosol (NaCl) are shown. The calculation results according to the mathematical model for coagulation and sedimentation, on the basis of the Smolukhovsky’s equation taking into account various mechanisms of aerosol sedimentation by sound depending on the particle sizes and sound intensity, are given. The necessity to use intensive sources of high-frequency sound has been confirmed, suggesting that these sources must be located above dust clouds.

Finding an efficient way to eliminate fine dust (particle diameter of 1-15 µm) from a room can be a challenging problem. Acoustic radiation emitters are widely used to accelerate particle coagulation and sedimentation. In this study, we propose one more method for depositing harmful particles – dispersion of electrostatically charged particles. These particles attract uncharged particles from the air and accelerate coagulation. The paper is devoted to a comparison of methods for the acoustic and electrostatic sedimentation of aerosols. The mathematical model for the coagulation of aerosols on the basis of Smoluchowski’s equation is proposed in the options corresponding to acoustic and electrostatic coagulation. A number of conclusions about the most effective conditions of sedimentation were made on the basis of the analysis of a kernel type of Smoluchowski’s integral equation. The results of the experiments on acoustic and electrostatic sedimentation of the model aerosol media (coal dust) are given. The results of the calculations according to the mathematical model of coagulation taking into account the proposed mechanisms for the sedimentation of aerosols in the acoustic field and electrostatic charging of particles are given.

The paper addresses the issue of an extraordinarily lenient penalty for crimes threatened with mandatory cumulative penalties of deprivation of liberty and fines. It was established that Article 60 § 6, point 2 of the Criminal Code clearly resolves this issue in a positive way and provides for imposing only the penalty of deprivation of liberty as an exceptionally lenient penalty. Thus, the author questioned the assertion that the extraordinary leniency in respect of the cumulative sanctions of imprisonment consists in the meting out of a sentence of imprisonment not less than one third of the lower limit of the statutory penalty and a fine pursuant to general principles.

Atmospheric pollution caused by particulate matter is a major problem of urban agglomerations and big cities, both in Poland and in Europe. Almost 83% of the population living in major European cities is exposed to the adverse effects of air pollution, due to the presence of concentrations exceeding acceptable levels. The aim of the study was to analyze the seasonal variation of the fine particulate matter concentration and the assessment of its impact on the health of the inhabitants of Wroclaw. Measurement results of research on PM concentrations from Wroclaw in 2013-2015 conducted by the authors, as well as the Regional Inspectorate of Environment Protection (RIEP)were used in this study. The analysis showed that daily concentrations of particulate matter PM2.5 (station situated in the vicinity of Al. Wisniowa) in 2015 were in the range of 6-110 µg/3, whereas the concentrations registered on Na Grobli street were in the range of 5-88 µg/3. The averaged concentration on Na Grobli street recorded in 2014 was:32 µg/3 in the heating season and 16 µg/3in the rest of the year , whereas in the case of Al. Wisniowa: 40 µg/3 and 17 µg/3, respectively. In order to determine the potential impact of selected air pollutants on the health of the inhabitants of Wroclaw, the AirQ 2.2.3 model (The Air Quality Health Impact Assessment Tool) was used. AirQ model allows the assessment of the impact of air pollution on human health in two categories: morbidity and mortality. Analyses showed that the estimated number of cases of mortality per 100 000, relating to the short-term impact of the concentration of dust at the average value of the relative risk of 1.14 for the PM2.5 concentration measured at Al. Wisniowa and at Na Grobli street in 2014 amounted to 166.0 cases and 150.2 cases, respectively.

Upper Cretaceous fine-grained rocks (the “Plänermergel”) from the Stołowe Mountains are in general strongly bioturbated. The sections studied (180 m thick), located in the southern part of the mountains, are dominated by mudstones, marlstones and siltstones; sandstones, partly unbioturbated, are subordinate. The entire sequence shows a succession of ichnofabrics, which reflects a transgressive-regressive cycle (Cenomanian) and a regressive cycle (lower to middle/upper? Turonian). The trace fossil assemblage contains nine ichnogenera: Asterosoma, Cylindrichnus, Ophiomorpha, Palaeophycus, Phycosiphon, Planolites, Taenidium, Teichichnus, and Thalassinoides. Three basic types of ichnofabrics have been recognized: Ophiomorpha, Thalassinoides and Phycosiphon, all representing fully marine ichnofacies. The first two of these belong to the Cruziana ichnofacies, indicating the offshore zone, and the third one probably to the Zoophycos ichnofacies indicating a quiet shelfal setting below storm wave base.

The flotation behavior of hard-to-separate and high-ash fine coal was investigated using conventional flotation with constant power input. A new flotation process, based on energy input and distribution, was designed to lower the ash content of concentrate. The results obtained using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis show that the coal samples have good floatability because of many hydrophobic and few hydrophilic functional groups. Under a constant power input, a large number of ash-forming materials floated into a froth product at the start of flotation. Based on the Fuerstenau upgrading curves, it was determined that the 0.25-0.074 mm size fraction range showed the worst selectivity when compared with 0.50-0.25 mm and -0.074 mm size fractions. The desired concentrate with an ash content of 13.98%, 27.59% of ash recovery, and 80.01% combustible matter recovery could be obtained by transferring the excess energy of the flotation-conditioning stage to the pre-conditioning stage and increasing the power input step-by-step in the flotation-conditioning stage at equal total energy consumption.

Objectives: Salivary gland tumors account for only 3% of head and neck tumors. Their character is mostly benign, although tumors of the submandibular gland are more often malignant. The purpose of this article was to evaluate the structure of patients operated due to submandibular gland tumor and to study the correlation between fine-needle aspiration cytology and postoperative histopathological examination. Methodology: We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of all patients with submandibular gland tumors. The collected data included the demographic structure, results of preoperative fine-needle aspiration cytology and postoperative histopathologic examination. Results: We analyzed 58 patients – 35 women and 23 men with a mean age of 56.6 years. The character of the lesion was benign in 45 cases and malignant in 13. The most frequent benign tumors were pleomorphic adenoma, inflammatory tumor and Warthin’s tumor, whereas most common malignancies were carcinoma planoepitheliale and lymphoma . There were four recurrences. Moreover, we compared results of preoperative fine-needle aspiration cytology and histopathological findings. The accuracy of this examination was almost 83%; 56% of incorrect results involved nondetection of malignancies. The sensitivity and specificity in the diagnosis of those tumors were 58.3% and 97.5%, respectively. Conclusions: The most common types of submandibular gland tumors are pleomorphic adenoma and carcinoma planoepitheliale and lymphoma amongst malignancies. Fine-needle aspiration cytology is accurate in the preoperative diagnosis, mistakes are mostly caused by underdiagnosis of malignant tumors.

Diabetic macular edema (DME) is the dominant reason of diabetic visual loss, so early detection and treatment of DME is of great significance for the treatment of diabetes. Based on transfer learning, an automatic classification method is proposed to distinguish DME images from normal images in optical coherence tomography (OCT) retinal fundus images. Features of the DME are automatically identified and extracted by the pre-trained convolutional neural network (CNN), which only involves fine-tuning the VGGNet-16 network without any user intervention. An accuracy of 97.9% and a sensitivity of 98.0% are acquired with the OCT images in the Duke data set from experimental results. The proposed method, a core part of an automated diagnosis system of the DME, revealed the ability of fine-tuning models to train non-medical images, allowing them can be classified with limited training data. Moreover, it can be developed to assist early diagnosis of the disease, effectively delaying (or avoiding) the progression of the disease, consequently.

As the supply of high-quality coals decreases and mechanical coal mining becomes more widespread, the high selective recovery of high-ash fine coal has become a prominent problem in the flotation process. Herein, we discuss the main reasons why the selective separation of high-ash fine coal is difficult. The analysis of high-ash fine coal properties shows that coarse particles (0.25-0.5 mm) account for 22.53% of the total size fraction and that 57.90% of the coal is moderate- or high-density (+1.4 g/cm3) intergrowth. Grinding experiments show that the traditional rod mill has little impact on the liberation of the intergrowth. Instead, its main function is to adjust the particle size composition to ensure that the particle sizes of high-ash fine coal are within the particle size range suitable for flotation. The flotation results show that a clean coal yield of 30.42%, with a 12.46% ash content, is obtained with the optimal flotation parameters through the roughing and cleaning flotation process. However, the flotation results also show that in the separation of high-ash fine coal, it is difficult to obtain clean coal with a high yield and low ash content at the same time. This is mainly due to the similar floatability of moderate-density and low-density coal particles, which allows a large number of moderate-density coal particles to be recovered, and a significant slime coating of clay on the coal’s surface that is generated during the flotation process. The results of this work provide valuable guidance for high-ash fine coal industrial flotation applications.

The sulfur content in iron ore causes technical problems in the process of sintering iron ore in steel and alloys, and environmental problems in discharging the tailing. The major challenge in the iron ore processing plant is handling the finer particles. The key objectives of this research included the concentration of Band Narges Mine iron ore (< 150 μm) as well as the reduction of the sulfur content to achieve a marketable product. First, the mineralogical characterization of iron ore was established, which showed that Fe3O4, SiO2, and CaO were the predominant minerals in the ore body. Moreover, magnetite particles with a size of < 150 μm were mainly locked into the associated gangue mineral. Second, metallurgical experiments were conducted, including magnetic separation and froth flotation. To increase the iron grade and recovery and decrease the sulfur content, two separate process flowsheets were tested, three steps of magnetic separation with a magnetic field strength of 2000 G were used in the first process flowsheets, followed by regrinding to < 74 μm and application of a three-stage reverse flotation. The overall iron grade and recovery were 76.38% and 67.9%, respectively, from this flowsheet. A five-stage successive reverse flotation followed by three stages of magnetic separation at 1000 G was carried out in the second flowsheet. The final recovery and grade of iron for this flowsheet were 77.15% and 64.3%, respectively. The ultimate content of sulfur was estimated at 0.74%.

Autorzy odwołali się do koncepcji społeczeństwa kapitalistycznego Herberta Marcusego, a szczególnie do kategorii represyjnej desublimacji. Restauracje oferujące wykwintne jedzenie (fine dining) stawiają sobie za cel stworzenia możliwości całościowego doświadczenia bliskiego doświadczeniu sztuki. Ceną takiej koncepcji gastronomi jest często nie tylko gigantyczny rachunek, ale też wyzysk pracowniczy i przemoc. Kryzys tego tylu wskazuje z jednej strony, na ekonomiczne uwarunkowania konsumpcjonizmu, ale z drugiej też na niemożność ucieczki od sprzeczności kultury społeczeństwa kapitalistycznego, które się z nim wiążą. 
The presented text pertains to eating within the context of consumerism and its critique. Reflections are based on the film Menu, whose plot served posing fundamental questions about the mechanisms of the contemporary culture of consumption. The authors referred to Herbert Marcus’ conception of capitalist society and in particular the category of repressive desublimation. The goal of restaurants offering fine dining is to create the possibility of a holistic experience close to experiencing art. The price of such a conception of gastronomy is often not merely an exorbitant bill but also the exploitation of workers and violence. The ensuing crisis indicates, on the one hand, the economic conditioning of consumerism, but on the other hand the impossibility of evading the contradictions of the culture of capitalist society with which they are associated.

The subject of the article is the problem of limitation periods for expunging a conviction in Polish criminal law in a situation where a fine or restriction of liberty was imposed. The study evaluates the current state of the law, which provides for expunging a conviction imposing a fine with the lapse of one year from the enforcement of the penalty, its remittance or the expiration of the limitation period for its enforcement, and for the penalty of restriction of liberty with the lapse of three years. The Ministry of Justice’s proposals to amend Article 107 of the Penal Code were also analyzed. In addition, the article discusses the problem of expunging a conviction when cumulative punishments are imposed – a fine or a sentence of restriction of liberty in addition to imprisonment. It was noted that the Penal Code lacks rules for expunging this type of conviction. The article assumes that in a situation where a conviction consists of more than one penalty, the conditions for expunging the conviction of all these penalties must be jointly met in order for such a conviction to be expunged.

Ryzyko kredytowe wynika z możliwości niedotrzymania warunków umowy przez kredytobiorcę i polega na nieotrzymaniu przez bank w ustalonym terminie płatności określonej warunkami kredytu. Ryzyko kredytowe najczęściej jest utożsamiane z wystąpieniem niewypłacalności kredytobiorcy. Jak zauważają Hu i Cheng (2015), w literaturze przedmiotu do tej pory zbyt mało uwagi poświęcono zdarzeniom konkurującym z ryzykiem niewypłacalności i ich potencjalnemu wpływowi na oszacowanie prawdopodobieństwa niewypłacalności. W artykule niewypłacalność kredytobiorcy i wcześniejsza spłata są traktowane jako zdarzenia konkurujące. Do badania natężenia zdarzeń konkurujących zastosowano dwa podejścia – oszacowanie intensywności zdarzenia typu c (cause-specific hazard) oraz metodę intensywności subrozkładu (subdistribution hazard). Omówiono zasady interpretacji wyników w przypadku stosowania każdego z podejść w modelowaniu ryzyka kredytowego. Dla każdego z podejść zbudowano odpowiednie modele regresyjne, przeprowadzono analizę wrażliwości i porównano uzyskane wyniki. Badanie empiryczne przeprowadzono na podstawie próby 5 tys. 60-miesięcznych kredytów udzielonych przez jedną z instytucji kredytowych w Polsce. Do budowy modeli regresyjnych ryzyka niewypłacalności wykorzystano dane aplikacyjne kredytobiorców.
Credit risk arises from the debtor’s possible failure to meet the terms and conditions of the credit contract. As a result, the bank does not receive a particular payment stipulated by the contractual provisions. Credit risk usually equates with the credit taker’s insolvency. Hu and Cheng (2015) note the shortage of studies devoted to other kinds of credit risks competing with the risk of default and their influence on the evaluation of the probability of default. In the article, a default and an early repayment are considered to be competing risks. Two approaches were used to research the intensity of competing risks: evaluation of cause-specific hazard and sub-distribution hazard respectively. The interpretation principles within the results acquired by the use of either method have been discussed. For either of the approaches, proper regression models have been set up, alongside conducting the sensitivity analysis. The results have been duly compared. The empirical study employed a sample of 5000 sixty-months’ credits granted by one of the Polish financial institutions. Application characteristics of the credit takers have been used in regression models as covariates.

Overdiagnosis of thyroid cancers contributes to increased incidence of thyroid cancers worldwide, which is already a serious public health problem. A great number of medical tests, helping to detect thyroid cancer, may result in an epidemic of diagnosis. A dramatic increase in the number of detected cases of thyroid cancer may be associated with a great number of neck ultrasounds, fine- needle aspirations and incidental findings during examination. Unfortunately, in response to overdiagnosis, more and more surgeries are being performed. It is important to differentiate stationary cancers from potentially aggressive diseases. Detection of cancer contributes to saving lives. However, in some instances it can be harmful, particularly if the disease is overdiagnosed. The aim of this review is to give a balanced view of thyroid cancer epidemic and controversies arising out of overdiagnosis.

The present work is a contribution to rescue the history of development of the application of 99mTc, widely used in nuclear medicine, to its use as tracer for the study of the transport of fi ne sediment in suspension, in water environment. It addresses the usefulness of its application in obtaining important parameters in environmental studies, illustrating them with some applications already performed and the results obtained. This kind of study, when associated with information on hydrodynamic parameters, for example, river, tidal, wind and wave currents, are powerful tools for the understanding and quantification of fi ne sediment transport in suspension. Fine sediment is an important vector in the transportation of heavy metals, organic matter and nutrients in water environment, and the quantitative knowledge of its behaviour is mandatory for studies of environmental impacts. Fine sediment labelled with 99mTc, can also be used to study the effect of human interventions, such as dredging of reservoirs, access channels and harbours, and the dumping of dredged materials in water bodies. Besides that, it can be used to optimize dredging works, evaluating the technical and economic feasibility of dumping sites and their environmental impact. It is a valuable support in the calibration and validation of mathematical models for sediment dynamics.

Technical education and arts education in younger years of elementary school often contribute to final effects of the activities undertaken by children. This process is connected with the human need to create objects, which apart from being more or less useful should be also beautiful. The study focuses on the difficulties some early school education teachers have to distinguish activities related to tasks carried out within the scope of technical education and those related to arts education. It should be underlined that children’s ability to create objects of practical use is mostly emphasized by the principles and aims of technical education, whereas the purpose of art activities is to help children discover beauty by collecting experience. Despite such assumptions, a significant part of the respondents does not notice any distinctive variations between these educational areas, stating that the distinctions are blurred and indicating that selected art tasks are parts of technical classes.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań zawartości ziaren hydrofilowych w produktach uzyskanych w wyniku opróbowania maszyn flotacyjnych typu IZ - 12 wzbogacających węgle o różnym stopniu uwęglenia. Stwierdzono, że istnieje zależność między zawartością ziaren hydrofilowych a zawartością popiołu w zbiorze bardzo drobnych ziaren węglowych. Zależność ta może być przydatna podczas analizy pracy maszyn flotacyjnych. Ponadto równania regresji 100 - Γ = ƒ(A(a)) opisujące zależność zawartości ziaren hydrofilowych od zawartości popiołu umożliwiają wyznaczenie zawartości ziaren hydrofilowych w grupie ziaren przy znanej zawartości popiołu w tej grupie.
The results of determination of hydrophilic particles share in products obtained during IZ-12 flotation machines sampling, which beneficiate coals of different coalification, were presented in the paper. It was found that there is a relationship between the share of hydrophilic particles and the ash content in very fine coals. This relationship can be useful during the analysis of operation of flotation machines. Moreover, regression equations describing the relationship between the share of hydrophilic particles and the ash content (100 - Γ = ƒ(A(a))), enable to determine the share of hydrophilic particles in a set of coal particles when ash content in this set is known.

One of the central tasks of credit institutions is credit risk assessment, in which the estimation of the probability of default is an important element. The size of an institution’s credit portfolio can decrease as a result of early repayments, which changes the probability of default over time. Prognosis of the probability of default should therefore also take into consideration the prognosis of early repayments. In this paper, methods of evaluating the probability of default over time, using competing risks regression models, are considered. Methods of evaluation for models of default over time are proposed. A sample of retail credits, provided by a Polish financial institution, was empirically examined.

Badania turbulentnego przepływu strugi powietrza opływającej przeszkodę prowadzono wykorzystując do tego celu wiązkę światła laserowego, przechodzącą przez badany obszar.
The paper presents possible application of laser beam in observation of small vortices. The experimental research was conducted in wind tunnel. This allowed the air velocity to be controlled. Study of the turbulent flow of air stream around an object was performed with application of laser beam parameters.

Introduction. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a problem presenting multiple issues and the prevalence of this condition is quite significant. CP risk factors are mainly observed in prematurely born children as well as those affected by complications around the time of birth or during the period of mother’s pregnancy. Quite frequently CP is manifested by abnormal muscle tone, contractures and deformities, and consequently impaired fine and gross motor functions. Aim. The study was designed to examine the level of hand function, i.e. fine motor skills and to investigate whether there is a correlation between development of fine motor and gross motor functions. Material and methods. The study group included 80 children with infantile CP. In the group there were 24 cases with spastic diplegia, 36 with spastic hemiplegia, and 20 with bilateral hemiplegia. During the study the children performed Box and Blocks test, and their parents filled in Manual Ability Classification System (MACS) describing the level of fine motor function development in their children. The children were additionally asked to perform two motor tasks. The first one involved an attempt to assume position on all fours, and the other one checked the ability to assume and maintain standing position. Results. The best scores in the conducted tests were found in children with CP taking the form of spastic diplegia, and the poorest scores in MACS, Box and Blocks test as well as in motor tasks assessing gross motor function were observed in children with bilateral hemiplegia. Conclusion. The form of infantile CP affects the level of manual abilities. There is a correlation between the level of gross motor and fine motor functions development.

The necessary drainage and dewatering system of the exhausted and closed Zn-Pb ore mines in the Bytom area in Poland can be treated as a process of in situ leaching of sparingly soluble minerals from the disturbed rock mass. The slimes obtained from the discharged water treatment are considered to be useless material. Currently, their management only increases the cost of water drainage process. The lack of interest in the apparently unattractive market product, and certain formal resistance, result in the fact that the dewatering technological line has not been closed at a level of the intentionally conducted process of in situ leaching. The paper presents the authors’ conception of winning useful, fine-grained limestone by modification of currently used technology of discharged water treatment from heavy metals (Zn, Pb and Cd). The essence of the process is receiving two products: cleaned water and mineral material having various possible applications.

The efficiency of talc mechanical activation by means of two different mechano-activators - centrifugal and attrition mill is investigated in this study and the comparative analysis of the characteristics of obtained talc powders is presented. A new approach for obtaining high-grade talc concentrate with low Fe2O3 content is achieved through effect of mechanical activation of talc accompanied by hydrometallurgical process. The applied mechanical activation process conditions of ultra-centrifugal mill were defined by number of rotor revolutions, sieve mesh size, and current intensity. These operating parameters of the ultra-centrifugal mill were variable. Ultra fine grinding of talc in attrition mill (attritor) was carried out in various time intervals - from 5 to 15 min. The following technological parameters of the mechanical activation were monitored: time of mechanical activation, circumferential rotor speed, capacity of ultra-centrifugal mill, and specific energy consumption. The investigation was based on a kinetic model. The structure and behavior of activated samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, and differential thermal analysis (DTA).

At EN III.1 1109b31-32 Aristotle says we praise and censure voluntary actions and we feel sympathy for involuntary actions, and sometimes even pity. Next he examines which actions are voluntary and involuntary. This examination is connected with determination of the conditions under which the person is auctor agendi and thus can respond for the action. But it is not right to say, when somebody is auctor agendi his action is responsible. Hence, to answer to the question which action is responsible action in Aristotle, the author considers the issue in two stages. The first stage is devoted to clarification what does it mean to be the agent of action. The second stage gives the explanation of what does it mean “to decide for the action accordance with virtue because of it”. As the result, the author demonstrates that the responsible action is taken on the basis of decision and for the sake of fine. He shows such action is fine because: a) the realized end is fine; b) it is choiceworthy in itself; c) the motive of the agent is the fine.

Objectives The aim of the study has been to investigate the effect of the Standard Reference Material of fine particulate matter (SRM 2786) on cytotoxicity and apoptosis in human lung bronchial epithelial cells (16HBE cells). Whether the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation could further accelerate cell apoptosis induced by SRM 2786 stimulation has also been determined. Material and Methods 16HBE cells were exposed to various doses of SRM 2786 with or without LPS. The following parameters: cytotoxicity, apoptotic rate, Bax/Bcl-2 expression, nitric oxide (NO) production, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation were measured. Results The results have shown that SRM 2786 induces cell damage and apoptosis of 16HBE cells as demonstrated by significant decrease in expression of Bcl-2 and increase in expression of Bax. When compared with the control cells, the apoptotic rate of cells treated by 500 μg/ml of SRM 2786 increased from 2.43±0.21% to 43.96±2.95% (p < 0.01). Further, there was an elevated production of NO and ROS post SRM 2786 treatment. The level of NO in cells treated with 500 μg/ml of SRM 2786 was 18.33±1.02 μmol/l whereas that of control cells was 1.58±0.31 μmol/l (p < 0.01). When compared with the control group, the level of intracellular ROS increased by 24% after treatment with 500 μg/ml of SRM 2786 (p < 0.05). In addition, LPS pre-treatment may accelerate cell apoptosis by increasing generation of NO and ROS followed by SRM 2786 stimulation. When compared to cells treated with 125 μg/ml of SRM 2786 alone, the levels of NO and ROS in cells pretreated with LPS increased by 28% and 11.6%, respectively (p < 0.05), and the apoptotic rate increased from 34.62±4.44% to 54.11±3.34% (p < 0.01). Conclusions These findings have suggested that in vitro exposure to SRM 2786 could induce 16HBE cells apoptosis probably by means of the mechanism involving the generation of free radicals, while the degree of apoptosis would be further aggravated under inflammation condition. Artykuł przedstawia problematykę związku zasady proporcjonalności i indywidualizacji kary z metodą obliczania wysokości nakładanych na przedsiębiorców kar pieniężnych za naruszenie przepisów prawa konkurencji, na podstawie artykułu 106 ustawy o ochronie konkurencji i konsumentów. Zgodnie z przyjętym ugruntowanym orzecznictwem TSUE, przy określaniu kwoty bazowej do obliczenia wysokości nałożonej kary, możliwe jest przyjęcie rozwiązania, które uwzględnia zarówno całkowity obrót osiągany przez przedsiębiorstwo wskazujący na jego siłę rynkową, jak i część danego obrotu, pochodzącą ze sprzedaży produktów objętych naruszeniem, która wskazuje na zakres naruszenia. Zgodnie z orzecznictwem TSUE, chociaż art. 23 ust. 2 rozporządzenia nr 1/2003 pozostawia Komisji szeroki zakres uznania, to jednak ogranicza on możliwość korzystania z niego, określając obiektywne kryteria, które Komisja jest zobowiązana stosować. Prezes Urzędu Ochrony Konkurencji i Konsumentów w swojej dotychczasowej praktyce decyzyjnej przy obliczaniu wartości nakładanej na przedsiębiorstwo kary brał pod uwagę cały obrót osiągnięty przez przedsiębiorcę w roku poprzedzającym rok nałożenia kary, niemiej jednak metoda ta wiązała się w wielu przypadkach z niezasadną wielkością nałożonej kary, która w postępowaniu odwoławczym przed sądem powszechnym była wielokrotnie zmniejszana. W tym zakresie Sądy niejednokrotnie wskazywały na potrzebę respektowania zasady proporcjonalności i indywidualizacji kary poprzez odniesienie kwoty bazowej nakładanej na przedsiębiorstwo kary do wielkości przychodu przedsiębiorcy uzyskanego ze sprzedaży dóbr lub usług z segmentu rynku objętego zakazaną praktyką.
This paper analyses the compatibility with the principle of proportionality and the principle of fine individualisation of the fine calculation methodology used under Article 106 of the Polish Competition and Consumer Protection Act. According to established CJEU jurisprudence, when calculating a fine it is possible to refer to either the company’s entire turnover, which indicates the company’s market power, or to the amount gained from sales of products covered by the infringement. It is apparent from CJEU jurisprudence that although Article 23(2) of Regulation No. 1/2003 leaves the Commission discretion as to setting the amount of fines, it nevertheless also limits the exercise of that discretion by establishing objective criteria to which the Commission must adhere. Hence, the amount of a competition law fine is subject to a quantifiable and absolute ceiling in the EU, with the result being that the its maximum amount can be determined in advance. The exercise of that discretion is also limited by the rules of conduct which the Commission imposed upon itself, in particular in the 2006 Guidelines. Point 13 of the 2006 Guidelines states, ‘[i]n determining the basic amount of the fine to be imposed, the Commission will take the value of the undertaking’s sales of goods or services to which the infringement directly or indirectly… relates in the relevant geographic area within the EEA’. By contrast, the UOKiK President in his/her decision-making practice calculates the fine by taking into account a company’s entire turnover from the preceding financial year. This methodology often results in unreasonably high fines that are challenged and later reduced by the courts. Judges frequently state that in light of the principle of proportionality and individualization of fines, there is a need when setting individual fines to refer solely to that undertaking’s revenue from the sale of the goods or services from the relevant market covered by the anticompetitive practice.

Artykuł analizuje pojęcie sztuki żydowskiej w zapisach krytyki dwudziestolecia międzywojennego w Polsce. Rozważania o sztuce żydowskiej, dyskusje o znaczeniu sztuk pięknych dla społeczności żydowskiej w diasporze oraz roli, jaka przypadła im w budowaniu nowego narodowego uniwersum wizualnego Żydów europejskich rozpoczęły się w przededniu I wojny światowej. W niepodległej Polsce kontynuowano dyskusje o kierunkach rozwoju narodowej kultury, zarówno w kontekście niezależnego, autonomicznego życia żydowskiego, jak i relacji między kulturą polską, kulturą dominująca a peryferyjną w kontekście państwa kulturą żydowską. Na przykładzie otwartego 20 maja 1928 roku Salonu Wiosennego Żydowskiego Towarzystwa Krzewienia Sztuk Pięknych (ŻTKSP) widzimy, że polska krytyka artystyczna nie tylko dopiero w połowie lat dwudziestych XX wielu. dostrzegła istnienie sztuki żydowskiej, ale i nie zdawała sobie sprawy ze znaczenia ideowego konstruktu sztuki żydowskiej dla żydowskiej społeczności. Równie niewielu krytyków zdawało sobie sprawę z doniosłości istnienia odrębnej, żydowskiej instytucji artystycznej, jaką było ŻTKSP i roli Towarzystwa w rozwoju żydowskiego życia artystycznego.
This paper discusses the notion of Jewish art in Poland in the interwar period. Although in the Jewish cultural milieu discussion of how to define Jewish art started at the beginning of 20th century, Polish art critics realized the very existence of Jewish art as an independent phenomenon only in the late twenties. The first part of the article analyses the reviews of the Spring Salon of the Jewish Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts [Polish abbr. ŻTKSP], opened in Warsaw in May 1928. The Spring Salon is a good illustration of the diverse approaches to the idea of Jewish art as well as of the participation of Jewish artists in Polish art. The subsequent part of the article concludes that for the Jewish cultural circles in interwar Poland the most important goal was not to formulate a definition of Jewish art but to question how Jewish art manifests itself as an expression of national culture. All associations dealing with Jewish art, including the largest and most important Jewish artistic exhibitive institution in the interwar period – the Jewish Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts in Warsaw – advocated as their central objective popularising and strengthening Jewish art (without defining it) and providing support to Jewish artists in their fight for existence and free artistic development.

The article presents results of laboratory tests of selected mechanical and physical properties of fine-grained fiber concrete. Tests were conducted on samples with a different degree of reinforcement made on the basis of steel and polypropylene fibers. For the designed concrete mixtures and prepared samples, slump class, shrinkage, compressive and bending strength and water tightness were determined.
W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki badań laboratoryjnych wybranych właściwości mechanicznych i fizycznych fibrobetonów drobnoziarnistych. Badania przeprowadzono na próbkach o różnym stopniu zbrojenia wykonanych na bazie włókien stalowych oraz polipropylenowych. Dla zaprojektowanych mieszanek betonowych oraz wykonanych próbek wyznaczono klasę konsystencji, skurcz, wytrzymałość na ściskanie i zginanie oraz wodoszczelność.

The influence of bentonite dispersion on fine coal flotation was examined to better understand the role of swelling clay in the process of flotation. It was found that the coal flotation recovery was lower with uncontrolled dispersion of bentonite than with controlled dispersion. The detrimental effect was attributed to the increase in slime coating. In the uncontrolled dispersion, the dispersed bentonite platelets formed an extensive card-house structure. The three-dimensional networks increased the slurry viscosity, and caused significant coating of the coal particles, thereby inhibiting particle mobility and bubble-particle attachment. In the controlled dispersion, the bentonite mineral appeared as separate particles with low aspect ratios. The coal particles were partially coated, and the slurry viscosity was lower, resulting in higher flotation recovery. The findings in this study suggested that a practical solution to mitigate the negative impact of swelling clay on flotation would be to maintain high electrolyte levels in the wash water to inhibit clay swelling and dispersion.

In this study, a three-level Box-Behnken design of experiments combined with response surface methodology used to investigate the effects of the feed density, feed pressure and vortex finder diameter on the separation results (ash content and yield of the overflow) of a water-only cyclone. The coal used in the study was supplied from Soma, Turkey and crushed to below 1 mm. Experiments were conducted using a watter-only cyclone (WOC) which was operated in a closed-circuit test rig, overflow and underflow streams were collected and were sieved through 0.1 mm to simulate dewatering screens.The actual data collected from the tests were used to construct the empirical models representing clean coal ash and yield as process responses to the independent variables. The significance test of model fit for clean coal ash and yield were performed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that ash content and yield of the clean coal models were significant.The results showed that with an increase in vortex finder diameter (VFD), feed density (FD) and inlet pressure (IP), ash content and yield of the clean coal increases. The results suggested that all main parameters affected the ash content and yield of the clean coal to some degree. The significance order of the effect of the variables on the ash content and yield was found as FD > VFD > IP and VFD > IP > FD respectively. The results of the numerical optimization in the range of the experimental data showed that it is possible to reduce the ash content of clean coal from 42.21 to 18.89.
W tym badaniu zastosowano trzypoziomowy projekt Box-Behnken eksperymentów w połączeniu z metodologią powierzchni odpowiedzi wykorzystaną do zbadania wpływu gęstości nadawy, ciśnienia nadawy i średnicy wiru na wyniki wzbogacania (zawartość popiołu i uzysk przelewu) w hydrocyklonie. Węgiel użyty w badaniach był dostarczany z Somy w Turcji i rozdrobniony poniżej 1 mm. Eksperymenty przeprowadzono przy użyciu hydrocyklonu (WOC – Water-Only-Cyclone), który pracował na stanowisku badawczym w obiegu zamkniętym, odbierano strumienie z przelewu i wylewu, które przesiewano przez sito o oczku 0,1 mm w celu symulacji procesów odwadniających. Rzeczywiste dane zebrane z testów zostały wykorzystane do budowy modeli empirycznych przedstawiających zawartość popiołu we wzbogaconym w węglu i uzysk tego węgla jako zmienne niezależne. Test istotności dopasowania modelu dla zawartości popiołu we wzbogaconym węglu i uzysku węgla przeprowadzono za pomocą analizy wariancji (ANOVA). Wyniki w modelach wykazały, że zawartość popiołu i uzysk wzbogaconego węgla były znaczące; wraz ze wzrostem średnicy wiru (VFD – Vortex Finder Dimeter), gęstości nadawy (FD – Feed Density) i ciśnienia wlotowego (IP – Inlet Pressure), zawartość popiołu i uzysk wzbogaconego węgla wzrasta. Wyniki sugerowały, że wszystkie główne parametry w pewnym stopniu wpływają na zawartość popiołu i uzysk wzbogaconego węgla. Kolejność istotności wpływu zmiennych na zawartość popiołu i uzysk określono odpowiednio jako FD > VFD > IP i VFD > IP > FD. Wyniki optymalizacji numerycznej w zakresie danych eksperymentalnych wykazały, że możliwe jest zmniejszenie zawartości popiołu we wzbogaconym węglu z 42,21 do 18,89%.

Objectives: The main goal of the study was to assess possible association between fetal exposure to fi ne particulate matter ($\text{PM}_\text{2.5}$) and exhaled carbon monoxide (eCO) measured in non-asthmatic children. Material and Methods: The subjects include 118 children taking part in an ongoing population-based birth cohort study in Kraków. Personal samplers of $\text{PM}_\text{2.5}$ were used to measure fi ne particle mass in the fetal period and carbon monoxide (CO) in exhaled breath from a single exhalation effort at the age of 7. In the statistical analysis of the effect of prenatal $\text{PM}_\text{2.5}$ exposure on eCO, a set of potential confounders, such as environmental tobacco smoke (ETS), city residence area, sensitization to house dust allergens and the occurrence of respiratory symptoms monitored over the seven-year follow-up was considered. Results: The level of eCO did not correlate with the self-reported ETS exposure recorded over the follow-up, however, there was a positive signifi cant relationship with the prenatal $\text{PM}_\text{2.5}$ exposure (non-parametric trend p = 0.042). The eCO mean level was higher in atopic children (geometric mean = 2.06 ppm, 95% CI: 1.58–2.66 ppm) than in non-atopic ones (geometric mean = 1.57 ppm, 95% CI: 1.47–1.73 ppm) and the difference was statistically signifi cant (p = 0.036). As for the respiratory symptoms, eCO values were associated positively only with the cough severity score recorded in the follow-up (nonparametric trend p = 0.057). In the nested multivariable linear regression model, only the effects of prenatal $\text{PM}_\text{2.5}$ and cough severity recorded in the follow-up were related to eCO level. The prenatal $\text{PM}_\text{2.5}$ exposure represented 5.1%, while children’s cough represented only 2.6% of the eCO variability. Conclusion: Our study suggests that elevated eCO in non-asthmatic children may result from oxidative stress experienced in the fetal period and that heme oxygenase (HO) activity in body tissues may be programmed in the fetal period by the exposure to fi ne particulate matter.

Objectives Traffic-related particulate matter (PM) is one of the major sources of air pollution in metropolitan areas. This study is to observe the interactive effects of gene and fine particles (particles smaller than 2.5 μm – $\text{PM}_\text{2.5}$) on the respiratory system and explore the mechanisms linking $\text{PM}_\text{2.5}$ and pulmonary injury. Material and Methods The participants include 110 traffic policemen and 101 common populations in Shanghai, China. Continuous 24 h individual-level $\text{PM}_\text{2.5}$ is detected and the pulmonary function, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), Clara cell protein 16 (CC16) and the polymorphism in CXCL3, NME7 and C5 genes are determined. The multiple linear regression method is used to analyze the association between $\text{PM}_\text{2.5}$ and health effects. Meanwhile, the interactive effects of gene and $\text{PM}_\text{2.5}$ on lung function are analyzed. Results The individual $\text{PM}_\text{2.5}$ exposure for traffic policemen was higher than that in the common population whereas the forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV₁), the ratio of FEV₁ to forced vital capacity (FEV₁/FVC) and lymphocytes are lower. In contrast, the hs-CRP level is higher. In the adjusted analysis, $\text{PM}_\text{2.5}$ exposure was associated with the decrease in lymphocytes and the increase in hs-CRP. The allele frequencies for NME7 and C5 have significant differences between FEV₁/FVC ≤ 70% and FEV₁/FVC > 70% participants. The results didn’t find the interaction effects of gene and $\text{PM}_\text{2.5}$ on FEV₁/FVC in all the 3 genes. Conclusions The results indicated that traffic exposure to high levels of $\text{PM}_\text{2.5}$ was associated with systemic inflammatory response and respiratory injury. Traffic policemen represent a high risk group suffering from the respiratory injury.

In this research, the effect of different sources of process water on the flotation efficiency of copper sulfide ore prepared from the Sarcheshmeh copper mine was investigated. For this purpose, samples of fresh water to the plant, overflows of copper-molybdenum concentrate thickener, copper concentrate thickener, and recycled water pool as well as a mixture of fresh water and recycled water were prepared and characterized. Flotation tests were performed under the same conditions as the plant’s rougher circuit and were kept constant during all experiments. Grade and recovery of copper, iron, molybdenum, and silica were selected as the metallurgical response of flotation tests. The results were subjected to statistical analysis to assess the relative significance of which water source affects the flotation performance as evaluated from the experimental results. The results showed that the copper concentrate thickener overflow had the greatest effect on the flotation efficiency, so the grade and recovery decreased by about 10% and 75% for copper, and 10% and 6% for iron in the concentrate, respectively, while the grade and recovery increased up to 0.1% and 12% for silica, and 3% and 25% for molybdenum, respectively. The reason for this effect was attributed to the high content of suspended solid particles, and Cu2+, Mo2+, and Fe2+ cations in this water source that increased the coating effect over gangue minerals and entrainment rate. The improvement of molybdenum flotation was also ascribed to the possible presence of residual diesel oil from the flotation process in the plant. Due to the relatively equal amount in all sources of process water, the effect of anions and ions of dissolved salts was difficult.

Opis:
Handwritten script recognition is a vital application of the machine-learning domain. Applications like automatic license plate detection, pin-code detection, and historical document management increases attention toward handwritten script recognition. English is the most widely spoken language in India; hence, there has been a lot of research into identifying a script using a machine. Devanagari is a popular script that is used by a large number of people on the Indian subcontinent. In this paper, a level-wised efficient transfer-learning approach is presented on the VGG16 model of a convolutional neural network (CNN) for identifying isolated Devanagari handwritten characters. In this work, a new dataset of Devanagari characters is presented and made accessible to the public. This newly created dataset is comprised of 5800 samples for 12 vowels, 36 consonants, and 10 digits. Initially, a simple CNN is implemented and trained on this new small dataset. During the next stage, a transfer-learning approach is implemented on the VGG16 model, and during the last stage, the efficient fine-tuned VGG16 model is implemented. The obtained accuracy of the fine-tuned model’s training and testing came to 98.16% and 96.47%, respectively.

Opis:
Historiography about the medieval Bosnian Church is a vast and complicated labyrinth, with many different sections and subsections regarding its teachings, where authors are least likely to find a compromise, or some common ground. Very often, the ruling ideologies have intertwined their interests and influences in this field of medieval study, causing the emergence of very intense emotions in wider circles of population. One remarkable episode in history of research and study of the Bosnian Church is the occurrence of medievalist from United States of America, John V. A. Fine Jr., who arrived in Bosnia and Yugoslavia at the peak of the Cold War. Fine proved to be a very meticulous researcher, who produced a book under the title: The Bosnian Church: A New Interpretation. A Study of the Bosnian Church and its Place in State and Society from the 13th to the 15th Centuries which immediately caused disturbance and wide range of reactions. With his aligning with the historiographical stream which doesn’t see the Bosnian Church as a dualistic heretical institution, rather a monastic community independent from both of the big churches of the time, Fine gave additional fuel to this theory, a theory somewhat weakened in that period as its main protagonist Jaroslav Šidak had a change of mind. The main goal of this paper is to study the immediate reactions on Fine’s thesis, in forms of reviews of his book, as well its influence in the subsequent decades of the historiographical studies of the Bosnian Church.

Polish press of the 19th century analyzed many aspects of British culture, art included. In the opinion of Polish critics, British art was, first of all, inferior to French art and, what is more, to other achievements of Great Britain as a country. It was criticized for aesthetic worthlessness and presented as utilitarian for British culture. However, with time, thanks to more in-depth analysis of selected strands of British art (e.g., Aestheticism, Pre-Raphaelites), the Polish approach towards it improved and British art was used not only to demonstrate its close ties with Polish art, but also to justify the protection of Poland in the process of devel-opment as an independent country.

The paper demonstrates the applicability of X-ray microtomography (μCT) to analysis of the results of shear strength examinations of clayey soils. The method of X-ray three-dimensional imaging offers new possibilities in soil testing. The work focuses on a non-destructive method of evaluation of specimen quality used in shear tests and mechanical behavior of soil. The paper presents the results of examination of 4 selected clayey soils. Specimens prepared for the triaxial test have been scanned using μCT before and after the triaxial compression tests. The shear strength parameters of the soils have been estimated. Changes in soil structure caused by compression and shear failure have been presented as visualizations of the samples tested. This allowed for improved interpretation and evaluation of soil strength parameters and recognition of pre-existing fissures and the exact mode of failure. Basic geometrical parameters have been determined for selected cross-sections of specimens after failure. The test results indicate the utility of the method applied in soil testing.

The text focuses on Janusz Orbitowski, a Krakow-based painter of geometric abstraction, and on his teaching methods at the Academy of Fine Arts. This discussion is combined with interpretation of his works. Orbitowski’s distance to the academic milieu and his quiet teaching of traditional nude drawing are presented as a contrast to his openness and “energetic” lifestyle among friends, as well as to the distinct expressiveness found in his works. The text suggests that the paradoxical duality of silent invisibility, concealed by expression, could lead the artist and his students as well as the viewers of his art to a variety of cognitive experiences, including metaphysical cognition.

The work shows the possibilities of obtaining ultrafine-grained ferrite-pearlite and ferrite-bainite structures in the process of controlled rolling of sheet metal using immediate accelerated cooling after the final pass. Low-carbon steel without micro-alloy additives was analyzed. The analysis was conducted using the Gleeble 3800 device with Hydrawedge II MCU module which enabled a multiple cycle of fast compression of the material. During the test, 10×15×20 mm rectangular parallelepiped specimens were deformed in flat anvils gaining the flat state of deformation in the zone of compression. Then the influence of the used scheme of deformation, cooling rate, time of break between the last deformation and the beginning of the accelerated cooling was analyzed as well as the temperature at the end of accelerated cooling of the structure and the mechanical properties of the final item.
W pracy przedstawiono możliwości uzyskiwania superdrobnoziarnistych struktur ferrytyczno-perlitycznych i ferrytyczno-bainitycznych w procesie regulowanego walcowania blach grubych z zastosowaniem bezpośredniego przyspieszonego chłodzenia po ostatnim przepuście. Analizie poddano niskowęglową stal, która nie zawiera dodatków mikrostopowych. Badania prowadzono za pomocą urządzenia Gleeble 3800 z przystawką Hydrawedge II MCU, które umożliwia wykonywanie wielokrotnych szybkich cykli ściskania materiału. Podczas badań odkształcano prostopadłościenne próbki o wymiarach 10×15×20 mm w płaskich kowadłach, uzyskując płaski stan odkształcenia w strefie ściskania. Analizowano wpływ zastosowanego schematu odkształceń, szybkości chłodzenia, czasu przerwy pomiędzy ostatnim odkształceniem i początkiem przyspieszonego chłodzenia oraz temperatury końca przyspieszonego chłodzenia na strukturę i własności mechaniczne uzyskanego wyrobu.

Froth flotation is one of the main methods for processing of phosphate ores. However, flotation of fine particles, especially phosphate ores, has always been one of the fundamental problems. For example, about 10% of Esfordi phosphate processing plant ore with a grade of more than 16% P2O5 and d80 of less than 30 μm is sent to the tailing dam. Flotation using nanobubbles generated by hydrodynamic cavitation is one of the latest industrial techniques to recycle fine particles of minerals. A significant recovery increment in flotation of fine particles using nanobubbles has been one of the main topics of flotation science in recent years. Fine bubbles have important effects on the gas holdup, which is necessary in the froth flotation cell of mineral based process industries. At a given gas holdup, using finer bubbles can reduce frother consumption. An exclusive nanobubble generation system has been developed at Iran Mineral Processing Research Center (IMPRC) for evaluating the effect of nanobubbles on froth flotation. This device enhances venturi tubes and works based on cavitation phenomena. In this study, a comparison of conventional flotation and nanobubble enhanced flotation in mechanical cells was carried out on two types of phosphate ore samples. As a result, the flotation recovery had a significant increment of more than 30% in the case of using nanobubbles versus conventional flotation in the same grade of P2O5.

This work analyses the basic problems of the fine particles flotation and suggests new ways to overcome them. It is well accepted that the poor recovery of fine particles is due to the small collision rate between them and the bubbles due to the significant difference between their sizes. This common opinion is based on a theory, assuming in its first version a laminar regime, but later has been advanced to intermediate turbulence. It accepts that the particles are driven by the streamlines near the bubbles. In reality, the high turbulence in the flotation cells causes myriads of eddies with different sizes and speeds of the rotation driving both bubbles and particles. Yet, a theory accounting for high turbulence exists and states that the collision rate could be much higher. Therefore, we assumed that the problem consists of the low attachment efficiency of the fine particles. Basically, two problems could exist (i) to form a three-phase contact line (TPCL) the fine particle should achieve a certain minimal penetration into the bubble, requiring sufficient push force; (ii) a thin wetting film between the bubble and the particle forms, thus increasing the hydrodynamic resistance between them and making the induction time larger than the collision time. We assumed particles with contact angle θ = 80°, and established a lower size flotation limit of the particles depending mostly on the size of the bubbles, with which they collide. It spans in the range of Rp = 0.16 um to Rp = 0.40 um corresponding to bubbles size range of Rb = 50 um to Rb = 1000 um. Hence, thermodynamically the particle size fraction in the range of Rp = 0.2 um to Rp = 2 um are permitted to float but with small flotation rate due to the small difference between the total push force and maximal resistance force for formation of TPCL. The larger particles approach slowly the bubbles, thus exceeding the collision time. Therefore, most possibly the cavitation of the dissolved gas is the reason for their attachment to the bubbles. To help fine particles float better, the electrostatic attraction between bubbles and particles occurred and achieved about 92% recovery of fine silica particles for about 100 sec. The procedure increased moderately their hydrophobicity from θ ≈ 27.4° to θ ≈ 54.5°. Electrostatic attraction between bubbles and particles with practically no increase of the hydrophobicity of the silica particles ended in 47% recovery. All this is an indication of the high collision rate of the fine particles with the bubbles. Consequently, both, an increase in the hydrophobicity and the electrostatic attraction between particles and bubbles are key for good fine particle flotation. In addition, it was shown experimentally that the capillary pressure during collision affected significantly the attachment efficiency of the particles to the bubbles.

A 63-year-old female patient was admitted to the hospital for an in-depth diagnosis of accidentally found pancreatic cystic lesion. The lesion was detected by computed tomography scan and magnetic resonance imaging of the abdomen and identified as potentially malignant mucinous cystic neoplasm (MCN). Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy with the analysis of the fluid from the cyst was performed as well and it confirmed the malignancy of the cystic lesion. The patient was qualified for surgery and the final diagnosis based on histopathological examination of the surgical material confirmed MCN with the accompanying invasive pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

Opis:
The article analyzes the artistic interpretations of objects of architectural heritage from paintings and graphics, as the basis for the formation of the modern image of the city.
W artykule przeanalizowano artystyczne interpretacje obiektów dziedzictwa architektonicznego (przedstawione w malarstwie i grafice), które są podstawą kształtowania nowoczesnego wizerunku miasta. Pokazano, że współczesny wizerunek miasta jest połączeniem „ducha miejsca” i „ducha czasu” i kształtuje się w kontekście dualizmu kulturowej uniwersalizacji i dążenia społeczności lokalnych do zachowania historycznej tożsamości krajobrazu miejskego. Opisano następujące metody odtwarzania dziedzictwa architektonicznego jako podstawy obrazu miasta przez artystów: utrata indywidualności i „zanikanie” fragmentów miejskiej rzeczywistości; międzykulturowy i międzyetniczny dialog „starego i nowego” („mozaika”, „kompozycja”) oraz „życie małego miasta w dużym” („stare miasto”, „fantazje o przeszłości”).

Opis:
Przedstawiono wyniki pomiarów walcowej próbki pobranej z bulwy ziemniaka poddanej osiowemu ściskaniu. Wyznaczono podstawowe właściwości wytrzymałościowe materiału próbki, a następnie zbudowano model dyskretny procesu ściskania osiowego próbki. Zbudowany model poddano weryfikacji oraz wyznaczono warstwice przemieszczeń z uwzględnieniem tarcia pomiędzy powierzchnią próbki i elementu obciążającego. Otrzymano dobrą zgodność wyników doświadczalnych oraz uzyskanych w oparciu o model MES. Badania wykazały, że wpływ tarcia na wartość uzyskanych wyników ma istotne znaczenie tylko w strefie styku próbki z elementami roboczymi urządzenia obciążającego.
The measurements results of the cylinder sample of a potato tuber subjected to an axial compression were presented. Basic strength properties of the sample material were determined and a discrete model of the axial compression process of the sample was formed. The model was verified and a displacement contour line was determined including friction between the sample's surface and the loading element. Good compliance of the experimental results and the results obtained on the basis of the FEM. The research proved that the influence of friction on the value of the obtained results has a considerable meaning not only in the contact zone of the sample with working elements of a loading device.

A cyclonic-static micro-bubble flotation column was applied to upgrade fine ilmenite. The optimum parameters of flotation in the column were determined basing on the grade-recovery upgrading curve. A continuous pilot plant test was conducted using the optimum parameters during rougher-cleaner process. When compared with the optimized parameters of the industrial flotation machines, the cyclonic-static micro-bubble flotation column provides higher concentrate grade and recovery: 48.11% with a growth of 1.08 percentage points and 82.36% with an increment of 13.64 percentage points, respectively. Moreover, the flowsheet is simplified to two steps (rougher-cleaner) in the cyclonic-static micro-bubble flotation column from six steps (one rougher-two scavengers-three cleaners) in the flotation machines. Therefore, the cyclonic-static micro-bubble flotation column is an effective tool for fine ilmenite beneficiation.

Opis:
The investigation of surface modification of Egyptian calcium carbonate via polymers was achieved with simultaneous ultra-fine grinding. Attrition mill and planetary mill were used for wet and dry grinding, respectively. The parameters affecting the grinding were studied such as ball number, speed and grinding time. The rheological characteristics of the aqueous calcium carbonate suspensions were studied in the presence of different types of polymers. The results indicated that the mechanical force could clearly affect the modification characteristics of calcium carbonate due to its mechanochemical effects. The viscosity of calcium carbonate suspension depends on the volume percentage or weight percentage. The dispersing agent increases the solid concentration for a given particle fineness.
