Opis:
The hydrophilic films based on starch and carboxymethyl starch (CMS) were obtained using cast method. The effect of CMS content on the physicochemical properties of prepared films were evaluated. With increasing content of starch derivative the moisture absorption, solubility in water as well as swelling ratio increased. The highest values of mechanical parameters (tensile strength and Young’s modulus) were determined for the starch/CMS film containing the lowest CMS amount, i.e. 10 wt.% (1.1 MPa, 15 MPa, respectively). For the same system the lowest moisture absorption, solubility in water as well as swelling ratio were reported. Thus, it could be concluded that for this system the highest crosslinking density has been achieved, what was confirmed by DMTA results. Such a film could potentially find application in food or agricultural industry.

Opis:
One of the most important problems with regard to the Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) gas sensors technology is the deposition of chemosensitive films exhibiting desirable chemical and physical properties. The electrospraying technology seems to be a very promising method of the film deposition in this case. It allows the chemosensitive layers to be obtained out of almost any chemicals and their mixtures in a controllable way. The process gives the possibility to generate specific films with properties unattainable if other methods were to be applied. For example, it allows to deposit solutions of polymers and suspensions of solids in polymer solutions which can degrade in the process of thermal evaporation deposition. The paper describes the results of experiments with electrospraying technique in order to obtain Nafion® films. The influence of the process parameters on film sensitivity has been studied.

The influence was studied of potato and wheat starch irradiation on physicochemical properties of films, prepared using either starch alone or a composition of potato starch with three surfactants: sodium laurate, sodium palmitate and cetyl-trimethyl-ammonium bromide (CTAB). The surfactants were introduced at a level of 0.038 division sign 0.075 g per 1 g of starch. This corresponds to 0.136–0.222 mmol/g, depending on the surfactant type and its amount used. Irradiations were carried out using 60Co radiation with doses of 5, 10, 20 and 30 kGy. Films were prepared with addition of glycerol (0, 20 or 30% in terms of starch mass) by means of casting from the gelatinized starch or starch-surfactant solutions. With the purpose to characterize the films, mechanical tests (using an Instron instrument) and the wetting angle measurements were performed. The effect was determined of the storage and conditioning in an atmosphere characterized by the various moisture content on the properties of films with various compositions. The results show the radiation-induced improvement of hydrophobic properties of the films prepared using potato and wheat starch, and the selected potato starch-surfactant compositions. Improvement of strength and flexibility was obtained in the case of potato starch films, while in the case of wheat starch films the increase of strength was accompanied by a decrease in flexibility. Improvement of the functional properties of potato starch films corresponds to the improvement of their structural properties, found by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The possibilities of modification of the films properties by modification of composition and radiation treatment were discussed.

Autobiographical threads occupy an important place in films of Marian Marzyński and Leszek Leo Kantor. Interesting is the convergence of life experiences common to both authors. We can indicate a lot of parallelisms in biographies of both directors. Certainly, the most important analogy is the fact that both of them survived the Holocaust as children. Common to both artists is also experience of anti-Semitic campaign of March 1968, as a result of which they were forced to emigrate from Poland. The objective of this article is to demonstrate how this personal experience of exile resonates in their work.

The article deals with the relation between films and the concept of the national identity. These issues are discussed on the example of Serbian cinema in the 1990s. Using Anthony Smith’s approach to the visual representation of national identity, the ways in which films in Serbia construct national identity is discussed. After that, several films are analyzed that critically question the concept of nationalism. This analysis demonstrates how ideology, in this particular case, nationalistic ideology, at the semantic level can be related to films, one of the most influential segments of popular culture.

The present paper relates to water-borne polyurethane pressure-sensitive adhesives (PU-PSA) systems for self-adhesive protective films, and methods of their preparation. The typical protective films are self-adhesive films with excellent removability. Their manufacture is a film conversion process using common materials developed for the packaging industry (PVC and polyolefins). The most often used carrier for the constructions of protective films is PE. Polyurethane PSA layers are characterized by constant low peel adhesion between 3 and 5 N/2,5 cm.

Opis:
The activation process and the transport process for electrons in the tetracene layers and holes in the p-quaterphenyl layers is considered. Observed dependence of the conductivity on the vapor concentration of the activator molecules may suggests influence of collisions as a source of injection of charge through the surface potential barrier of adsorption. Applied model of two-body interactions in the interface of adsorption is approved on the basis of theory of area law for entanglement from exponential decay of correlations. Quantum description of adsorption of small hydrocarbon to the solid acenes involve only diagonal elements of the interaction matrix.
Badano proces aktywacji i proces transportu elektronów w warstwach tetracenu i p-kwaterfenylu. Zależność procesów przewodnictwa od chwilowej wartości stężenia par aktywatora sugeruje wzrost natężenia prądu związanego z adsorpcją jako wynik procesów dwuciałowych zderzeń z wstrzykiwaniem nośników ładunku do warstwy. Słuszność takiego modelu uzasadnia twierdzenie o powierzchniowym charakterze oddziaływań wynikającym z teorii eksponencjalnego zaniku korelacji [9]. Teoretyczna analiza procesu adsorpcji węglowodoru na powierzchni pierścieniowego acenu nie wymaga znajomości wyrazów mieszanych macierzy przejścia. Powinno to prowadzić do znacznego uproszczenia procedury obliczania parametrów modelu oddziaływań.

This work reports results from comparative Mossbauer studies of as-deposited and annealed Fe100.xGax (10 less - than or equal to x less - than or equal to 35) high magnetostrictive thin films of constant thickness (50 plus or minus 2 nm). Films were grown on Si(100) substrates using a co-sputtering and evaporation chamber where Fe has been sputtered and Ga was evaporated. During growth of films, a magnetic field of 65 kA/m has been applied in the plane of the film. Annealed films have been obtained by heating in vacuum for 1 h at 350 centigrade without magnetic field. After annealing, the saturation field of the Fe-Ga films has been significantly reduced. By means of the 57Fe CEMS technique the contributions from several phases have been found: Fe-Ga A2 (bcc), traces of DO3 phase, a gallium-rich disordered phase and iron oxides (both geothite and magnetite). For the sample with x = 26.5 the heat treatment reduces the DO3 phase content whereas for the film with x = 16.4 the opposite tendency has been observed. Mossbauer results were compared with XRD and MOKE findings.

Cadmium Sulphide (CdS) thin films are produced using spray pyrolysis deposition technique. Films are annealed in air at 400, 500, and 600 K of 1 h. It characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) and optical properties of CdS. XRD shows that these films are polycrystalline in nature with cubic and hexagonal crystalline structure. The crystallite size, microstrain, and dislocation density were measured. AFM shows that the total substrate surface is finely covered with uniformly distributed spherical shaped grains. Optical transmittance was shown that direct transition with band gap energy was decreased between 2.44 to 2.27 eV with annealing.

Four binary polymer -solvent systems, poly(styrene)-tetrahydrofuran, poly(styrene) - p-xylene, poly(methyl methacrylate) - ethylbenzene and poly(methyl methacrylate) - tetrahydrofuran, systems have been studied. It has been observed that thicker coatings will retain a higher amount of the residual solvent as compared to thinner coatings. In the case of poly(styrene)-tetrahydrofuran coating residual solvent remaining within the coatings were 9.09% and 4.74% for the coatings of the thicknesses of 967 micron and 559 micron, respectively. Similar trends were also observed in the case of poly(methyl methacrylate)-ethylbenzene, poly(methyl methacrylate)-tetrahydrofuran, and poly(styrene)-p-xylene systems.

An optical fluorescent sensor based on a chitosan thin film co-doped with Eu3+ and a bromothymol blue pH indicator has been developed. Near-UV to visible (350–400 nm) excitation of the europium (III) chelate complexes with 1,3-diphenyl-1,3-propanedione exhibits a typical lanthanide emission with maximum at 618 nm. Luminescent spectra of the Eu3+ complex were found to be insensitive to the presence of methylamine gas. Therefore, bromothymol blue, a non-fluorescent pH indicator with an absorbance maximum of deprotonated form close to the Eu3+ emission band was added to the film to provide a non-fluorescent reversible response to different methylamine concentrations, which can be detected by measuring the Eu3+ emission.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the surface microstructure of chitosan films on the contact angle. Films without plasticising additives made of chitosan or regenerated chitosan were selected for the tests. A sessile drop method based on the European Pharmacopoeia was used to determine the contact angle. Due to the method of film production, the contact angle measurements were made on both the top and bottom surfaces of the film. For chitosan or regenerated chitosan films, the method of preparation slightly affected the difference in wettability between the top and bottom of the films, as confirmed by scanning electron microscopy. On the other hand, the wettability of the top and bottom of cellulose films varied greatly depending on the side of the film. Both chitosan and cellulose films had a homogeneous structure. There were differences in the microstructure between the top and the bottom of the sample in the cellulose film, a factor that affected the contact angle and thus the wettability of the surface.
