Opis:
This paper describes the Phase II results of qualitative research involving design teams of primary school second-graders divided as follows: designers (D) – the creators of a solution; clients (C) and executors (E) – helping to improve the project. The study aimed to observe and describe what questions and feedback stimulated new idea generation to improve the initial solution, addressing the following research question: What does a constructive dialogue between peers look like when developing a group project? The adopted research approach was based on educational team design (the case study method). Based on observations and peer conversations, the authors determined the conditions that facilitated constructive dialogue, and those that hindered the accomplishment of the group work in question.

This paper reports on two ways in which success and failure can be operationalized and quantified in a non-institutional L2 learning context such as language tandem setting. We draw on the SITAF database, where we gathered 25 hours of video-recorded conversations held by 21 pairs, each consisting of a native speaker of English and a native speaker of French. The tandems performed collaborative tasks in both languages, thus giving each participant ample opportunity to be both the ‘expert’ and the ‘novice’ (learner) part of the dialogue. The tandem partners met regularly and autonomously outside of the recording sessions, and making progress in their L2 was one of their declared goals. Two possible measures of success in achieving this goal are: (1) the quality and quantity of learner uptake which followed the expert’s corrective feedback (CF) during the recorded conversations. Significant differences between the two L1 groups were observed: while 52% of the CF given by the native French speakers met with total uptake, over 52% of the English CF generated no uptake at all; (2) the participants’ own narratives of progress, as both the experts and the learners, obtained through questionnaires they filled out at the end of the program. Our study aims to contribute to the discussion on the stakes of successful L2 informal learning (with a focus on the acquisition of L2 pronunciation) by adopting a perspective which combines learners’ spoken output data and learners’ perceptions of their own language learning activity.

Sentiment analysis is an efficient technique for expressing users’ opinions (neutral, negative or positive) regarding specific services or products. One of the important benefits of analyzing sentiment is in appraising the comments that users provide or service providers or services. In this work, a solution known as adaptive rider feedback artificial tree optimization-based deep neuro-fuzzy network (RFATO-based DNFN) is implemented for efficient sentiment grade classification. Here, the input is pre-processed by employing the process of stemming and stop word removal. Then, important factors, e.g. SentiWordNet-based features, such as the mean value, variance, as well as kurtosis, spam word-based features, term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) features and emoticon-based features, are extracted. In addition, angular similarity and the decision tree model are employed for grouping the reviewed data into specific sets. Next, the deep neuro-fuzzy network (DNFN) classifier is used to classify the sentiment grade. The proposed adaptive rider feedback artificial tree optimization (A-RFATO) approach is utilized for the training of DNFN. The A-RFATO technique is a combination of the feedback artificial tree (FAT) approach and the rider optimization algorithm (ROA) with an adaptive concept. The effectiveness of the proposed A-RFATO-based DNFN model is evaluated based on such metrics as sensitivity, accuracy, specificity, and precision. The sentiment grade classification method developed achieves better sensitivity, accuracy, specificity, and precision rates when compared with existing approaches based on Large Movie Review Dataset, Datafiniti Product Database, and Amazon reviews.

Learners’ beliefs on language learning and perceived self-efficacy are important to the success of their second/foreign language (SL/FL) learning. To reveal the general profiles of and relationship between Chinese students’ beliefs about English learning and self-efficacy, the present study examined beliefs about English learning and self-efficacy held by Chinese university EFL (English as a FL) learners at differing English proficiency levels. A total of 1,698 students from a top university in Beijing answered a battery of questionnaires. The results revealed a general overview of the students’ beliefs about the nature of language learning and the roles of teachers, feedback and learning strategies, and self-efficacy. Another major finding was that participants at different English proficiency levels differed significantly from one another in beliefs about language learning and self-efficacy.

Opis:
Many interconnected systems in the real world, such as power systems and chemical processes, are often composed of subsystems. A decentralized controller is suitable for an interconnected system because of its more practical and accessible implementation. We use the homotopy method to compute a decentralized controller. Since the centralized controller constitutes the starting point for the method, its existence becomes very important. This paper introduces a non-singular matrix and a design parameter to generate a centralized controller. If the initial centralized controller fails, we can change the value of the design parameter to generate a new centralized controller. A sufficient condition for a decentralized controller is given as a bilinear matrix inequality with three matrix variables: a controller gain matrix and a pair of other matrix variables. Finally, we present numerical examples to validate the proposed decentralized controller design method.

This study aims to explore teachers’ peer feedback behaviour in online teaching practice classes. Qualitative research was conducted on 32 physics teachers who conducted a teacher professional curriculum. Data were gathered through interviews, observations, and online discourse archives. Six steps were taken in analysing the data: preparing and organising data, exploring data, developing themes, representing findings, interpreting findings, and validating the accuracy of the findings. The results showed that peer feedback behaviour focused on learning design content and teachers’ performance. Peer feedback connects teachers’ ideas with those of their colleagues, open-mindedness, and encourages reflective thinking. This study realises peer feedback is a mutual dialogue to enhance teachers’ pedagogical competence in teacher professional curricula.

The second part of the article “Feedback: an attempt to map the phenomenon”. The first one, published in issue 174 of Didaskalia, is an attempt to systematize knowledge on the theory of feedback and to indicate it as a tool to support, organize and discipline the process of creative work and artistic education. In the second part published below, the author creates a feedback toolbox, discussing possible methods and structures of feedback developed by the business, artistic education and individual creative practices of people working both in Poland and in other European countries and in the United States of America. Mira Mańka puts her reflections on feedback in two contexts: interdisciplinary knowledge in the field of psychology, sociology, education, theory and practice of business, and lived knowledge resulting from going through the university and artistic path of education in Poland. Referring to her own work and the experiences of other creators, she constructs an author’s and open selection of reflections, recommendations and directions for the development of feedback, both in the perspectives of Polish theater pedagogy and individual artistic practice.

Opis:
This paper presents the experimental results of a new proof mass actuator for the implementation of velocity feedback control loops to reduce the flexural vibration of a thin plate structure. Classical proof mass actuators are formed by coil–magnet linear motors. These actuators can generate constant force at frequencies above the fundamental resonance frequency of the spring–magnet system, which can be used to efficiently implement point velocity feedback control loops. However, the dynamics of the spring–magnet system limit the stability and control performance of the loops when the actuators are exposed to shocks. The proof mass actuator investigated in this paper includes an additional flywheel element that improves the stability of the velocity feedback loop both by increasing the feedback gain margin and by reducing the fundamental resonance frequency of the actuator. This paper is focused on the stability and control performance of decentralized velocity feedback control loops.

We study the scalar difference equation $ x(k+1)=x(k)+\frac{f(x(k-N))}{N} $ where f is nonincreasing with negative feedback. This equation is a discretization of the well-studied differential delay equation $ x′(t) = f(x(t − 1)). $ We examine explicit families of such equations for which we can find, for infinitely many values of N and appropriate parameter values, various dynamical behaviors including periodic solutions with large numbers of sign changes per minimal period, solutions that do not converge to periodic solutions, and chaos. We contrast these behaviors with the dynamics of the limiting differential equation. Our primary tool is the analysis of return maps for the difference equations that are conjugate to continuous self-maps of the circle.

This paper focuses on the global practical Mittag-Leffler feedback stabilization problem for a class of uncertain fractional-order systems. This class of systems is a larger class of nonlinearities than the Lipschitz ones. Based on the quasi-one-sided Lipschitz condition, firstly, we provide sufficient conditions for the practical observer design. Then, we exhibit that practical Mittag-Leffler stability of the closed loop system with a linear, state feedback is attained. Finally, a separation principle is established and we prove that the closed loop system is practical Mittag-Leffler stable.

An embedded microring resonator model using PtS2 as the core layer was designed and optimized for sensing. The inner layer is made of PtS2, and SiO2 and Si3N4 are used as cladding. The overall structure is Si3N4-SiO2-PtS2-SiO2-Si3N4. Field strength distribution of longitudinal section of single straight waveguide and the longitudinal section of coupling part of straight and annular waveguides are simulated according to the coupled-mode theory. The transfer matrix method is used to analyze characteristics between the length of the U-shaped feedback waveguide and the circumference of microring and the change of attenuation factor and coupling coefficient on the output spectrum. The simulation results showed that the embedded microring resonator with PtS2 as the core presents excellent optical properties. The resonance depth is more than –50 dB, and the sensitivity can reach 1806.61 dB/RIU. When the resonance wavelength is 1550.86 nm and the self-coupling coefficient is 0.9849. The corresponding detection limit is about 1.66056×10–7 dB/RIU, and the quality factor is 2.8848×10–5 under the measurement system with a signal-to-noise ratio of 30 dB. Compared with the traditional single microring structure, the proposed microring presents a higher free spectral range and more suitable for the fabrication of high-sensitivity, low-detection limit, and large-measurement range sensors.
