Opis:
Presented article analyzes the sources of conflict between the family role and the professional role. The article is focused on the sources of conflict between work and family. The possibility of interference between these two roles should be closely investigated and better understood. Despite that in some cases the lines between professional and family life tend to blur, both of these types of life still have different roles and requirements. The article is an investigation of attainable literature and studies regarding the subject. The empirical investigation imply that the conflict of roles starts when the time committed to the requirements of one of them makes it difficult to meet the requirements of the other. Even though lately the number of investigations of this subject has grown, the results are still differentiated and sometimes even self-contradictory. The comparison of the results of different investigators showed that the work-family and family-work conflicts are positively correlated which indicates mutual strengthening and necessity of searching for common and individual causes that condition their coexistence, domination and strength. The received results are consistent with the results of many other studies, whose authors tried to indicate that each of these conflicts could have specific causes and course.

Opis:
Professional and family roles are one of the basic and most important roles performed by adults. Transformations of modern organisations and families show that these two types of social groups are closely related. Work allows people to acquire material resources that are necessary to meet family needs and determine its social status. This study is of qualitative nature. Its main goal is to identify the factors that limit professional activation of mothers and those that limit implementation of the right of fathers to engage in the family life related to the difficulties encountered in reconciling professional and family roles. The attempt to identify these factors was carried out at the level of individual parent strategies, organisation practices, and at the level of implemented social policy, taking into account employers' organisations and trade union opinions.

Płeć jest niezwykle istotnym czynnikiem, który różnicuje oczekiwania społeczne, odnośnie do wypełniania określonych ról. Inne aktywności społeczne przypisywane są kobiecie, inne mężczyźnie. Kobiecość jest silnie związana w macierzyństwem, męskość wyrażana jest poprzez status zawodowy i ekonomiczny. Szczególnie w polskim społeczeństwie bycie żoną, a przede wszystkim matką, która dba o dom i rodzinę nadaje kobiecie wysoki prestiż społeczny. Stereotyp „Matki Polki”, poświęcającej się dla dzieci, wzorowej gospodyni nadal jest mocno zakorzeniony w świadomości społecznej. Można to zauważyć analizując wyniki badań na temat modelu rodziny. Preferencje w tym zakresie powoli oddalają się od stosunków patriarchalnych, ewoluując w kierunku relacji bardziej egalitarnych. Coraz więcej osób wyraża aprobatę dla modelu partnerskiego, w którym kobieta i mężczyzna, w zbliżonym stopniu, angażują się w sprawy rodzinne i zawodowe. Jeśli chodzi o model realizowany, odzwierciedlający istniejące wzory zachowań rodzinnych, to w polskiej rodzinie często praktykowany jest tradycyjny (kobieta wypełnia rolę rodzinną, mężczyzna rolę zawodową) oraz model nieproporcjonalnie żeński (kobieta wypełnia rolę rodzinną i zawodową, mężczyzna tylko rolę zawodową). W tej sytuacji warto zobaczyć jak zamierzają realizować role rodzinne młode kobiety, które wchodzą w dorosłe życie. Jak istotne jest dla nich bycie żoną, matką – opiekunką domowego ogniska? Czy wypełnianie ról małżeńskich i rodzicielskich jest ważniejsze niż kariera zawodowa? Który model rodziny będą chciały w przyszłości realizować
Gender is a crucial factor which is diversifying social expectations as to the filling of specific social roles. Some social activities are being assigned to the woman, others for the man. Femininity is strongly related to motherhood, masculinity is expressed through the professional and economic status. Especially in Polish society, being a wife, and most of all being a mother who takes care of home and family, gives women a high social prestige. The stereotype of “Polish Mother”, sacrificing for her children, the exemplary housewife is still firmly entrenched within the social consciousness. This can be seen by analyzing the results of researches about the model of the family. Preferences in this regard are slowly moving away from patriarchal relations evolving towards a more egalitarian relationship. More and more people expresses appreciation for the partnership model, in which a woman and a man are involved in the family and professional issues to a similar extent. If we talk about the predominant actual model, that shows real family life in Poland, often the traditional model is practiced (the woman takes care of the family, the man performs the professional role) and the disproportionately female model (the woman takes care of the family and performs a professional role, the man performs only a professional role). In this situation it is worthwhile seeing how young women are going to perform family roles. How important is it for them to be wife, mother – guardian of hearth and home? Is performing the roles of marriage and parenting more important than career? Which model of the family would they like to perform in the future?

Family is the most important educational environment. It is in the family that a child discovers the world of values. The opinions and attitude are shaped, traditions are recognized. A properly functioning family fulfils the basic needs for safety, love, security, and trust. Family shapes one's interests as well as securing and organising leisure time for children. The research conducted was to find an answer to the question: How does a family organize the leisure time of its children? The acquired data confirms the hypothesis that family organises the leisure time of its children and allows for the development of interests that foster the development of personality and introduce one to the world of values. Furthermore, a proper organisation of leisure time prevents the demoralisation of children and youth.

Hutsuls as one of the ethnic groups living in the Carpathian mountains have created peculiar culture, distinct from other mountain societies and original in many aspects. The relationships in the so-called typical families were also very characteristic. Dominant role was played by a man. The oldest man in a family was responsible for relationships and rights in the family and for upbringing of children. Men’s amoral behaviour, rooted in tradition, very often contributed to depravity and breakdown of marriages. Men often got married for fortune, were unfaithful to their wives and beat them. Such behaviour was treated in the Hutsul community as a husband’s privilege and duty. The role of a man in the Hutsul family was significant but in many cases negative.

Autor podjął się opracowania tematu: posiłki rodzinne jako narzędzie budowania więzi. Z analizy literatury przedmiotu wynika, że posiłek rodzinny w historii ulegał przemianom i bardzo mocno zależał od sytuacji ekonomicznej i społecznej rodziny. W czasach najdawniejszych kobiety i dzieci, ze względu na niską pozycję społeczną bardzo rzadko mogły jeść razem z mężczyznami. Sytuacja uległa zmianie, gdy kobieta stała się opiekunką domowego ogniska, a dzieci odgrywały co raz większą rolę. W czasie II wojny światowej obraz rodziny, która wspólnie je obiad, był wykorzystywany do celów propagandowych, ale ze względu na liczbę mężczyzn przebywających na froncie, rzadko dochodził do skutku. Za „złoty okres” rodzinnych posiłków uznane zostały lata pięćdziesiąte XX wieku, w których były one powszechne. Dzisiaj częstotliwość posiłków rodzinnych zależy od wielu czynników. Można tu wymienić zmiany w strukturze rodziny czy dużą aktywność pozaszkolną dzieci. Wyniki różnią się w zależności od badań, ale u wielu z nich zauważa się spadek częstości rodzinnych spotkań przy stole. Rodzice podobnie jak ich dzieci cenią sobie czas, który spędzają wspólnie podczas jedzenia, a jedną z głównych zalet takich spotkań jest wzmacnianie więzi między rodzicami i ich dziećmi. Nie jest to jednak jedyny pozytyw rodzinnych posiłków. Wśród nastolatków, którzy regularnie jedzą z rodzicami mnożna zauważyć mniejszą liczbę chorych na depresję i sięgających po różnego typu używki. W tej specyficznej grupie dostrzegalny jest również pozytywny wpływ na wyniki w nauce dzieci i młodzieży i problem nadwagi.
The author undertook to develop the topic: family meals as a tool for building relationships. The analysis of the literature on the subject shows that the family meal has changed in history and very much depended on the economic and social situation of the family. In the earliest times, women and children, due to their low social position, could rarely eat with men. The situation changed when the woman became the caretaker of the hearth and the children played an increasingly important role. During World War II, the image of the family eating dinner was used for propaganda purposes, but due to the number of men on the front, it rarely materialized. The 1950s, when they were common, were considered the 'golden age' of family meals. Today, the frequency of family meals depends on many factors. We can mention changes in the family structure or high extracurricular activity of children. Results vary across studies, but many have seen a decline in the frequency of family meetings at the table. Parents, like their children, value the time they spend together while eating, and one of the main advantages of such meetings is strengthening the bond between parents and their children. However, this is not the only positive thing about family meals. Among adolescents who regularly eat with their parents, there is a smaller number of people suffering from depression and using various types of stimulants. In this specific group, there is also a noticeable positive impact on the educational performance of children and adolescents and the problem of overweight.

In the recent decades we can observe the intensification of crisis in the marriage and family. In this situation many researches are undertaken to explain the reason of such state in order to prevent it in the future. The aim of the paper is to study the role of empathy in family life. Firstly there have been presented the most basic characteristics and functions of the empathy phenomena that have been studied in psychology. Then the paper explains successive stages of family development within the framework of systems theory and in this context the significance of empathy sensitiveness in the prevention and solving the conflicts and crisises in family life have been discussed. Basing on the theoretical analyses presented in the literature and the results of empirical research it has been shown that empathy is one of the most fundamental factors determining satisfactory interpersonal relations within the family, concerning both the correct family functioning as well as overcoming the inevitable conflicts and crisises that appear in family life.

The text describes the question of gender roles individualisation and their redefinition in relation to the notion of family. The analysis focuses on a new vision of fatherhood, i.e. a model that allows male care and sensitivity, which translates into active and committed child care (“caring masculinity”). The article is the analysis of selected Internet blogs and portals edited by men – source that will serve as material for reflection on both the condition of the father in contemporary Poland and dilemmas related to this.

Celem badań była identyfikacja roli, jaką pełnią asystenci rodzin wraz z treścią realizowanych przez nich zadań, utrudnieniami, których doświadczają, i czynnikami sprzyjającymi. Rolę zawodową potraktowano jako ramę analiz funkcjonowania i doświadczeń zawodowych badanych asystentek rodzin. Przedstawiony materiał pochodzi z pięciu indywidualnych, częściowo ustrukturyzowanych wywiadów pogłębionych z asystentami rodzin. Wyniki badań ujawniły, że prawie wszystkie asystentki realizują własne role zawodowe w pewnym stopniu w sposób niestandardowy, choć wspólną cechą prezentowanych wypowiedzi jest świadomość wagi zaufania we wspólnej pracy z rodzinami. Ponadto cechuje je doświadczanie pewnych trudności jawiących się jako kombinacja różnych elementów. Badane werbalizują przekonanie, że same kreują własne role zawodowe, które są w pewnej mierze wyznaczane także przez wspierane rodziny, kierowników oraz pracowników socjalnych.
The aim of the study was to identify the role fulfilled by family assistants, along with the subject-matter of their tasks, obstacles they encounter, and favourable factors. Professional role was treated as a framework for professional functioning and experiences of the family assistants participating in the study. The presented material originates from five individual, semi-structured in-depth interviews with family assistants. The results of the study revealed that, to some extent, almost all assistants fulfil their own professional roles in a non-standard manner, although the statements they made have a common characteristic: awareness of the importance of trust in their joint work with families. Moreover, family assistants are characterised as experiencing some difficulties that appear to be the combination of various components. The participants verbalise the conviction that they create their professional roles themselves, which are determined, to some extent, also by the families they support, their managers, and social workers.

Rodzina buduje i przekazuje kulturę powołania poprzez świadomy i konsekwentny proces formacji zgodnie z chrześcijańskimi wartościami i wzorcami zachowań. W ten sposób odpowiada na powszechne powołanie do miłości i świętości. Jest trafnie nazywana Domowym Kościołem, pierwszym seminarium i skarbnicą powołań. Świętość rodzin jest głównym warunkiem wzrostu i dojrzewania autentycznych powołań oraz najwłaściwszą odpowiedzią na współczesny kryzys kultury powołaniowej.
Building and transmitting vocational culture is among the primary duties of the Christian family. Vocational culture is composed of all actions supporting the work of awakening vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life. Characteristic elements of this culture are: deep religiosity, awareness of the Church mission and the correct vision of vocation. The family builds and transmits vocational culture through a conscious and consistent process of formation according to Christian values and models of behaviour. It thus answers the general call to love and holiness. It is aptly named the Home Church, the first seminary, and the treasury of vocations. The holiness of families is the main condition for the growth and maturation of authentic vocations, and the most appropriate answer to the modern crisis of vocational culture.

Problemy osób dorosłych z niepełnosprawnością dość rzadko podejmowane były przez pedagogikę specjalną, skupiającą się głównie na dzieciach i młodzieży. Niemniej jednak ostatnie lata przyniosły wzrost zainteresowania także tą grupą osób niepełnosprawnych. W swojej pracy badawczej zajęłam się wpływem niepełnosprawności rodzica na funkcjonowanie rodziny a w konsekwencji na wychowywane w niej potomstwo. Rodzice wytyczają a następnie utrwalają u swoich dzieci uznawany przez siebie system wartości. Podczas analizy przypadków szczególnie dokładnie przyjrzałam się wypełnianiu w rodzinach rencistów takich funkcji jak: ekonomiczna, opiekuńcza (zarówno w stosunku do dzieci jak i rodziców), socjalizacyjno – wychowawcza oraz emocjonalna.
Problems of disabled adults have been described in special education literature relatively rarely as this realm of pedagogy focuses mostly on children and the youth. Nevertheless, for the past few years the interest in this group of the disabled has been increasing. In my research I aimed at the influence of a parent’s disability on a family’s effectiveness and, as a result, on children brought up in such a family. Parents define and stabilize their children’s value hierarchy. During the analysis of researched cases I focused especially on fulfilling economical, emotional, childcare, socializing and protective (towards children as well as towards parents) functions of pensioners’ families.

Family life in Europe has undergone many changes in the twentieth century. Th ese include the lifestyle of women, their legal freedom, family relations, relations with partners, relations with the older generation, and relations with children. Th e position of women in society has also undergone many transformations. Problems remain, however, in the social and family policy of the state, as women engaged in the working process give preference to their own plans and their need for self-fulfi lment. Th e main goal of state family policy in the twenty-fi rst century is, then, to ensure a harmonious balance between professional activity and family life.

Opis:
Caring for a family member with dementia involves multifaceted relational issues linked to the construction of caregiving as an emotional, symbolic and morally sanctionable practice inscribed in kin relations and dominant femininity (Paoletti 2007). As the disease disrupts taken-for-granted expectations for a person with dementia and the entire family, this qualitatively new situation necessitates the (re)negotiation of kin roles and responsibilities (Peel 2017; Purves 2011). By applying conversation analysis and membership categorization analysis to an audio-taped open-ended interview with an American female caregiver, this paper investigates in-depth how she discursively navigates complex familial role-relational trajectories while assisting her mother with dementia. The study examines the situatedness of role vis-á-vis self-other relations with assumptions about categories within the membership categorization devices ‘family’ and ‘gender’ being critical to this process. It documents how the participant contextualizes care experience not only in the standardized relational pair ‘daughter-mother’ but brings into focus a broader constellation of historical, contemporaneous or hypothetical aspects of kinship ties (e.g., with her parents, siblings or children), each of which invokes distinct expectations, responsibilities and loyalties which sometimes competing with other relations. The study thus exposes certain commonsense propositions concerning normative family role-relationships which function as powerful benchmarks for making life choices, interpreting one’s experiences, and morally evaluating oneself and others while providing care to kin with dementia.
